During the rains of this past spring, the roof over our entry way reached the end of its life. Because of my previous good experience with Gutter Ethics, I called them to see if they could help. They sent people out to inspect the leak. As expected, my roof had reached the end of its life, so we made arrangements to do a roof-replacement. They didn't have availability to handle the replacement, at the time, but they sent out a crew to put a weather-seal in place pending the roof replacement. When materials and staffing came available, they came out and did the roof replacement upgrade. As with the last time, they did quick, very detail-oriented work. Unlike when my neighbor replaced his roof, I found no construction-related debris in my yard when things were complete. Hopefully, the only time I see these guys again is for the yearly warranty-inspection and gutter cleanout. But, if anyone I know ever has need for roofing services, I'll definitely be happy to point them to these guys. The only thing that makes me sad is that they only do roofing and related work. I feel like if they did other stuff that I needed repaired/upgraded around my property, I could more than trust them to do it with excellence. read more

Gutter Ethics fixed some gutter issues I had with a previous gutter replacement I had done about 3 years ago. Needless to say the previous company did not do a very good job. I got my back gutters replaced, drip guards in the front and back, pipe collars on the roof, some cap shingles replaced as well as some flashing and roof work done around the chimney. Their initial estimate did not include work for the chimney flashing and plywood replacement around the chimney as they did not discover the leak in the flashing until after they started work. While I was initially upset at this new discovery as it doubled the original estimate from $1k to $2k, ultimately I was happy they discovered this leak. As another reviewer has noted, I liked how they created videos of the work they were to perform before they started work so you know they aren't scamming you. I will also confirm that they are slow to bill. It took about 3 months to get my final bill - not a major annoyance but I transferred some money to my checking account anticipating a bill and it takes some discipline not to spend money staring you in the face! :) They are also very blunt in their explanation of what needs to be done so that can rub people the wrong way but people always say they want companies to "level with them" so what more can you ask for? I would certainly consider using Gutter Ethics again. It's been about 6 months since they completed their work and the new gutters look to be working nicely. We had lots of exterior trim replaced and all the gutters and gable vents. I am very happy with the work that was performed. They seem to be very busy because I was told up front that it would be a month or more before they could start the job, but once they got started, they had a crew out there every day (weather permitting) and finished the job in good time. They never left a mess. I have only one minor complaint... They finished the work three months ago and even though I have made numerous requests they still have not sent me the final invoice and I know I still owe them several thousand dollars. read more

I needed some siding repaired to my house. I spoke with Justin (the owner). We was very friendly and honest. He came out within just a couple of days of our initial conversation. Justin told me that he would be there at 11am and was on time ( a real rarity with contractors) the siding was fixed a couple days after. I needed new gutters on my 4-bedroom ranch. Gutter Ethics responded quickly, professionally, and warmly. An estimator came right out and actually got up on my roof. This is an update to a review that I left earlier. Originally I reached out via multiple avenues and did not get a response. I left a pretty poor review because of this. Justin, the owner called me very shortly after seeing the review and apologized profusely for not reaching out previously. He went out of his way to try to make the situation right and sent someone out that morning to take care of the situation at a discount to me. He sent information and videos to make sure I understood what was going on with my roof and even personally called me back to let me know the services were complete. Company left me hanging despite a call with the owner giving a long spiel about why to choose their company. Talked my ear off for about 7-8 minutes. I needed a quote for a roofing and siding issue. I was told to fill out the form on their website, which I completed twice and never received a quote. Owner said someone would swing by the following week after the call and no one ever did. Bottom line is that they wasted my time. Time frame was around September/October when there was lots of rain in the DMV area. Regardless, I am not apologetic to companies that claim a backlog and make excuses. If you can't even manage the estimates and schedule, then I don't trust you with more complicated repairs. I need a simple, I'm too busy rather than broken promises. So much for the company that claims "ethics." Take your business elsewhere. read more

I moved to Woodbridge, VA more than five years ago. Over that time span I've worked with multiple electricians, plumbers, and HVAC contractors, yet Gutter Ethics is far and away the only service provider that I can confidently rely on to provide unmatched customer service with amazing workmanship at an extremely competitive price. I first reached out to Justin, the firm's owner, to clean my gutters and downspouts in 2013. Scheduling was prompt and the technician, John, took care of everything courteously and efficiently (and has continued to do so every year since). After servicing the gutters John took the time to address a number of deficiencies in my roof and recommended someone come back to walk me through the issues. Justin arrived shortly thereafter and took multiple videos and photographs of the roof, ensuring I was fully aware of a great number of safety issues that my own home inspector didn't catch prior to purchasing the residence. Since I knew it to be a large expense, I obtained quotes from a number of reputable, A-rated Angie's List firms. Though one firm was relatively in line with Gutter Ethics' estimate, none came close to providing the same level of responsiveness and genuine willingness to truly earn my business. After dropping off their material the day prior, Justin's crew managed to replace my entire roof (including the removal of two layers of shingles) in a single day. They also equipped it with a new solar powered attic fan, ultimately decreasing my monthly electricity costs. A couple year's later after a relatively severe hail storm, an entire side of my home's vinyl siding was totally demolished. Though it was a large portion of the house, multiple contractors refused my business because it was "too small a job." Not having realized Gutter Ethics also performed siding repairs, I called Justin and he promised to get the job done. Within days, John was at my home with an exact replica of my home's vinyl siding to ensure consistency with the remainder of the house. He worked until nightfall and visited early the next morning to collect nails and properly throw away excess material. The siding looks seamless with the remainder of the house and appears as though the storm never touched it. Though there are many roofing, gutter, and siding experts throughout northern Virginia, my phenomenal experience with Gutter Ethics on multiple occasions has ensured that they will always be my first call. When I recently reached out yet again for their assistance after more than a year in between calls, Justin remembered I had a young daughter and simply wanted to catch up and check on my family. John, a technician who has supported just about every job I've had with Gutter Ethics, repeatedly goes out of his way to walk me through each process and is quite possibly one of the best overall contractors I've dealt with in the area. It would take way to long to explain but I'll try: In March a bad storm came through the Northern Va area doing damage all over including damage to our roof here in Fredericksburg. Before contacting anyone about roof I had a tree removed to the damage visible to whomever would be fixing it. I called Allstate and they recommended I find a few contractors to give me an estimate. I called 2 one being Gutter Ethics about 10 days after the storm. I spoke to Justin who said someone would contact me about when they'd come out to look. I got a call they came out and surveyed and told me I'd hear back. A week past and decided to call, Justin said he had sent the estimate which I hadn't gotten, he said ok I'll resend it. Another week I called again and got the same response he decided to change the file and I finally received the first week of April. Waiting for another company to respond I informed Justin I had contacted Allstate and they were going to do the estimate and I'd be in contact. Well Allstate came out, did the estimate and gave me the money the same day! I contacted Justin and told him i would send him their estimate, it being more then he estimated I figured they'd respond quick. He said he'd look at and get back to me: to this day he never has!! Since my conversation with Justin that day in late April: I had an operation. 2 AC's replaced in my home. My sump pump replaced And my roof finally fixed in July by another contractor who actually returned my calls. Gutter Ethics may be a 5 Star company in their work but their customer service is substandard and needs a revamp!! I do not and will not recommend them to anyone. read more

Gutter Ethics is an honest family-owned business providing top-notch services. They only have a couple of guys who really know gutters, siding, roofs and trim and don't send or hire anyone else. They have installed new garage door trim, rake boards, both of composite material and it's holding up much better than wood despite facing full sun every day. They have also cleaned our gutters and installed gutter guards that lets melting snow through but not leaves. Our gutters have been clean for almost 3 years! Highly recommended ! read more

Updated review (5 stars): Justin contacted me to determine if we received our quote. He apologized that we didn't get it and sent the quote over within 10 minutes. The quote was very detailed and included a 5 year warranty. It beat our lowest bid on both cost and warranty duration. He also included 2 free gutter cleanings. Unfortunately we already signed a contract with another company, and while we could break the contract, we felt our word with that company should stand. We did decide to go with Gutter Ethics for cleanings and maintenance, since our installation company doesn't do that. We believe you learn more about an entity by how they deal with failure than you do in the fact a failure occurred in the first place. The 5 stars are based on Justin's effort to recover from a failure, which all companies experience. After we have our first cleaning, I will revise the star rating and review again based on our experience with their work quality. Original review (1 star): I called these guys in July asking for an estimate. Justin answered the phone immediately and seemed very knowledgeable and personable. He said they would send someone out and have an estimate to me the following week. It's now September, and I never got any estimate. I'd love to consider these guys, but if they don't follow through with any estimate, that's impossible to do. I'll be going with a company that wants my business. read more

Justin runs a very good business. I paid around $10.5K for a Certainteed pro shingle (around 23 squares) and 3 gable vent replacements. I was also quoted a cheaper shingle and a repair job. I went for the better shingles and a full replacement to avoid doing this again. Work was very professional and fast. Justin was super responsive and Tom (foreman on the job) kept me informed of everything. I walked around the roof after the job was done with Tom, and was very pleased. Tom worked until after sundown after the crew had left looking for stray nails with a magnetic rake. I'd give Gutter Ethics 4.5 stars because the plywood replacement (at $60/sheet) for 7 sheets, plus adding a 3rd gable vent replacement (at $285/vent) were unpleasant surprises. It was all in the contract, but given that most people need to replace some plywood, Justin should comp a few sheets or mark the price up a little less. "Day of" price increases with a crew on your roof and all the singles ripped off are never welcome. That aside, I would give this business a 5-star rating. read more

We have been using Gutter Ethics to clean our gutters for years and so when it came time to start looking into replacing our roof, we didn't hesitate to ask for a quote. Our plywood was starting to bend since it was old and was thinner than the standard building code currently used. Due to this, we started loosing shingles and the roof was getting soft. They have been so honest, professional, and perfectionist with the gutters and replacing our downspouts that we knew we wanted someone like that to do our roof. We got several quotes from different companies and Gutter Ethics was in the middle for price. BUT they offered the best products with their price. Our situation was a bit difficult since we were moving away from the area and renting out the home. We knew we had to replace the roof but were hoping to push it a bit further down the road but knew it would be in a year or two. That was back in June 2015 and they understood our situation. Our renters told us mid-Feb 2016, the roof started leaking in our sunroom and we had a feeling it was time. Justin Stanley sent someone out to look at the roof and also put a tarp on the sunroom to prevent damage until they were to replace it. Being such a big cost home improvement item and living in a different state, it was important to have someone responsive to us and we can't thank Justin Stanley enough for being so responsive. He always called or emailed back quickly to answer our thousand of questions. And there were a lot of questions. He was able to work the schedule to do our roof in our spring break so we could drive to VA to see the roof done. That week, it did rain and he had bad news saying our roof was being pushed to the right. Since we were half way there driving, Justin, was able to talk to another client and was able to switch us back into the schedule. We were blessed to be able to see the work done. The roof itself was done in a day because the plywood was super easy to come off...meaning, it wasn't going to last long so good thing we replaced it when we did. The guys worked hard and did an excellent job cleaning up afterwards. They replaced the skylights on the sunroom and everything looks wonderful. Even the neighbors were shocked at how fast and the great job they did. I wouldn't be surprised if our neighbors use them in the future. Gutter Ethics came back the next day and did the gutters. We couldn't happier with the work they did and so happy we got to see the finished product before heading out of state. Everything looks perfect! We only wish we could be living in the home to enjoy it right now. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company for a replacement of a roof, gutters, and even the routine gutter cleaning. This has been a long overdue review for this company not because of the company but because of my procrastination. We used them to replace our roof a year ago now and I cannot say enough about Justin, who communicated with us with such professionalism throughout the project. The workers were professional, on time and work hard to get everything done. Of the 6 roofing company, they were the most reasonable and the friendliest. An example of their professionalism, is that one of their workers has slightly, not even noticeable, dented one of the gutter downspout and Justin ensured that we got the right color replacement for the gutter and would not bill us for the roofing for almost a month until they replaced the gutter. They wanted to ensure that we are happy with the work and that they've replaced what they damaged. We really appreciated their work and highly and truly recommend them if you have any roofing needs. read more
