Overall, my experience with the stylist was okay at the beginning when we met. I gave her the benefit of the doubt by giving her a chance to do my hair, correcting the mistakes. On July 10th, the stylist canceled my Saturday, 07/12 hair color appointment by text to say that she is canceling. This was done abruptly. In addition to the concerns I mentioned, I was disappointed that I wasn't offered a referral or guidance on where to go for my extensions after the appointment ended unexpectedly. Lastly, I was deeply surprised by a false accusation regarding a comment I supposedly made- something I never said and have no knowledge of. It felt unfair and added to the discomfort of the experience. I hope this feedback is received constructively, as my intention is simply to share my experience. After 30 years of life, I decided that it was finally time to see why everyone I knew made time in their busy schedules to go to salons and get their hair colored on the reg. I was pretty nervous, but Courtney is a MASTER and made the whole process easy and stress free! She explained everything she was doing and what things were going to look like in the interim so I didn't freak out when I saw how bleached my hair was after the lightener. She absolutely nailed the natural look I wanted, and I am obsessed with my results. Lokal Salon has been open for about 5 years in the heart of Midtown, is female owned and operated, and SO CUTE inside. It's everything you want in a salon: super trendy but welcoming, with tons of natural light and a relaxing aura. All of the stylists are really experienced and offer a huge range of services, but if you can get Courtney you will not be disappointed! I'm absolutely in love with this little gem of a salon and my hair GURU Chanelle P.! She's awesome and it's always a fun time in her chair. Her talent is beyond amazing and she's my favorite hair stylist to date. I've had amazing ladies work their talents on my hair in the past, but Chanelle is so cool and easy going, and ALWAYS gives me what I want. I hardly have to explain what it is I want and she brings my vision to life each time. She just GETS me, ya know? ;) *insert heart emoji here* The salon is super cute and simply styled in a fun, minimalistic way, with lots of natural sunlight filling the salon (also makes for capturing those perfect *after* pics to show off your new 'do!). It's located in the heart of midtown and offers plenty of street parking as well as a private lot for clients of the building. The salon sits on the second level and has a pretty sweet view of the mountains in the distance. I've been here more than a handful of times since last year in November 2016, not long after they opened. I'm always looking forward to each of my visits here and I will always be coming back for a long, long time. There's so many talented ladies here that you're bound to love whomever you go with. I've been here twice, first time was for a balayage and cut. Color didn't turn out the way I wanted the first time, but the stylist got me back in the next week to fix it at no additional charge. I appreciated that and the color was good after the second try. I recently tried to schedule just for a cut and treatment for breakage. The receptionist said she would send a group message to all the stylists and get back to me. Two days go by, no response. Called again and left a message, no response to that. Tried texting the stylist I had worked with before directly and no response to that. Pretty awful customer service if you ask me. Don't think I'll be trying to go here again. read more

So very happy with Ali and this salon. I have been in hair limbo for over a year when my stylist for over six years decided to leave the industry. I went to a few other salons and stylists over the past terrible year and finally found Ali. Ali is fast and a perfectionist. I don't know how she does such great work in about half the time as my last favorite stylist and her price is reasonable. She makes my hair look great with color and cut every single time. This salon is second to none. The salon itself is pristine but what's truly unique about this salon is the talent inside. These girls are not just cute and incredibly well-dressed but they are also some of the most talented artists in town possibly even the state. I personally go to Krista, who is God's gift to blondes. Initially, I had gone to her for color and she took me from orange hair to white hair in one session. I have since graduated to the NBR extensions and am blown away by her work. It's truly remarkable. She has given me dream hair that I never thought I would be able to achieve. She is passionate, educated and a fierce business woman. I highly recommend making follow-up appointments in advance and keeping them. She's incredibly successful which in turn makes her incredibly busy; and nine times out of ten, BOOKED solid. Prices are a little more than I was used to but I have to tell you that I haven't had an experience quite like this one either. I have never been double booked, felt that I was rushed or sensed that the stylists' had somewhere else they'd rather be. I also don't have to go in as often which helps validate the cost. The product and the stylists are that of quality. You really are getting what you pay for. I would recommend Krista and this salon to anyone. :) read more

New to the area and was told this was the place if you want to go blonde. Each of the girls at Lokal have a very large following on Instagram and some of them even charge based on the fact that they are 'influencers' (that's cringey.) I contacted Marissa a few months ago and was told she does consults over the phone, but it took like a week to hear back from her. Weird being that these girls probably live and breathe from their phones but okay. The pandemic happened, my hair was not an emergency whatsoever but man was I pumped when I found out salons were going to reopen, so I reached back out to her and she told me when they open she would happily get me scheduled. I was leery about her pricing but you get what you pay for! Guess I don't need to worry about I'm being charged because I wasn't even qualified enough to get a response to give her my freakin money. I was happy to pay FRACTION of the price and just got a haircut by Alix at Outsiders where I've found a nice salon and a stylist I will be happy to patronize in the future. Look at your reviews Lokal, it seems I'm not the only one with this complaint. Marissa Knight was my stylist and it was one of the worst salon experiences I have had. First off she was 30 min late and didn't even bother to tell me anything. It would have been nice for her to walk less than 20 steps and tell me she was finishing up a client and would done soon. Next her prices are horrendous. She charges by the hour! This should have been my first red flag. $95 an hour!!!! Are you kidding me!! After she was rinsing the toner and dye from my hair she stuck her fingers in my ears and viciously rubbed the inside of my ears where my daith piercings are. I was in obvious pain and she was asking when I got them done. I said last year they take 9 months to a year to heal and she tried to argue with me. My piercings now have bumps on them thanks to her. I've contemplated writing this review. I've only been treated poorly by a salon/stylist once in the past. Now, I can say twice. I've know of Lokal for almost 4 years now. After moving to the west from Miami and in search of a salon that is somewhat affordable with amazing stylists and cool space, Lokal was it! I was amazed by how cool their group of gals were, the space so so pretty (right off a Pinterest board) and most importantly, the results were great. I stuck with one stylist to do my blonde highlights for quite some time and always left happy. I once reached out to her for my next appointment and she said she wouldn't be available. I asked her if she could recommend a stylist for me to book that day, and she said anyone was fine...this is someone that has been coloring my hair for 2.5 years now. We are always happy to see each other, catch up etc. It was always so nice...I was a little disappointed by her cold, unhelpful reply when I needed to be steered in the right direction for a temp colorist. Ladies, you know how hard it is to find a good colorist, especially for blonde locks. Darn...thought ok...strike one. I finally decided to pull the trigger months and months later with a stylist called Lizzie. We connected over IG and she was nice. Short with her responses, but nice. Then I noticed a trend. She barely paid any attention to my kind, thoughtful texts leading up to our appointment. I thought, ok..it must be in my head! Then just a day or two before the appointment, she says she now booked a wedding and can't do my hair...ok...can you see me the next day? She made it incredibly awkward and when we finally confirmed for a new date, I kind of dreaded meeting her. She seemed completely disinterested and borderline annoyed. The day came to get my hair done. First of all, a client should never walk in with that feeling of having their tail in between their legs. And that's how I felt. She was kind, I tried to make small talk and kept thanking her for literally everything. Once my highlights were done, I asked her if she could quickly check through it to make sure no oopsies happened with any highlights. She caught one in the back and said "yeah, one is pretty orange". She seemed annoyed... lord have mercy! I asked if she could please fix it with a big smile on my face. She said she was running late for another client and it would have to be later that night.. again, I'm there feeling so incredibly uncomfortable because this woman is borderline annoyed that she has to fix her own mistake. This is your JOB! We agree on the next morning to fix the highlight. I leave thanking her profusely (why am I being so over the top nice at this point ?) Next day, she fixes the strand, i tell her how grateful i am and she explains what we will do next time for my hair etc. Normal, right? Here's the kicker. I leave happy. I text her a week later to book my next appointment for a few weeks from now because I'm thinking of going a smidge blonder! More money for her! And from a client that was kind and patient (mistakes and all!) she doesn't respond for TWO days...finally writes me and I quote "Hey, I'm really sorry but I've just been thinking about how the last appointment went and I think it would be best for you to find another stylist. I just don't think I can give you exactly what you want. Thanks for understanding!" Wait, what? Man oh man...it takes A LOT for me to write a review like this. I sent the conversation to a girlfriend that lives in the area and coincidentally, confirmed that she too, did not have the best interaction with this same stylist. I'm so disappointed. This place is amazing and like any other small business deserves to thrive. If you're going to be in this field, lead with patience, respect and professionalism. read more

My review is for Allie V. I'm from the Bay Area but got married in Reno this past July. I did some research on salons in the area when I found out my local stylist wasn't available. Lokal seemed to have a similar style to my home salon and after browsing instagrams of specific stylists I reached out to Allie who was very responsive and easy to work with. I did a trial with her months In advance of the wedding and made some tweaks the day of, she even accommodated my grandmother who decided she wanted her hair done the day of. I showed up for my 10:30 hair appointment with Krista Storm on Tuesday, February 31st. She wasn't at the salon when I got there so I tried calling her. No answer. I waited in the salon for 30 minutes and she never showed up. A gal that was working there tried calling Krista from the salon phone and got no answer either. I still haven't heard from Krista or anyone at the salon to explain why I was stood up. I have two young kids that I had to make arrangements for that day so I'm pretty peeved about the experience. UPDATE: there was a mix up about my appointment because Krista has another client with the same name as me. Krista fit me in on Friday the 3rd and did a great job on my hair! When I came to her, my hair was so damaged, discolored, and messed up from my last hair stylist that I didn't know if anyone could help. I didn't have anyone touch my hair for a year after the bad experience. Trusting Krista with my hair has been the absolute best decision. She's done my hair multiple times since then and every time she outdoes herself!!!! Krista knows what she's doing and you can even trust her assistant because of who she's learning from. So my daughter recently had an appointment with Lokals Salon, her appointment was confirmed, then the girl texted her 2 hours prior to appointment time to confirm again, bumped her appointment time out by 45 minutes so she could fit someone else in. Then texted back 1 hour later to say she had the flu. This was on Christmas Eve no less. My daughter texted her back asking to be fit in the next week since she is from out of town and never received a response back. Very unprofessional. And to think we may have been using her for a wedding. I think we dodged a bullet.
