I cannot speak on the salon itself, only the lash artist Cristina Phillips I've been going to Cristina IG is @fookyu_cristina since November. I always keep my appointments or try and reschedule if I have a sick kid or husband. I always pay without issue and always always tip. On 6/6 I had an appointment after work, like normal. My lash fills take normally 2-3 hours. Partially because I have a bladder disease and do take breaks to void my bladder. I let her know this day 1 because I don't want to make her late for other appointments or her family, etc. she never said it was a problem. Anyways after almost 3 hours of a fill, where my lashes were messed up from the prior fill 2 weeks earlier, I was shocked when I saw my lashes were NOT ok. Sparse and clumpy. She said she was sorry but I had so many baby lashes I couldn't have my full lashes. Paid $70 and tipped $20 cash. I drove home, which is 60 miles away. When I got home I saw just how bad they were. I messaged her and said hey it's not your fault but I can't do these I don't like them. She said sorry but then agreed to see me Monday, not Tuesday, and I said great. 30 min maybe we can get them fixed a bit. I showed up at 5:05pm on Monday 6/9. She wasn't there. The woman at the salon was doing hair and told me Cristina would be right back. 20 min later I messaged Cristina she didn't reply. She didn't even read the message. 20 minutes after that, I said I have to go. Salon worker apologized and said she didn't hear from Cristina at all either. I messaged Cristina and then decided to move on and try and find a new artist to fix and repair my eyes even if I had to be without extensions for awhile. After ONE ENTIRE WEEK, I got that weird message from Cristina. I had already moved on and found a girl who agreed to try and repair me. My eyes were bruised and in pain from the glue and clumps stuck on my lids. When I asked for a refund she blocked me from on FB and IG. If she didn't like me after 7 months she could've been honest. If she didn't like my queer family she could've been honest. I feel she purposely messed up my lashes and caused me pain and drama. Beware. I have many photos and my new last tech told me that Cristina glued the lashes to my LID. I am not perfect I pee a lot and I snore when I fall asleep, but I tolerated her vaping in my face when I was laying down and the 2-3 hour fills. After a disastrous (and expensive!) lash extension experience last week at a salon that shall remain nameless, I came to Cristina for help fixing them. She was honest and straightforward, we decided to remove them completely and reschedule for a new set. I would follow Kim, my hairstylist, to the ends of the earth. I just absolutely adore her and what she does to my hairs. So, when her and another stylist opened up Gypsy Roots Co, I was THERE. The salon itself is in a building with multiple other small salons. I wasn't familiar with this concept until recently and it seems they're popping up all over Reno now. Gypsy Roots is in the front space and has TONS of natural light. The salon itself is small, but so so quaint and comfy. I actually prefer it to the hustle and bustle of a large salon. The decor is darling and has an industrial chic vibe, plus tons and tons of plants so you know you're getting a good dose of oxygen while you're there :) I'm not too familiar with their line of products, but I'm planning to make the switch when I finish up my existing products because I trust everything Kim tells me, which leads me to my next point... Kim is, without a doubt, the best stylist I've ever had. She listens to exactly what I'm saying and will show me photos of hair styles to make sure we're both on the same page before she gets started. I've often sat down in her chair and she starts the conversation with "I've been thinking about your hair and want to do x, y, or z." What hairstylist thinks about YOU and YOUR HAIR on her own time?! I love it. Kim also takes the time to show me how to style my hair in a way that's practical and is extremely patient with me so I can learn. This is huge for me because I'm not good at styling my hair and she shows me how to do it in a way that I can replicate. I've sent several people her way and they're all still clients of hers because she's the very BEST. If you're looking for a new stylist, I would totally check this place out. Even if Kim isn't available, I'm confident any of the stylists will exceed your expectations! read more

Gypsy Roots Co is a super cute salon! I found my stylist Jade through the gypsy roots Instagram account. I have been in desperate need of a haircut for a year (thank you covid) BUT not anymore! I was able to book my appointment through the website and it was super easy. I got an email confirmation and was all set to go. Meeting a new stylist always makes my anxiety levels go through the roof, I have encountered a few of the not so good ones in my life, so I don't look forward to the experience. Today as soon as I stepped into the salon, all of those worries went away. The space is very welcoming. It is very clean and I watched them sanitize the station after the previous client, definitely covid compliant and following all the rules for the health district. I love the natural products and all the plants everywhere. I love that I was able to talk about holistic healing with Jade while I was there, in fact, it was easy to talk to her the entire time I was in her chair. Jade not only listened to how I would like my haircut, but she gave me ideas on what would look better with my hair type. She also styled my hair super cute today and the products smell super good! I'm very sensitive to chemicals in hair products and so I appreciate the safer hair care and the attention to detail. Also, my appointment at 3 started at 3! I moved to Reno about 6 months ago and had to "break up" with the hairstylist I had been going to for almost 10 years. It's always a little daunting finding someone new, and I tried another salon in the area that I liked but didn't love, and then happened to stumble upon Gypsy Roots on Instagram. I've found my happy hair place!! Scheduling on Vagaro was really easy and convenient even when my schedule changed and I had to change my appointment date. The salon itself is so light, bright, and full of plants, and the products they use are good for the planet - so that immediately made me feel good. Kim is a total pro and also such a sweet and warm person. Despite my first visit being a late afternoon appointment on a Friday, she took ample time listening to what I was looking for and checked in for feedback throughout. My hair is fine but there's a lot of it, and sometimes it can look weird if it's not cut just right. Kim gave me an excellent cut and blowout that still looked bouncy and shiny 2 days later, and holds its shape well even if I don't really style it and just let it air dry. Kim did corrective color with a beautiful cut that shows off my natural curl! I wanted to transition my heavily processed, dry, hollow, black/ purple hombre color to something more natural. Kim made my hair is shiny dark brown with mahogany ends that are just a couple of shades lighter. The ends that had been heavily processed & hollow are now silky and rich in color.
