Back when I lived in Astoria, Queens my buddies and I had a few regular spots that had specials on weeknights for wings, burgers, and steaks. We affectionately termed these "discount meat nights." The Cafe's $10 burger and fries on Monday nights is easily the best Discount Meat Night deal around in 2026. Don't get me wrong, I still love High Hope's $20 smash burger and beer on Wednesdays, but The Cafe's killer au poivre burger and fries for $10 is just a monster deal. Visited for dinner without reservation after nearby troll trip. Enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. It was yakitori night so we started with some chicken and pork belly. Took a while to arrive. The pork belly was exquisitely rendered with beautifully charred skin and tender meat. Lobster roll served warm was very good, the lobster was a little overcooked but still a highlight. Buttermilk Fried Chicken had super crisp skin and was executed and presented perfectly, great tasting together with the accompanied pickled vegetables and hot-honey butter. The best dish of the night. Sticky toffee pudding was as good as advertised: sticky, textured, with interesting mouthfeel offset by lightly whipped cream. The service was excellent. I have no complaints there. I cannot say the same about the food. We split a roasted oyster appetizer that was more cheesy cream than oyster. I had a French dip never in my life. Have I had to have a French dip with provolone cheese and I have to tell you it was disgusting. My sister had the mushroom hostage dish which she said was OK but very bland. The noise level is beyond loud and it was freezing cold in the restaurant. Not impressed at all.!! read more

We LOVE the cafe. We visit often, sometimes for libations, sometimes for a bite to eat. Their burger night promotion is one of the best deals in Westerly. Chef Jordan and his team curate a rotating menu of burgers, which are offered for $10 on Monday nights. The included beef tallow fries are a wonderful value add to this deal. (Bonus: the gluten free rolls are NOT Udi's!!) We typically order the freezer door sazerac to accompany the burgers. They are always ice cold and refreshing. We did notice that our old fashioned's were $20/each the last time through, which felt a little steep for bulliet bourbon, but they were tasty nonetheless. Stopped in on the recommendation of friends that we must try the sticky toffee pudding. We complimented it with the espresso martini affogato, and it was a perfect pairing! My other half reported that he 'saw god' upon his first bite. It was everything I did not know I was missing, having lived in town for two years now. Finally made it for dinner and wow - so good. I had the tuna poke, which was essentially their version of spicy tuna with crispy rice. It was SO good. I did not share. For mains, I had the halibut which was the catch of the day. It was delicious. Sliiiiiightly overcooked, but still really delicious and I could have had the sauce with a straw it was so delectable. Entrees are boring, and overpriced. Service is slow. It took +10 minutes to get drinks, while waiting for our table to open, and that was after asking twice if the drinks were ready. That we could get a resi on Memorial Day weekend (Saturday) after calling the same day at 4p says it all. It was our 3rd choice. High Hopes was fully booked...I wonder why. We have been here 3 times. The service at the bar was amazing each time. The cocktails are great. They were accommodating of our requests and very friendly and hospitable. The one time we sat outside we were mostly forgotten but the manager hooked us up but comping our drinks and even giving us tokens to use on another visit. The best thing about this restaurant is the physical space--exposed brick, etc. Unfortunately, the noise level on the Saturday night I visited was deafening, not just "a bit loud" as mentioned in another review. Nor was the food worth it--the menu is appealing, but the items we ordered were either under- or oversalted. Service was ok, with food arriving quickly. The town needs a restaurant like this--there doesn't seem to be much between The Ocean House and the many pubs and pizza places downtown--but I prefer to dine in places where it's possible to hold a conversation without straining. read more

If you come here hungry, prepare to leave that way, unless youre prepared to spend $$ additionally on top of beverages and drinks, easy $300 tab for 3 people for a 3 course meal + alcohol which rival some decent steakhouses imo. Now if your idea of a night out is ambiance and atmosphere, then youre in the right place (as it does give off an interesting old vibe). As a foodie however, i appreciate both value + quality, which this place has none of, but rather all smoke and mirrors but again, good ambience. The oysters were delicious, but I do lovee some oysters. The croquettes were savory, crispy, and delicious. The deep fried artichoke hearts were a new delicious treat to me! Returned one recent Wednesday afternoon before an author event at Ocean House. We walked around a bit before our reservation at 3p and arrived a little early, before they opened. Lucky for us there were high tables set outside in front of the door so we chilled until someone noticed us and kindly let us in. Being the first to arrive we scored a lovely table for two in the window which allowed for people-watching. The staff were pleasant and helpful as usual. I had a vodka tonic and my friend had seltzer with lime. Or maybe it was lemon, I don't remember. She had a salmon burger (no bun) with a side salad and I had a mushroom burger (no bun) with a side salad. She only ever gets the salmon burger so that says something right there. Again, it didn't disappoint. My mushroom burger was the bomb--a little too well done for my taste but oh so tasty, topped with grilled mushrooms, cheese, a lovely sauce, and a sprinkle of onion strings. To call the side salads that undermines their fabulousness.... mixed greens with the most delicious salad dressing imaginable. Service was fantastic. I love this place and will be back. read more

Where to begin..... Guess for this one I will start with the exceptional staff...From the host, to the bartender, to the bar manager and everyone in between the staffing has been top notice. It's taken me while to get caught up with reviews, and by now I've stopped in with both family and friends and everyone has been equally surprised and pleased. The unique drink selection is tied to movies and like nothing else you'll get in the area. I am a huge fan of the hummus dish, bread board, and all the pickled plates. Dinner dishes have been equally as pleasing and the deserts are out of this world. Let's get to it! The food: *Creamy Tomato Soup- this dish was as described and perfect for a cold day! What really made the dish for me was the buttery-crispy focaccia bread that came with it. It was sliced in a way that made it perfect for dipping. But hey, I've never met a piece of bread that I didn't like. *Roasted Beet Napoleon-the goat cheese offered a tartness to this particular dish and the texture paired perfectly with the softness of the beets. The saba (most similar to a balsamic dressing I'd say) and pistachio brought the flavor into this dish. The prosciutto, I mean who doesn't love prosciutto ?! This earthy, salty, light, and savory dish is a nice start to any meal. *Cacio E Pepe Fondue: This was a great twist on a charcuterie board. Who doesn't love fondue?! The cheese paired perfectly with the tart and salty dishes offered on the board. The fingerling potatoes were served warm. The apples, paired with the cheese, were a nice sweet and savory pairing. The house made croutons were perfect for the fondue (soft enough to eat but sturdy enough to scoop!). Ambiance: This place is beautiful. Low lighting and covered with art. The relaxing music and calming ambiance offer a perfect date night spot. Service: Our serve matched the energy of this restaurant perfectly. She was informed, efficient, patient, and kind. Parking: Parking can be tricky in season and/or during peak hours. There is parking available on the street. It might me best (depending upon the time) to park on a neighboring street and walk over. Amazing. Probably in my top 5 now even though I'm just visiting the area. Meatloaf dishes are usually too thick but this one was just perfect. The Guinness sauce was just right and same with mashed potatoes. Waitress, a blond woman, was very good. Was not expecting to be wowed like that. We had a bridal shower brunch for 16 people in the fireplace area. It was a perfect setting. There was room for us to mill around when we first arrived and there were extra tables for gifts and favors. Some of the guests had serious food sensitivities and the staff could not have been more accomodating. They let us set the pace of the event, and the service was impeccable. Each of the guests ordered an entree from the menu, but they served family style appetizers and desserts that were delicious, and more than enough food. I've been meaning to write this review since I ate at The Cafe on Oct. 16. I was spending the day meandering around Watch Hill and Westerly and really just wandered into The Cafe on a whim. Steve Corrigan was doing hosting duties and showed me the menu, which looked promising. Cut to the chase: The food was great (yummy bacon burger with fries) and the beer was local, cold and delicious. The service was super and everyone was friendly and welcoming. If I lived in Westerly, or anywhere in southern Rhode Island, I'd be here all the time. It would be fun to sit at that huge bar and chat with friends over a drink. The Cafe is part of an arts complex that includes the United Theatre next door (three screens), a gallery and a performance rehearsal space downstairs. Rhode Island's NPR network has a small studio there also. It's an impressive arts center that is helping to give downtown Westerly a boost. I love, love, love The Cafe!!! It's, so warm and cozy, chic, charming and the food and service is wonderful! Have you tried their chocolate vinegar cake? It's to die for! Really! Their decor is eclectic and their art collection is museum quality, curated by Hilary Pierce Hatfield, president and lead curator of Art Collector's Athenaeum, a Philadelphia-area company. They wanted to create the feeling of places like Sardi's and the Brown Derby. Displayed on the walls around The Café are many menus from famous restaurants, along with black and white photos of Sophia Loren, Lucille Ball, Dean Martin, Muhammad Ali and John Wayne, impressionist paintings, modern art, Bemelmans of "Madeline" fame and mirrors that reflect the warm atmosphere of this absolute gem we have in Westerly. read more

So my wife comes back from getting her hair did and she says there's a place in Westerly with great burgers. I almost wore jeans and a hoody. I'm glad I didn't because this was a gorgeous place with great food and atmosphere. Our server made great suggestions, was prompt and attentive without hovering (if you know, you know....). I had the Cafe Burger and it and the sweet potato fries were served just right, moist, delicious, perfect. My wife had the salmon burger, she said it was delicious and light but still with the heft and "feel" of a burger, and held together like a burger should as well. This place is awesome. It's HUGE inside. It is beautifully decorated and it has a great ambience. Stephen the manager was funny, personable, and gracious. The other bartenders are all great as well. Amazing drinks, great appetizers, awesome dishes. Everything I've had here has been incredible. The meat and cheese board is great, hummus appetizer, burger, soups, specials, everything is amazing. I recently moved out of Westerly and I am really missing this place. Definitely my first stop when I'm back in the area. read more
