I would totally recommend this window company. I have a big house with about 40 windows that all…read morehave sail failure and need replacement. Because it is a big project, I actually contacted at least 7-8 companies for quotes and ended up using American windows because of their best price and the best windows brand and glass package. Energy efficiency was my priority so I want the best price and best windows which seems to be very hard. But Jay (the project manager) made sure I got what I wanted. The team went out to install 40 windows and they absolutely did an excellent job. They were super friendly and professional. I'm very neat and detailed so they made sure all windows are cleaned and properly installed. After installing, they vacuumed and even mopped the floor for me. I'm very pleased with their work !

Ben was our point of contact throughout the entire project. He came out to take the initial measurements, talk through the project, and generate a quote. It was a complete zero-pressure experience. After receiving the quote I made an appointment to visit the showroom (though Ben also offered to bring some window samples to the house). We really liked the windows (Sunrise Restorations) and moved forward with the project. The installation went flawless! I'm a bit of a perfectionist and usually have to stop myself from nitpicking on small little flaws from general contractors, but American Windows did such a stellar job I couldn't find a single flaw in their work. I'm very happy I went with them!

If you are looking for a very professional and very reliable contractor for your project, small or…read morelarge, then look no further. We did a full reno on the mid level of our home. Tore out walls, windows, doors, floors, lighting, stairs, tile, brickwork, and installed a totally new kitchen. Converted a garage to living space. This reno went about as well as anyone could ever hope...I think we are now spoiled to work with anyone else! We will be calling John again once we are ready to tackle the rest of our home. I have recommended Lakewood to our neighbors and friends.

We hired Lakewood Home Builders to build a 2-story addition following an architects' plans. The…read morework was completed in 2019. Since then, we have struggled to get them to correct problems. The mini-split systems their HVAC subcontractor installed have never worked properly. They run for a little while (long enough to pass inspection apparently) and then shut off and have to be reset. Their HVAC sub said they were getting new units for us, and now that I have asked again they say they are out of warranty so they don't have to. The new concrete driveway is deteriorating already. The deterioration seems to be only on the main portion so presumably a problem with that concrete pour. When I asked about the first signs of deterioration my concerns were brushed off. The driveway was also initially made narrower than the civil engineer's specifications so a strip had to be added to make it the correct width, which looks unsightly. They also cut corners with the architect's specifications. The back stairs were supposed to be low-rise - about 6.5" - to match our front stairs for accessibility. Instead they used higher risers so those stairs have a rise about 8" and are hard for me to use. The attic pull-down stairs that were specified to be insulated are not. I worry that there are more things that we just haven't noticed that were not done to specifications. We like the space, but the rec room is unusable in winter without a working heating system. Another warning - their HVAC subcontractor installed HVAC air vents in the floor of a bathroom including next to the toilet. Imagine what happens when the toilet overflows? Code allowed that (and may still, be careful) but it's certainly a bad idea (code does not allow HVAC vents in bathroom floors in commercial buildings) and I would hesitate to trust a contractor who built like that. I really wish we had chosen a different contractor.

Misrepresentation…read moreand lack of communication turned an exciting (and expensive) project into months of frustration. Project management was ineffective and rarely available when work was taking place. Elevated these concerns to management and after being assured that is was unusual, continued after the engagement. Most of the workers coming to the home had no idea what had been discussed or was supposed to take place. Mistakes and errors were brushed off with revisions, or changing previously installed work to accommodate for errors. Lack of planning and attention to detail. We will not be returning, and will include in our community newsletter to make sure our neighbors don't go through what we have.

I've been managing a major renovation at my home (we're talking $150K+)--entirely on my own since my husband works out of state and has ZERO involvement in household decisions. In fact, in the past 17-years since purchasing our home, my husband has NEVER been present when I contracted for renovations. This snooty woman took it upon herself to look up the deed to my home without advising me and then had the audacity to advise that %#*&% was listed in addition to me as the homeowner. PARDON ME? She then proceeds to say she couldn't schedule a visit unless the "decision makers" were available. Newsflash: being on a deed does not automatically make someone a decision maker--especially when they're not even present or involved. The whole thing was invasive, outdated, and flat-out disrespectful. If your business model includes digging into people's property records to decide who gets a consultation, you shouldn't be in business. Pro tip: It's 2025. If you're still using the "let me check with the husband" trope, you might want to take a class from a top sales coach and learn how to overcome objections without making sexist assumptions. Your sales training is showing--and it's not a good look. Congratulations--you just lost a $60,000+ job before you ever stepped on the property.
