We just moved across the street from this spot, and I'm so HAPPY we tried it tonight. I'm a huge "salad for dinner" person, but I was extra hungry and wanted a hearty, satisfying meal. Guytanno's Caribbean Chicken entree was AMAZING. A whole half chicken with amazing jerk spices and the best bbq sauce to dip it in. The meat was juicy and moist. I don't know what's in the braised cabbage side, but I want to slather it on everything I eat from now on. That mixed in with the rice and beans was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. We also ordered spring rolls for an appetizer. Those little fried bundles of joy were full of flavor and still piping hot. My husband got the Ahi Tina- he said it was really good but I was too busy eating a whole delicious half chicken with my bare hands to notice. Sorry guys, we might be new regulars. read more

We celebrated my birthday last night 12/15. Party of 8. Our server Cameron was amazing. We never had to ask for drinks etc. He was also serving a much larger party at the same time. We drove in from Bristol, RI for dinner. It took us a little over an hour to get there so we were more than anxious to get a good dinner. Guytanno's did not disappoint. There were four of us for dinner on a Saturday night at 6:30PM. I had called for reservations earlier in the day and not knowing the place, I asked if we needed to make reservations. The reply was yes! which was good to hear and they were able to accomodate us. We ordered drinks (wine and beer) and they were promptly served to us by an attentive and friendly waitress. Two of us ordered the Rhode Island Clam Chowder as our first course. It was very good with a little bit of a pepper taste. If you are not familiar with the "Rhode Island" version of clam chowder, it is not creamy. It is not tomato-based. It is just clear broth. However, it is delicious with a great clean taste of clams - that's what you get clam chowder for right??? Not for cream, not for tomatoes but for the clams! Try it. If you like the taste of clams you will wonder why more places don't serve the basic but tasty Rhode Island version. The Guytanno's version was great! I was disappointed in only ordering a cup of chowder whereas one of my dinner companions had ordered a full bowl - a great choice on his part. Our main course was enjoyed by everyone. Great foods, prepared excellently with large portions (that you could actually finish and want to finish). We had two persons that ordered the Filet Mignon which came with smashed potatoes. It was perfectly cooked to the specifications of the two diners. Another order was for the Salmon and again, Guytanno's presented and prepared the dinner very well. I had the Jumbulaya which consisted of chicken, cod, shrimp, little-neck quohog clams, mussels, Portuguese Chorizo (or chouriço), tomatoes and lots of rice (there may have been other ingredients but these were the main ones). Delicious from the first bite to the last! Not a overpowering spiciness but an immediately identifiable yummy spiciness. We concluded out dinner splitting deserts. We had the Lemon Mascapone Cake with raspberry layers and berries on the side and whipped cream on top. It was light and flavorful. It disappeared from the plate very quickly. The other couple had a special desert that offered that evening and I unfortunately can't remember its name or components. I can only say it was banana-based and was very delicious looking. My friends obviously thought it was also very tasty since that desert also disappeared very quickly. Overall, I think our experience (and others in my group) agree the Guytanno's was a very pleasant dining experience with great food and great service. I wish they were closer to Bristol so we could try the restaurant again more easily but I suspect we will be back. Try Guytanno's. You won't be disappointed. read more

Here with friends visiting this week and needed to get to this place, it's been two years. Wish I could have ordered a bit of each entree loved, but enjoyed all we had. There's always the "everything was great" as I remembered, BUT...our server was not a happy camper. Twice when I and my wife requested an addition change to an entree, her eyes actually rolled back. I guess she's not used to it. Last time here, my dish was not as creamy as it always had been, these are new owners as of a few years ago. So I asked if she could mention to the chef about adding more cream of whatever. Again, the face. And my wife a request with her dish. The face.This young woman never smiled or made you feel welcomed. The entrees came back as we asked and it was perfect, but the waitress never changes expressions or acts in a friendly manner. We eat out a lot and I know it's never always going to be perfect, but in this business, it really can mean just skipping this place the rest of the week. (as we will, don't need to feel as though I'm upsetting you) Geez! Maybe when coming back next year we will. And will certainly make sure she's not our server. We've always had great servers over the ten years. But I will also say she did do the things asked and it was great. Hate saying this but when I feel like I have I only leave a 15% tip instead of the 20-22%, but that's what makes me feel better. She may not have noticed it, but customers shouldn't be made to feel this way. (Don't think I ever spoke this much about a server, but it's important sometimes) if ever you want to avoid her, let me know. I have her name. LOL. To the mgmnt. if reading this, please tell some servers to not make faces to a customer who may add or make a change to enhance their entree. It's not the end of the world. Aside from my rant about that, please know, the food here is always great. So many great dishes to choose from. The grilled mussels are no longer the PEI mussels size. But ordered the full size. They're smaller but the garlic, butter and bread crumb topping are great. All our dishes were great and there was no rush with plates in between after being seated. Came in for lunch and was seated promptly and the waitress was very nice. I ordered a lunch portion of shrimp scampi and my wife a dinner portion of chicken and broccoli alfredo. My wife had a glass of wine which she enjoyed. I had a Harpoon IPA, which I understand was the go to IPA 15 years ago but there are a lot of craft options to replace it at this point. My wife enjoyed her pasta and I thought mine was good... except I'm not sure where the sand came from but I had the sand crunch so loud at times my wife could hear it. I "think" it may have come from fresh herbs, but I'm not 100% sure. Was shocked a dinner portion or even lunch for that matter doesn't come with bread for the table and a soup or salad. Really delicious and eclectic Italian fare. I came here with my boyfriend and his brother for dinner. I had a pasta dish in a mushroom sauce with cherry tomatoes and spinach. It was delicious. Went here last February for Valentine's Day. The atmosphere was nice and prices were decent. The service was great and the food was decent. Had a very nice ribeye that last time I was here, and my fiancé enjoyed the scallops. Food was fresh, and the sides were delicious. It isn't fine dining, but it is a great family restaurant and hometown spot. The menu is fairly large, but I really wouldn't call it international, more or less a mix of Americanized and Italian dishes much like how I cook at home. This place is amazing. Set back off Granite Street, once inside you are transported away! There's a bar in the center with 2 big, beautiful flat screens (they serve Tito's!!) We got the crab cake appetizer (holy shit!!) ate it before I could get a pix. Like my other reviews, I write this review after many visits to Guytanno's so my experience is not the 'One-off' experience and feedback. Guytanno's is tucked in a corner of Westerly, Rhode Island where New Yorkers, Rhode Islanders, and Connecticut folk converge, enjoy good food, and engage in friendly conversation. People who come here are always happy. The dinner crowd is on the older/retiring, retired, and well-to-do side, and most are the types with second homes near or on the water in Southern New England. I've been going to Guytanno's for 15 years and have seen what has changed and what continues to be consistent. While ownership and service staff has changed, the food remains consistently good. There are no white tables cloths, the menu is covered in plastic, 2 TV monitors sit above the bar and are always on, and the patron volume can get high. While the atmosphere may not be defined as a fine dining atmosphere, the food makes this place as competitive as any restaurant I've eaten in. They also don't skimp on the Bourbon in their Manhattan's. I generally go between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM to beat the rush. This is a big seasonal place so arriving any later than 6:00 PM during the summer/fall looking for a table is not going to work. You might be able to get a single bar seat - but this is always tricky. I have seen other reviews where customers have commented on poor service and the food not always being as hot as it should be. Remember, Westerly is, for the most part, a dinner 'food desert' so good restaurant food is hard to come by. Good restaurants that do exist will see a lot of business. Guytanno's sees a lot of business. At the summer peak, the place gets hopping crazy with customers - and sometimes the owner will go back to the kitchen to help out. The kitchen staff and wait staff are large but the summer popularity of the place seems to stay ahead of staffing. I would recommend trying to arrive for an earlier dinner. For those who've been dissatisfied in the past, I think this will improve your experience. As far as the menu items are concerned, everything I've tried has been excellent. In particular, the Lobster Fettuccine, Linguine & Clams, Veal Homard, and Filet Mignon Au Poivre have been excellent - and the portions are generous! read more

Heard it was good, it was my birthday and had a craving for Italian food! Won't be going back! Shrimp scampi was mostly pasta ( to much butter and only 4 small shrimp). Meal did not include any salad and we had to ask for some bread. Bread was ok, but nothing special. Decor looks like 1980's theme wedding and all the candle holders on the tables covered in lace looked like leftover centerpiece from wedding! . Way better places to go than this! read more

Went for dinner at Guytannos based on recommendations. Hostess professional and we were seated promptly. Waitress was polite and efficient. Ambiance was severely lacking for the high menu prices. Seemed more like a pub than a medium to high end restaurant. Customers were in flannels and jeans. Not a place for a nice date. Appetizer of mini mussels was fair - basically flavored breadcrumbs on mussel shells. Chix wings were fair. Even Ninety nines does a better job with chix wings. We did like the option that you could order 1/2 orders of apps. Scallop casserole was fair. Pasta with garlic was surprisingly dry and heavy on the garlic. Neither of us could eat the pasta. The chix Marsala had only 2 mushrooms in the Marsala sauce and the chicken was so tough I had to ask the server for a steak knife to cut it. Did not even bother to take our leftovers the food was that substandard. Will not be going back. It seems like the place is trying to be a high end restaurant but it is far from it! read more

My wife and I went here for the first time for Valentine's Day dinner. Had no problem getting a reservation right at 7:00, even though the place was pretty packed. Everything we ordered was excellent, the portions were generous, and the prices were very fair for what you got. The owner came around a couple of times just to check in and ask if everything was okay. We ordered completely off the specials menu and everything was great starting with the watermelon martini and the pineapple martini, the tomato, fresh mozzarella and balsamic salad was tasty with a dash of pesto, the cod and tiger shrimp was in a light but very flavorful citrus sauce with grilled asparagus and really nice mashed potatoes and the tiramisu was a nice sweet finish. There was also baked Italian bread with butter or oil that was good to dip in the citrus sauce. This is a warm friendly restaurant - clearly a family business and our server had a winning smile and personality. While there is a strip mall across from the restaurant, the restaurant is in its own building. There is also plenty of free parking. Locals were eating here and they said they loved it. Duck. Duck. Duck. No goose. Alright so after a long hot sweaty day at Misquamicut State Beach I had worked myself up a hard earned appetite. This restaurant is about 10 mins from the beach, hidden away from all of the clam shacks and food trucks. This place gets a star for the warm bread and oil (complimentary). I ordered the duck breast with veggies and mashed potatoes. They accidentally gave me risotto but quickly resolved the issue. Another star for service. My dog ordered linguini with some type of creamy buttery sauce. The food quality is on point and the menu is anything but underwhelming. I was so stuffed I couldn't even think about dessert. If I ever find myself in Westerly again I could certainly see myself returning to this restaurant. read more

I wonder when it was last inspected by the health department? Like other post-COVID places they are woefully understaffed. Our server Emma was absolutely wonderful. Very attentive and catered to our every need. They ran out of lemon beurre blanc and Emma requested the kitchen to completely make us a new batch. We loved our experience here and will definitely be back. Our busser also, Joe, was an absolute sweetheart. We were a thirsty bunch as it was a 90° day and he made sure we had water at least every 10 minutes. Cleaned our table for us as well! Made sure everything was packaged correctly and just so kind. I always take my bf's mom to dinner when we visit her in RI as a thank you for putting up with me. Naturally she gets to pick the place. This trip yielded Guytanno's as the dinner destination. Guytanno's doesn't take reservations and when we called, we were advised to get there before 6:00 if we didn't want to wait too long for a table. Geez, apparently people eat really early in Westerly. She wasn't kidding - when we got there right at 6:00, we got one of the last tables. Mom is a big fan of their lemon-pepper calamari, so we started with two orders for the table to share. Getting seafood on the east coast always seems like a no-brainer and generally tastes better than it does in the Midwest. We also started with a round of drinks. The calamari was good, but I wouldn't say it's any better than a lot of the calamari I've enjoyed in some of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. It had a nice kick to it from the lemon and pepper, but some pieces were a little soggy. Our server then came by to take our entree selections. I thought their menu was kind of all over the place - some Mediterranean items, some Italian, and some American. Nothing really jumped out at me so I ended up ordering a really simple pasta dish of linguini al oglio. I could easily make this dish at home, but I had a taste for it, and it's practically impossible to screw up. The others were more adventurous and ordered a lamb kebab entree, linguini with clam sauce, and grilled salmon. We ordered a second round of drinks while we waited for our main courses. Then we ordered a third round and waited some more. We're all pretty buzzed by the time we realized we'd been waiting about 45 minutes for food. Finally, our server comes over and apologizes for the wait and offers us another round on the house. By now, we've all had enough cocktails and just want our food, so we decline. It's another 10 minutes or so before our entrees arrive. The good news is that they're piping hot, which they certainly should be. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I thought my pasta was kind of bland. It's really only a few ingredients - pasta, garlic, olive oil, and parmesan, but not enough garlic or parmesan was used, so it just ended up tasting like oil. I figured I'd take the leftovers home and doctor it up and eat them tomorrow. Since we declined the offer of drinks (three rounds was plenty), Mom asked if we could have dessert instead. The server kind of bristled at the idea but consented and brought over dessert menus. The selection of desserts was very boring. I tried hard to want something (especially since it would be comped) but nothing sounded appealing, which is unusual for a dessert lover like me. We all declined and ordered cappuccinos instead. Again the server seemed irritated that we also bypassed dessert, but did buy our cappuccinos, which was appreciated. I'm not sure about everyone else's, but my cappuccino was really weak with barely any espresso, and this comes from someone who practically puts a cup of half and half in her morning coffee. Went with 3 friends a few Friday nights ago. 1st time there for all of us. Didn't have to wait for a table =cool I was surprised that it is really not a huge place, there is a good sized bar with an open kitchen. The decor was lacking something, I just can't seem to put my finger on it. I was also surprised that our waitress seemed very disinterested in being at work. She didn't crack a smile the entire time we were there, I am a watcher, I am in the business, I pick up on these things...at least ACT like you care about your customers! At least ACT like you are giving a shit & want to make some tips. I really don't think that is too much to ask. OKAY, Back to the food....Friend 1 got Onion soup to start & couldn't finish it off, so I took it off her hands. WOW-IEEEEE, I love cheese more then...well a lot of things & this crock was LOADED up with it. I was happy to help in eating it! Although, the dirty dish sat there until well after our meals were served, and (what I assume was) a bus person came & filled our waters twice and the unhappy waitress delivered our food....neither one of them took it away. Really????? Take the dirty plate off of our small table & free up some room! Jeeeeeez... Friend 1 who also had the onion soup got the Vegetable Focaccia, she was not impressed at all. It looked good but didn't deliver. Friend 2 got Chicken Maderia, she wasn't impressed either. In her words "It certainly was not delicious and was not worth the $15 or so that I paid for it" I think that sums it up! I chose the open faced steak sandwich & I have to say, my steak was cooked just right, but the bread it was served on was burnt to a crispy fry.....if I was in the kitchen, that wouldn't have gone out, no matter how flipping busy you are, you don't serve burnt food. Friend 3 had a simple chicken Ceasar salad. Properly dressed & good sized portion in my opinion. She was having a very emotional week & didn't eat too much but said it was good. Over all the night was fun chatting with my girls. Dinner experience, yes Yelpers muh...I have had better. Over priced for mediocre food, snobby waitstaff, untrained bus people....yeah this place was doing great at all of those things. I'm fairly certain that we just found the hidden gem of restaurants in Westerly! Warmly greeted by a gentleman, who we later discovered was an owner. Started with specialty cocktails, a watermelon martini and although not listed on the menu I asked for a spicy margarita, both extremely well mixed. Shared an app of seared scallops on a bed of soba noodles with a wasabi drizzle, fabulous combination, scallops perfectly cooked. Chose two of the specials, husband ordered the veal chop, which was served tomahawk cut and delivered a perfect medium rare as requested. I had the New England cod with lobster, a generous filet garnished with several pieces of lobster draped in light butter sauce. Both were accompanied with creamy mashed red potatoes and al dente carrots and green beans. Ended the excellent meal with special coffees and shared a Tiramisu. Our server was a lovely young woman who was both pleasant and efficient. This place has a great vibe! This was our first visit it will not be the last....... read more

I like duck. Duck is pretty rare outside of an occasional chinese dish, so about a year ago my friend who knew about this place brought over their duck salad and it was DELICIOUS!! So I have wanted to actually go in and try it out...see what else they offer and the like, and when this same friend gave me a gift certificate for $40 as a graduation present yesterday became the perfect time to grab my niece and go! The place is located across from the old Westerly DMV and behind Curves wich is kind of a strange and hidden location. I was even more surprised to go in and see it was larger then I had expected and even had a full bar! The atmosphere was nice and our waitress was absolutely great. My niece had 2 sodas, I had a nantucket necture lemonaide, ice water was provided without asking and refilled before they were empty. For the food we ordered two orders of the Chipolte Chicken Nachos and I also got a Guytannos Burger (ordered medium well) with caramelized onions and cheddar with a side of fries. The nachos were FANTASTIC! They used like a thin chalupa shell for the nachos so each chips was crisp and tasty whether it had topping on it or not. The ones that did were heavenly. My fries were great! Obviously hand cut and yet not soggy or too greasy. My burger was not medium well...and while not burnt was way more on the wellside (no pink). I had a few bites and found it a little overwhelmed by the bun to really notice, but I was full by this time and took the burger home to give to my mother, so no harm done. Overall A fantastic time! Total bill was $34 and some change so with only two bucks chipped in the gift certificate covered the tip and everything. Give this place a try! Italian fare. This place is like a roller-coaster. My companion had the organic tomato appetizer which was described as "orgasmic" followed by the lobster pasta, reported as very good. I was going to order the calamari but asked the server if they served the tentacles as was told "no, I wish we did", no reason given. The best part of calamari went elsewhere so I had a salad which was nondescript. For the entree I ordered the special filet (med rare) with gorgonzola and "house sauce of the side. Hint: I only asked for the sauce on the side. The steak came as med to well (i.e. not edible for me). The place was really busy, but that is no excuse. When a restaurant is busy is the time it should excel. Anyone can do it during a slow service. I was asked if they could redo my steak, but I declined. The special sauce tasted like a combination of orange and hoisin which made me glad I requested it on the side as it did not go with beef, duck maybe. The portions are large (plan on coming hungry). The prices are average to a little above. The service was excellent, except I thought our server should have fought harder to remove my entree from the check (I ate 1/4 of the steak). The decor is dingy at best. Some areas have rugs which are disgusting. This made me wonder what the open kitchen, food storage area was really like. What you get for the money: large portions, excellent service, dingy decor and up and down food. One surprise was the wine list was nicely priced.
