Luckily, I found McConahy Mechanical several years ago and they have been outstanding. Every time the home warranty company would say the units weren't repairable, I'd call McConahy and they'd come out within a day and fix the unit for a very reasonable charge. I eventually dropped our home warranty coverage, since it was clear their contractors either weren't competent or weren't honest, or some of both. We finally decided to replace both units this year. The only company I called was McConahy Mechanical, since I trust them implicitly based on all my prior interactions with them. The quotes they gave me were reasonable, Chris McConahy called me to cover the differences between the quotes and answer all my questions, and they scheduled the work within two weeks. The new units were installed over two days, and they are fantastic! As always, the crew from McConahy showed up exactly on time, they were friendly, polite, and professional, the work was done in the time frame they'd quoted, there were no "surprise charges", and they cleaned up meticulously when they were finished. Chris called me over the weekend just to make sure everything about the project had gone smoothly and to make sure we are pleased. Of all the many contractors we've dealt with over the past nearly forty years, I would put McConahy Mechanical at the very top of the list in terms of integrity and professionalism. They have always surpassed our expectations in terms of responsiveness, and every single one of their team members that we've met over the past several years has been a delight to work with. We were dispatched to Genova Electric through our First Premier Home Warranty for an urgent electrical issue at one of our rental properties. While we appreciated how quickly the technician arrived, the service quickly deteriorated after the initial visit. As the property owners, we specifically instructed the technician to communicate directly with us--not our tenant. Despite that request, he continued discussing the situation with our tenant, creating unnecessary concern and confusion instead of keeping the homeowners informed. The biggest issue, however, was the complete lack of communication and documentation. We repeatedly requested the diagnostic report that needed to be submitted to our home warranty company so the claim could proceed. Instead of providing the required documentation, we were told he preferred not to work through the home warranty process and offered to complete the repair privately for an additional charge. As paying home warranty customers, we expect contractors in their network to follow the proper claims process--not leave homeowners chasing paperwork while a covered repair sits unresolved. We spent far too much time making phone calls and repeatedly requesting basic documentation that should have been provided from the beginning. Professionalism, communication, and transparency are essential when dealing with electrical issues, especially in occupied homes. Unfortunately, our experience fell well below those expectations. Based on our experience, we would not use Genova Electric again and cannot recommend them to homeowners expecting timely communication, proper documentation, or cooperation with the home warranty process. I reached out to ask about why they charged me for a part I didn't need and they said due to all the time they spent here and on the phone with tech support. Here's the issue I hope you correct going forward so it doesn't impact future customers: 1) Your technician didn't spend more than 5 minutes here the first time. He didn't troubleshoot anything. I told him the code and what I looked up online that led me to calling you. He said yup that's it. Then he left. 2) Had he troubleshot the issue it could've been resolved that day and we wouldn't have been without hot water for two weeks. Also, this would've prevented the ordering of a part that was unnecessary. 3) The second technician said he's not a plumber, rather he's an HVAC guy. I think having the properly trained technician would have sped up the job, reducing time wasted on troubleshooting a master reset. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because I am thankful the last technician that came out was honest and was able to resolve it and get the water heater working.
