Guess it's been too long since I last reviewed this store so here's a new one. I've been trying to lose weight (10 POUNDS DOWN IN 2 WEEKS AS OF TODAY!!) so I decided to order my groceries online to stop me from impulse buying. I've gone back to eating vegan so I was very excited to see that the Gardein products that I was buying had a coupon attached that allowed me to get free Gardein Ultimate ChickNTenders!! I love these things! but the HEB website seemed to be having some issues. It wouldn't apply the coupon to my order! I even went back several times to make sure that the items I got qualified. In a list of the qualifying items all my items were shown to be added to the cart. So, I decided to add a remark to my order explaining the situation. I listed out the coupon deal as well as the products I'd purchased. I assumed it that would be enough to ensure the coupon was applied. But you know what they say when you assume. Getting home I noticed there were no tenders. I called and after a bit of explaining (the situation was a bit confusing for the employee) she said to just come back and re-checkin at curbside and they'd bring it out. Luckily, I don't live far so I agreed. Back at the store the girl came out quickly. But the product she pulled out the bag were chicken strips that I'd already bought. I told her that was not the product. She was very sweet and went back into the store to get the proper product. When she came back she handed me the bag. Before leaving I checked to see what she'd gotten and it still wasn't the proper product. By now I was just over it and wanted to get out of traffic. I'm disappointed it wasn't the advertised product. This is my original favorite HEB and the rest of my groceries were great! I don't come here as much since the new HEB opened. I might try to new one for grocery pick up next time. Disappointing. Hope this is a one off because I love this store. My mom and dad worked at this store. Lots of friends as well. I'm attached but I might have to let it go to get the items I expect. Just a side note, I've never had the strips I was given and I'm nervous (they got whole oats in the coating *barf*) so they're definitely not what I'm used to but I feel obligated to try them after the hassle! LOL

I have gone to this HEB for year's. Tonight after getting home to make au gratin potatoes. When mixing the seasons with the milk and water. There were maggots inside the sealed pouches. Completely unacceptable. Take them off the self. Now!

More than anything this grocery store has changed with the times. They have expanded the number of check-outs and they are almost fully staffed. I love their "traffic control" employee that point out the isles that are open. When it's all said and done the sooner I get out of there with my groceries the better.

I totally heart my HEB! I know it's just a grocery store, but it's a really cool grocery store. First of all, it's ginormous, so even during high traffic times, it doesn't seem super congested. They have a huge pharmacy area that has way better prices than the Walgreen's across the street. The lay-out is pretty easy to navigate. The magazine and books section is stacked! They carry a good assortment of Central Market products, too, for the more fancy food inclined. The employees are generaly pretty friendly. I asked the produce guy for help picking out a good cantaloupe and he gave me some tips but followed it up with a freshness guarantee. He said that if I wasn't satisfied to come back and he'd give me another one. That's really reassuring. The only reason I can't push it to a 5th star is because getting in and out of the parking lot can be a real pain in the rump! But all the free samples I get on Sundays almost make the hassle worth it.

    Super bowl grubs!

This HEB is really dang close, so I guess you could say it's my HEB. However. Who the hell drew the plans for this location? Between 4 and 6:30, I absolutely refuse to go here. Coming from the 35 side of Slaughter, the traffic is atrocious getting into their parking lot and even worse leaving. I will go to the Super Target if I need a few things before I get stuck in that hole of traffic peril. For big time grocery shopping, I'll go to the HEB on Brodie and William Cannon. These guys carry enough for a quick night run or what not though. Layout is a little weird, and even for all the times I've been, I'll still get a little bass-ackwards when I'm looking for the cheese or soy milk. Otherwise, I've always had good customer service and at the end of the day, it's still HEB, which will always be better than Wal Mart.

This is the worst HEB in Austin. Management is horrible, always out of stock, fish area smells rotten and no meat department.

However, the traffic in the area and the parking have gotten increasingly more hectic and chaotic. Because of this, I have been using a location out in the 'burbs. I would give 5 stars but because of the chaos, I have to give 4. The store itself is chaotic inside but can still navigate, employees are that TJ-friendly that we all know and love. They always have what I need. Like I said, just a nightmare at times to get inside.

Well, this is probably the best TJ's in the Austin area due its size and variety of healthy, eco-friendly products, so if you've not yet had the pleasure to visit, here's why you should: 1. Yes, it's in downtown at Seaholm but you get 1 hour of free, validated, protected garage parking right outside the basement doors. When you come in the garage, go forward and loop around to the left side to reach the marked TJ spaces. In 2025, you validate by entering your license plate number in the Metropolis kiosk - it's a breeze. 2. Bring an insulated bag for frozen items. TJ's has an impressive selection of high quality frozen seafood and prepared meals, appetizers, sides, and desserts that you won't find anywhere else at these prices. Lately my favorites are the assorted dumplings and other dim sum fare. Oh, and get ready for some fun on the freezer aisle, where you'll be tempted by all manner of sweet treats stored at eye level above the freezers. 3. Seasonal, limited edition items. Early summer was lemon season with lemon pasta, lemon pesto, lemon body care, lemon candles, and so on. My most recent visit, it was strawberry everything: tiny pies, mochi, dry cereal, etc. At Christmas time, my friends go wild for the kringle pastry selection. There's always something that will only be around for a few days, so you feel like you've struck gold when you get there before it's all gone. 4. Seasonings and sauces. TJ's has some of the best spice blends and prepared sauces that will punch up your home cooked meals. I am obsessed with the crunchy chili onion oil and dry crunchy chili onion sprinkle shaker, living in anxiety that they will be retired. 5. The nicest people! Everyone working seems to have a PhD in customer service. I always leave with a smile on my face after dealing with the friendly checkout counter staff person. There's even more to love - fresh flowers! awesome skincare dupes! great produce & cheese! excellent low cost wines! - but you'll need to come in & experience it for yourself. Bring your reusable bags!

Ok now that is out of the way. Review time: I really love this location so much. The store is huge with wide aisles making it easy to navigate compared to the smaller stores. Even if it's crazy busy on a Sunday afternoon you can still get to the items you need with ease. The store is still very clean and of course modern since the rebuild. Employees are friendly. The shelves are stocked fully 99.999% of the time. I live extremely close to the East 7th Street store (5 min away) and opt for this location time and time again.

I love that they have a parking garage so if it's pouring down with rain, one doesn't get drenched trying to get one's vehicle with a basket load of groceries. On the ground floor, there is True Texas BBQ with ample seating. One can take the elevator or escalater up to the second floor to the supermarket. On the escalater, there is one side for you and the other side for your trolly of groceries. I have abandoned my neighborhood HEB and now patronize this one at 2400 S. Congress Ave.

Contrary to another review, they usually have fresh fruit on hand; bananas in a basket and prepared fruit cups. They have a fair selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and coffees. They have sandwiches and other prepared food (e.g. giant $4 burritos) in the cooler. One time I had to ask for toilet paper and the guy brought it out from the back room. I suppose it took up too much space on the shelf. This is the alternative to Royal Blue, which has even higher prices, although Royal Blue makes some food in-house. On the whole, I prefer Second Street because Royal Blue has a weird vibe and some weird brands and this place is a regular store.

Honestly unremarkable. An independent convenience store that knows it can charge more because of where it is. The staff were friendly enough, but the stock was kind of limited. That might be due to so many people being in town that week but they seemed to run out of drinks fairly quickly. It's also no fault of the store but it's worth mentioning right in front of their doors seems to be a popular hangout for Austin's homeless. I don't think we managed a single visit here without being asked for change. If you need a quick snack they are in a great location, just don't expect an overly pleasant visit.

For a dollar and some change it's a great size! As I noticed other people gathering around the hot food line, I couldn't help but decide on getting a plate. I picked up the ranchero bisteak and chicken Tinga and for my two sides, I decided on the plantains and nopales. Both of the meats I decided on were extremely delicious in flavor and the beef was exceptionally tender. I got red and green salsa and it appears that the red salsa is a tad bit creamy, which is not something I've had many times before. It was unique and extremely tasty. As for the green salsa, I have yet to try, but I am sure it won't disappoint. I do want to give this place praise because I have passed it up before, but it is not a place to be looked over. There's so many other goodies in here that you won't find at a regular grocery store so it's definitely worth coming inside and checking out especially if you just want something to do. The people were so nice exceptional customer service. There is seating if you want to eat inside and they were playing good music. I almost forgot to mention how exceptional the sides were. Often times people mess up nopales, but these were delicious.
