I am so in love with the ambiance here. Five years after my first review, and my feelings haven't changed. I've been here plenty of times since then but I should definitely make these visits more frequent. This time I ordered the Cuban Pork, and it was incredible. For a second, I almost insisted that my friend taste it. Then it occurred to me that I didn't want to share and that a mere taste would be a tease, certainly leaving one to wanting more. Both the pork and the beans were infused with so much flavor. The sweet plantains were a delicious little side too. That dish was plenty but I had already made the decision to treat myself to a Papanasi for dessert. Wow! I don't even know how to describe it...fried crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, creamier as you move towards the center...complemented with a fresh, berries, jam, and whipped cream. Just wow. In addition to great food, drink, and atmosphere, Gypsy Parlor hosts both comedy and poetry events, among other things--but the spoken word arts are dear to my heart. Today was my first visit for a much needed happy hour. Erica, the bartender, was very friendly and down-to-Earth. The Gypsy Juice with gin was excellent (I thought it was an interesting idea to allow patrons to choose their own booze!), and the ambiance was kitschy, fun, and laid back. We tried a few appetizers and they were all excellent. The Banh Mi Poutine was definitely delicious and creative! We will definitely return to this little gem! read more

Was meeting a new friend and was not sure of his choice. However I was pleasently suprised when I sat at the bar. The place was clean, alittle much decor, but it all goes with the theme. I ordered a beer, which I was met with very prompt and friendly service. My Guiness was cold and fresh. I ordered the shrimp tacos based on the bartender, Tom's recommendation. That was a wonderful choice. They were hot, delicious with a well balance of crunch, freshness and spice. My friend ordered the stick chicken that looked very good. The firendly prompt service, atmosphere, light music made for a nice evening out. It was Thursday and early so not too busy but definatly got busy around 730pm. It's a do over / recommended spot for me. They are COVID complient with mask wearing by staff, along with reminding patrons to wear when not seated and spaced seating. read more

Although Gypsy rests in a gentrified neighborhood, they welcome everyone through the doors from the curious suburbanites to the neighborhood city dwellers, everyone feels welcome here. The bar staff are attentive and are good at making random conversations with anyone about anything. I had the special, curry coconut noodle with chicken and honestly I was not expecting the party of flavors to dance around my mouth like they did...I mean, it's a bar, I literally was thinking I was going to walk in there and order some wangs and a drank. This place is more than that. Gypsy celebrates the diversity of the neighborhood by offering up "west side" delicacies on the menu along with other worldly types of food such as Ramen, chicken wangs, Pastelitos and a cajun pasta. Its worth a try, plus Gypsy serves up a nice cocktail menu. If I have to say anything avout the Gypsy Parlor, it is that it is quite eclectic. Ive been here a few times now and have had a lot of fun. Most of my visits have relvolved around drinks but on occasion I have ordered some appetizers and have always been pleased. The staff is very friendly and helplful. My most recent visit left me somewhat disappointed. I went for Sunday brunch and the food was somewhat lack luster. We got there right when they open, 11 am and were seated in the very dimly lit dining room toward the back. Their dining room is quite charming with old world paintings and nick nacks. We were taking in the decor when the server brought over our coffee and took our order. My friend ordered the breakfast pastellio and pumpkin spice french toast. I decided to go with huevos rancheros and we both split a side of home fries. The service was great. They checked on us quite a few times for coffee refills etc. The food however was underwhelming. As for my dish, the eggs were nicely fried, but the accompaniments were bland and needed more flavor. A squeze of lime or a dash of salt would have brought out the flavor in the beans. The guacamole and salsa were under seasoned as well. The beans had chorizzo in them. I do like chorizzo, but there is a fine line between good chorizzo and a bad one. The smokyness from the paprika can totally over power everything, which was the case here. All this being said, I still have an appreciation for the Gypsy Parlor and I will definitely return to try some other things on their dinner menu. I've been hear four times, once to hear music at night. Had a great burger on that occasion. And the last two weeks for Sunday Brunch. $15 for Steak and eggs, you could pay double and not get a steak as good, but like many places they don't know what over medium means for eggs For the price I found their Fathers' Day buffet a tad disappointing. These Small complaints are more than covered by the friendliness of the staff BTW The ambience is great 9/17 Update stopped in today for brunch. Steak and eggs was off the hook, and the service was outstanding. This was my first time at the Gypsy Parlor, I don't really hang out Grant very much and only usually cut through on rare occasions. A few of my friends frequent here often and until recently I thought it was just a bar. After seeing the Sunday Brunch menu posted on FB I knew I had to check it out. This is really a great a space, for anyone that hasn't visited come through the front door you are greeted by the bar. Behind the bar there is a dining room with a small stage, on the right side there are washrooms and a back room with a pool table. For my brunch visit I decided to try the breakfast pastelillo and pumpkin spice stuffed French toast. I loved the colored glass water goblets and I don't know what it is but I love coffee served in a clear glass mug. Although I drink my coffee black, I love the visual . My pastelillo came out first, the standard size and filled with hot scrambled eggs, cheese and chorizo. I have to saw between the greasy crust and the filling this was my favorite. I'd like to see other options like bacon or ham as I don't love chorizo all the time but I have to say this was creative and a great accompaniment if you aren't having a savory breakfast but want a few bites of those items. My main dish, the pumpkin spice stuffed French toast wasn't as thrilling as I'd hope. I know that pumpkin spice is a subtle flavor however this was served with apples which although not caramelized and no real sugar added took over the flavor of any pumpkin. Additionally the sugar nuts, I don't recall if walnut or another kind were spread kind a thin. Over the dish was a tad soggy so that crunch would have been great. However please note I have a thing for texture in food dishes. Oh my friend and I split a side of hash browns, which are potato cubes which appear to be fired due to their dry crisp, they tossed some peppers and onion on them however due to being cooked separately they added nothing to the potatoes which did not soak up any flavor from them. I'm not writing them off, I'd love to try the salmon egg benedict and a few items on the dinner menu sound great. I look forward to coming back in hopes of greater experience. read more

The hubby and I went to the Gypsy Parlor this evening for our anniversary. It was our first time there. The atmosphere is comfy. Dark and charming. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. They were out of a lot of the vegan things that my husband tired to order, but he was given an order of buffalo style artichoke bites to make up for it which was nice. My husband loved them. We also had the fried pickles and buffalo Brussels which were both outstanding! He also enjoyed the Vegan naan pizza, which he said has a smoky taste to it. I had the black bean fritter tacos. I've been to the Gypsy Parlor a few times for brunch now and for drinks. The first time for brunch was Easter and the second was on Mother's Day. My mom loves this place, too. The staff are always so friendly. The atmosphere is fun and diverse. I am always amazed at the wide range of people who also pop in to enjoy brunch as much as we do. They do a great buffet brunch with veggies, salad, pancakes and sausages, a carving station, shrimp, salmon and sweet treats. We never leave with more room to spare. As for drinks, they do some mean cocktails but also have s great selection of wine. read more

I am INCREDIBLY let down by this place. Wish I could give it zero stars. From the moment my friend and I walked in we were treated with such disrespect by the guy at the door as if we weren't supposed to be there. Everything from his disgusted face to talking about our age was just unbelievable! My friend and I proceeded to the bar and got a drink then sat at a little round table. The bartender was sweet and came to check up on us once, thanks! What happened after I still haven't been able to wrap my head around. A minute before closing this guy comes up to ONLY us and says, "Get up, get out, finish your drink". I tell him we are waiting for an Uber and he says, "I don't care wait outside". At this point I'm in shock trying to finish my drink as he continues to hover over us. (Just to give you the right picture; there are AT LEAST ten Caucasian people at the bar that can apparently stay) With about one third of our drinks gone, our Uber still four minutes away, we get up to go as he rushes us out and walks us to the door. Here we are two females, alone outside, and cold after being kicked out while waiting for an Uber. This whole time not a single person walked out of the bar. So it really was just us they wanted out of there. I suggest if you have a little melanin in your skin you skip this place! I know Gypsy parlor has had Latin nights in the past and they have poetry nights too which is why this came as such a surprise to me. One of my favorite spots in Buffalo. I love the vibe in here when going out for a night with the girls. The decor is a bohemian Victorian feel. Sometimes you might be met by a tarot reader at the door, or get to watch a burlesque show, or groove to some local DJs. They also have delicious food!!!! This Place Never Disappoints. Everything on their menu is good. They have a designated menu for every season but they also have a special menu that they switch up about every other week. I have never had a bad meal here. And that's saying a lot. Throughout the week they have something going on just about every day from open mic night to trivia to terrot reading. I've had good times here. It's a good hang-out spot, but I can relate to the reviews of my fellow Yelpers. Your experience will depend on what you come here for. Alex L mentioned that there are various types of events going on different nights of the week. They have open mic nights (for music and poetry), karaoke, tarot card readings and djs. You're sure to meet interesting people there (if you're into meeting people) but they also have pretty good food. I agree with Christopher C about the allusions and corporate infestation (on certain nights) but you don't have to partake in that if you don't want to. Ultimately, this is still Buffalo and that's what you'll get in most "trendy spots". The underground culture isn't big enough here to carry a business, so most alternative spots are exploited. You gotta try the food though. The "dips" plate is pretty good, and the ramen is decent, though you may have to tell them to back off the salt (or soy sauce) a bit. The wings are really good, and they have an Asian flavor (for the wings) that they serve with a pindasaus (look it up!) that is amazing! I have had a couple other items from their menu as well and am usually not disappointed (I only recall being disappointed by the saltiness of the ramen). The karaoke and open mics are fun. The pool table is old, warped and the cues are horrible, but its something else to do there. i'll be back, and I encourage you to check it out too, if you're open-minded. I finally had the chance to go to Gypsy Parlor for dinner, and it was very good! I ordered from the restaurant week menu and was able to give special instructions/make requests without any issues! The server, who I believe is the owner, was super sweet, attentive and kind. The shrimp and andouille creamy creole dish was fantastic. I asked for it without the pasta, and it was still a big full plate of food with amazing flavor! My friend said her burger was cooked perfectly. The overall decor and vibe is so cool. I came here for brunch today with my family. They open at 11 but we got there around 10:50 (we were hungry) and they had their door open and we were able to be seated then. We had reservations but we didn't need them since they had just opened it was not yet crowded. This place was recommended by a fellow Yelper so I was excited to try. The ambiance was very cool. You could tell it was an older building which added character. They have a stage for I assumed they used at night. I ordered a Gypsy mimosa which was sparking wine with apricot juice. I was intrigued since this was different than your normal mimosa. It was very satisfying and I enjoyed it. We quickly placed our order and began to wait. We waited for around 20 minutes and they let us know at that point that their internet was experiencing difficulties and our order didn't go back to the kitchen until very recently and our order would be delayed in coming out. At this point we were frustrated because we were very hungry and ready to eat. They apologized and comped my mimosa and offered me another complimentary drink along with comping another meal. This is what changing my experience into a positive one. They quickly saw their error and made up for it in showing our appreciation for waiting. I ordered the chocolate Nutella pancakes and my mom ordered the stuffed french toast. We just ate half of the meal and shared the other half with the other. Both dishes were very good and hit the spot. Nothing like dessert for breakfast. I would recommend this spot for brunch. Very good and very friendly staff. read more

Stopped in quick one night and was blown away! So unique and interesting. Not like any bar I have seen in Buffalo yet. Decent size bar area with a back room for dancing. My favorite part though was that the separate room with a pool table. It was a nice quiet room separate from the rest of the bar. This bar is basically a house turned into a public place. But if you want to play pool, you can do so and even have a conversation without having to scream over the music. If you want to dance, you can head to the back room for some great music. Or you can also hang out by the bar and enjoy your drinks. Very cool place. I can't wait to come back. read more

I came here with my dad and a large group of friends last Sunday. I'd heard plenty of good things, so I was looking forward to trying it out. We all got there just as it opened and our waitress was busy because she had to mop the floors (it was a rainy day). We waited a little bit to be seated, but it gave me time to appreciate the ambience. I really liked it in here; the mood and decor gave the place a funky vibe that I enjoyed. The coolest part is the stage, cordoned off by velvet curtains that, when drawn, reveal a golden couch and neat little platform. My dad stayed at the bar while the rest of us went to our table. I ordered a whiskey sour that ended up being delicious and everyone else enjoyed their drinks too. Our waitress, as hassled as she was, filled our water goblets frequently. My friends and I, unfortunately, could barely hear each other talk because of how loud the music was. I have no idea how our waitress heard our orders. I got maple glazed chicken wings which were out in a timely manner. However, my one friend didn't receive her burger with the rest of us and it turned out they forgot to make it. I waited to eat until her food came, which the waitress comped her for. The wings were gross. The maple glaze was more of a maple drench and it had caramelized by the time I got around to eating my meal. They were so sticky and flavorless that I couldn't finish them. That's quite rare for me. Our waitress finally got some extra help in and my friends and I were done shortly after. My dad loved the bar area and had a great time, so we will be back to have drinks sometime and I will probably do karaoke here too. I've heard they do a good job with that. I don't know if they just did a crazy-good job in restoring this gem or if it's been sitting there intact since the turn of the century, but the whole venues oozes Victorian charm--and not in a fussy way. It feels like you might have stumbled in off Grant Street and found yourself in a gold-rush era saloon. Splashy velvet and metallic wallpapers, dark woods and ornate lamps are all paired with vintage images of burlesque dancers in gypsy garb. The whole vibe is just cool and relaxed and little offbeat. Friday night happy hour is definitely something to check out (I recommend the $3 gypsy juice made with rum). Be sure to try to food as well. It's an interesting menu that reflects the diversity of the community with Thai spring rolls, Indian samosas, poutine, stuffed sandwiches--really a diverse mix and all prepared well at reasonable prices. I don't know how many people know what the location was prior... It was once a loud obnoxious bar with the same sound every night... Doodahdoodahdoo goes the bass. NOW, a great spot to hang with friends. It is a bit if a "treehouse" everyone knows each other. Nonetheless gypsy has fun events to attend. Even without events, the location is close to elmwood village. A great alternative to get off the beaten path. The specials are always tasty & worth the price. We were visiting from NYC and staying in the Allentown area. We were looking for a good spot with entertainment and Yelp stated that this bar had a DJ Saturday nights. It was an older crowd, let me say the DJ was spinning oldies and it was off the hook good! We had such a fun time dancing and drinks were reasonable. Amazing space with many original architectural quirks featuring cheap drinks, by-the-hour-pool, cool staff, sit-down dining, a solid menu with seafood, veg, and vegan options, and then nightly entertainment ranging from open mic to poetry slams to burlesque to DJ's. It's not an easy trick to pull off this many kinds of entertainment (plus pinball and a fortune-telling machine) in one mid-sized pub without seeming to try too hard, but Gypsy Parlor does with some of the friendliest regulars you'll meet as a bonus. Finally stopped in for brunch after already realizing years ago they make one of the best burgers in town. There was a huge group taking up most of the dining area, so we sat at a high top near the bar. The bartender came right over to hand us menus, fill some waters, and bring coffee. They apparently have a bottomless mimosas, but we both had plans later, so we opted out. The menu isn't huge, but it is diverse. We ordered the chorizo flatbread, cranberry stuffed French toast, and a side of American bacon. The bacon was thin and crispy with lots of flavor. The flatbread had a fried egg on top that allowed just enough yolk to include some in each bite. The stuffed French toast had rave reviews from my friend and had an excellent presentation. The coffee was great and refilled before it was empty. Buffalo has so many brunch options and this is a solid contender for the normal rotation. read more
