H-E-B - Grocery Near Me - Austin, Texas

I know people have HEB preferences, and while I'm new to Texas (been here for about 2 years) what I can say is that the bakery is top notch at this location. I get donuts here every weekend and yesterday my wife came bebopping into the house with HEB cinnamon rolls and Now - sometimes the sell by dates on their meats are off. We've opened chicken 2 or 3 days before sell by date only to have it stink. While annoying, I really don't think of it as a huge complaint considering how friendly the staff is. They're always very polite and are really great to my son (some staff are always ready to hand him Buddy Bucks), and my wife just started using the pharmacy here and loves it. I also just got my flu shot here last week and it was smooth as silk (you know...besides the whole needle in my arm thing ). read more

With alol the bad stuff, it is so nice to be able to say I had a great experience this morning. The Guy from the Garden Section was a pleasure to speak with. I'm growing my 1st alvocado tree. He helped with the re potting my tree. I was surprised how much roots were connected to the main seed.I bought the alvocado there where I got the seed I used to grow my tree. He was very helpful and I got what I needed to move the tree. Wish I could post a pic. Tree is looking much better in a pot for its size. read more

Guess it's been too long since I last reviewed this store so here's a new one. I've been trying to lose weight (10 POUNDS DOWN IN 2 WEEKS AS OF TODAY!!) so I decided to order my groceries online to stop me from impulse buying. I've gone back to eating vegan so I was very excited to see that the Gardein products that I was buying had a coupon attached that allowed me to get free Gardein Ultimate ChickNTenders!! I love these things! but the HEB website seemed to be having some issues. It wouldn't apply the coupon to my order! I even went back several times to make sure that the items I got qualified. In a list of the qualifying items all my items were shown to be added to the cart. So, I decided to add a remark to my order explaining the situation. I listed out the coupon deal as well as the products I'd purchased. I assumed it that would be enough to ensure the coupon was applied. But you know what they say when you assume. Getting home I noticed there were no tenders. I called and after a bit of explaining (the situation was a bit confusing for the employee) she said to just come back and re-checkin at curbside and they'd bring it out. Luckily, I don't live far so I agreed. Back at the store the girl came out quickly. But the product she pulled out the bag were chicken strips that I'd already bought. I told her that was not the product. She was very sweet and went back into the store to get the proper product. When she came back she handed me the bag. Before leaving I checked to see what she'd gotten and it still wasn't the proper product. By now I was just over it and wanted to get out of traffic. I'm disappointed it wasn't the advertised product. This is my original favorite HEB and the rest of my groceries were great! I don't come here as much since the new HEB opened. I might try to new one for grocery pick up next time. Disappointing. Hope this is a one off because I love this store. My mom and dad worked at this store. Lots of friends as well. I'm attached but I might have to let it go to get the items I expect. Just a side note, I've never had the strips I was given and I'm nervous (they got whole oats in the coating *barf*) so they're definitely not what I'm used to but I feel obligated to try them after the hassle! I love the cashiers at this H‑E‑B they are always fast and friendly. My only complaint is that I tried curbside after reading reviews they always grab close to expired fresh vegetables and fruit.... Well they did. I got a bag of already expired and clearly wilted salad and bruised apples. Wasn't worth it to go back and complain but definitely worth it to go in and pick your own fresh meat and vegetables. read more

Like Whataburger, all HEBs are special and lovable in their own way. I love all HEBs, and this is my HEB. But ours is a socially distanced love, in that I haven't physically gone into any HEB since March 2020. Forget about it, Jake. It's curbside. Curbside is amazing. It's almost the exact same experience as HEB, in that you get all the stuff you want, and all you have to do is drive there and they put your order in your trunk. Please do not tell me you need to feel your own tomatoes and thump your own melons. It's HEB, everything they have is good. Let them pick it out for you. It's a freaking pandemic. I cannot say enough good things about HEB and the whole curbside experience, particularly during this pandemic era. I love when my order is finalized with a text that says, "thank you for your patience as we take care of Texans," because that is exactly what HEB is doing: serving the community, by selling good food. HEB is always adding new products I enjoy and has great prices on staples. I love using their website. I even loved accidentally buying a 40-pound watermelon, because I learned that next time I can buy a "personal-sized" watermelon. I'm also really into the Mi Tienda line of agua frescsas. read more

This H-E-B is my go to supermarket. What do I look for in a supermarket: Cold. Yes cold refrigerators. I want cold ambiance. Everything cold. Bright colors. Bright red beef. I want firm fish. I want non watery chicken. Bright veggies; yellow, green, red. I want fresh. I want items dated. I want best use by labeling. I want clean. I want organization. I want assistance. I want service. I need bread. Must be fresh. Need variety. I need options other than national brands. I need pricing. Good pricing. I need beer that is not expired. I need check out to be fast. Yes and yes to everything above. This H-E-B does a very good job. In offering everything I want. I am very happy with price point, With options, with the overall experience. read more

Curbside pickup and ordering online.....make sure you check your bags when getting home as they somehow seem to miss some items every now and then but still manage to charge you anyways. Also, check your product expiration dates! We recently ordered (2) turkey bacon packages a couple days before Christmas and after getting them home they had "best by" dates of October 11, 2023. You'll have to call and complain to get a refund. Also, if you don't explicitly check the box for "no substitutes" expect the ones the shopper chooses to always be the most expensive. read more

Today I went to HEB and when I went to pay I realized I didn't have my credit card. I informed the lady working in self check out that I was going run home and grab my cc real quickly. I'm about 5 min away so def doable. She said "don't worry we just got paid. I can take care of it." I insisted I would just get my card, but she took care of it anyway. Not only did she pay for my groceries she also saved me the inconvenience of driving home and back. This was just a great act of kindness that really warmed my heart. read more

Love the store but why is that there is never windshield washing stuff available at the gas pumps. And if it is, it is stinky. Paper towels often are out. Not that difficult to put in fresh windshield washer liquid and refill paper towels daily. read more

Since moving back to Texas I was happy to see HEB again. For me the prices are great but of course this is compared to the DC metro area. I can get many of my favorite things here and mostly the HEB brand is awesome. Check out the jalapeño hummus and HEB brand ice cream. Candy bar classic does not go out of style. I will say during the weekend you can score some samples. The parking lot is usually busy and best to go grocery shopping in the morning during the week. read more

So I have as far as close HEB's I have to choose between this one and South First and WM Cannon.. not a pleasant choice. This HEB is very nice and usually well stocked. The major problem is that there are about 1 million people who feel that this is their closest nicest HEB. Every time I go in this store I get bumped into by 10 different other shoppers and have to compete to get items and have a generally unpleasant experience. I checked in here and someone left a tip that this store is like an instant panic attack . I certainly agree.If you are in a hurry do not go here... drive a bit further to the Brodie Lane HEB. read more

More than anything this grocery store has changed with the times. They have expanded the number of check-outs and they are almost fully staffed. I love their "traffic control" employee that point out the isles that are open. When it's all said and done the sooner I get out of there with my groceries the better. read more

I totally heart my HEB! I know it's just a grocery store, but it's a really cool grocery store. First of all, it's ginormous, so even during high traffic times, it doesn't seem super congested. They have a huge pharmacy area that has way better prices than the Walgreen's across the street. The lay-out is pretty easy to navigate. The magazine and books section is stacked! They carry a good assortment of Central Market products, too, for the more fancy food inclined. The employees are generaly pretty friendly. I asked the produce guy for help picking out a good cantaloupe and he gave me some tips but followed it up with a freshness guarantee. He said that if I wasn't satisfied to come back and he'd give me another one. That's really reassuring. The only reason I can't push it to a 5th star is because getting in and out of the parking lot can be a real pain in the rump! But all the free samples I get on Sundays almost make the hassle worth it. read more

This HEB is really dang close, so I guess you could say it's my HEB. However. Who the hell drew the plans for this location? Between 4 and 6:30, I absolutely refuse to go here. Coming from the 35 side of Slaughter, the traffic is atrocious getting into their parking lot and even worse leaving. I will go to the Super Target if I need a few things before I get stuck in that hole of traffic peril. For big time grocery shopping, I'll go to the HEB on Brodie and William Cannon. These guys carry enough for a quick night run or what not though. Layout is a little weird, and even for all the times I've been, I'll still get a little bass-ackwards when I'm looking for the cheese or soy milk. Otherwise, I've always had good customer service and at the end of the day, it's still HEB, which will always be better than Wal Mart. read more

I have shopped here for 20 years. Many of the employees have been around for that long. If you need help, find someone and you will get it. People are friendly and helpful. I like a lot of the HEB brand products. Bakery is quite good. Had to quit the pharmacy due to continual pricing discrepancies. They discontinued some of my favorite products in the last 2 resets so I just go to Walmart for those. I still do the bulk of my groceries here. read more

I've shopped at this store since it was brand new. it's changed quite a bit over the years, especially after the last remodel. I'll concentrate on how it is now, although I seldom shop here anymore. The parking lot is always busy, and the congestion at the signaled Slaughter Lane entrance has worsened with the addition of the much needed gas pumps. That sounds like a contradiction in terms, doesn't it? I say much needed, because Southwest Austin is limited to where gas pumps can be placed due to the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone, so the companies that get storage tank permits typically charge eyeteeth for gas. It's good that H-E-B has leveled the playing field, even at the expense of the parking lot. The store itself has become massive since the last remodel took in an space they had in reserve to the west of the store. It was always a very large store, now it is a monster. They probably have enough square footage to turn it into a Plus! store, but they can't pull off the outside garden because they're land-locked in the strip center by other tenants. This expansion has been both good and bad. The store has had a chance to stretch out and incorporate additional dry goods product lines. The aisles seem to be three lanes wide now, where they used to be only two. They haven't lowered the shelving height last I saw, which is bad. But the worst part is that they've played the "four corners" game with staples like bread and milk. That has you running all over the store to get everything you need so you can oogle all the high profit margin items on the endcaps. There is simply no reason for the milk to be where it is in this store. Four corners is an OK trick in a smaller store, but in this one, it's sheer torture. Heaven forbid you forget to get something and forget until you are on the other end of the store like I did once at 11 PM after a 14 hour day at work. Please, guys, learn a lesson from the H-E-B Plus! in Kyle and put the milk and bread reasonably close to the registers? Another good thing is that the frozen food section is among the largest I've ever seen in an H-E-B store. But, they don't always use this to their advantage to expand selection; instead, they seem to delight in stocking multiple rows of the same product to the exclusion of more variety in product. If you're going here to use the customer service counter to pay bills, find another store. This must be the only location in the '48 to send money to Mexico, and the lines and delays are correspondingly long. They do seem to have added more checkout lanes, which were under construction last time I was there. And they've added the self-checkout lanes which I love. That way the laundry detergent and bread don't share the same bag, and the salmonella on the egg carton doesn't transfer to the grapes. This used to be my "go to" store on the way home from work, but I'll do almost anything to avoid shopping here. Now that Escarpment is open, I'll drive the extra distance just to avoid the "miles and miles" of Texas experience that typifies this store's layout. read more

ELITE ICING. they used to have these babies readily available, but now it's just the buttercream icing and if you want the elite icing, you have to order it in advance. what is elite icing? it's more of a whipped icing versus the dense, hard, sugary crap that we're most accustomed to. sooo i wanted to have a cupcake cake made in the shape of a dollar sign. yes, i know. a slightly odd request. well i guess the dollar sign would've been hard to make, especially since they don't do cupcake cakes. if you ask, they'll say that they do. and when you ask for a representative sample, they'll show you a 8"round with 9 cupcakes surrounding it. um no, that's a cake with cupcakes around it. so i was going to have to take things into my own hands. the sweet ladies took my request to have 24 cupcakes with green icing. the day of pick-up, i realized i might need 6 more but wanted to arrange them into a flower. they took my odd request of spraying the icing-1 yellow and 5 pink. i'm sure they thought i was a little whack, but they didn't seem to mind. awesome, delicious, and moist cupcakes! although only offered in white or chocolate, both are fantastic and about 50cents each. no other fancy cupcake shop can compete with that! so while YOU'RE paying $2.50+ for your single cupcake, i'm nearly closing out a half doz ($3.28). eat THAT. read more

First if all, the moment I walked in door I was offered a delicious pot sticker paired with a fresh piece of a sushi roll. Might I say, they were both great. What next? There was something what was it? Oh yea! Spicy guacamole on a restaurant style chip,again, great! There was orange juice samples also but u didn't partake. Free samples on a Tuesday afternoon,perfect!! I originally came for some frozen mango for my glowing green smoothie (romaine,spinach,celery,apple,banana,mango) and found these smoothies for only $1.50! Sign me up! Only 11g of sugar, yay! The cherry on top to my lovely Slaughter H-E-B experience was every line was open! Everyone! It was a magical occurrence. Biggest pet peeve is when there's one or two isles open and tons of impatient customers waiting angrily. I am overly pleased with whole expedition. read more

For some reason the Austin HEB stores are organised completely different than the Houston area stores. I am not sure why but it takes some getting used to when I am visiting my older sister and/or father up here. Clean store. Good variety of foods and housewares. Went in for late night munchies; potato chips {specifically Wavy Lays} French Onion dip and ice cream. I wandered through the entire store once before finding the chips/snacks aisle I'd already walked past twice. And even on a long weekend I just don't understand parents that drag young {5 and under} children out of the house after 9pm. Sadly with this being the weekend it is it looked like a hurricane had hit the chip aisle. There was nothing by way of wavy chips Lays or HEB brand that wasn't flavoured. I understand high volume weekends but a store should be prepared for these things and get empty shelves re stocked as soon as possible. I'd settled on paying more than I wanted to for Baked Ruffles until I got to the register and the HEB brand of wavy chip in the "grab n go" bag were 2 for $1 so I bought 8 - the same amount I was about to pay for Baked Ruffles. Check out was a breeze and the employees were really polite and friendly. Even at 9 pm the store was crowded so I cannot imagine what it must be like during peak times/days. read more

It's hard not to give H-E-B a decent review when their food quality and prices are amongst some of the most competitive around. It's hard to beat their prices unless you're Walmart. I appreciate my local H-E-B more when I travel out-of-state. The staff has always been friendly and loves Smalltalk at the register. They are very giving with their buddy bucks, which my little sisters love. The best part about H-E-B is how charitable they are. I can't thank them enough for giving so much to our community and helping so many amazing causes around town. That alone is worth five stars. I love that they hire young individuals and even give people with disabilities an opportunity to work. Some locations can be sketchy, but I do depend on H-E-B to provide a fair amount of my groceries. I'm so thankful they offer an organic selection of vegetables and non-GMO food. I'm a huge fan of the healthy food aisle. They always have great prices on KIND bars and all my little holistic necessities. I mean....they stock Chia seeds! Be careful not to go too late at night and still stay in well lit areas as a precaution to your safety. This neighborhood isn't bad, but you just never know. read more

I am from Texas, and i do love HEB stores... I am actually from the particular part of town that this store is in and this store hasn't been upgraded since it was built! The two other stores close to this one are soooo much better, but sadly not as easy to get to as this one is to me. They don't have enough "natural or organic foods. Particularly meat and veggies. So i really only come here for the occasional quick need, bread, wine, ice cream ext. H-e-b let's get an upgrade here!!! read more

Overall I enjoy this HEB. It's not the fanciest and the parking lot can be a pain, but they have good produce and the store is always clean. Today I went in (on a Sunday... idk what I was thinking) and there were a bunch of sample displays out and they had the HEB mascot walking around. An employee was taking pictures and videos of the mascot and the sample stations. It's cheesy but it warmed my heart seeing them all seem passionate about what they were doing and enjoying being there. read more

We've been happy with HEB Delivery. The day that HEB forgot half our order at the store, they sent out another guy with the rest, except for the paper towels which he brought later. Last week HEB packed the Clorox Wipes, which we order each week, with the Boars Head cheeses and meats from the deli. HEB cleverly avoided that mistake this week by not sending the wipes, however they did charge us for them. Thank you for that. HEB managed to drop 2 cans of Zevia Root Beer which they then placed in a bag. One leaked all over everything and the other can is completely mangled and cannot be opened. The real bonus is that the cost of a six pack was $3.56 last week and now it is $4.08. Each can costs almost $.70 each. HEB always let the customer determine the driver's tip in the payment section, or you could give the driver some cash. Each week we added either $4 or $5 to our payment. This week it seems that HEB has decided to automatically extract a 5% "tip" fee for the driver. This week our bill was only $100, so the "tip" was in keeping with our usual contribution. Most of our deliveries are closer to $200, which would double our "tip". I don't think the new "tip" charge is a tip, since it is automatically charged to my final bill - that would be more akin to a fee. I don't think I can justify paying all the fees: 3% increase on each item for HEB; 5% increase on each item for the driver; $5.00 for the personal shopper; $5.00 for the delivery and $7.00 in lost products. The curbside at the H-E-B on slaughter Lane and Manchaca Road is HORRIBLE!! I've had to go back three times now to get frozen items that they left in their freezer and I already paid for it so of course I have to go back. All three times all I got was a "sorry about that" and it's not even genuine, they really could care less! read more

One star because I can't leave it blank. Shopped here for years. Buy a new mid sized truck and run in for some goods, come out to find a dent and paint scratched off down to the metal. Because it wasn't caused by an HEB employee they told me that it wasn't their problem. They didn't even offer as much as a gift card to try and keep my business. So I'll be shopping there no more. So disappointed in how they treated me in customer service! I bought a money order for a gift and when the check was printed by HEB the number 1 on 100.00 was printed over a line making it difficult for any bank to cash it.. after getting it back from the intended receiver I brought it back to have it corrected so I can send it again..Instead, now I have to mail it to western union wait 30 days, pay $15 for replacement...!! Aarggh.. and I always said that was my fave store.. not when you have a problem! read more

You know the old saying: Don't judge a store by its strip mall. Ok, I made that up, but it's totally how I feel about this H-E-B! Lots of people avoid this location because it's not very pretty and isn't as large and in-charge as the Escarpment store, but I like it that way. Y'all go over there, out of the way, and leave my aisles clear! This store is clean, organized, and has everything I need. It's not swanky, but it's also not slam packed 24/7. The staff are helpful, and they are always making improvements. They now have curbside pick-up, have just added an updated self-check, and they are constantly upping their inventory of specialty items. I love my H-E-B! read more

Just moved to this area and this is my closest HEB and I'm disgusted. Their meat products are spoilt even though it's weeks before the expiration date. I've bought ground beef, bacon, steaks and they were all disgusting and smelled nasty once the packaging was opened at home. Health Inspector needs to check this location out before someone catches E. Coli or salmonella poisoning. I've also bought prepackaged produce that was already spoilt as well. I'm giving this place 2 stars cuz the staff has been nice so far. Please do better to ensure the health and safety of your customers with better quality meat and produce read more

Just skip curbside at this location. The curbside is poorly managed. I showed up during my time slot at this location and it takes 45 minutes. Go to another location or another store. Instead of limiting the pick up times based on their staff availability, they just make the customers wait forever. It's a convenient location for me and I like the store, but skip the curbside, it's horrible. read more

As a fellow HEB partner, not at this location, I was appalled by the serious lack of enforcement of COVID precautions. I understand it is hard to enforce everyone to follow the rules. (6ft of distance and masks covering mouths AND nose, even just wearing a mask) I understand it is even difficult to enforce rules during busy times of business during the day when people are already rushed and uncomfortable, but what I saw during my visit was a poor reflection on not only this location but HEB as a company. I saw multiple customers wandering the store without a mask or wearing their mask incorrectly. I saw 0 attempt by HEB partners to enforce proper mask wearing and social distancing within the store. I even observed partners ignoring social distancing with customers in the aisles. HEB prides themselves on being one of the best places to shop and one of the best places to work, and great precautions are in place to make it one of the safest places to shop as well, especially during these trying times. What I saw today during my visit was unforgettable and unforgivable. I will definitely be trying curbside next time I shop at this location or simply take my business to another location. read more
