I have watched this HEB being renovated but had never been in since the renovations until today. I went in for a quick purchase and got memorized by the vastness of the store. This store is HUGE with a bbq restaurant, floral area, bakery and sushi area and much more. It was such a joyful cruise though the store. In addition, they have abundant free parking underneath the building. One unique feature I have not seen at any other HEB or any grocery store for that matter a conveyor belt for your grocery buggy. A gentleman put his buggy on the conveyor belt and he took an escalator down and they arrived on the bottom floor at about the same time. I marvel at advances in technology! I've been spoiled by this HEB since moving to the area. I've never noticed how big this location was until going to others. Now, I wonder why aren't the HEBs as massive as this one?? BBQ: One thing you'll notice is the BBQ restaurant and drive through, though tbh, I've tried it and it doesn't pass the vibe check. SERVICE: The staff here is helpful, especially the folks running the sample stations, shout out to Sara! SUSHI: Though people rave about HEB's sushi, I wish they offered more raw rolls instead of repeating the same spicy salmon/tuna, imitation crab, &/or tempura shrimp options. Pro tip: check the timestamp on the sushi for the freshest rolls GAS: Gas is always the cheapest in the area, make sure to fill up before you leave! AMENITIES: This location will soon be home to a eyebrow threading shop, and has great aisles including a wine/beer station, health aisle offering fresh nuts, and a home goods section (a bit pricey, but some nice, unique finds). read more

This is about the true Texas BBQ restaurant inside this HEB. It's been some months since I ate here. I had two meat plate and it was good. My friend's two meat plate was good except one thing, "butter". He chose cornbread as one of the side dishes and it came with butter on top. The bread was of good size and he went to the front to get more butter. He spoke to the manager onsite and he said it costs him $1 for butter. He argued with him and eventually got one without paying, but when he came back to our table and told me about it, I first thought he was joking. I don't recall any restaurants in Austin area (and beyond) that charge you for extra butter. I just looked at the menu online and there is no mention of that, either. It's just butter. It is not fancy butter that may be served at a five star restaurant. I don't know if this manager felt like charging for butter this early evening or is this a new thing at HEB BBQ restaurant. If it is the latter, that's not a positive sign for customers. We also noticed that they do not have BBQ sauce machine out anymore. They gave us two small prepackaged sauce each (you can choose spicy or sweet). We ordered sweet ones. After this butter incident, we wondered if they charge for extra BBQ sauce, too. read more

I always enjoy coming to this H-E-B! It's a pretty big location, but they usually have everything in-stock and I LOVE how many gluten free option they carry in this branch! Parking can get a little chaotic, so I recommend trying to find a spot more toward the back of the parking lot so you don't get trapped in. Things are well organized, the employees are all nice, they carry more options than most other locations, and there is even a gas station attached that usually has a great price to fuel up. Pro Tip: Be sure to stop next door at Pie Bar for an amazing treat! I love their personal gluten-free pie with chocolate mousse, pecans, and shredded coconut - soooo good!! read more

Let me say, I LOVE this HEB. It usually has everything I'm looking for. This review isn't about the store but the gas station. I was in desperate need of gas and only use either HEB or Chevron gas. I came here specifically because I needed a car wash. I figured the newer bigger car wash would give my car a better clean. I was wrong. After spending over $50 on gas (SUV) I got a $1.00 discount on the car wash. I got the most expensive wash, which I believe is called Ultimate. The only thing ultimate about this wash was the disappointment. My vehicle was still incredibly dirty on the hood and roof. There was also still debris on the sides. There was also a sticky layer of something that left the look of small bubbles all over the car. This was horrible. A waste of $12.99. Even though continue to return to this store I will NEVER use their car wash again and I highly recommend everyone else skip it as well. There's a Chevron down the street less than 5 minutes away that does a spotless job. read more

HEB itself was a good experience till we went to the restroom inside the BBQ place downstairs. I was taking my toddler and got to the door to find it needed a passcode. We turned around to head to the front when a man sitting near the restroom said hey the password is so n so. I said thank you and went to the restroom, (red flag getting the code not from a worker) but toddler had to go so we went in. Luckily the toilet was Dirty! So toddler didn't want to use it. we were in there maybe 45seconds and as I opened the door to get out the MAN was outside the door! We walked away really fast and he went inside. It worries me to think if the restroom had not been dirty that he WOULD have gone inside while we were in there And done who knows what! Please DO NOT use the bbq restroom if you are a female. Water jug return and new water jugs are in two totally different places. No ozarka. Coffee grinders are set to coarse or fine, but the fine grind wasn't working. There's construction and space is super tight in places. I stopped looking for things because the selection just isn't there. HEB South Congress is fine. Super busy all the time and the parking lot is always crowded. The thing I am reviewing today is the Spicy Salmon Onigiri. HEB is giving this away with the purchase of a sushi combo. The sushi combo is good. Nice selection of rolls and nigiri. The Spicy Salmon Onigiri is not. This sticky rice shaped triangle with a thin spicy salmon spread is not worth the price attached to it $3.99. Do they really think they can sell this rice triangle for that much? First of all rice is not expensive. Second a sushi chef once told me when then make spicy fish rolls it is because the fish is a little bit old. The spices enhance and coverup the taste. Come on HEB you can do better than that! Just continue making sushi the way you have been. If you want to get rid of the excess rice just sell sticky rice for $1. read more

I needed a Cheesecake with Strawberries for my birthday. Called the night before but the Bakery was closed. Next morning called again very early and a very rude lady in the Bakery told me that I had to reserved within 24 Bla Bla Bla. So I called another HEB store and they said no problem, come to pick it up at 6pm. I called back this store in South Congress and spoke to Gabriel (Manager). He apologized and said that he would speak with the Bakery department. In conclusion I got my Cheesecake from another HEB store, was very happy and had a great celebration. The staff here are a bit amateurish and were seen messing around with each other but that's what you get nowadays I guess. I don't face this issue at any other HEB besides this one on slaughter and congress. Any curbside order I've placed through them (big orders or small) they never fail to miss multiple items even after updating the app that all my items were in stock and ready for pick up. It's really frustrating when you're not able to go in store for groceries and their curbside team makes these mistakes constantly. Unfortunately this is the closest HEB to me so ive had no choice but to go here from time to time and it's always the same experience when I do with curbside. I love HEB. The coupons are great, the samples tasty and people generally kind and helpful. This is my go-to one since the one near me closed down and I don't want to cross 35 to go to the other closest one. I think I like this location most because the parking lot is big, the location very convenient being by Southpark Meadows and places I frequent (Torchy's, Ramen Tatsuya, Far Out Lounge). I personally go midday when it's not busy and know exactly where everything I need is so I don't need much help and I am in and out very quickly and avoid maybe issues most people have. I also recently switched to HEB's pharmacy and am so much happier. The staff that helped me were so quick, all my information and prescriptions transferred quickly. My prescription was ready shortly after going to my doctor's appointment, and the prices overall were so much cheaper than Walgreen's. read more

My absolute favorite grocery store in the US (aside from Seed to Table in Naples). This place has a great selection, good deals, and some really hidden gems as far as products you would not find anywhere else. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, the shelves are organized and stocked well, and the layout makes things easy to find. It is also very clean. Anytime I am in Texas, I'm always sure to stop at at least one of these locations. This one is by far my favorite. read more

Re: True Texas Barbecue Yesterday was the grand opening of HEB. The fatty brisket was worth the 50 minute drive thru wait, but it wasn't as good as Black's or Terry Black's Barbecue. We went to the restaurant for HEB bbq I had the loaded cornbread with cheese onions and bbq brisket on top. The food was ok nothing tasty or worth mentioning. HEB 8801 S Congress personnel in the produce /seafood department is the best. Always friendly and courteous. Frequent this HEB due too the location @ 2301 S Congress is a temporary location after the nearby HEB closed and another HEB is currently being built. The temporary location is a horror. Constant spoiled fruit and expired health beverages. I informed management of the spoiled fruit months ago via phone and it seems too have not been corrected. This temporary location at 2301 S Congress needs too do better. read more

Dear HEB: Please take the time to read and listen HEB. As of this moment, I am very angry at how HEB operates and treats its customers. Let me start by saying I am a loyal HEB customer since I first move here to Austin, Texas August 2018. I spent a couple of days visiting local supermarkets near our new home. After one visit I found my home supermarket; W Slaughter and Manchaca HEB. Great refrigeration. Awesome produce. Great looking beef, chicken, and fish. Happy camper. I found my go-to supermarket. I am a fan of HEB. Always happy with HEB locations. Then I heard an HEB on Congress and Slaughter will open soon. COVID 19 delayed the opening. Bummer. Then it opened. I was told a BBQ place would be located inside the supermarket. AWESOME. Been to the supermarket several times after opening. Many times. Always, great. Always stocked within the parameters of the COVID 19 situation. Friendly service. Only issue; the charitable situation of "Texans Helping Texas". I am a strong supporter of this cause. At various times they support different causes. At one HEB store, they had bags located thru the store and you would bring to the cashier, then they would scan it and donation made. AWESOME cause. I was so happy to donate. Every time my wife and I visited an HEB we would donate two times $5 donation. No matter if we bought a quart of milk or Sunday dinner, we felt good. Two, three, four times a week. Our small way of helping our community. I and my wife are not rich. We felt it is important to do our small part in helping. I felt that HEB was part of the solution. I was glad to help. Now my issue; my major issue. The new store on Congress and Slaughter did not have this option of helping Texans helping Texans from day one. They did not have the little tickets by cashiers to donate or a laminate sheet by each cashier station. I would ask the cashier can I donate and would hear "what's that". I would then ask to see a manager and they would run around to find the laminated sheet so I can donate. Today August 21 at or around 9 pm I asked for a manager. Trey responded. Let me say that he was as bad as a manager to handle a situation as a manager can be. Right of the bat, he defended the cashier. I stated that she was not an issue. I informed him that she was not trained on this charitable procedure. Manager Trey was in my opinion not able to handle the situation. He was condescending, uninformed, and escalated the situation. All I wanted to do was to point out to him that THE MAJORITY OF THE OPERATION was uninformed of the procedure to donate to "TEXANS HELPING TEXANS" after my many visits. I wanted to donate to this wonderful cause. A cause that helps our neighbors. In my conversation with management, I wanted to bring to his attention that this cause was not represented in the cashier or check out protocol or standards. Instead, I was being lectured by a 22-year-old employee how I was in the wrong. At 62 years of age and 35 years in hospitality management; I reached that point. Not happy. Please let me know how this could happen; being lectured and how I could not donate money easily to Texans Helping Texans. HEB I will send this letter to everyone and anyone who will listen. What a beautiful HEB to have in South Austin and right off of IH 35! This HEB is one of the best locations I have been to in alllll of Texas. First off the curbside parking area and sports (on the east side of the building past the HEB BBQ drive-thru) are spacious, covered and provide ample shade, and are marked clearly on the instructions you need to have when you check-in to pick up your order. The curbside team is always timely, helpful, keep their social distance when they bring out your order, and are super friendly! I have yet to experience any issues ordering through the HEB app, with any of my orders, and picking up my order on time. Inside you have a whole new world of HEB shopping as the layout is unique with the addition of the barbecue dining area. All HEB employees are masked up, helpful, and working hard to maintain the integrity and reputation of HEB's service. I appreciate this as when I do have to come physically into the store I feel safe. I am excited to see that there will eventually be a HEB gas pumps/area to come to this location. As it is still in it's building phase I know it will provide a great gas option for travelers down IH35. Cannot wait! read more

Okay listen, this H‑E‑B serves a huge area and is almost always PACKED, so I understand the slow curbside and tendency to be out of certain things. What I cannot reconcile with is the fact that some of folks working curbside are absolute a-holes. They don't have the common decency to ask where you'd like your groceries placed prior to opening up your trunk as if it's their own. This is not a huge issue, only a bit rude. The bigger issue is that when you kindly ask them to place the groceries elsewhere, it's as if you stiffed them on a tip or broke their favorite toy. As if they're more exposed to COVID germs in the cab of my car than in the trunk?! I have had two separate workers throw a tantrum, forgoing courteous exchanges with me and slamming my passenger door shut to signal that they're finished. Most of us have jobs, and sometimes we have a bad day on the job, but that shouldn't be translated to the patron EVER. This isn't the kind of service I have come to expect from H‑E‑B. read more

The ridiculously inconvenient curbside pickup and the amount of traffic you have to deal with before you even hit the parking lot make this place not worth it. I waited for a curbside pickup for OVER AN HOUR. There's never any parking, everything always seems to be out of stock, and it's the most crowded store I've ever been in. There is nothing about H‑E‑B that makes up for the nightmare you have to deal with when you go here. Literally any other place would be a better option. The bbq isn't bad. Name of item: Bare Chocolate Cake. 'Chocolate' cake with buttercream frosting. There is a shortage of cocoa which means it is more expensive. Unlike in Europe where there is the slightest concern for the consumer over the profits of companies, in the US, there is none at all; so, in Europe, you can't call something chocolate unless there is a certain percentage of cocoa in it; in the US, H‑E‑B is allowed to call this food-appearing item a 'chocolate' cake. The frosting is whipped oil - run it between your fingers - it has the consistency of Crisco. The govt allows companies to call not-chocolate chocolate but at least the govt forces them to admit to the contents of their food. I was trying to guess what percentage of actual cocoa there was in this cake and my guess was nothing; & you know what, at least companies are forced to admit what ingredients make up their products (I'm not going to call it food) because there is in fact ZERO cocoa in this 'cake'. I'm attaching the ingredient list, maybe I missed it - see for yourself. The ingredients show that this is wheat mixed with chemicals to make it look like a risen cake + flavorings to make it taste like one, ('chocolate' if you've lost your sense of taste) topped with whipped oil with sugar in it, to simulate frosting and this thing will cost you $16.99. This is what Americans can look forward to as long as we're content for our govt to work for corporations instead of people: a product costing the co pennies & costing us as much as they pay an hour & seems to me barely qualifying as food. I'd speculate that there was a typo & HEB Intended to call this 'Barely Chocolate Cake' - but even that would have been a joke -- -& the joke's on us. read more

The curbside crew does a great job at this location! They run everything like a well oiled machine. They opened this store during the pandemic, and they are always super organized from sanitizing carts, to workers wearing masks, etc. The meat department is huge! They even have Wagyu beef! There is always a great healthy foods aisle. I recommend going early, like 7am in order to avoid crowds and people getting in your personal space. 95% of the time I utilize curbside. They also have a bbq drive thru, and a decent sized prepared foods section. read more

I've only been in here once so far since I don't get out much these days due to Covid, but my husband goes here often it's his new preferred grocery stop in south Austin. The produce section is huge! What a blessing these folks are. I took a chance and called the ask what time they started serving their amazing BBQ and Brian(probably the manager) told me not until 11am. I explained I was on my way home from a 12 hour shift and he agreed to allow me to come through the drivethru to get some brisket and turkey. When I arrived at the drivethru window, Shawna helped me out with my order. I know she was busy trying to prepare for when they opened at 11am yet she gave me the best customer service.
