Personally, a really good omakase spot in Irvine that's not too expensive and provides a good amount of food. For the $100 omakase, it's 15 courses and it definitely leaves you full. I believe all the dishes were pretty good, but don't expect coming here with a traditional japanese omakase because this place is korean owned. However, for a fusion, it definitely delivers. The flow of the courses at the beginning were a little rushed, but it toned down towards the end of the course. All the staff were super nice! We even ordered and hamachi kama and the portion size was great! The dish was also baked nicely and the fish was super juicy. Lastly, the interior of this place was beautiful. Stopped by Gurume Sushi for lunch and was seriously impressed! We ordered the Hamachi Kama and Salmon Kama Teishoku lunch specials. Both came with salad, miso soup, rice, tempura, and delicious side dishes. For just $22, it's an incredible deal considering the quality and portion size. The Kama was perfectly grilled--crispy skin, juicy, flavorful meat. The ambiance is clean and modern, and the service was excellent--friendly, efficient, and very attentive. This sushi spot is truly a hidden gem in Irvine! Probably because they're hidden by the massive line from Omomo Tea fans! We've been here a few times and have brought our family here for parties/gatherings and both times the staff were amazing! Everyone was super kind and helpful. Staff also gave us mochi ice cream on the house when we were there to celebrate a birthday. The food, especially sashimi and sushi were super fresh! My favorite would be the miso black cod lunch/dinner set! The set includes small dishes of pickles, shumai, tempura, salad, egg, and sashimi (for dinner)!! Gurume special don set was also good because the sashimi/fish was so fresh! Don't forget the OMG roll- that roll will have you saying, "OMG!" Everytime I visit Gurume Sushi, I thoroughly enjoy my experience. This restaurant offers a great selection of sushi rolls, bento boxes, and d appetizers. My favorite sushi rolls. My favorite roll is the Salmon Tataki Roll. On the inside, it has spicy tuna. On the outside, it has seared salmon, spy sauce, spicy mayo, and crispy onions. I also like the Gurume Fresh Roll. It has various types of raw fish in it. The restaurant offers various bento boxes such as miso cod, pork shogoyaki, and miso pork belly. Each bento box comes with small side sides such as pickled cabbage, tofu, seaweed, tempura, and sashimi. The employees are very friendly. I as a young woman ordered 20 pieces of salmon sushi as one does and when I finished 17/20 of the pieces as she picked up my plate I hear a whisper "she didn't finish" and two ladies started laughing, as I can understand broken Korean, I hear them talking about me and making fun of me for ordering so much. Sometimes what you are searching for is right there in front of you. This plaza is near my home and I frequent the Starbucks, the Omomo Tea Shop, the Trader Joes. Gurume is a new restaurant, and from the pictures, I thought it was a sushi and sashimi place. We discovered one of the very best Japanese restaurants around. The decor was wonderful. Each seating area was private and not crowded. There are a lot of angles, wood, windows, art, and style. The portions are huge and the food is perfectly prepared. Look at my pictures. Each dish be plated like fine arts, I really be impressed by chef's skill. The Omakase set definitely could leave you full with 15 courses. My favorites were their sashimi , which were thick cut, fresh, and full of quality. Next dish was Santen Nori , which was 3 courses appetizer , the dish was an interesting combination of flavors with freshness of oyster , creamy uni , caviar , and refreshing my tough with seaweed salad and taro pudding . Also, the A5 wagyu really a hit like a butter melted in my mouth. There were too many dishes, and each of them had very unique flavors. Loved the interior decor and the water feature in front of the establishment. It was a bit hard to find parking, but eventually I found a spot. I really appreciated that the music was soothing and nothing annoyingly loud, too. It's hard to find places that are more calm and quiet these days. Service was also great and attentive, thank you for a great dining experience overall. I liked that the servers all checked up on us to ensure that we were attended to and didn't just ignore us. Pretty cool that they do that here. I fell in love with their Hokkaido Gurame roll, which has asparagus and real crab meat inside and features salmon and Hokkaido scallops on top with yuzu sauce. Just a party of flavors in your mouth! I like that their wasabi isn't just made of the powder kind either. This roll is reminiscent of a special nigiri creation from an authentic Japanese restaurant's Omakase that we've been to for my birthday recently, so it definitely is a huge favorite of mine. The chirashi don lunch special and premium chirashi don both come with miso soup as starters. The fish selection was superb and you can tell the quality and freshness in each bite. I ordered the iced green tea, the OMG roll, assorted tempura, jalapeno poppers and the lunch special sushi harmony (7 piece omakase and maki roll). Everything was served well and the slices of fresh fish across the sushi were HUGE in comparison to the rice underneath. This can be good or bad depending upon how you like your sushi as the ratio is a bit off. I was initially curious about this restaurant because it offers omakase at a relatively fair price. However, after this visit, I would say that the price matches the experience. The interior design of the restaurant is interesting as there are separate sections (sushi bar, general dining area, bar, outdoors) and each section appears to be themed differently. It's interesting to look at, but it also feels very disconnected from one section to the next. They have shelves with decorations next to the tables but said shelves were extremely dusty. I ordered the sushi omakase ($50) that comes with a side salad and miso soup. The miso soup was good and the salad was fine for what it was. The omakase part came out all at the same time on one large dish. It's good for those who know what they like and want to save the best for last. However, the waiter just placed the entire dish on the table and went on to the next task. We didn't get any information on what each piece was and just had to guess. We turned it into a game to test our sushi knowledge. The fish to rice ratio was slightly off. There was a pretty large amount of rice per piece, but the rice was seasoned well. The fish was on the more firm side, but tasted fresh. The thing that made me give this place even 3 stars was the yuzu cheesecake. It's a more dense cheesecake and the yuzu flavor stood out. Came here with a friend for an after work meal, and it was pretty good! It was my first time here, and I had heard about them on Yelp. We came around 9pm, and was still able to sit and order without feeling like we were rushed. We ordered the mixed tempura, fuego roll sub spicy tuna with crab meat, suki yaki, and takoyaki. Their menu offers a lot of variety, so it feels more like a Japanese restaurant overall, instead of just a sushi spot. The restaurant itself was really spacious, with a separate sushi bar, actual bar, and patio dining. Out of all of the items we tried, my favorite was the fuego roll which came with yellowtail and was spicy. I also really enjoyed the takoyaki, and how it came out super hot. This sushi spot is definitely more on the expensive side I'd say, but for the amount and quality of food you get, it's definitely worth the price. Parking was fairly easy here too. It's shared with a ton of other businesses, but you'll definitely be able to find parking. read more
