I stopped by Gyro's by Ali yesterday because a good gyro sounded perfect, and it absolutely hit the spot. My gyro was packed with beef gyro meat from one end to the other. I was actually hoping for lamb, but the beef was so flavorful that I wasn't disappointed at all. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. The guys working were super friendly and patient, answering all of my questions even things like the size and price differences between the hummus options. Their great customer service made the experience even better. This has quickly become one of my new favorite places, and I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fresh, delicious gyro and welcoming service! Only thing I noticed in the 'could work on' zone is it was slow before the dinner rush so there shouldn't have been any dirty tables. Had a good dinner at Gyros By Ali. Came in on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty empty. I ordered the chicken platter and a drink at the counter. Got my Pepsi at the fountain machine and placed it on a dining table. Used the bathroom and walked back to the table. Within a minute, the chicken platter was ready at the counter. Quick is an understatement to describe the wait time. The entree came with basmati rice, Greek salad, pita bread, and tzatziki sauce. Surprisingly, the pita bread was the standout. They were soft, warm, and fresh; the best pita bread. Everything else (chicken, basmati rice, Greek salad, tzatziki sauce) was okay to good. I liked the basmati rice at this place. The tzatziki sauce was on the creamier side, and I was really indifferent to it. I don't think Gyros by Ali have the best Mediterranean food. If you really want to know, it's not even close. What it has is VALUE. It has the cheapest Mediterranean food in town. The chicken platter was only $12.99. Their most expensive entree is only $13.99. For this reason alone, it gets an extra star. Good, average, nothing special. The Chicken Tikka, that's another story. This was some of the best Chicken Tikka I have had, easily topping any other in Tulsa. Moist, tender, spicy chicken breast meat on a bed of excellent seasoned rice. Good Chicken Tikka usually has a combination of ground coriander, turmeric, cumin, paprika, mild chili powder, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper that work together to produce that unmistakable fantastic flavor. This Chicken Tikka had that flavor and is covered with a drizzle of garlic aioli that kicked the deliciousness up another level. The flavors, the spices and moist tenderness of the chicken chunks reminded me of Chicken 65, only not as spicy. Both meals came with the very good seasoned rice, and fresh warm pitas with a crisp toasted edge. The restaurant is well worn, small fast-food décor and ambiance. No service. Order, pay and pick your food up at the counter when your name is called. Self-serve drinks. Get your own tableware, napkins and any condiments you want from a table by the counter. Bus your own table when you are done. The only service that is provided; they call your name when your food is ready. No tip earned. The price for the fast-food Chicken Tikka was $13.99. Their shop has gotten some really great reviews so I was anxious to see how their mobile solution worked. They were at Guthrie Green for Food Truck Wednesday so we gave it a whirl! Simple menu, gyros, with your choice of meat, and gyros platter. Platter was more expensive (about $9) than the gyro. Meat was chunked, both in the gyro and the platter, and in lot and lots of YEARS of eating gyros, this is the first time I have ever had square chunks of gyro meat...not a problem, just different. Normally they are sliced of the spool in strips... There were no tomatoes on the gyro, and although onions, not red onions as is standard. Sauce was good, and Gyro was delicious overall and a good value for the $. Platter was meat over saffron and cardamon rice with a little lettuce and two pita wedges. Meat was moist, rice flavorful, but a little pricey at $9 with just rice and meat and pita. It was tasty, and I ate every bit of the meat, but a side of tabouli or something to put it over the top, rather than a pinch of undressed iceberg lettuce, could have really helped and accentuated the value. I had the Sultan salad, a mixture of chicken and Gyros. The meat was well flavored. The Horseradish-based to Taziki like dressing was memorable. Just enough spice I throughout the meal. Delicious! The restaurant was meticulously clean inside. It's not fancy. But they rocked some good radio tunes from the white stripes and the Strumbellas. The guys cooking the food were friendly.
