THE BEST SALON EVERRR!!! i cannot say enough good things about this salon. i came in for the first time to get my hair which was dyed brown (professionally) back to bright blonde. i found Maddie (double points for having a cool matching name to me ) on instagram and told her my hair history and she was able to book me for a consultation and color correction very quick! she was super flexible in changing my appointment when i couldn't get out of the house due to snow, and when i finally got in i was pleasantly surprised. she was able to correct my hair to a blonde in one sitting without compromising the health of my hair or too much length. and because i had previously colored hair there was some banding, which she gladly fixed the next day for me for no cost! the whole service only took about 4.5 hours and i have THICK hair as you can see in the photo below. Maddie still does my hair and it always looks perfect, isn't crazy expensive, and is great to talk to. all the staff is AMAZING, all the stylists are super sweet and same w the owner. they create such a welcoming environment. i love going to get my hair done and she always makes me feel stunning. the photos are before and after, and then how many foils were in my hair. Carla did my hair for my wedding and I could not have asked for a better artist. She was so friendly and excited from the start!! Every time I saw her she looked so happy and excited to be doing my hair!! I booked and came in for the trial and she had been busy doing unexpected additions to another client, she was so apologetic and you could tell she really wanted to do an amazing job on my hair and struggled with time juggling 2 people at once! She was a great multi-tasker and made my hair a dream! The day of the wedding I came in with some of my bridesmaids, they gave us snacks and cocktails, and frequently asked if we needed anything. This salon really puts the clients first. My hair couldn't have been more perfect and she gave excellent beauty tips as well!! If you're planning to get hair extensions, do not go to this salon. Maddie gave us a consultation to install extensions on my daughter. My daughter was very clear that she wanted to match her copper red hair color, and that she didn't want to see a harsh line from her natural hair and the extensions. When she spoke, she seemed very confident and so we decided to proceed. The total cost was $1,300, and waited a week for them to order the hair extensions. The end result was very upsetting. The hair color did not match. It was darker on top and the extensions were blond. We pointed it out prior to the installation, but were assured that it would blend in well, so we proceeded. I am including a picture to show ALL of the hair that Maddie cut off from the extensions and her natural hair. When she was finally done with the installation, the hair did not match, AND the haircut was completely jagged on the ends. The next day we went to a different salon to have her hair color evened out and trimmed. After less than 3 weeks, one of the wefts started to fall out, and by the end of the day, it fell completely out. We called and went to the salon the following day. She said that because she colored her hair at a "different" salon, is the reason that the weft came out. Bologna! Ultimately, we left with Maddie holding the weft in her hand. The owner Tres was also present to "defend" his stylist. He was very rude and unprofessional! Instead of apologizing , he "walked" us to the door. I recommend NOT patronizing this salon! read more

This business cost me $400 and my hair is nothing but a depression now! They posted my hair on their Instagrams and social media like they should be proud. Mind you it has not even been a month! ****Caliber hair and make up by tres**** $390 depression! STAY FAR AWAY! THIS BUSINESS IS SHADY!!!! I feel so sorry for these girls, with a better teacher they could really do some amazing things. Unfortunately Tres has zero customer service and if it wasn't for his girls I would have never went back, THREE times to fix my hair. The first picture was the first time I went in to get my hair done, super pretty, still not quite like the picture but I was happy, shocked at $390, I sat in the chair from 3pm to 10:30pm, barely seen Tres and he was supposed to be guiding them. They posted the first picture on their Instagram leaving out the top in which, Tres had me come in to get saturated again. Which was fine, except my hair turned out like the second and third picture, I freaked, his amazing staff got me back in for a third try. That is the last pic, 5 days later it turned into the other pictures. The girls there and the staff there is amazing, friendly and personable. But the narcissism and lack of customer service on Tres part ruins the whole experience. He will block you on all of their social media accounts and post your picture like he did something amazing. It's intrusive and it looks ugly on a business. PLEASE TAKE DOWN THE VIDEO OF MY HAIR YOU RUINED!!!!!! IT IS STILL POSTED ON YOUR INSTAGRAM!!!! The owner keeps flagging my pictures as copyright, I have emailed him numerous of times asking him to take the video of my hair. This man is so crooked and it's disgusting, he leaves you feeling taken advantage of and violated. My hair had never seen bleach, nor any kind of product. I can not believe the immaturity, all I ask is that you take down that video, I never asked for a refund although I should have, $400 for a beauty school quality, you have made my life so unnecessarily stressful. Back at the beginning of June 2020 I went to Caliber Hair Studio for a partial weave after the salons opened up due to Covid shut downs. My normal stylist worked at the casinos and unfortunately, I could not get in before a interview presentation, so my stylist referred me to Caliber. On June 4th I went in for the weave. The picture at the lower right was the example picture for the owner to use in how I wanted my hair to look. The picture at the bottom left is how my hair looked when I went in on June 4th. The top right picture (violet highlights) is how my hair looked when I left the salon on June 4th and the picture at the top left is how my hair looked after I left the salon on June 6th (dark brown). Since June, my stylist has still been unable to get my hair color back to what it was. I have to frequently go in and pay for toner treatments just to hide the violet work done by Tres the owner. I had about 8 color treatments between June 4th and June 6th that were over ten hours while Tres tried to fix the mistake he did with my hair. To add insult to injury, he charged me full price for this work. The only reason I gave two stars is his assistants that helped, were nice and genuinely seemed to care. I had three months of grow out prior to seeing Tres. My salon visit before him was on March 4th, just before the shutdowns. read more

Love this place. When I first moved to Reno I tried several premium cut businesses, but neither consistently delivered a premium experience. The most important thing to me is consistency in the quality of the cut and keeping appointments. I switched to Ryan at Caliber several years ago on the recommendation of a friend and I've been delighted with the experience. Easily the best hair experience of my life. Ryan takes his time, keeps great notes, is never late to an appointment, and delivers a consistent cut every time. Krysta has done my hair a few times when Ryan was out of town and she too is fantastic. Carla is also great. Tres runs an impressive operation. They have a stash of wine and whiskey in the back room so you can have additional relaxation if required. Highly recommend! read more

My wife made an appointment for her hair and makeup for an event tonight. 40 minutes after the appointment was supposed to start she was still waiting to get her appointment started. Totally understandable to be delayed a bit, but 40 minutes late is a bit much. On top of that, no one apologized. No one even acknowledged how late they were. The person doing makeup just kept saying "5 minutes" from about ten minutes after my wife was supposed to start her appointment. My wife finally walked out after telling the owner she could not stay or she would not be able to get home to get her hair and makeup done for the event. The owner still did not apologize for the issue. Terrible way to run a business. Guess my wife will need to find someplace else for hair and makeup for our Christmas party. read more

Caliber Salon and Makeup studio located in midtown Reno is the place to go for a cut or other hair treatments. Caliber Salon is a Unite studio. The Unite hair products is amazing. The cost of the products can be steep and well worth the price. My favorite is the shampoo and conditioner for my hair type. I can notice the difference when I use the Unite products in comparison with other competitor product lines. The owner of Caliber, whose name is Tres, is the person I see for my haircuts. I only get my haircut and have no need for hair coloring. I know of others who go to this salon for hair coloring and I can tell you that these clients have beautiful tones for coloring and haircuts. Tres has over 20+ years of experience and education in hair cutting and styling. Tres is actively involved with the Unite Academy providing lectures or hands-on training for others working in this field of study. Tres is definitely a senior stylist that brings lots of creativity into hair cutting. I have been going to Tres for approximately 24 months. Every cut is unique and fits nicely with the shape of my face and my hair texture. Tres is actively involved in the community by offering trainee positions for stylist that are recently out of school or are about to graduate from school. He is actively teaching the younger generations the tools and skills he has learned throughout his career. My haircut is expensive - $75 and worth the money. I recommend that you try Tres for your haircut needs. I have a cut that I can overall blow and be out the house within 5 to 10 minutes. I use few products before drying my hair but the cut is what makes it easy. Be prepared to spend a bit of time there for your appointment; you will be pleasantly pleased and enjoy the great cut that the stylists at this saloon will provide. read more

I should have known the first time. The stylist I made an appointment with was 30 minutes late at my first haircut appointment. She even walked in with another client she double-booked! I was at the salon for 3 hours for a haircut because I had to wait while she kept going back and forth between us. I thought I would give it another try, WORST mistake ever!!! I wanted to dye my hair now and was quoted and book my appointment. The same stylist was late again but this time close to 45 minutes late and even claimed to have been pulled over and received a speeding ticket to meet me at the salon. Pure bull crap story I'm sure! I sent a text of the picture I wanted my hair to look like a week prior to my appointment and my hair came out red however it was supposed to be purple!!! The stylist offered to fix it free of charge the next weekend, um ok. I also booked her to cut my daughter's hair the same weekend before the first day of school... This piece of garbage didn't even bother to show up! Someone else had to cut my daughter's hair and I had to cancel my hair dye appnt. My husband called to complain and another stylist told him that I could get a free consultation with someone else to fix my hair but could not offer a discount or anything else for that matter. I got screwed!! They took my hard earned money and had no problem with it! This place is shit... Their employees are shit and I will never recommend them to anyone or ever go back! When I booked my appointment with this salon, I was very optimistic about having a great experience. I was incredibly disappointed. The salon itself has a cute modern vibe. The stylist's assistant was friendly enough, but the first issue I had was that I did not meet the stylist before my hair was washed. I have frizzy wavy hair and I wanted to talk about the issues I had with my previous cut while my hair was dry so that he could actually see it. Maybe this is just a personal preference, but it definitely didn't give me a great first impression. Neither did the fact that the assistant didn't wash all of the conditioner out of my hair. I was also not a fan of the questionnaire the stylist fills out in front of me during the consultation. I was just getting a simple cut; I don't treat my hair chemically, and I wasn't getting a color. The first few questions were obviously to see if they could sell me on other services in the salon. The questions about my hair routine were boilerplate, but it felt so distant since they were coming from a worksheet and the stylist was writing everything down as I said it. I would have preferred being asked these questions organically so that there could at least some facade of authenticity. I have never had such an impersonal salon experience. One huge issue that I had was that I was told three times by three different employees how much my cut would cost. Maybe they have had people complain about the prices before, but I was already washed, combed out, and in the chair! The prices were clearly displayed and I was told the price when I booked my appointment. It was, frankly, insulting; as if perhaps because I seemed young and am a student they wanted to make sure I had the money. In fact, I went to this salon and this particular stylist because I wanted to spend more than usual to receive an extraordinary experience. Sometimes, you don't get what you paid for. I will say that my actual cut was very good, but not good enough to make up for this horrible experience. My stylist was not friendly and did not seem like he wanted to cut someone without a referral. It seemed like cutting my hair was an inconvenience to his day. When I was asked how I liked it as soon as the cut was done, I answered honestly: my hair is wavy, so I can't honestly judge it when it has been combed out and is half-dry. Even though he looked annoyed at this, the stylist prepared to diffuse it so I can see. It is then that I notice the amount of product that has been put in my hair at this point. The assistant used argon oil and a leave-in. During my cut, the stylist used argon oil (again) and preceded to douse my hair with more leave-in, so much so that it was wet all over again. Then two more huge globs of unknown products (maybe another leave-in or anti-frizz solution). Half-way through diffusing my hair, he put another glob of a curling cream in my hair. By the time he was done, my hair was so stiff and waxy that I could barely run my fingers halfway down my hair. Again, I couldn't say that I liked it because I never put that much product in my hair and it had no movement. I couldn't picture how my hair would look under my own styling because I was a big curly sticky mess. He seemed frustrated that I wasn't saying I liked it, so after a few minutes of me trying to calm my hair down, I decided it was just time to leave. He said thank you and walked away as soon as he could. I had to ask the receptionist about the products the stylist had suggested, that I was actually interested in, because he had disappeared. Before he left though, he made sure to tell the receptionist that my "extremely dry and really, really frizzy hair" had taken quite a lot of work, as if I wasn't standing right there. It was obvious that I had not had a good experience, so the receptionist gave me a few samples, which I appreciated. The products seem to be working very well, but buying refills would be the only reason I go back to this salon. Easily one of the worst (if not THE worst) customer service experiences I've ever had getting my hair done. Contrary to their apparent belief, I do not scrimp on my hair. I will absolutely be taking my business elsewhere. Maybe if they hadn't reminded me so many times how much I was going to pay, I would not have minded being treat so poorly. read more

I had a cut and color here in July and it was just ok. I did get the hard sell on products. I use very good products on my hair. The stylist said they weren't good products, but I honestly just believe she hadn't heard of them. I know that they use a great line, but I prefer to not spend $30 on shampoo when I can get perfectly good products for half that on sale at various places. (I'm talking about bumble and bumble and fekkai, not white rain, in case you are wondering). I did like the stylist ok and it was an OK experience. I am glad that I asked how much it would be before she started though. When I was finished and went to pay I went to the counter and she said the amount and a man there shook his head and pointed at the computer screen (which I could not see). She said, "But I already told her" and he let me know that normally because of the length of my hair it would cost an additional $25 for the color. My hair does require extra color because it is long, but I have never been charged so much as a surcharge. The Robert James color salon in San Francisco doesn't charge me a penny extra. The other two places I'd been to recently charged an extra $5. My hair is curly and goes about half way down my back. Anyway, it isn't a big deal, but it seemed a little nickel and dimey to me. Much the same as Sarah, I found Aquarius Salon via the wine walk. I am not a committed client in terms of my hair care - I'll be the first to admit that. But one of the main reasons for that is because I've yet to find anyone I feel compelled to return to for a second or third visit. Last week I got my hair colored & cut by Tres at Aquarius. I could not be happier. I gave Tres free reign on what to do with my hair, which was really long, no color, and no style upon arrival. Tres sat down with me and sought out information that helped him come up with a game plan. Bottom line - I LOVE what Tres did with my hair - both the color and cut. I gave him a couple basic parameters - need to be able to pull it up into a ponytail and need the color to look decent for well over 6 weeks. I'm not six weeks out yet, but don't anticipate any problems with the color as it looks fabulous now. And my hair is in a ponytail as I type this review - wahoo! I have to say, I was a bit worried as I watched Tres work his magic with the scissors, then the blow dryer, then the flat iron. I've never been able to replicate a professional style at home the following day. But Tres assured me a good cut doesn't require a trained professional to make happen every morning. He issued the standard disclaimer - follow the suggested product regimen for best styling results and my hair would be as effortless to style as he made it look. He was right. I was shocked at how good my hair turned out on day 2 of the new style (the crucial I-did-it-myself day). I scheduled my next appointment before I left the salon last week. I've never rescheduled upon departure from a salon. That's a big step toward commitment for this reviewer. And that speaks volumes about how happy I am with Aquarius Salon and Tres more specifically. PS: I was prepared to spend MUCH more than I did for what I got. BONUS: I got a free hand massage from the new aesthetician (beautiful red head whose name eludes me right now - sorry!). This review is for the previous Aquarius Salon. I only knew of this place because they were one of the businesses that participate in the wine walk. This was last year, and I finally just went in to the salon a couple of weeks ago. A friend and I stopped in after lunch to get our eye brows waxed. We didn't have an appointment and were hoping we could just walk in. The receptionist told us that the aesthetician had an appointment half an hour away and was pretty unsure about getting both me and my friend in. Luckily, the aesthetician said she would do both of us. Our aesthetician was Amanda Brown and she was pretty much amazing. She has an awesome technique to make it hurt less! She was very friendly and was able to keep a conversation going. Eyebrow waxing costs about $16 and will take about 15 minutes. If you fill out their customer survey they send a coupon for money off of a pedicure or manicure. read more

This place was so nice, I am from out of town and I need it a place to get my hair done for my sisters wedding. Not only did they scheduled an appointment for the next day, but they also opened the place early just for my mom and I (because the ceremony was early). Carla was so amazing and approachable that we convinced my sister to get her wedding make-up done with her. Carla was able to fit my sisters wedding make-up as well as my mom's updo and my Blow-Dry.
