Great ramen at this place in Bolingbrook! Get a milk tea and crab rangoon, too!
    Eric S.

AS GOOD AS GOLD The magical broth at this ramen spot in Bolingbrook is 24K of richness. Gung Ho operates on the northwest corner of Boughton & Weber Rd, next to ALDI and a nail salon. Over the years, we've only had carryout/delivery so I can't comment on the dine-in experience....though I have seen a shelf with various card games on it I'd love to take advantage of. Staff are friendly and orders have always been ready on time. My wife usually gets the Shoyu ramen ($15 w/sliced seaweed, garlic oil, spinach) and I always get the miso ramen ($15), a traditional broth with choice of protein, soft boiled egg, green onion, corn, and bamboo shoots. I devoured everything except the bamboo, 'cause I'm not a panda. The pork chashu (braised pork belly) is some of the BEST I've ever had, marvelously fatty with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. If you're feeling extra hungry (or are really into anime), you can order the Goku ramen bowl ($22) which includes chashu, shrimp, grilled chicken and fried chicken. Maybe eating it makes you go Super Saiyan?? Their ramen has 4 options for spiciness: a 'little' spice, spicy, spicy ++, or a 'spice bomb' on the side. I've ordered normal spicy and it's been perfect every time; I'm worried anything hotter would work against the delicious flavor profile of the broth, which I do not want to mess with. Gyoza (6 for $8) are tasty, especially when dipped in the garlic ginger-soy sauce. Crab Rangoon (6 for $7.50) come with a sweet peach sauce, another great choice for appetizer. If you're not feeling ramen, Gung Ho also has poke bowls ($13), Mongolian stir fry, and a teriyaki bento box ($14). My wife loves their coconut milk tea ($6), and she insists on getting one every visit. I've tried the banana milk tea and the Thai iced tea, both were tasty. You can add tapioca pearls, popping boba, or fruit jelly (lychee, mango, strawberry) at no extra charge. They also have an "avocado milk crush", whatever the heck that is. * TL;DR * Tanaka Ramen in eastern Bolingbrook was our go-to for several years, but I think Gung Ho edges them out in terms of quality. The miso ramen is an umami explosion and the milk teas are great. Prices are fair with an interior that encourages hanging out (sketch pads and board games provided). Gung Ho offers good vibes and some of the best ramen in the area, I highly recommend them!

The ramen was great. Appetizer selections were good. There was not much "service" as I had to bus my own table. Plenty of parking outside.

We just got back from Japan over the weekend and due to our crazy itinerary, we were unable to make it to a really good ramen shop--Gung Ho genuinely helped make up for that. I have had ramen in many regions and this is definitely my favorite in the western suburbs so far. The noodles are perfect, the broth is flavorful and delightful, the chashu is the perfect doneness and thickness and the miso egg done right. I wasn't crazy about the amount or flavor of the bamboo, but the rest of it more than made up for it. The atmosphere is great, good music and service and I loved the sketchbooks and colored pencils on the tables. Love this place! Thank you for your hard work!

We ordered tonkotsu ramen and the kimchi and fried chicken ramen . The char siu was pretty good. The ramen and the broth were ok. It wasn't super good or bad. I like their peach sauce for their crab rangoon. We didn't get any drinks so don't know if their drinks are good. This place would be a nice hangout place with friends. They have board games and sketchbook to draw.

The vibe and interior design is really cute and friendly. The service was good with kind workers. I was actually disappointed about the food. I ordered kimchi fries without cilantro. In my opinion, the sauce in the kimchi fries is delicious but the shredded cheese is unnecessary especially when it's not even melted; the fine chopped jalapeños is also not necessary to have on there. I also ordered the green tea lychee tea with tapioca. The tea in general was good and not too sweet but the lychee taste was very subtle. The tapioca had no flavoring but I do like the size of their tapioca. I think this spot is more worth the drinks than the food in my opinion but I do want to give another try on their food.

Gung Ho is pretty new. You order your food, then find a place to sit down. Once it's ready you pick it up from your counter. The complimentary water cups are nice, more sturdy than the cheap ones you find at some places. Service was excellent, they don't mind helping you. You can play some board games while waiting as well as draw on some paper. Crab rangoon was tasty. It came with a peach tasting sweet and sour sauce. The tonkotsu ramen with the cha siu was disappointing. Broth lacked flavor, tasted bland. Cha siu meat was decent, moist and tasty. Kimchi and fried chicken ramen is something I would not order again. Flavors didn't really blend like how I imagined it to be. I would keep them separate. The fried chicken was okay, reminded me of the same type of chicken used for sweet and sour chicken, you find at Americanized Chinese restaurants. Kimchi was fine.

    Booths with outlets and sketchbook

It's Anime themed and even the buzzers has anime on them. Booths have outlets to charge your phone or other devices. Has a sketchbook for you to draw or doodle. Also, there is a small cart full of table games. There is complimentary water dispenser. Food is actually pretty good. Kimchi Fries were the best. Wasn't too spicy and all the sauces and toppings were fresh and flavorful. The Tonkotsu Ramen were delicious too, though the pork chasu 1 piece was overcooked and the 2nd piece was better. The chicken kaarage was dry and overcooked, so definitely needed the sauce to dip it in. Also, got the taro milktea and it was very creamy and rich. Overall, I would definitely come back to try the other dishes.

August 1st, 2023 grand opening. The restaurant is clean and modern. The staff here are extremely friendly. I ordered the karage, kimchi fries, tonkotsu ramen and two milk tea drinks to go while being in the area. I personally enjoyed the tonkotsu ramen with beef most as it was most authentic compared to the other items ordered. I recommend you carve out some time to dine in for a better experience!

    Gyoza?

My wife and I went on there soft opening, and I have to say the experience with the meal wasn't as pleasant as people say it is. The spicy miso ramen wasn't that great as it wasn't even spicy. The gyoza, unfortunately, fell short of expectations, resembling nothing more than ordinary pot stickers. The biggest disappointment came with the chicken karaage, which failed to capture the authentic essence of the beloved dish. The restaurant lacked high chairs, making it somewhat inconvenient for my family as my son is a little over 1 year old.

Food was ok. The sesame chicken was extremely sweet and the crab rangoon was very mediocre. I loved the fruit tea and would definitely recommend the drinks here. The service was fast and the staff members were friendly & helpful. I really liked the look of this restaurant and loved that they had games and sketch books at every-table.

Chicken Karaage, Shoyu Ramen Noodles (spicy and non spicy)
    Ellie K.

Fast casual restaurant with cute and clean interior. Loud K pop/J pop playing the whole time.. Average food. Chicken karaage was different from what I was used to. It was more like American popcorn chicken. Served on a bed of salad.. Why? Lol They didn't even go well together and just made both the chicken and salad lose its crispiness. Bland, soggy chicken and sad wilted salad. No seasoning, no dressing. Ramen was not bad, rich broth and chashu was decent. Brown sugar milk tea- pricy, not $7 quality.

Kimchi fries were tasty. Chicken karaage was ok. I was a little disappointed that the bibimbap wasn't in a stone bowl because I usually enjoy the the crispy rice on the bottom. Spicy tonkatsu ramen had good flavor and the pork buns were soooo good!! Portions were pretty big too. Unfortunately the ac was not working properly, so it was quite warm in the restaurant. My husband and I will be back again to try other dishes, when the weather gets cooler.

We had a reservation for five people, but one family member was unable to attend due to a last-minute conflict, so we arrived with four. When we checked in, we informed the host of the change. Rather than simply adjusting the reservation, the manager immediately began lecturing us about not calling ahead and told us that if we had notified them earlier, our reservation would have been canceled and we would have been placed on the walk-in waitlist. What made this especially confusing was that we were still honoring our reservation and dining with four guests. We were not canceling, arriving late, or significantly reducing our party size. The change occurred at the last minute, and while we would have called had we known earlier, arriving with four instead of five did not seem like a situation that warranted the response we received. We were then told we would have to wait and were placed on a waitlist despite several open tables, including an empty table already set for four guests. A few minutes later, another table was prepared and we were seated directly next to that same four-person table, which remained empty. Unfortunately, the interaction did not end there. After we were seated, our server informed us that she had been instructed to tell us that making a reservation for five and arriving with four would not be tolerated in the future. At that point, I asked who the manager or owner was and was directed to the same individual who had addressed us when we arrived. To the server's credit, she apologized and explained that she was simply relaying the message she had been told to deliver. By then, however, it was clear that the manager felt it necessary not only to reprimand us personally but also to have the message repeated through our server after we had already been seated. What could have been a simple conversation about reservation expectations instead felt unnecessarily confrontational and embarrassing. To be clear, this review is not about a restaurant's right to establish reservation policies. It is about how those policies are communicated. We never expected special treatment--only courtesy, professionalism, and respect. After four years of dining here and bringing family and friends, we were surprised to be treated this way over a one-person difference in our party size. We chose to leave before ordering and, unfortunately, will not be returning. What makes the experience even harder to understand is that there were multiple open tables visible in the restaurant at the time, including the empty four-person table next to us and several other unoccupied tables. Given the available seating and the fact that we were still dining with four guests, the manager's response felt unnecessarily rigid and entirely out of proportion to the situation
