    Ham Scallion Pancake Wrap
    Caroline N.

On this day, I wanted something new but at the same time comfort food. I heard about their LIC location, but didn't received there is a location in Midtown (Hue House). This is perfect that I didn't need to take the train into Queens. I found the place and couldn't decided on what to order...sweet potato fries with plum seasoning, popcorn chicken, radish cakes, chicken cutlet or pork chop. Finally decided on Beef Noodle Soup was a bit pricey but you are in Midtown Manhattan and since I haven't had it in a while and it was a little salty for me but overall it hit the spot. The employees were nice and answered my questions about froyo and the drink machine. It took a while to prepare but it gave me time to check out the drink machine which I want to try next time. They also mentioned that the breakfast is available. Guess what? The next morning, I ordered ham scallion pancake wrap. This time the store wasn't open but they were selling the items in front of their store. It was quick and easy. Go check them out.

The food was pretty good, and they give you a very substantial amount of food--definitely a generous portion. The downside was the huge wait. I placed my order and came back about 30 minutes later, but still had to wait a bit longer. The lady working there was very nice, polite, and patient, especially considering she had to deal with one particularly difficult customer. She handled the situation very professionally and never lost her composure. The food tasted very good, but it was a little different from what I expected. The rice was on the moist side, possibly because they were having trouble keeping up with the volume of orders. Overall, very tasty, generous portions, and good service--but be prepared to wait!

Take out - Chicken & Lu Rou Rice Bento
    Sarah A.

Ordered delivery for lunch. It was delivered on time and the packaging was nice and secure. It came in those insulated bags that a lot of restaurants are using now. I ordered the Chicken & Lu Rou Rice Bento. It came with a side of tea egg, glass vermicelli noodles, and boiled veggies (I think Napa cabbage?). The sides were okay and kinda bland. I thought the tea egg could have been marinated longer, it didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. The Lu Rou faan was flavorful, but I feel like they make it differently than traditional Lu Rou faan although I'm no expert. When I look at it, it looks like they add pork floss to it which I'm not mad about, I love pork floss. Just an interesting take on Lu Rou faan.

Update for their breakfast. Ordering online is easy but unnecessary. Both the food and drinks are premade and ready to grab and go from the cart setup outside, just like Los Tacos nearby. Wraps are as advertised. Scallion pancake, egg, a slice of lettuce, sauce and your choice of fried chicken or ham. I went with the chicken. It's a decent offering, though a bit heavy. I wanted a punchier sauce to offset the greasiness of the scallion pancake. Went with a black tea that's slightly sweet but iced soy milk is also available. Doesn't really stand out. An acceptable breakfast, especially as an alternative to their much more popular competitor at Los Tacos, a stone's throw away. I'll leave the overall rating at 4 stars but that's for the main restaurant offerings across lunch and dinner. Breakfast alone is at 3.

Lu Rou Fan (Braised Pork Over Rice) Bento

This seemingly innocuous looking place offers delicious Taiwanese bentos. I always get the lu rou fan and it never disappoints! Space is small but you can get takeout. Service is fast. Fried chicken is delicious and I will keep coming back.

Good takeout spot for Taiwanese. The rice dish was excellent with chicken. Milk tea is premaid and not adjustable. It's got a lot of sugar and delicious, but unfortunately premade. Love the Mala fries. Fried chicken was also excellent. Satisfied with the takeout and will try dine in next time.

I ordered Gulp through DoorDash today, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed with the food. I ordered the pork chop bento box. It looked similar to a Taiwanese-style bento, which got me excited, but unfortunately the pork chop was dry. The vermicelli on the side was also sweeter than I expected, and the overall meal just didn't really work for me. Maybe the experience is better when dining in, but based on this takeout order, I didn't really enjoy the food. One thing I will give them credit for is the packaging--everything was packed neatly which I appreciated.

Honestly my new go to spot for froyo! I love the Asian inspired flavors they have and toppings. It is small and they have no seating due to it being connected to a restaurant (located by the cashier in the front). Would love to see this place open its own independent location. The ube drizzle and peanut & cilantro combo was A1.

Gulp is in the Hue House and without knowing any better I thought the whole building just operated under the hue house. Lol. I brought a taiwanese friend there as an authority and we ordered a few things between us. We sat at the counter so our bartender friend gave us some enthusiastic recommendations (I like when they describe dishes as 'i can eat that all day' or equivalent). Midtown being midtown and midtown prices aside, the good was pretty good and Taiwanese friend endorsed, and the service was friendly and helpful. I'll be back for a date night or something.

I first heard of Gulp, a Taiwanese restaurant from social media and friends. I was looking forward to finally being able to try it out. Especially since it is so close to the office or where I work and it's right by Grand Centrall Terminal. Gulp is located inside Hue House, which is a four story building, and the restaurant itself is on the first floor. As soon as I walked inside, I was greeted by the staff. The place was very busy and bustling with people. A lot of foot traffic. The staff were very friendly and happy to walk me through the menu and answer all of my questions. Which made my experience even better. I ordered the Chicken & Lu Ruo Rice Bento Box, which I was told is a favorite and one of their recommended dishes. I really enjoyed it and I thought it was very flavorful. While I liked my meal, I'm definitely curious to come back and try their other items off the menu. Overall, a good meal and great lunch spot.

Wow! Thank goodness for more Taiwanese places in midtown. This place has everything I want, from delicious drink options to variety of Taiwanese classics. I tried their spicy beef dry noodle bowl! Lots of noodles, delicious veggie and very soft beef. Yum! Their milk tea is refreshing and not too sweet. They also have a rewards program that gets you coming back for more. Will def come back to try other goods.

Ok, let me start with the pros: -Cute train-themed ambience and decor with posters of Taiwanese pop artists. -At least the staff tried. Sigh...the bad...my friend and I came here for lunch. We're both Taiwanese (she was raised there before immigrating, and I was born here but have dual citizenship), so we have high standards when it comes to Taiwanese food. My friend is much more brutal with her honesty, and I love her for that. She got a vegan chicken Sanbeiji...it was so terrible and unpalatable, she sent it back and had it swapped for beef noodle soup. Noodle and beef and popcorn chicken were decent, like bare minimum of good. Nothing memorable. The broth was a bit too sweet. As we were eating, the staff was VERY LOUDLY venting right by our table about all the things going wrong with orders and technical difficulties. When it came to payment, I did tap. Usually waiters hold the card reader machine in front of me and look away while I pay and tip. Our server was gripping the machine tightly, was positioning it in a way where she would aggressively glare at what I was inputting, and I had to be assertive because the tip default options were 20%, 22% and 24%. This is ridiculous price gouging for tips. I had to give them a custom tip at a more standard rate. After I tipped, while my friend and I each went to the restroom, the waitress confronted each of us individually, asking how the service and food was because, according to her, "We usually get tipped way more," and went on to gripe about how her level of service she gave us, including swapping out my friend's meal, is not something they're supposed to do. Um... My friend venmoed me her half of the meal with the note "Shitty Taiwanese Food" lol

The lu rou fan really tasty, probably my favorite thing there. Actually, I think this is my favorite. I've had in New York City to date which is crazy. The next best I had was in Taiwan, so this is really stand out to me. The pork was so juicy and tender and so buttery on the rice. They also have really good drinks and amazing service. I would definitely come back. It has such an intimate date-like vibe and would recommend!

This location is accessible via A train at 42nd Street Port Authority. Upon arriving there was a woman in front of me arguing with the staff persistently haggling the price to be lowered, but to no avail. Woman, no means no! There are other bubble tea businesses within the locale that may appease your needs, but not this particular Gong Cha whom apologized for the inconvenience of the inability to lower the price on the product ordered. As I waited patiently, I took photos of this business' environment. The staff stated the cash register is not working and currently unable to accept either credit or debit cards, but cash only payments. Ergo, I was unable to obtain a sales receipt nor a drink label printed. I wonder if the staff reboot the register or check their internet connection to be offline as the cause of non-functioning O/O/O. [1] Customer service is average. Well... if the staff can lower the price for one customer why not lower it for ALL customers? Surely, why not make my drink order as inclusion for lowering the price, please? Hell no, of course not! The conclusion was ironclad. In the real world, this cannot happen. As I stood on line waiting for this woman to let go and walk away from her argument I had shrunk to my own gnawing thoughts. I took photos of the atmospheric environment. There is a cute signage: "Bubble tea where refreshment meets creativity." The pink metal water bottle is very adorably cute which is something that I would certainly purchase. At 30% sugar level request, it was slightly higher in sugar content. Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg would shake his head at me in disbelief with disapproval and disappointment for consuming this excessively sugary drink. The peach green tea was not the cause of the sweetness but a man-made sugar embed measurement error. Nevertheless, this Gong Cha satisfied my bubble tea fix as it is now my addiction - in addition to my other addiction, writing. [1] O/O/O = Out Of Order

Ahh, grass jelly loeng4 fan2 涼粉 is my childhood favorite dessert and summons nostalgia! It is my mission to search for bubble tea businesses that offers grass jelly as a topping for my primary reason to patronize. It was abundant which filled one quarter of my medium sized drink. The grass jelly topping is New York City standard priced at $0.50 at least there is sustainability and a sense of normalcy. I requested regular ice, but the entire ice dispensed disappointedly melted and the drink became room temperate. Heat wave medium $6.00 Passionfruit green tea with grass jelly, 50%, light sugar. The sound speakers is boisterously loud blasting music directly at my face by the ordering counter. The cashier associate was 90% inaudible of her customer service questions due to the boisterously loud blasting music as I had to fight loud vs. loud by blurting loudly several times: "WHAT?" Why would a business intentionally place sound speakers in front of a ordering counter station where customers must communicate their food/drink orders? How can customers place their drinks orders with clear specific description/instructions only for the cashier associate to inadvertently obfuscate by misinformation because the message conveyed was utterly misinterpreted? Communication is vital for ordering and order fulfillment accuracy in the food service industry! The cardboard paper straws available are environmentally sustainable friendly for biodegradable and compostable. However, these cardboard straws taste AWFULl!! The drink selection is very limited menu compared with other bubble tea competitors. Disappointedly there is no Jasmine green tea on the menu. There are some food items.
