I visited due to how close it was to my hotel. I entered and no one was in sight and the music was blasting. I thought nothing of it, perused the menu when a gentleman approached and apologized. He made suggestions and I ordered the combo which comes with 2 proteins and 2 veggies. I ordered chicken and beef ribs with beets and gomen as my sides. It came with injera as well. This is my 2nd time trying Ethiopian cuisine and it was still tasty! I took off a star due to the gomen tasting like canned unseasoned greens. Overall, good food, and great host( male).

Gursha is located a short walk south of the DuPont metro station, it's easy to miss as you trapeze down 20th but you would be foolish to not give them a second glance. I took my family here as their first foray into Ethiopian food, like with many restaurants my eyes proved much bigger than our collective stomaches. And yet despite having more delicious bites than we possibly knew what to do with, I watched as my family attacked the shared plates with a gusto reserved for their favorite meals. We had enough Injera to go around (even though my mom did wish she had asked for a fork) and we all dove in as soon as we had our plates. Excellent flavor across the board, I'll be thinking about the Doro Wot and its spice for a while. The seats were laid back and incredibly comfortable, and we would have stayed for hours easily if we didn't not fill ourselves to the brim. Excellent food and service.

top notch service and finger licking food! Oh! You have to! HIGLY recommend Gursha Ethiopian Cuisine! Discovered on my weekend scavenger hunt for Ethiopian cuisine in the nation's Capitol. To me, a trip to DC without a taste of Injera is like a trip to NYC without Thieboudienne; who does that ! So, I decided to take a trip to DuPont Circle, my trusted enclave of Ethiopian eating. The restaurant decor, wall art, lighting, and serving utensils They offered me extra injera, but I was too full [as you can see from the after pic]...but now I regret not carrying it home with me . Absolutely pleasant staff. Satisfied in all ways. And the food came quick and so impeccably served. I couldn't resist accompaniment with the famed Ethiopian

Fast-ish casual Ethiopian food. Small but pleasant interior with a handful of tables for 4. Order at the counter. I can't say it's THE best Ethiopian food in DC, but it's very good for a casual cafe style place. The prices are reasonable and you get a ton of food. A friend and I shared a 7 vege combo. We were both full and it was $20! (Before tax and tip) the cabbage was particularly good.

Geta Geba Weta Beef Tibs

This did not reflect authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The dish lacked the typical variety of vegetables, sides, and spices, and lacks flavor. The texture of the beef was very hard. The food also seemed pre-made, it was lukewarm, which was disappointing.

Good Ethiopian in the neighbourhood finally! Gursha is a new restaurant that opened up near 20 and M that does takeout and sit down Ethiopian food. No alcohol at this restaurant, but they do have smoothies, soda, coffee, and water. Decor wise, it's minimalistic but with nice touches of Ethiopian paintings. For the food, I've ordered the beef and lamb tibs, kitfo, vegetable combo, and beef sambusa. The beef and lamb tibs were cooked well, but I wish the seasonings of Berbere and awaze were stronger. For the beef sambusa, the beef was nicely cooked but I wished there was a jalapeño dip or relish for it to help cut through the flaky dough. All of these are solid options though, and they are a good foray into Ethiopian cuisine. Their vegetable combo (5 vegetables) is delicious with lentils, chickpea, collard greens, timatim salad, and the cabbage with carrot. This is a great and hearty vegan option and Ethiopian vegetable dishes are truly the best. My favourite is the kitfo. This is raw, seasoned beef traditionally served with ayib cheese (a stronger, tastier, more textured cottage cheese) and sometimes gomen or collard greens. Gursha serves their kitfo with both gomen and cheese, but I normally opt out of the cheese. I like their traditional kitfo, but I appreciate that they were willing to prepare a dullet style kitfo with jalapeños and onions (which may be easier for first time kitfo eaters). The couple who runs this place does the cashiering, table cleaning, and cooking. Since they do everything, the food does take 15-20 minutes to prepare since it's all freshly made. I think they're still working out all the kinks and hopefully they are able to pick up their cooking speed for the lunch rush since there are a lot of businesses nearby. But otherwise, I really enjoy this new spot for Ethiopian.

This place has good reviews for a reason. Stumbled upon this Ethiopian place and was so curios to try for the first time. I honestly done exactly remembered what i ordered but i do have pictures of what i ate and i had a lemonade with salt (no sugar) The food was out of this world, feels like a warm hug, home cooked! Got a crepe with lentil, mushroom side and a carrot side. The drink was super fresh and refreshing, it had fresh mint. I am glad my first Ethiopian try was a hit and would highly recommend this place. Also the service was 5/5. Super!

We ordered a combo. It was HUGE. The lamb was superb, and the Chicken was also tasty, but the beef failed compared to the lamb. The Veges were also delicious. The collard greens had a strong meat flavor. The service was excellent. The ambiance was quiet, and the place was clean. The combo plate is a bit much for two. Order individual smaller combos. We had 1/3 of the plate left for Togo. And the bread lacks the sour flavor.

Was craving Ethiopian food but was eating solo, and most Ethiopian places only offer variety platters that serve 2+ people. I got the combo special that offers two veggies and two meats along with plenty of injera, the perfect option for one person who wants a bit of many things! The service was quick and kind and the restaurant has plenty of seating. Will be back in the future if I'm dining solo again.

A new Ethiopian place that is geared toward casual eat in and takeout. The ghee rice is excellent and everything else is as expected.

very aesthetic dining! I got some studying done and had the lunch special with unlimited injera, it was very good and well proportioned, the service was also amazing I loved the workers they were very sweet, I plan to be back soon!

A modern take on Ethiopian! My friend got the veggie platter and I got the lamb bowl. Everything was tasty and super fresh. The waitress was incredible and even snapped a few photos of us during our lunch per our request. The inside is modern, bright, and decorated with photos of Ethiopian landmarks and images. Prices are pretty decent for what you are getting and I will definitely return!

I really wanted to get a before pic but my stomach was growling and the food smelled amazing

In our opinion the portions were very small. Which made the food very expensive. We didn't feel it was a good value because of that.

The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, making it a great spot for dinner. We decided to sample a variety of dishes, and everything was deliciously presented. Drinks: Cherry smoke show and Emperor's old-fashioned. Food: We ordered the bang, bang, broccoli, thousand layer crispy potatoes, beef, and broccoli, spicy tuna roll. Sweet ending: The sticky toffee pudding Moriah, our server was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. Definitely a good time.

This time was a little different. I had the red dragon roll and I couldn't quite tell it's vegan and not actual dragon roll of some sort. And then I also tried the thousand layer potatoes, which was nice, but I don't know if I liked it that much. And I got the Unagi eggplant which was really really good. I also really like eggplant at baseline. Other people got the sprig and run drink (it's under free spirits and it's a mocktail) and they loved it. Two of my friends got the udon and mushroom - they loved it (clean bowls). So I enjoyed it but only for special occasions. It's not very affordable to come to Planta regularly you see (or maybe I just need to have a better paying gig hahah) ... a roll and a nigiri plate came out to be over $30 ... which is somewhat typical in the expensive city of DC. In the end, we all concluded Planta Bethesda has more options whereas this one is more Asian fusion type of food (which I love). But I'm still dreaming of that miso salmon tofu from Planta Bethesda (now a year later? Also higher end prices for me and can't afford to go too often). They do only have two bathroom individual stalls and for some reason it took a while for my friends to use the restroom (she said one person was trying on outfits in there?!) and it can get a little messy in there with the trash bin, but it probably isn't consistently so...

LOVE THIS PLACE & ERRRYTHANG ABOUT IT!!…read more When it comes to fast, fresh pizza that can be made unique by you or ordered from a list of pre-crafted pies...&Pizza got you covered! I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I come here. I mean any and every topping you can imagine is available for you to create a "Picasso of a Pizza!" If I could eat &Pizza every day...I would! I mean he#! (heck..lol) why not, their pizzas meet the standards of the USDA food pyramid. I mean despite the calories, I can get all my nutritional needs all met in one place and in one meal: meats, veggies, dairy, fruits, and grains! WHAT!? Holla, if you feel me! LOL. THE VIBE Modern space, friendly helpful staff, and great prices. You walk in and will be immediately greeted. Next, you choose your crust, sauce, veggies, meats and cheese. You can make your own pizza as healthy or extremely indulgent as you'd like. And, I am not kidding....this place keeps it real!! They are very generous on the toppings too. Once satisfied with your choice of toppings, in goes your pizza into a giant commercial-sized 'Easy Bake' Oven for a brief few minutes. Before you know, it is done and ready to be served.! THE FOOD For the extreme carnivore as myself, my " go-to" is: THE MAVERICK --Caution...for MEAT-LOVERS ONLY!!! Classic tomato, mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, pesto, parmesan....PLUS, I customized it with everything but the kitchen sink....Pepperoni * Spinach * Bacon * Meatballs * Cherry Peppers * Green Peppers * Spinach * Onion * Roma Tomato * Fresh Mozzarella Balls * Tomato Sauce * Rosemary * Chili Oil!! Imagine all that baked goodness in one bite! And, if that was not enough, I like to finish it off with the pesto, basil and garlic drizzle! Talk about heaven and Buddha rubbing goodness!! TO SUM IT UP You can't go wrong coming here. I highly recommend! No matter what you order at &Pizza, if you're trying to stick to a healthy diet, you'll need to adhere to one important rule: "......Don't eat the whole damn thing"...but that's impossible when coming here!!

This place really needs to give their employees customer service training, or hire some new staff…read more I was staying at the adjoining hotel and went in through the double doors leading to the checkout counter. Like every establishment on this planet, you order at the checkout counter unless obviously stated otherwise, which it wasn't. I stood there for a minute looking at the menu before the young man behind the counter gave me a blank look and turned to look at one of this employees. That female employee then told me to go to the opposite side of the shop to order from the ladies working hard behind the glass screen making the pizza. The order sign? Miniscule. Even if you come through the front entrance you would probably miss it. Not only that, the female employee said it like it was OBVIOUS. It's not over yet, after I ordered, I walked over to the pick up spot to wait, thinking that you pay once the pizza is finished. Nope, once again, that same female employee looked at me and said "You done? Then NOW you go pay" dramatically pointing at the checkout counter. Again, like it was obvious, and I'm the idiot for not knowing how things work in their shop. The other employees just stared at me all amused. The cherry on top was when I was receiving the pizza, I ordered the American Honey, which is suppose to come with hot honey, hence the name?? I asked for it at the finishing station where you can ask for toppings like cheese and such, only because I can see that it did not have any on it. I told the first guy, I saw him nod his head, then stand completely still and not do a single thing. So then I asked for parmesan and he finally did something. The whole time he did not say one word to me, and looked like he was dragged here by his mama to work. So in the end, I got a mediocre pepperoni flatbread with nothing special but with a nice BIG side of attitude and horrible customer service. It felt like being in a pretend pizza shop ran by a bunch of teenagers for mandatory volunteer hours. Like, I've been treated better at shady gas station counters. I highly do not recommend coming here and wasting your time and money.

The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.
