We had dinner here a few days ago. We decided to get Hibachi dinners. We love the Hibachi fried rice, I had the Shrimp. The shrimp were pretty big. Very tasty, I felt the sauce was a little salty. This has become one of my normal Chinese/Japanese restaurants. I usually opt in for the fried rice with General Tso's or the beef spareribs. The ribs aren't fatty, and although the rice can use a little bit more flavor, it's not underwhelming. We also get the chicken lo mein with the pork eggrolls and sometimes crab Rangoon. We got a bento box once and it was the perfect cute combination of a little appetizer platter. read more

While there are many, many Chinese places around New Britain and Berlin, most are mediocre at best. This place is not at all mediocre. The food quality and preparation are excellent. We stopped here for some quick sushi due to its proximity to the Truck Bar. It was a good find! A little hole in the wall place in a large plaza. Their lunch specials are very attractive, especially if you're feeling like a cheapskate. Listen........$6.50 for sesame chicken, fried rice, a couple crab rangoons and a wonton soup. Not only was I full, but that sounds like a GREAT deal to me! The chicken was crispy and had the perfect amount of sauce. Accompanied by fresh broccoli and fried rice, which was also very good as well. The crab rangoons were cooked fresh to orded, they were litterally golden. Finally! A great place for sushi and Japanese/Chinese food! We have done take out both times but the food was plentiful, fresh tasting and flavorful. We've tried The orange chicken. Very good. They dont skimp the rice comes in a separate container. Bento boxes. My daughter loved hers. In it was teriyaki chicken, white rice, dumplings, cali roll. Came with soup and salad. Wow! I ordered delivery, but this restaurant is located in Stop n Shop. There is no delivery fee but there is a $20 minimum. The lunch specials are a good deal. I got a 3 roll lunch special which comes with salad and miso soup for around $10. The rolls are decent, but the spicy salmon roll has some crunchy thing in it which made it a bit weird. I also got a special roll, orange dragon roll, which consists of salmon and avocado. It was big but I didn't think the taste was that special for the price. Good sushi. Has always been fresh. Consistent Chinese dishes that always taste the same. So consistent that I think they use prepared sauces. Nothing to knock your socks off but good enough that we go back. I like the garlic sauce dishes. My husband likes the shrimp with broccoli that comes in a brown sauce, which he prefers. Often times it's in a white sauce at other places. I often times get the Malaysian Sambal dish. That sauce seems to be made in house by order because it's sometimes a little different than the previous time I would get it but I like it. The eggrolls are good. This is our local sushi place! The food is delicious, I personally recommend the Berlin roll, I have never had a roll quite like it, and my parents and I are addicted! We also frequently get the spicy tuna salad with big chunks of tuna and avocado. With covid there is no more dining inside, instead they installed a window at the entrance for takeout. After a parent teacher concern e we decided to hit up East Tokyo for dinner. We ordered the clear soup and salad. As apps gyoza egg and spring rolls and a sushi app. For main dishes we had beef mei fun and spicy maki combo. The rolls and sushi all very good but I never tasted the spice in the spicy maki. All the apps were great. We didn't know until we overheard they do delivery with like a $20 minimum. We are close enough I would probably pick it up but nice to know. This review is specifically for the Sunday All-You-Can-Eat special for $18.95... East Tokyo doesn't really advertise that special. There is a separate menu for that promotion. They don't give the menu; the customer has to ask for it! Nonetheless, the menu is divided into half-Japanese and half-Chinese. To get the best value, order just the sushi and skip on the other things. The fish used is delicious and fresh; especially the fatty white tuna sashimi. The ambiance is quiet and simple, but that is expected in a town like Berlin. I appreciate that I do not have to go to Hartford/West Hartford to get my sushi fix. My husband and I will make sure that East Tokyo doesn't go out of business. Berlin needs all the businesses possible. read more

I visited East Tokyo last night for dinner. Yelp does not list them as being open on Mondays, but I can assure you they are at least open for dinner, because, you know, I was there. Before you head out, you must know this place is BYOB. My group of four specifically went to East Tokyo to try their all-you-can-eat sushi night. The menu they bring is the size of a paper place mat, and lists soups, salads, starter (tempura, crab rangoons, edamame, etc), Chinese dishes, sashimi, rolls, special rolls, and dessert. It is an amazing list of item from which you can choose. The important thing to know is the one menu is for the table, so use a tally system and pass it around. Note also, if you mark 1 for the tempura or crab rangoons, it means one piece, not one order. So if you want 4 rangoons for yourself, mark 4 tallies. They make it very clear that you can order whatever you'd like, but you must eat all of it. You only get the menu once (they are pretty serious about this- you'll have the check before you can even open your mouth to ask for it again), so you have to know your appetite pretty well to figure out what you can fit in that belly, dessert included. Choose wisely! I tried seaweed salad for the first time, which was so delicious, but the texture was waaaay slimier than I was expecting. I felt guilty for leaving three bites left on the dish. The quality of the sushi was great, and the group reported that the sashimi was also wonderful. Our server was very pleasant and brought us wine glasses for our BYOB bottle. You should definitely give this place a whirl, as you can't beat $20 for an all-you-can-eat sushi feast! read more

I just wanted to update my review - I usually get the sushi lunch special which is a selection of generic rolls (you choose) - they are delicious and inexpensive - very fresh. Today I ordered some of their specialty rolls - WOW is the best description I can give - they were truly fabulous. Fresh, delicious, creative, beautiful! The Fire Island roll was made with REAL crab and the love roll was utterly spectacular !!! It's heart shaped and made from some of the freshest tuna I have ever eaten. Best Chinese food and sushi around. First time here tonight and I'm surprised it wasn't packed. I got the dragon Phoenix it was general tso and shrimp in a red sauce served with white rice. Their general tso is made with chunks of chicken breast. We also ordered the kani tempura for starters, which was amazingly tasty. The seafood delight was phenomenal as well Lobster tail was meaty and it had plenty of seafood in the Dish. Absolutely no complaints. And we'll definitely be back again really soon. read more

For California Maki Combo it comes with three rolls. I was excited to hear that as I was going to sneak some from her. I was hoping this was really going to be good but it was average at best. Needed to grab a bite to eat close the theater and this place popped up. I had looked at the menu before arriving and was planning on sushi but when you walk into a sushi place on a Friday night and it's dead....it's best you don't get sushi to possibly spare your tummy later. So with that said I started off with the Kani Salad which said was made with a spicy Mayo but just tasted like regular mayo and my partner in crime got a green salad with carrot ginger dressing. The waitress came back several minutes later with just the salad for my friend. The dressing was on the wartery side and didn't have that gingery bite that most Carrot Ginger dressings do. When she was more than half way done my Kani salad came out....mind you we were still the only table in the restaurant?? So now she watched me eat. For entrees she had the Shrimp with garlic sauce and I got General Taos Chicken. And once again her meal came out and several minutes later mine came out. She loved the Shrimp and garlic sauce it had quite a few large plump shrimp and tons of veggies the fried rice on the salad was bland and didn't have any other veggies that I could see but maybe a few scallions. My General Taos stated on the menu that it also included broccoli. But when it came out it basically had a broccoli garnish on two florets on either side of the same bland fried rice. The Chicken was not prepared like any general Taos I've ever had.....it was more like the batter fried chicken you see with sweet and sour chicken or lemon chicken. It was ok but not what I had anticipated and the sauce didn't have that tangy kick either. So....it wasn't horrible it was just blah....but we did walk away with full tummies. So if your not looking for anything impressive and like watching you dinner partner eat or looking to fill up your tummy this place is for you. read more

From the outside, this place is a bit deceiving. For the longest time I thought this was a typical plaza style fast Chinese food restaurant; but no, I was sorely mistaken. East Tokyo turned out to be one top tier sushi restaurant, that shouldn't be over looked. Not knowing what to expect, I ordered the Crab Rangoon as an appetizer. A great, but unnecessary, choice (the main course was quite adequately filling). My first bite impression was indeed a good one. I could actually taste the crab, noting the presence and texture of the crab meat within. The dough was pleasantly crisp, without being hard and over cooked. Delicious. I ordered the Black Dragon roll; and as noted earlier, I got plenty of it. This sushi features shrimp tempura and cucumber, topped eel, avocado, black tobiko and eel sauce. Every bite seemed to accentuate a different flavor. Sometimes crunchy, other times having a smooth but firm texture, each mouth watering bite had me anticipating the next. Yes, another BYOB sushi place! You provide the booze, they provide the food, bedlam ensues! This one is right in town for us, so we had high hopes for good sushi, and I think it's fair to say that we got it. Since there was no cash outlay for beverages (brought a bottle of wine from home), we decided to splurge for the "Love Boat," the typical sushi/sashimi smorgasbord for two featured on many sushi menus. It includes a choice of specialty roll - we opted for the Mango Tuna, which was beautifully prepared and very tasty. All the standard sushi pieces were also fresh and delicious as expected. All the demerits are for ambiance. The manager was extremely nice, though our server came off a bit nonchalant and inattentive. Plastic tables, old booths, worn out carpet... this place needs a minor renovation for sure... given the current business climate in downtown Berlin, I don't see this happening anytime soon. Still, a good crowd showed up while we where there, and made for a good time. East Tokyo is apparently quite popular for a small town sushi place, and delivers a very nice product. I went here for dinner in Tuesday and sat at the sushi bar. Ordered the Macki Special and paid extra to get egg drop wanton soup. The food: the food was great. The wantons appeared to be homemade. The chef gave me an extra salad and the rolls were as expected. The service was good too. I noticed there weren't other people in the restaurant. The place should have been spotless however it was obvious that the counter I was sitting at had crumbs that had been there for a while. For the price I will be back one more time to see if the place is cleaner. The place is in the parking lot with stop and shop and this is nothing against the restaurant but my gps kept taking me all over the place. I was about to give up looking for the place but I finally found it. I would have given them a higher rating had the place been cleaner. read more

To start the crab Rangoon's, hands down best in Connecticut! They aren't those gross sweet ones that you can get anywhere and every where, these are legit. There's a standard you can rate most places on aka general tso's chicken, which I assure you is consistently delicious. But their general tso's tofu is absolutely banging!!!! I had the beef mei fun which is fantastic and well balanced with beef,veggies,noodles and flavor! I also give this place an extra kudos for having scallion pancakes on their menu!!! My husband makes AMAZING scallion pancakes but the fact that this place even had them on their menu totally rocks!!!! The food is so good here, that it over shadows the blah setup and decor. The owner I believe is the only one who is ever there and serves us pleasant enough. But I tip him generously cause the food is so DAMN GOOD!!!!!
