We are so lucky to live in Texas with H-E-B! Good as homemade and large varieties of Meal Simples; fresh produce, fish, meat and bakery

Pretty disappointed they've decided to stop selling the tortilla chips, tortillas, bacon, ceasar dressing and greek dressing we've been using for years. But today, the bagger over packed out bag and while loading it in the back, the bag broke breaking the pickle jar. Everythig got soaked in vinegar. I cleaned it up as best I could, went back inside and got a new jar of pickles. The bagger also put our gallon of milk in the same bag which the broken glass sliced open. Unofrtunatley I didn't notice that till I got home and now I have a gallon of spilled milk soaking up in the back of my car. Imagine how that going to smell when in this balming Texas summer heat. Thanks HEB. read more

This is my favorite store! The staff is super friendly and the new remodel looks great. I've asked where to find products and they always help. Fast checkouts make getting in and out quickly a breeze. Their delivery service is fast and I have ordered many groceries, had to call and change my order, and they always helped. Clean store. They did an incredible job of keeping the store operating during craziness of mask mandates and remodeling. COVID is not a concern because they have hand sanitizer and their employees wear masks. read more

HEB has always been a good store, and my family has shopped there for decades. In recent years it has not been my go-to because I like several vegan and smaller brands. HEB has expanded its offerings and started carrying some of the things I buy and I appreciate that. But HEB has really excelled during COVID. The peace of mind HEB has provided through delivery and curbside options is unmatched. The management of the company seems to be really in touch with what people need, and anticipates demand pretty well. There aren't enough ways to say thank you to every single HEB employee for bringing a sense of food security during this dumpster fire of a year. Bravo, and thank you HEB! read more

Older, Smaller, Better. This is my usual H-E-B. I've never had any problems parking (I shop during the week.) I like the store layout but I'm familiar with it. Always good prices and the friendliest service around. The one thing, 4 stars, I would like to see change is the organic produce it doesn't seem as plentiful as everyone would like. FYI I miss the tortilla factory in the corner of the shopping center. Love my Allandale H-E-B. read more

We love this HEB location!!! Jackie is an absolute angel! After a terrible day (we spent weekend moving into our brand new home in the neighborhood, and AT&T hit our main water line trying to install fiber that afternoon) Jackie hooked us up with a free turkey (we were looking for one of those rotisserie chicken's but HEB was out) and free cake! We are forever customers now! Never going back to the collegy 35 location- Burnet location customer service was top notch! read more

It's a grocery store. If you're from out of town, it's like other chains, I guess. It had the stuff I needed for the weekend... garbage bags, coffee, milk, cereal, stamps, etc. Feels like grocery stores and supermarkets get bad raps on Yelp. I walked all around this place checking it out because of the negative reviews I saw... but I guess I'm just a lucky individual. It's a grocery store. I guess I should give it just four stars or something because it's really just a grocery store, people. It's not a hole in time back to 1955 where you can get meat and food without corn syrup in it or something. People here are nice. You should come to California. No one's nice. They're all jerks. read more

People! Please remember sometimes it is not your fault if the card reader isn't working or the cash register mal functions, or you can't hear your cashier because he is a low talker. The card reader here made me feel broke on a busy Sunday. I asked the cashier, as it was my first time there, if H.E.B. has a rewards card? he looked at me like I was speaking Chinese :/ I think he said they don't. They also only give back $50 cash I believe as I tried to get $100 before the card fiasco, it was kicked back with a prompt. I gave them 4 stars for the prices and selection and convenience of one stop shopping:) read more

H-E-B - Can't believe I have to bag myself once again - Grocery Near Me - Austin, Texas

I shop here quite often and always love the service from all your employees at this location. Since the onset of Covid-19 and the necessity to wear masks it's not always easy for staff to express enthusiasm, as I'm sure we have all experienced a dip in kindness at different businesses. But this evening Cesar C. was the cashier helping me and his enthusiasm shone right through his mask. He was friendly, conversational and efficient! It's people like Cesar that keep me from using the self checkout. read more

HEB Burnet Rd has done a fantastic job handling shoppers and inventory the best they can. Great decision adjusting the store hours to allow staff to get rest and restock shelves. And great job handling the flow of shoppers. read more

H-E-B - Grocery Near Me - Austin, Texas

During Covid, there have been numerous amounts of random things missing: favorite frozen foods, favorite toilet paper, favorite candies, etc. But what's an ongoing problem in this Burnet Rd store: Either no baggers, or the baggers put soft things like veggies and chips at the bottom of bags and then throw cans and other heavy stuff on top of them! Has anyone trained these people about the basics of bagging groceries? read more

This HEB at Allandale/Koenig on Burnet is not my main one, which is Hancock, but it handles most of our needs. It doesn't have all the items that the main one has (when I need something specific), which I've had to account for in my shopping planning before. It's convenient to stop in when we need to pick up a few things and are driving by anyway. It's helpful that they stock the HEB pre-made meals now, those are tasty and convenient for us. And the singing samples young man is sometimes there to brighten your day if you have a minute. read more

A friend remarked to me once that there's always a lot of blind people in this HEB. So we started calling each other every time we'd shop and see someone who was sight impaired. It was literally every trip. Then I remarked to him they have the worst produce in town. Coincidence? That said, I'd still rather shop here than the "best" Randall's in town. I've seen Enemy of the State. I know you're turning my shopping lists over to Homeland Security with your little Remarkable Card system. I'm on to you. read more

Not my neighborhood HEB but I had a list and thought I could get in and out quickly. But, this HEB has been expanded to a gaping warehouse size and parking, which used to be simple, is now problematic. Further, it appears more people are shopping at this HEB now with the added products and expansion. In the past, I have typically encountered good customer service. Until...... A certain cashier entered my life. Initially, I greeted said cashier but got no response. Okay. We all have bad days. But when she was ready to bag everything, I watched her place 8 items (a large OJ, two cake mixes, and other sizeable products, the sum total of about 10 lbs.) into one bag and a pair of Dr. Scholl's gel inserts into the other (a lightweight item of about 3 oz.). I don't think bagging school taught this but I really can't say. What does a person do but re-bag the bagged groceries so they can walk out without falling to one side and pulling their arm out of the socket? I did this while she was sliding the next person's items towards my rebagging party. I am fine without a "hello" but a little improvement in bagging skills would go a long way with me. Or, a better idea, based on my experience, would be to just bag this bag. read more

New insurance, doesn't support my previous pharmacy. Found out at the last minute and scrambled to find a pharmacy that would take our RX. Was very impressed with the Pharmacy in the HEB at Burnet/2222. An actual person answered the phone and checked to be sure they had the medication in stock. They also took my insurance info over the phone, and when I went to pick up... it was all set. Then, even better, the pharmacist requested a consult and reviewed the concerns with this RX and made some recommendations that I had not received at previous pharmacies. I really felt like the HEB pharmacy cared about giving great service, even late on a Friday night. read more

I gotta give props to my neighborhood HEB. They play me some good tunes while I shop. It's 80s music for the Win! The rest of you picky people can take your hipster bums elsewhere. Selection? Fresh produce? Front-row parking? Who cares? I'll be groovin' along to Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" whilst shuffling -slowly- amongst the blind and the nice retired folks! Never change, my lil' ghetto HEB! read more

Why did I didn't I read these reviews before I decided to run in here for some household items and soda?! This store would be an awesome case study for an architecture student on what not do when designing a grocery store on a high traffic street. First, it's nearly impossible to enter the store because the checkout lines are feeding into the entrance/exit. If you are able to make your way through entrance that's an amazing feat. Secondly, other than the items like meat, dairy and produce that are always on the perimeter of any grocery store - nothing, I mean nothing is logically put. I could not find the soda because it is with the frozen foods! Thirdly, there are no self check out lanes (boo!). So this part of the story I am not particularly proud of. I stood in the only 10 items are less checkout lane for about 10 mins and just when I only had 4 people in front of me, a man decides to cut me and the 6 people behind me. When I politely explained to him that the end of the line was 6 people deep, his reply was "yes I am in line". Well I snapped and this is when I had my Kathy Bates moment from Fried Green Tomatoes - I rammed the man with my shopping cart and said oh yeah you want to cut in front of 7 people huh?! I know I shouldn't assault people with my shopping cart but I think I checked my sanity at the door with the rest of the people that shop here. Never again - I will go hungry (or soda-less) before I step back in this HEB. read more

Okay, knocking it down a star. Yes, they have brilliant marketing strategies such as pizza and beer in the same aisle. However, the past two times I've visited this location (my backup location), they've been out of the produce I'd gone to purchase. Really, how does a grocery store run out of spinach? They don't have a seafood counter, so their fresh fish selection is painfully limited and not so fresh. I guess I'm going to need to drive further from now on. read more

Not all HEBs are created alike. We're talkin' the lamest selection in town at this location. Almost as bad as a Randall's *shiver*, but not as pricey. In their defense, I hear this is one of the oldest HEBs in town, but still. Where's my wood-floor section with Almond Milk and bulk crud? And what a pain in the butt that they close the door closest to the Blockbuster after 9 pm! C'mon, guys, I like to do my grocery shopping and movie-renting in one swoop! Sheesh! And don't even get me started about THE FREAKING BAGS. Oh, too late, I've started it myself. How is it possible that people still use disposable bags? Yeah yeah, you use them to clean out your cat box and you don't know what a pooper-scooper is and also haven't heard of rinsing out the grody-sauce from your garbage can in your bathroom so they're also used as liners in there... NO! Disposable bags are not awesome! Stop making excuses for them like they're some abusive boyfriend that you can't quit! They suck! OMG, I know what's happening right now. Yep, I'm completely aware that I am using this review as a gratuitous bag-bashing outlet. Continuing... So WHY for Pete's sake, do the baggers at this HEB put everything into my big ole reusable shopping bags and then put the eggs and other cold items into their own INDIVIDUAL BAGS INSIDE OF MY SHOPPING BAGS??!!! Gah! I think my head just exploded. Excuse me while I go clean this up... read more

New neighborhood, new HEB. Am I really reviewing an HEB? I like this one because it's smaller than it's cousin over on Red River. Everything seems to be a lot more organized and put together. It isn't nearly as busy here too, which is nice. It makes for a less stressful and annoying grocery shopping experience. For whatever reason, the workers here are a lot friendlier too..maybe that's why they've been serving Allandale since 1950? read more

Although this is no HEB plus, I always find myself returning to this HEB location. The store is very clean and always has the things I'm looking for. The produce is clean and fresh which is my personal favorite. The service is always very friendly and helpful. I have never had any problems which earns a swift 4 stars in my book! read more

Going to this store is my personal hell. I only go back because it's the closest grocery store to my house and there's a handful of items I can't find at Randall's. Every time I think "it can't be as bad as I remember," and every time I leave angry or frustrated. The store is crammed full of crap, over-crowded with people, the lines are long, the staff is hit or miss in their helpfulness and getting in and out of the parking lot is reason enough to avoid this store. read more

This HEB has recently undergone some upgrades - they added a fish market and bulk area for dry goods (nuts, granolas, spices, fresh pressed nut butters, etc). I am a HUGE fan of the bulk area - it is by far the most economical way for me to buy spices and this way I make sure I don't end up with a large container that sits in the back of the cabinet for a few years losing its flavors. I hope they install these in every HEB (especially the ghetto one on Oltorf)! Having the seafood counter is so much more appealing than just choosing from the sad items in the little styrofoam containers. Now we just need a meat counter! Hey - a girl can dream can't she?! Pro Tip: This HEB is unique because they have a sample guy (usually by the meat area) who makes up custom rhymes to entice people to try his wares. He's very impressive...not sure his work schedule but I've seen him on the weekends I think. Maybe call them ahead of time to ask his schedule - he's worth stopping for! read more

I do - oh, about a third of my shopping here, spreading the other two-thirds between Central Market and the Crestview Minimax. Each of these venues has its pros and cons, of course. Central Market makes me feel delightfully urbane and like such the "foodie in the know." However, shopping for a family of four, I rarely get out of there with a bill under $200. And, let's face it, I'd rather repeatedly stab myself in the hand with a nail than to go to CM anywhere NEAR a holiday. The Minimax is an awesome slice of (evolving) history, where the pork rinds are starting to look confused next to the new bins of organic coffee, but it, too, is pricey if you are doing a whole lot of shopping. It gets my twice-per-week "oh, I'm out of dish soap/toilet paper/organic coffee" trips, and always will. Power to the hood! But, the Heeb? Has its place in my heart. There, I can furtively buy the Tilex that could never face the judgmental eyes at Central Market. I can stock up on the food my heathen children will appreciate - Mac and Cheese, fish sticks, Drumsticks, and frozen pizza - without breaking the bank. The folks who work there are generally friendly to me, and always smile at my kids (and insist on giving them one of those damn ticket-things to the machine in the front that I HATE, but my children love). Selection? Eh, but that's not why I'm headed there. I'm there because I need soccer snacks. Or fixins for queso. But the best part about the Allandale HEB? The MUZAK. Deep alternative eighties cuts. I adore pushing my five-year-old around, in her cart, singing The The, Adam and the Ants, and Love and Rockets to her all the while. (I know; you're jealous that I'm so cool. My kids are TOTALLY aware of my coolness, too.) read more

Like the other reviewers have said, this HEB has a limited selection compared to most other HEBs in Austin, especially Hancock Center. But I like that I spend much less here than i do when I go to Hancock Center because I am not enticed so much by the luxury items and tend to buy the staples I need. I can also count on them to have popular items like mineral water here more than the Hancock Center location since the clientele is generally older at this location. That's another thing I like about this HEB, the elderly. Old people comfort me I guess. I've never had a problem with the freshness or noticed any flies on the meat, deli or produce. I've seen squishy tomatos and a bin full of rotten green onions at the HEB on 41st, a problem I have never experienced at this HEB. In fact, everything seems much fresher than the HEBs on South Congress or Riverside where I shopped in the past and they don't have the scary frankenfruits like they do at the nicer HEBs on Far West and Four Points where you can sometimes find things like an apple that tastes like a banana, but not just a plain apple or regular banana. They don't have a lot of choices in the meat, deli and produce departments though, and the fish is all prepackaged unlike most other HEBs. The parking is usually good, in my experience, unless you go after work when there are sometimes a lot of people out shopping. Even on Saturday afternoons I've been able to find a spot without much hassle. I like that there's not the rush of the crowd like there is at Hancock, sometimes it's a pain in the ass just to get down an aisle over there and here I've never had that problem. That could just be that the more relaxed pace of this store doesn't overwhelm me with the feeling that I need to rush in-rush out. Also, the staff is very friendly, but I can't remember ever having had bad service at any HEB. read more

I moved near this HEB a little more than a year ago, and I'm pretty much over Hancock HEB. I used to whine that the selection was lacking, the hours weren't of the 24 variety... psssh...stupidity. I LOVE that I can always find parking up close, rarely if ever have to fight my way around lost sorostitutes and fratty jackasses with their Ramen and Bud Light. Since they remodeled and expanded the store I haven't found anything missing in my world of grocery shopping needs. The checkers are always SUPER nice and often funny. The atmoshpere is calmer, and I never feel the panic I used to in Hancock HEB. Where you can't stand and think about ANYTHING for even a second without being in someone else's way? Screw that. Go here. Get your foods. Leave sane and content. And MAJOR stars for the baggers knowing how to not ruin the fruit I so carefully picked for it's lack of bruising. Thank your baggers if they do it well! read more

this pharmacy is great. there are never (long) lines, and the customers don't seem to be complete jerks, so you never have to listen to some rich old windbag berating the employees. HEB tends to have cheaper prices than randall's and walgreens, so that's a plus, too. the people behind the counter are really nice, and the pharmacists tend to take extra time to answer all your questions. side note, the pharmacy can't check out your beer... well, they can look at it, but they can't ring it up, none of them take the TABC class. le suck. read more

I love this HEB! Even though I moved near to Far West a few months ago, I still go to this one whenever possible. The employees are very helpful. They will actually look for something if you can't find it and apologize if it's not there. That hardly ever happens though because they keep their shelves fully stocked. Speaking of the employees, I feel like the theme to Cheers should play whenever I walk in with my boyfriend. "Hey! How are you two doing? It's been awhile since we've seen you!" And when we're in the checkout line, making snarky comments about the celebrities on the covers of the tabloids the checkers laugh and join in the conversation. They also compliment my food choices. "That ice cream is awesome!" Maybe I'm just a sucker for the attention but I always feel good when I walk out of there. read more

This HEB location gets 4-stars for carrying Shin Ramyun ramen, that even MT Market didn't even stock. It's also not as busy as the other location that I go to (41st and Airport), which makes shopping more leisurely. There are not as many check out lines, but the checkers were efficient, and I was in and out of there in 15 minutes flat door to door. Edit: I had to return a bottle of iced tea because I mistakenly grabbed the 'diet' version. I didn't even have to go to customer service because one of the cashiers took care of me right on the spot. Five stars all the way. read more

3-stars for being cheap as dirt. We went here on our first weekend in town to load up on the staples. As we neared the checkout line, I made a seat of my pants prediction that we would be looking at $125 in damage. Lo and behold, the final tally came to $74! While I don't see myself shopping at this location on a regular basis, it gets the job done when the job you want done is to walk out of the store without dropping a C-note like at Central Market or Whole Foods. Bon appetit! read more

The Allandale HEB gets 5 stars not because it's perfect, but because it's perfect compared with the other HEBs nearby. B- for selection, A+ for ambiance. It's an oasis of calm in a desert of crappy, crowded HEBs. There is never anyone in this store even at peak hours, and I love it. The lines are ridiculously short, and I always park right in front like I own the place. I BROWSE in this HEB like it's the goddamn National Gallery. There's so much space I'm like, did a grocery store engineer lay out these aisles? Probably. Shopping here is a very zen experience. Do I want to sample an IPA or a Mahi Mahi fish taco while I shop? Yes. Yes I do. I wish they had more vegan/vegetarian-friendly foods, but whatever. read more

"Elderly and Infirm Quarterly" must've given this place two arthritic thumbs up, because there's a mess of both types shopping here every time I go. Which is fine -- I'm not competing with them for the Depends and prune juice - but considering the narrowness of the aisles and scarcity of those awesome little min-carts, it's mighty difficult to navigate the store when the maximum speed of foot traffic is a negative 2 mph. The parking is mostly okay. I can usually find a decent spot even at the 6:00 rush. But all the parking mojo in the world doesn't matter when you have to go to two different stores just to get everything you need. And I'm not talking foie gras here, people. I'm talking super common stuff like soda. Juice. Paper towels. Don't get me wrong, even though the selection at this store is lacking, I'm a HUGE fan of HEB's prices and products. I far prefer the HEB-branded items to many of the more expensive name-brands and there really isn't a cheaper option except for the "stock up for life" prices you can get at Costco and Sam's. But compared to other HEBs in town, this one is one of my least favorites. Unless I'm in need of only the very basics or am pressed for time, I'll drive out of my way to go to a different HEB. If you DO decide to shop here, be sure to check the product expiration dates. There's a pretty good chance what you're about to buy is older than the guy on the Hoveround blocking your path. Several times I've found milk, eggs and other perishable items that are WAAAAY expired. (Which seems odd because this store manages to be both out of everything and jam-packed with pallet jacks full of re-stock every time I go.) On the plus side, it's convenient, the employees are pretty cool, and it is nice, as n n. mentioned, to shop and groove to 80s hits at the same time. But you take the good with the bad and there's a better-than-decent chance that, as you're walking out of there with only half of the stuff you came for, you'll have something like "Walk Like an Egyptian" stuck in your head. Consider yourself warned. read more

This HEB is my usual HEB. The employees are the friendliest supermarket employees I've met--it's common to chat with your cashier when checking out. I almost feel like I'm shopping in a small town grocery store sometimes. Another amazing thing is that I've never been mischarged for anything here--their price scanner is amazing. It's not as huge as some of the other HEBs so you don't walk around the store as much to find what you need. It has an organic produce section that's small and not as frequently replenished as I'd like. For instance, about a third of the time, there is no organic spinach available. That's the reason for the deducted star. The prices are normal for HEB, but they have fewer deals than the North Lamar / Rundberg HEB. I like that this HEB has corn tortillas in packs of 10 and 20; some other HEBs might have a minimum size of 30. I couldn't eat that many before the expiration date. read more

Let me first say this,I love HEB.I always buy my groceries at HEB.But this location just doesn't cut it.Which is a shame because I live nearby. In all of the times I have shopped here I have never, not once left with every item on my list. They are constantly out of things and seem to never restock the shelves. This forces me to make extra stops on the way home just to get home with everything on my list. Most of the employees are just not friendly. After an extremely awkward situation where a cashier accidentally dropped a bottle of wine and tried to blame us I vowed to never come back. Its sad because this store is so close to me but when I grocery shop I want to get what I need in one store. Not have to make multiple stops just because HEB doesn't have anything in stock.I will say that this store has a decent beer and wine selection. The other HEB near me isn't as nice, but they have bigger selections and the employees are extremely friendly and happy to help.Unfortunately,we probably won't be doing our shopping here anymore. read more

My friends and i call this HEB "the HEB of the damned". I think it's because of the horrible lighting and inside paint that makes everyone look like zombies. It's tiny, cramped and doesn't stock a lot of stuff that most other HEBs do. Want to cook something ethnic, but not Mexican? You are SOL, my friend. The produce is routinely covered in what i think are fruit flies. Once, at the deli counter there were a couple of flies buzzing around the slicer area, and at one point landed on the slicer for a bit before buzzing off. I'm not a germaphobe, but I know how gross flies are. The parking lot is teh suck too. I try to avoid it as much as possible...and i really wish HEB would invest some money to make it more like the Hancock center HEB, my favorite HEB. You'd think they would with the new Wal-Mart coming into the area as well as the fact that the neighborhood is really exploding right now. I'm giving it two stars because it *is* the only grocery store in the area, and because it's an HEB. read more

So I had to pop in and get some mustard. No complaints, it was 0630 ish in the AM. WTF do I have to complain about? They get 3 stars because I've used this store many many times throughout the years. H-E-B - Grocery Near Me - Austin, Texas

I call this my ghetto HEB. They have very little meat greater than USDA choice quality, and no port salut cheese. The parking lot is chaos. They run out of different products, and weeks later still haven't restocked them. I pray they do some kind of remodel/updgrade, but I fear it won't happen since Central Market is only a few miles down the road. read more

Tried signing up to use the curbside shopping service but the Website is woefully slow and frustrating. Can't understand why such a large organization has such a crappy website especially being located in this area of high-tech companies. And, the new self-serve check-out lanes are a bust as well. Very disappointed. read more
