You know BEFORE this COVID-19 pandemic I was going to update my review for Mi Casa Market & go down in my rating because Mi Casa Market has been slackin' on having fresh Mexican Sweet Bread BUT then the global pandemic happened & that put things in perspective real quick! Of course having fresh Mexican sweet bread was no longer a thought but being able to still buy toilet paper, bleach, eggs, & meats at Mi Casa Markets fresh meat deli were now essential items that were like gold during this very scary & never experienced before pandemic. From the beginning of this craziness Mi Casa Market has carried all of the items that were no longer on the shelves at my local HEB or Walmart. I also have to give kudos to the employees at Mi Casa Market for enforcing the wearing of a mask while shopping. Stay safe! -Rebecca out

Newly built, I visited this market to check it out today and was fairly impressed. They have a Taqueria inside of this market that offers tacos, soups, burritos, and more. The nice young woman who took my order was great at customer service. The food was decently priced and from the Chicken Fajita taco I had, pretty good eats! The market itself is clean and has a big produce section as well as a big meat market, good wine choice, and of course - beer. Their bakery selection is wide in variety and looks amazing! They carry most grocery store fare with a bit extra. It is by no means a huge market but it is clean and everyone is nice. I will definitely be going back to try their Pozole from the Taqueria next time!

I bought a bag of potato in this market. All turning to green and growing trees. That should bring toxic to health if use these potato. So that I decide to call them to remind them about this problem to change. The problem is the service in this market is poor. They said its normal. I left 1 star not because the potato growing trees but the service. Every body make mistake. However,They dont agree their fault and say normal. Toxic go into body is not normal.

It was quaint and calm. Loved it. I wish they started serving breakfast earlier. The prices were fair and the people were nice.

I also wasn't much of a meat eater back in those days, so I mostly had tried their sides. Now we're both on keto, so we go for just the meat. The meat was some of the best I've had lately! If I had one criticism, the brisket was just the slightest bit dry, but it had the perfect amount of fat to still make it taste good, and the smoky flavor was perfect! The turkey was moist, and probably my favorite part of the meal. We didn't order sides, but the included pickles were better than standard. It was rainy when we went there, so everyone was packed inside. There were barely enough tables. Their outside seating is not covered. There was no line, and my husband had finished our order by the time I had shaken out my umbrella. The air conditioning was a little too cold for a rainy day. The parking lot is all designated handicapped parking, but we got street parking right next to the building. Since we live on the east side, Micklethwait is convenient, and it has earned a place among our favorite places to go eat!

The weather was unbearably hot which also affected our visit because we couldn't eat outside. The issue: The dining room is small and can only hold so many people. We ordered quickly and the food was ready almost immediately. But we had no where to sit! So we stood there with food in hand (kinda in the way of the workers and other patrons) waiting for people to vacate. Part of the problem was there were two tables occupied without any food and they were just talking. At other places, this is awesome. But a place with limited seating: nope! So our food was cold and the grits congealed while we waited to sit down. The service: all of the staff we interacted with were kind, friendly, and helpful. They were a highlight of our visit. The sides: We had the Green Chili Grits and the Potato Salad. Both were excellent but the potato salad was maybe the best I've ever had. For me, it was perfection because it wasn't too "wet" and the dill was just a fantastic add. The meats: We had the beef brisket and the sausage. Both were very good. I preferred the sausage but maybe just got a less than perfect piece of the brisket. The parking: also not great. There is street parking but also a back lot they direct you to off of Springdale. But they don't really have a safe/marked path to get you to the building. Just loose gravel where you're at risk of an ankle sprain. Maybe they will consider expanding the inside space? That would really help. I'd still come back because the food was really fantastic, but only for take out where I wouldn't have to deal with parking or finding/waiting for a table.

I thought it was odd that they would be closed on weekends when people have the time to shop along with being closed before people get off work. But those hours make sense when you realize they produce for distribution, not dine in. There's almost 30 reviews so far, but I was surprised that not a single one of them included any photos. If you're coming to this part of town, parking is always a concern in this area. The good news is that there are about eight places to park at here, otherwise you'll have to park in the street, but at least there's no kiosks. As soon as you pull in, the air is filled with that familiar smoky aroma. However, once you step inside, you suddenly realize that this is not a place you can dine in. Basically the first 10 feet of hallway is where the customer service takes place. There is a cold case with all of their sausages on display, including a little beef jerky, and that's it. I have to admit I wish they had brisket and ribs too. They do make a tamale-based sausage for Christmas as a seasonal item. The prices are very reasonable and there is no tip screen. This is not just a grab and go operation, their sausages can be found in virtually every H-E-B. So the good news is that you can find them here or at your favorite H-E-B. Check out the nine photos included.

The other was a hog my younger sister shot. We got a call from them saying there was an issue with the hog- I was bummed but curious since I didn't remember seeing anything really wrong when I skinned and quartered it. They explained how the backstraps were 1/4th the size they should have been and other large muscles had clearly atrophied- there were also some small odd growths in the body cavity. Two things here: 1. They could have easily just shrugged it off and processed it since we were getting mostly sausage but instead they called and explained everything. The guy on the phone said he had actually looked up what could have caused this. I was really impressed because it shows a level of professionalism that is hard to come by these days. 2. It also tells me that they are clearly knowledgeable about the anatomy and what they are doing because I missed it. Thinking back I remember there was a strange tumor like growth on it's underside but since it's a wild hog I didn't think to much about it and just kept cutting away. I didn't pay attention to the inside cavity once I pulled out the guts either. I look back at one of the photos I took and think dang, yea there is almost no shoulder muscle but again I wasn't putting any of this together at the time. Thankfully they did notice these things and let us know that something was wrong. It's too bad we won't have this hog but I cant wait to bring them the next one because I know it will be in good hands! Thank you guys so much!

Checked in weekly on pick up date but especially pick up condition, (fully thawed). A few days before pick up i was informed they picked the pig up early and there was a risk of spoilage if it wasn't refrozen. Complete shock as we had spoken twice that very week and that was never mentioned. I said if they needed to freeze the pig in the meantime to ensure quality, fine but I still needed it thawed on pick up. Pick up= associate can't locate the animal, price was not what we agreed to, and they found it "in the very back corner of the freezer". Counter associate said "I just work here, they don't tell me anything" Needless to say, working with Hudson meat market was the biggest mistake. Even with over communication on my part, they just couldn't have cared less.

But unfortunately the BBQ, which should be the star of the show, just didn't quite hit the mark for me. I came in hoping to try one of their lunch specials, only to find out they had recently discontinued them. I almost left but the staff kindly honored the deal anyway, which definitely turned things around in the moment. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with garlic parmesan fries. While the food wasn't bad, it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from Central Texas BBQ. Even with sauce it didn't deliver that rich smokiness or bold seasoning I'm used to. That said, maybe I just chose the wrong dish. Their menu does have some intriguing options like crispy duck, ribs, an elk burger, and a full bar. I might give them another try during happy hour or if I'm nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for the BBQ.

Pickles and red onion were a nice touch. Overall, a different spot than the norm and worth a visit. Prices are by the half pound and generous.

One of their goals is to go Texas sourced everything. Even the wine list. They executed on that well. When I noticed the finishing salt I thought for sure this must be Jacobson or maldon. Nope, it was Texas sourced. I would definitely go again and recommend you to too, they've done a solid job and the place is lovely and diverse. My only negative, this is culinary purism. The sorbet was about 50% crystallised when it should be silky smooth. Normal customer wouldn't notice this as an issue. Doesn't affect taste or edibility. It means it was kept frozen well longer than 3 days (probably 30). Sorbet doesn't "go bad", it just becomes crystallised.

They care about every ingredient they use and it shows. The menu changes slightly almost everyday depending on what they're able to source, which is an awesome characteristic to me. The play also seems to be to use unique local ingredients in standard dishes to show how something familiar can be made new and better. In practice, though, for me the flavors didn't seal the deal. It was good but the selling point was more so the special ingredients less of the food itself for me. To me if I'm more impressed that it's a local ingredient than the meal was really good then something missed the mark. It's cool that I'm eating an antelope sausage but it didn't necessarily make the experience that much better for me. And to my palette some of the sauces were a bit too much - that breakfast sandwich felt like it basically had a sweet and sour sauce for egg rolls on it which just didn't work for me. I did like the sourdough pancake a lot, great texture and crunchy exterior with fluffy interior. That ice cream scoop sized butter scoop was crazyy excessive but looked really good for presentation lol. I wanted to love it but when it comes down to it, restaurant gotta deliver on the flavors not just the philosophy.
