Carlos shared that money was tight and asked if my husband would agree to collect his wages when they pass inspection. My husband understood the situation and agreed. 5 months later and he still is owned for over 90 hours. my husband drover his own work truck, used his own tools and even paid for some supplies of out his own pocket. We had a flooding issue in and outside our garage with the April Rains. We could not find anyone to help us ASAP, everyone was about a week out. Carlos was able to help us the same day. What a horrible contractor. BEWARE!!! Everything Martin said in his negative review is true. Carlos and his unreliable team did subpar work with cheap materials. He didn't even finish the work. There were bad angles all over, gaps in the trim, off measurements and more. He and his team never showed up on time, sometimes cancelled and he even told me that he was putting higher profile clients first and that our job was beneath him. On top of this whole bad experience, after he was called out for his subpar work, he proceeded to report our home for some code violation we werent even aware of which we have now spent well over a year trying to rectify. H&M demoed and redid my flooring, bathrooms, kitchen, fireplace and new paint throughout. As the work progressed I continued to add new projects because I was so pleased with the quality of work. Carlos and his team did an outstanding job on our remodel. It was a LARGE project and they exceeded our expectations. They knew exactly what our vision was and executed it. The crew showed up every morning at sunrise and stayed until the days work was finished. Everyone on his team is professional and respectful. One thing my husband and I always say about Carlos is that he has the most calm demeanor. We lived in the house during the remodel. I hired H&M through a referral to design and build a 3br, 2.5bth 1,200 sqft ADU (A to Z) behind a house I own in Logan Heights and they knocked it out of the park. I've been in Real Estate for 17 years so I know how difficult it is to find a good contractor and builder. I have one now. Carlos and crew did an exceptional job in regards to the qualify of build and craftmanship, they showed up on time and got through City inspections quickly, and we came in on time and on budget without any significant change orders. Anyone that deals with builders on a regular basis knows how rare that is. His right hand man, Leo, was our project foreman and he did an amazing job communicating with me throughout the process and dealing with a tenant I had in the front house as far as scheduling utilities and shutoffs. This was not an easy job, especially through COVID. I highly recommend them (although I'd rather keep them for myself!) and I'm already building 2 more ADUs with them. I met Carlos while walking past a property that he was flipping in my neighborhood of North Park/University Heights, I saw the transformation before my eyes and admired their work so much that I asked to "meet the guy in charge" and got his business card as I always like to keep a rolodex of good general contracting services :) I am a property manager of both long term rentals and short terms vacation rentals in San Diego. In June 2017, I was in a state of panic as one of my vacation rentals had a water emergency. There was a slow water leak underneath an upstairs bathroom and caused some serious water damage to drywall and subfloor. We didn't see it until the leak started dripping through the drywall ceiling. I was in a panic because I had already lined up all my summer vacation rentals (literally back to back reservations), as high season is in June, July, & August. I had to get the bathroom fixed ASAP and it required demo'ing of the bathroom shower (which is tiled), bathroom vanity, and all the surrounding drywall. My time frame was 7 days before my next reservation. I had a couple general contractors look at it, and they were very discouraging saying it would take longer than a week. I called Carlos as I had recently met him while walking past the beautiful property he had flipped in my neighborhood. We spent 10 minutes talking and he agreed to come meet me at the rental and take a look at it. He was very nice and knowledgeable about what was going on with the water damage and the things he would need to do in order to restore it properly. I told him how TIME SENSITIVE it was and he assured me he could get it done, but also laid out clear expectations for me as well. That night he drafted up an estimate for the demo, drying & restoration and within 6 days he had the project completed just in time for next vacation renters who arrived. I needed to replace the pitched part of my roof and redo a couple of sections of flat roof which were incorrectly installed. A previous contractor's work caused multiple leaks in my room resulting in extensive drywall damage in multiple rooms. I had a few contractors out to the house to check out the damage and Carlos was by far the most knowledgeable. He was able to troubleshoot where the leak was coming from and saved me a ton of money for not having to remove a window, as one contractor suggested. The thing that set Carlos aside from all the other contractors was that he was always on-time and responded promptly to voicemails and text messages. I have worked with plenty of contractors that simply do not have enough time for you or waste your time by not showing up for an appointment. Carlos makes you a priority. When he says he will be there he will be there! Carlos and his team were very professional and always onetime and worked quickly to get my job done. The drywall work was incredible and you can not even see where the damage occurred. The roof was replaced in a timely fashion and they even allowed me to make changes mid project to address some areas of concern. I was in a hurry to get patio slider doors installed. The installer I has planned on using was suddenly unavailable , and I decided to search on Yelp. Carlos contacted me right away and came out to see the job. He matched the orginal installers price and was able to have the doors installed the very next day. They used a very high quality sealant around exterior door framing. The installers that came out were great and seemed very experienced. We are very grateful for Carlos. Our roof was leaking and starting to fall apart. Our gutters were rusted, broken and completely useless. Most of the paint was faded, wood was cracked and the house really looked bad. A friend at work gave us his name, we gave him a call and set up the initial consultation. Carlos was super cool, explained things very well, walked through possible options and had a quote to us within the week. Our project had its challenges - HOA - need I say more.
