It's our first time here. Quickly seated, casual dining. The atmosphere has some 80s music, darker ambiance, not crowded but a fair amount of people. The wait staff was friendly and responsive. Our family rates the food: French dip #1: 5 stars (kid vote) French dip #2: 4 stars (my vote) Hackney burger: 3.5 stars (kid vote) Chicken Caesar salad: 3.5 stars (kid says it was a little spicy) Turkey BLT: 4 stars (adult vote) Fried onion appetizer: 3.5 stars (2 out of 5 people felt it needed some kind of seasoning, like truffle salt) Overall nice experience! Thanks for having us!

Great service. We went there for cocktails and really enjoyed ourselves. Great service and what a good day to sit outside and enjoy the weather!

Half of us in the igloo.

This was the first time I've been to Hackneys in quite a few years, but we wanted to eat in the plastic igloos of the holiday for a some festive family fun. The dome itself was fun and decorated inside do a cozy feel, but we were a bit cold even though they do have two heaters going so we are with coats on. There were 6 of us, so it was also a little tight but it was about the experience, so we weren't too worried about that. As for the food, we ordered the onion loaf and potato skins that were both good just as they were in the past, but I do wish there was a sauce with onion loaf. Almost everyone got a burger of some sort, something they are known for, but I got the Hackney smash which is a slightly smaller patty and there are two. I wanted that to be better fo something called a smash burger it really wasn't. It didn't taste bad, but was definitely not a smash burger. Their fries are thin and crispy and I also ordered a cup of chili which was the best surprise of the night. It was meaty with a spicy back and came with all the extras on the side really tasty. Our waitress was extremely nice and attentive for the most part considering she had to come from the main restaurant to serve us, but at the end of the evening I'm pretty sure she forgot about us, but we sat in the dome for 15-20 minutes after we were done eating waiting for the check. My wife had to go outside and get someone. If I'm being honest that drops it down to more like a 3 and half stars, but overall everything else was very good so. Funtime do the family during the holidays.

I'm from the area. Brought my soon to be husband here for lunch. After we got our marriage license! We currently live out of state and got married in my hometown. Loved the chill vibe inside. We had a few beers at the bar. And I twisted my loves arm for the onion brick but we got the 1/4 which was just fine. I wanted the 1/2 one. I got the delicious hackney burger as usual! Love this local spot and the food! Great bar tender!

    Hackney's Original French Fried Onions

I've been coming to the original Hackneys on Harms since I was born, over 3 decades. This place is so special and hasn't changed. This place is a classic midwestern Irish pub - and it shouldn't be expected to be anything more. The minute you walk in, you'll be welcomed with a classic hearty warm meal, friendly service, and fair prices. This place is not and never will be fine dining, new American, or elevated pub fair - and you shouldn't expect it to be. The allure is this place is classic and untouched, a true dive in the best of ways. They pour a great Guinness, the onion bricks are unmatched, and I always recommend the patty melt. Hackneys is home!

    Love the Igloo experience.

This was our third year eating in the Igloo, which is always a fun family experience However, we did notice that this was also the 3rd year that they did NOT bring more french fries when we asked. They advertise unlimited french fries. They bring an average size plate of fries, and every year we have requested another plate, and they have not one time brought it. I wonder if they "forget" on purpose. When we mention it, they always apologize but still do NOT bring another plate to make up for "forgetting". Disappointing. Not sure if this is on purpose or not.

First of all understand when you get here you can kiss your dieting goodbye But you will have a great time. I started off this Black Wednesday night visiting my friends in the north burbs of Chicago and people like this place so I went. This place has been here before my grandmother was born The famous hackney onion rings had to be ordered. I'm don't want to know about my sodium level. The onion rings look like they could be a cake My friend had a hamburger and I had the ribs. I think there is a hospital nearby which is good considering the menu. I am kinda joking. They also have a salad should you wimp out and not want to consume 2800 calories every half hour

onion rings appeared to be the "bottom of the barrel" burned/hard, not fresh at all and the stinky oil was nauseating. Burnt pretzel bun

Great meal. Hackney Burger on dark rye. Potato skins. As good as when I was a kid. No wonder this was my father's favorite place.

On the wine, we've found a Red Zin that is decent for the 1/2 price Monday special. All else continues to be great.

My dad had an office and n Glenview when I was younger and this place was there and he had never heard of it. I guess if you were local or took the Metra, then you knew. I made a reservation as there were twelve of us coming in. We arrive for our monthly Burger Club with high hopes. It's a cute place. They have a nice outdoor deck area and the inside has a nice wooden bar with tables around it with two or three additional rooms of seating, too. We asked for separate checks, and our server told us it was no problem (it was). They have a lot of burgers to choose from so we thought that this would be a great place to go. I'll say this, our server was wonderful. Super nice, really friendly, always refilling drinks. Just a wonderful experience with her. And that's where it ends. My burger came our perfectly prepared (they ask what temperature you want and I wanted medium rare). The patties are insanely thin and toppings, while fresh, are overly abundant. Fresh lettuce, tasty pickles, etc. the burger had no flavor. No salt or pepper to season it or anything. And mine was the best of the group. Others received burgers that were overcooked, had the wrong buns, came with caramelized onions, but were raw -were sent back and came back raw again - and the sides were underwhelming. I don't like ketchup, so I asked for ranch and it was thick and had a funky flavor to it. Then bills came and they were all wrong. She had mixed up every bill. Thankfully most burgers cost the same, but drinks and some side upgrades don't. We will never go back here. I have no idea how they stay in business.

Grandpa's is a Glenview institution. It is perfectly located if you are getting off the Amtrak or…read moreMetra at the Glenview station, and if you sit on their patio, it's always fun to watch the train go by. The patio is just okay, in my opinion. It's small and nothing is very special about it, but on a nice, sunny day, it's perfect for lunch. I've never been a huge fan of the indoor dining area either, and I usually opt to sit at the bar if I can. The staff is very kind. They have an excellent burger. It's always cooked right and I love the bun. I add avocado to mine. The fries are great too, and always the perfect amount of crispy. I consistently used to order their Turkey Club, but at some point in the past few years, they switched from fresh cut turkey to deli turkey. It's not nearly as good anymore for that reason, and not worth ordering. The only Glenview restaurants I know of that still use fresh turkey in their sandwiches are Hackney's and Meier's Tavern. Also, their Guinness pours can be questionable depending on who's pouring. Nowadays, when I go to Grandpa's, I only ever order the Chicken Kabobs. They are absolutely delicious! If you like medium spice, I advise you to ask for them cajun-style. They are best this way! The kabobs come served over rice with the most juicy oven roasted tomatoes, and this addicting peanut sauce on the side. I pour it over the whole thing. It is a must-try and no doubt the best thing on their menu. Highly recommend Grandpa's food, as most things on the menu are enjoyable. They also have Merkt's Cheese!
