Ammmmmmazing sushi!! We got the Sweet Beast Roll and the Hawaiian Tango Roll and both were spectacular. Great combination of flavor on the Hawaiian Tango. My sisters (and my sister's boyfriend) came here to celebrate my sister's birthday. We all love sushi and wanted to give this one a shot since the other Japanese places are "ok" in the city. Glad we did! We had 6 rolls between the 4 of us - rainbow, dynamite, hachi stonehenge, hachi kaze, splendid, and out of control. All were done well - fish was fresh, flavor combinations were on point, and all were made really fast! There were 4 other groups inside and 2 more showed up while we were there. The waiting staff was very friendly and attentive. They recommended that I try a new roll with salmon, avocado, cucumber and tuna, so I did and it was delicious. You are able to get your rolls wrapped in brown rice instead of white which is great for all those health conscious eaters out there. I also had the ginger salad with avocado and green tea ice cream. I just tried hachi for the first time last week. I think it's tough to judge Japanese restaurants based on yelp. This is due to the fact people are really reviewing two different places in one. On one hand, you have sushi and the other you have hibachi and other cooked food. A lot of the good reviews for hachi, seem to be for sushi. I tried the ny steak teriyaki lunch bento box. At first, I thought they served me the wrong food. I mainly just saw fried dumplings, and other fried veggies. Then, I saw in this little corner part of the take out container had like 3 small strips of steak. The steak was good but I barley got any. The salad was ok, the miso soup tasted horrible. This place is really really really really amazing! My friend has been telling me about how great their Sushi is and how it's like a "party of flavors in your mouth" party is an understatement, it was more like BLOCK PARTY of flavors dancing in your mouth! Presentation is also amazing I am highly satisfied with how the sushi looked arriving on the table. Normally when you see photos of sushi on menus or on restaurants they have it all looking pretty and perfect like how commercials for American food chains advertise their food looking all nice and when you get it, it looks as if someone slapped your food upside the bun. Not Hachi, the chef puts the little flower on the plate and yes that is so insignificant but it really goes to show the love and attentiveness and effort the chef really goes into making you happy and satisfied with your order. Plus it makes it look all extra FANCY 私は私の人生でこの驚くべき寿司を味わったことがない! (I have never tasted sushi this amazing in my life!) Maggie is such a sweetheart it's not everyday someone from most restaurants make casual conversation with you or even remember your name! [I KNOW SHOCKER!] They usually just place your food on a table and move on. Maggie actually takes the time to get to know your name and if you have any questions or concerns she will happily answer them. This is a place where if you live in or work in around the area you would want to make this a regular spot. Read the other reviews of Hachi they all say how nice Maggie is, I'm not the only one :] I recommend the sweet potato roll, it has that nice blend of savory, sweet with that crunch. I need to stop its 6AM and I can't think about Sushi so early in the morning. The napkins are so pretty! I had the pleasure of dining at Hachi on a quiet, Sunday night and was extremely satisfied with my experience. We were the only table there, so service was obviously on par, but after leaving couldn't understand why more tables weren't filled. I ordered the Boston Monster special roll, which if my memory is correct, is made with mango, avocado, shrimp tempura, chives and lobster salad with sweet & spicy aioli--to die for! I definitely want to go back to try other rolls. The rest of my party ordered steak and salmon hibachi, and couldn't stop raving about the fried rice. I had a taste and was surprised; it had a distinct, hearty and almost meaty flavor. They also have a selection of Thai food, and the waitress mentioned that they are focused on keeping the flavors traditional, as opposed to other restaurants in town which tend to make their food too sweet. I respect their nod to keeping it real, and as a lover of pad Thai, am interested to give it a go. Perhaps I'll have an update soon! For now, 5 stars. read more

Hachi 8 took over the spot of Anoho, a restaurant that I loved. I was very sad to see Anoho go and a bit skeptical about trying Hachi, however my boyfriend kept raving about it so we decided to go for dinner. Their pricing is very fair for the most part. I decided to try the hibachi chicken. It came with miso soup, salad, chicken, vegetables and rice and it was only $15. It was very good. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi steak. The steak was very juicy and tender. For an appetizer we decided to get an eel avocado roll. It was good but I thought it had too much sauce. I felt that it was a bit over powering and that It took away from the other flavors but it was still fine to eat. The amount of sauce is just a personal preference and for me it was a bit much. Overall we had a good experience and will probably be going back very soon. Next time we'll probably sit at the sushi bar and order some sushi!! read more

The absolute best service of any place I've been in Middletown. Maggie is the perfect host - knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly welcoming. Her husband makes VERY delicious, and beautiful sushi. The fish is incredibly fresh and the rice is well seasoned and expertly cooked. Try the live scallop and oysters to start. If you like nigiri, the yellowtail and the Spanish mackerel were scrumptious. I was also delighted to discover they have red bean mochi for dessert - my favorite! I'm looking forward to becoming a regular here, as it's my new favorite dinner spot in Middletown! read more

The sushi here is delicious! I came here for lunch and got the sake set which was very good and very fresh. Probably the best quality of sushi offered on Main street! However, the service was very slow even though there were several empty tables in the restaurant and, even though the sushi is amazing, the miso soup is terrible. Miso soup to me is a staple in many Japanese restaurants and is personally one of my favorite ways to start a meal. The miso soup at Hachi tastes and smells horrible! I learned after my first Hachi experience to get the salad and not the soup. However, this time we came here my companion's meal came with the miso soup and the salad and I could smell the awful smell of the soup from where I was sitting. It seems as if it has gotten even worse than the last time I had it! It almost smells like washable paint or something and he couldn't even finish his soup because it tasted so bad. So basically, good for sushi and if you aren't pressed for time. Don't order the miso soup it is rancid. read more
