This HEB has charged $153.88 to my checking account with my debit card that I did not charge. On Sept. 6 I bought groceries for around $76.94 and had to deal with the register locking up. I slid my card through 4 or 5 times before the register would work. On Sept. 8 my checking account showed the charge for the $153.88 which is 2 times my original order of $76.94. Their accounting does not show the $153.88 so they will not refund my money. My bank statement shows it was paid to the HEB at this location. The management suggested I shopped twice that day. The problem is the date and time stamp are exactly the same, down to the minute on both transactions. The $153.88 shows as an ATM withdrawal which is not possible because of the odd amount. If you shop this HEB take cash for this store or go to another HEB. read more

HEB @ Slaughter/Manchaca: I've been going to this HEB for decades. (1) Bathroom is nasty most of the time. (2) They overcharge for items (double charge lots of times). (3) They don't bag all of your stuff (watch them!) (4) They wouldn't give me my money back (or give me the item or even a store credit) for the item they charged me for but didn't put in my bags. They said because it was over a month ago, they couldn't. I come in from Buda, so I am only there about once a month!!!!!!!! They used to have no issue. I hear they have new mgmt. (5) They put my Atkins stuff way over at the Pharmacy area with the protein powders and stuff. (6) They discontinued my Diet Rite sodas. This is the last straw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now it could be that it was due to the corporate guys doing a visit, or it could be due to the fact that Halloween is just around the corner, or possibly because my coffee was just kicking in but for the 1st time EVER I had a fun/memorable shopping experience for groceries at this HEB location. This is the worst HEB in Austin. Management is horrible, always out of stock, fish area smells rotten and no meat department.

This is a clean, well stocked store with excellent employees. After 29 years in South Austin, I have shopped at most of the HEBs if not all of them down here this is one of the best in terms of price, selection and friendliness. Maybe because of the recent upgrade of the Wal mart on Slaughter or the addition of Newflower, the business at this store seems to have dropped off., so all of the previous posts about parking problems and lines and crowds are now moot points. I have been in on Sunday afternoon, which used to be chaos and crowds, and had a two minute wait to check out and my choice of parking spots within ten to the door. Sad for the company, hate to seem HEB- a Texas tradition hurting, but great for we who hate crowds and crazy parking lots. And I have price shopped between them and Wal Mart and HEB is staying competitive, so support local business! And the sushi rolls do absolutely rock!!! and i am not a big sushi person, but I always have a sample and buy a roll (often with a coupon attached) every time I visit. Great place to shop. read more

Prices are reasonable, selection is very good. They do have a wide variety of items here that I cant get at most other locations related to food allergy and health food items. Staff is average, they do their job nothing above or below the expected service. The lower rating is due to ongoing issues with the card readers that have repeatedly double charged my card. On more than one occassion I have addressed it with a managers on duty and was told I just had to wait for it to reverse which took five business day each occurance and was really inconvenient to have my funds tied up for that time period. They are knowingly using old technology that doesnt handle the volume of use its getting and while I recognize it is not something the staff can correct the company really needs to step up and take care of it. Aside from this frustrating reoccuring issue, I am quiet satsified with HEB as whole. read more

It needs renovation! I think something as simple as new tiles for the floors and frequent cleaning would be a good start. The selection is great, but it's not worth the trouble for me. A vist to the grocery store shouldn't make the customer feel like they've been working in the yard. Clean it up! read more

Not the nicest by far not the worst. Good selection, can be crowded. I like to go between the hours of 7-10pm just don't expect to have everything left in stock. Also getting in and out of the parking lot is a nightmare. read more

Shopped at HEB for years. Especially the one at Manchaca & Slaughter. I also know that I have a choice of going to Randalls on Brodie @ Slaughter, but I prefer to keep my money in Texas. My visit today to HEB on Manchaca & Slaughter was just for a couple of bottles of body soap. My wife received a coupon during her earlier trip there, and thought to myself, okay it's Sunday, if we're doing anything, we need to do it today, so to take an advantage of the store coupon as well as the manufacturers, I need to do it today. At the self checkout I tried to scan the manufacturers coupon first, and after a few attempts I gave up and started to scan the store coupons. When I finally got back to the manufacturers coupon once again and it still wouldn't allow me to scan it, I called for help. The self service cashier tried for about 5 minutes, then called another person. That person couldn't figure it out and called someone else. Well. this went on for about 20-25 minutes. During this time, the customer behind me could not believe what was going on. He stated "it takes 5 managers to figure this out"?. I laughed. Within seconds.... comes Justin, one of their managers. After a few minutes he asked which coupons did I scan? When I told him, his response was, you "can't double dip." It was pretty loud......where others around could hear clearly. This moment was pretty embarrassing. I thought that it was very rude, to have one of HEB's employees accusing me of cheating.. Well, after a bit longer, I decided to just walk away. I didn't say anything and went outside. As I was walking out, I realized that I had forgotten my coupon and asked for it back. Justin asked what I was going to do, so I told him. I'm going to contact HEB corporate about this incident. As I walked away, with a snarky tone, he said "Have a nice day". That said. As I was about to write this review, I decided to read a few, and I'm glad that I did. I had forgotten about the HEB on William Cannon @ Brodie, or the one at Circle C. I only go here out of extreme necessity anymore. I grew tired of going to the store with a list of items only to find that they were out of stock or replaced with HEB brand items. No longer can I get Sargento cheeses as they don't have them, large block cheeses of other brands are gone, yogurts have been disappearing on what seems to be a daily basis but of course the empty slots are replaced with HEB brand. Now I am generally OK with store brand items and I have used quite a few of the HEB branded items in the past however not everything is as good as other brands are. I once bought HEB brand plain cream cheese because.. get this.. they were out of the brand I normally buy. Upon opening I was greeted with a strong chemical smell not unlike that of toilet bowl cleaner. Further inspection revealed a tub of light yellow "cream cheese" that not only did not taste very good that even when I tried to pawn the remainder off on my dogs they refused to eat it. I have complained to the company, and I received a phone call from a manager at this location who said that they would have a grocery manager contact me about getting items I was looking for, that phone call never came. By the way, why would I want to request an item? If I need the items at that point it won't do me any good now will it? These same problems happen at other HEB's in this area as well as the store in Abilene. It is rather disappointing. If I want store brand items I will buy store brand items or I'd go find an Aldi. If I want national brands I'll go someplace that has them in stock. As others have mentioned as well, this store is dirty, dingy and horribly setup. I have been nearly ran over by the stockers and their carts. I have been ignored when trying to get to an item where an employee is stocking. I've waited in lines that are 6 and 7 people deep with 2 check stands open and the self checkout lanes and watched people stand around or ignore the fact that people are waiting. I have sense taken my business elsewhere, and it does not make me feel good but I'm not going to make 3 stops to different stores to buy the items that HEB has replaced. I drive right past HEB on my way to Randalls, I drive right past another HEB when I go to Target, Whole Foods, or Costco. Sure I may spend a little more on some items, but I would spend the money anyway going to these other places to get stuff anyway. Overall, I think the chain is starting to care less about the customer and more about making more money. I have shopped this location for 18 years and it used to be awesome. When I was out of town for extended periods I longed for an HEB in the area. I used to brag about how great HEB was, now I won't even mention it if people ask. Such a shame. read more

Every time I use this pharmacy I call ahead put my prescription request in than they give me a time, the next day , to pick it up. I go at the specified time , before work, and they tell me the pharmacist just started working on it (while they role there eyes because I, to them, am the most annoying customer that has ever existed) I than tell them that's not excepetable because they should of had it ready at the time they gave me. As the manager "Bob" and "lianna" role there eyes not dramatically gasping, again because im the worst customer ever, say I have to wait than told me I should of called. This wouldn't of been such a big deal but this is the 6th time in a row this has happened. I asked "lianna" why they didn't call me they had my correct phone number she than said they only call if there is a problem, I asked isn't a prime example of a problem? So I asked 5 times to talk to a manager than "Bob" slowly walks to the counter. He's no help, shocker and rolling his eyes the whole time while talking at me than laughing a little, im very mad by this point. I have worked in customer service for 17 years and this is the worst customer at any heb I have ever been too or worked at. If I did what they did when I worked for heb I would of been written up on the spot and spoken too for conduct. I guess there is no one in charge at this heb so they do and treat the customers like there expendable. I think everyone in that pharmacy should be fired I think this behavior has gone on too long and you would probably be better starting from scratch.
