The produce at this store is incredible. Basil, thai basil, etc. are plentiful, affordable, and an excellent selection of everything. Very good Asian food court, had the pork bulgogi and other entrees, and the food was excellent. Seafood selection is very good and very fresh. A little overwhelming if you are not familiar with foreign foods, but well worth the time to explore something new. Highly recommend a visit. read more

As a grocery store they rank five stars clean neat organized great selection fresh fruit and vegetable Bowser almost exclusively Asian themed ingredients. Food court for me is disappointing. Just got Champong soup for 4 and Carry Out had great udon noodles. the broth seem to be hot just for the sake of being hot. most of the staff speaks very little English lady said this was made to average spice and really hit me at the very top of my tolerance. Soup had one shrimp not peeled or deveined which to me is an irritation and the lazy way of putting it together. You have the choice of sending it to the side and not eating it or peeling and deveining and this hot wet awkward piece of meat . For me it comes off more as an irritation than something culturally pure. I bought four orders and we were all aligned in a disappointment. This place is great. The fresh produce are very fresh, and the variety is better than anything 10 miles around. They have an amazing variety of mushrooms that would be hard to find anywhere else. Their meat and fish department take up the whole back of the store. It's layout is a little odd, with similar products sometimes being separated, but half of the fun of this place is looking around and finding what you want. I always walk out with way more than I expected because it all is just so awesome! The food court is nice, but a little pricey. Personally I would find the ingredients in the store and make the meals myself. read more

I live in California and H mart is one of my fave markets to go to. I travel to MD for work and was super excited to hear there was an H mart in the area. This was a HUGE disappointment. It is not H mart standard nor does it even resemble a Korean/ Asian market. I've seem more Asian products at world market then here. The produce section was horrible! It was wilted and sad looking with very limited selection. The meat and seafood was the same. It did not look fresh at all. This is a huge disappointment. They should have not used the Hmart name.... How and why did I not know how awesome this place is! The store was so clean and you can easily get lost in the awesomeness of each row. The produce was so fresh and a lot more than the traditional grocery options. But the food court...wow. I was pretty angry when I went to the food court and saw how awesome it is because I have been missing out for too long! There are so many delicious options and during lunchtime they all have samples! Like other reviews said, no matter who you are ordering food from, all the orders are placed at the one counter towards the left. When the order is ready your number gets called out over the intercom and the restaurant you ordered from displays a tv with your number to go pick up at. All of the menus are at the order counter in case you dont remember which meal you wanted to order. Ordering can be overwhelming at first but I just owned it and let people know I had never been there before. I need to go back to check out the grocery section more and definitely get some ramen! read more

This my first time in H Mart, since the closing of the other Asian market several years ago at this location. H Mart has a neat food court on the left side of the store. I stopped by Lee's Sushi, which is the last stall in a line of stalls selling prepared Asian styled food/meals to eat in store or to go. I selected two containers of salmon sushi (5 pieces/container), a 10 oz bowl of bean curd soup (for free), and a drink for 11.47. The sushi was fantastic! It tasted fresh, cold, and full of flavor. Lee's doesn't skimp on the thickness of its sushi. Each slice fully covered a lump of fresh sticky rice and them some. No paper-thin slices here. The bean curd soup was unremarkable. I won't ever get it, except when it's free. I do look forward to trying the other food stands as their offerings look good and the portions are large. read more

Okay. One of the better H mart in the DMV area. Place is very clean although floor is not renovated but still clean. Wall deco and displays are very modern and tastefully designed and executed - it makes you almost feel like you are shopping in more upscale supermarket - like Wegman and Wholefood. Money well invested and it definitely shows everywhere. There are tons of sale promotions going on now so you will be able to shop at very low, reasonable price. Staffs are very helpful and friendly. One negative comment though - food court is a mess. It maybe because area is often packed with tons of people and stores are not prepared for such a high demand but when Korean Chinese restautant is out of noodle at 7pm - that is a problem. Taste of its other dishes weren't good either. Tried spicy tofu soup - taste was okay but the portion of its side dishes was very very small. Waker Chicken tasted good, though. I really think they need to hire good cooks and up their game if they still want to lure customers into a food court. Otherwise good, high end Asian grocery with tons of merchandise you should definitely visit. read more

In the food court the Chinese, Tofu, Sushi restaurants are great, but the chicken restaurant tried a bait & switch on us so watch out! I recommend the tofu oyster soup. I ordered mine extra spicy/hot and it was perfect. The noodles in black bean sauce was somewhat bland, not very temperature hot and lacking in sliced cucumbers on top. The store has been open for 2 weeks but still doesn't have all the items on the menu. I wish the had Yukgaejang, but you have to go to Lotte in Germantown for that. read more

The place is large and well stocked. Very clean and things are easy to find. Labels and in English as well so it's easy to find. Large Hispanic/Latin American sections. I can buy ramen noodles, and and Inca Cola, fresh fish and a new pan to cook it all in. This place is great! read more

This review is for the bakery not the market which otherwise is a five star. I bought some buns not the first time. I ended up threw them in the trash. I got a coconut raisin bread and twisted donut, red bean glutinous rice ball, which were so hard and not fresh, saturated in oil. Coconut raisin was so dry, it made me choked, it was only 5 raisins in there. I was so disappointed. The donuts should have been thrown away and not for sale, if they want to maintain customer's satisfaction. read more

Ok, first off, let me say that I've been to several other Asian food markets, including GW Mart, Lotte, small family-owned stores, so this is not my "first rodeo" to Asian markets. When H-Mart opened in Frederick just a few weeks ago, myself (and several foodie frineds of mine) were super-excited to finally get a full-service Asisan market. However, there are several reasons why this store is very disappointing. 1) Food Court The food court, which is seemingly rife with selections, is utterly confusing, as you quickly find out the first time you TRY to order, that you cannot actually place your order at any of the five food "stalls" - no, you have to go down to a "main" location (3/4 of the way down the aisle toward the back of the store, which is not even centralized) that has a register, stand in line with others looking to buy from all 5 food court stalls, and then place you order there. Once you've placed your order and you've gotten your number, you have to go back to your seat and wait for your food to come out. Waiting for the food generally isn't a bad thing, since that means it's made-to-order, but there was almost nobody there tonight, and it took 10 minutes to even get my Ramen. Right, the Ramen. Aside from the Ramen (cost: $10) only having 2 very thin slices of pork, I had asked the attendant for a more soft-boiled egg as the one presented in my Ramen bowl was (uncharacteristically) hard boiled, which is not how Ramen should be served. The attendant said "no problem,I have another I can give you." He went back to the food prep area, only to be approached by (what appeared to be) the supervisor, who had overheard our brief exchange when I had asked for a more soft-boiled egg. After about 30 seconds of the supervisor speaking to the other employee in hushed tones, the one who tried to help me came back, dejected, and stated that they "did have another batch of eggs but those are also hard now." HUH???? The guy was 100% positive he could replace the egg, goes back to the bowl staging area, only to then be told (for reasons unknown to me) that he was not allowed to give me what I asked for. I have to say that this really made me mad, as it was essentially a slap in the face by this supervisor who didn't himself want to tell me he couldn't (or wouldn't) accommodate my request. Don't get me wrong, this is NOT about the egg at all, this about how I was treated and blatantly lied to (by proxy) since the guy who issued the command didn't even have the guts to tell me himself. To clarify, I will not be eating there again, and I hope that others find this portion helpful. Your mileage may vary, but this was MY experience. While I everybody can have bad days, I don't like being treated like this ON PURPOSE. I hope that someone from this establishment cares enough to read up on this and makes some changes. If so, you need to work on your customer service, your portions, and your food ordering/delivery process - this place is just plain backwards. 2) The Store/Market H-Mart did a good job remodeling this old grocery store in SOME sections (e.g. food court, produce areas), but they did an abysmal job in other areas. One of them is outright GLARING: for completely unknown reasons, the owners chose to leave this old, crappy PVC tile flooring, that had years of wear, installed in their newly-remodeled store - it looks super nasty and it illustrates, to me, that the owners would rather cheap-out and simply don't care enough about the customer experience to do a half-assed job when renovating a store that had been sitting empty for YEARS. Simply put, the floor is very old, stained and super nasty. I would strongly hope that they replace that floor. Also, while the bathrooms are new, there are more such illustrations where the owners chose to go super-cheap rather than decent. Now, the selection in this store is very good - there are no complaints there. But, from a pricing perspective, you have to be careful. Not everything is a good deal, and some items can be a bit expensive. On the other hand, they do have "Manager's specials" which (especially in the meat section) are a good value. The other issue I have with H-Mart is that you instantly get a STRONG fish smell that smacks you in the face when you walk in the front door. Now, to be fair, it's like that at GW Mart and Lotte, but I wish they would address this with proper storage and/or ventilation to keep the seafood smells at bay. (pun intended) The staff is a mixed bag, mostly Asian, with a good amount of Latino, which makes for a diverse crowd, and that's generally a good thing. What I have found, however, is that several employees of whom I've asked questions have poor-to-non-existent (English) skills. Overall, I only give H-Mart Frederick 2 Stars because, simply put, they CAN and SHOULD do better than this. The H Mart is very clean and well organized compared to the H Marts in California. We stopped by while on our cross country cycling trip and was greeted with many samples. I love that the workers and customers are so diverse. Look out for sales or promotions they have (eg, spend $XX.XX and get a free X). The food court has many Asian cuisines to pick from as well as a Korean bakery. I'd return again if I visit MD again. read more

The store itself is wonderful, containing all those exotic things you can never find in "Fredneck". I find their produce prices to be very competitive with the local market and their quality to be good. Meat prices seem to be a little lower than average and they do have a good selection. Their seafood dept is outstanding for prices and selection. Farm or wild is well marked and the fish itself looks good. They have a great price for shrimp as well, if you can get over the american aversion to heads on shrimp you can get what looks like 12 to 16 count shrimp for 5.99 lb, the heads don't weigh that much so it works out great, there are those who say the heads are even better than the shrimp, not me however. HOWEVER the food court so far has been a disappointment. Granted I've only been once and plan to work my way around it. I had the Tonkatsu ramen and as the other reviewer stated it was bland, no flavor, none. Needed salt but then you had salty bland. The pork slices (2) were the size of 1/2 a business card (but smaller) and just a little thicker and I didn't get a slice of fish ball . So small portions and no flavor, not worth 10 bucks. Plan to try the other selections of ramen and sample the other stores as well, hope they're better. Really really really wanted a good ramen shop too dammit!!! read more
