Guisados has been on my list for forever, so I was so excited to stop by when I happened to be nearby on a random afternoon. This location has plenty of parking spots in its own little lot, so it was easy to grab one. There's also plenty of free 1 hour street parking nearby. I ordered the Jamaica agua Fresca and the taco sampler so I could try (almost) all the different tacos. The Jamaica is delicious! Super refreshing on a hot and sweaty day. A little bit sweet for me but I'm positive that's exactly how Jamaica is supposed to be . The taco sampler was yummy! None of the tacos particularly stood out to me, but what did was the tortillas!! Sooo good - super soft and yet chewy. The most amazing part was that even though the tacos were super saucy (and they're supposed to be bc they're guisado style), the tortillas didn't get soggy. The ambiance is nice - casual and friendly with upbeat music playing through the speakers. Not really a place to come for Mexican food. It's a great place for Mexican tacos though!! That's what they do. Fatties like me will be sad to learn they do not have beans, rice, chips, a salsa bar, pretty much things conveyed by the name Mexican food. But for tacos, qué sabrosa. Homemade corn tortillas. They serve fresh yellow corn tortillas for the tacos, which are great, but they could use just a little more salt or something to really make them pop. I love their tacos overall, but every location is a little different. Personally, I like the Burbank location the best. Service is great at both locations. Went here on 8/30 for my bday lunch, my first time, and i loved it! The tacos were delicious, i had the Frijoles con queso, yum, the Tinga de Pollo also yum, and the Bistek en salsa Roja which was super yummy but the yummiest thing I had was the Ceviche tostada! It was a very hot day so the fresh ceviche hit the spot and I washed it down with a cold modelo. The place was nice and clean and the service was great. My husband and I both got Chicken Tamale with chile verde inside, which we have previously had and always loved. Today the masa (although tasty) far exceeded the meat and sauce ... it was almost all masa!! now I know times are tough and they may have to cut back a bit but this is ridiculous!! Please... Thought I'd try today out with some breakfast tacos. Glad I did. I always joke that Sacramento food pales in comparison to So. Cal, but so far this trip, no meal had "wowed" me as of yet. Thank Cthulhu I came here. The cashier was very friendly and explained what was on each taco...in a friendly, non-cobdescening manner. Excellent customer service. I trued the potato breakfast taco, and the chicken mole taco. The potatoes were cooked perfectly for this type of taco, and the eggs as well (not fake, not dry). As good as it was, the mole was even better...and I'm glad I saved it for last. Perfect. Guisado's restored my faith in this culinary vacation. You don't want to date me. Trust me, i've got two strikes against me already: I'm vegetarian and gluten-free. That means if you want to take me out to a nice meal, you're going to have to put in some work and research to find a place that I can eat at AND enjoy. But imma do you a solid and let you in on a little secret: Guisados. Not only does it have a menu I can stuff my face on, but they're freaking delicious as well! For $11.75 I can get a Sampler Platter of tiny tacos (2-3 bites) that are both vegetarian and gluten free. The corn tortillas are handmade, naturally GF and absolutely drool worthy. Makes me think of my moms tortillas hechas a mano that she would slather in butter and roll up for me right off the stove. The taco options include: 8 vegetarian 3 vegan 19 GF 7 vegetarian + GF Other vegetarian options include burritos and tamales (for which they use shortening, not lard). They also have a breakfast menu with 2 vegetarian/GF tacos and 2 vegetarian burritos. Prices stay between $4.25 - $4.95 per full sized taco and I HIGHLY recommend getting the quesadilla. Tamales are $4.75 and burritos are $7.50. Everything is portioned the way you *should* be eating, not the giant portions you *want* to eat. Parking is easy to get to and plentiful. My only complaint is that their delicious agua frescas and horchatas are pricey. But i'm worth it! And so are you :) One more tip: The Huntington Library and Gardens are just down the street and are a great place to work up an appetite. read more

Ordered the 6-piece Taco Sampler, which included an assortment of your choice of meats. Came to the Pasadena location after a day of clinicals with my instructor and student nurses. After trying this, I have to confess that it felt like an underwhelming experience. $12.60 for 6 tacos, only for the tacos to barely have any meat on them, as well as skimpy ingredients. How are there only 2 onions on my tacos? It makes no sense! No lime or cilantro to complement the dish, just spicy sauce. It's really disappointing. I wish they would've given me more to complement the meat, such as pico de gallo or more onions. It doesn't make it worth going here. I'd rather go to McDonald's than pay an absurd price for under-average tacos. There are better taco places out there, and unfortunately, Guisado's doesn't stand out as one of them to me. read more

I've had my eye on Guisados for months. Every time our run club passes by I make a mental note to stop by. Located on a busy corner of Arroyo and Del Mar in Pasadena. Had a craving for breakfast tacos and finally remembered that Guisados was on my list. No way I could've passed this opportunity up, especially since we were already in the area. Plenty of parking available in their lot. There's a closed down retail space next door that has tons of parking as well if the first lot is ever full. Besides the food, one thing that stood out right away is that the entire staff were all smiles and extremely helpful. Guisados is doing something right with their staff for sure. Wish we could have dined in but we were in a hurry. We ordered a full assortment of breakfast tacos and went home to eat with the family. I appreciated the order coming in a tin tray. Each taco was nestled ever so neatly beside each other. There was no spillage or mixing between the flavors. I was quite impressed. Great late-night taco stop with lots of options. Too many to list here, but suffice to say, you will find something you'll like here. Do pay attention to their spice-level question as their spice level is accurate. When in doubt, get medium or mild. The staff is very patient, explaining what each filling contains. This was a rough visit - I remember Guisados being a cool spot with decent food but this location was a major letdown. The cashier seemed annoyed by us being there and when we asked questions about the items, he answered passive aggressively. It was very weird. I felt rushed to order because he seemed impatient. Once we sat down we wanted something to munch on so I asked if they had chips and salsa. He said we could buy tostadas and have a small side of salsa. I said that worked. I kid you not... $8 later I had 4 small tostadas that tasted old and a tiny side of salsa. The food was okay. Not the Guisados I remember but it did the job. We all didn't care for the chicharron (didn't have much of a texture so it was mostly a bean flavor) but all the others are top notch! I finally tried Guisados for the first time and did not like it. I ordered the sampler mini tacos and each tacos were very tiny like 2 bite size. It was a rip off costing $11.75 for 6 of these tiny tacos. The meat choices are not your traditional street tacos meat so you won't find carne asada, pastor or lengua here. Instead their meats are stewed, which didn't go well with the tortillas. The tortillas are also homemade, but tasted like ordinary corn tortillas to me. To drink, I ordered the melon drink which was actually good and refreshing. Customer service was okay. The cashier was not friendly, but not rude either. She could have been more helpful with explaining the menu after I told her it was my first time there. I wouldn't return here. It is too pricey for the amount of food you are getting and I prefer the traditional street tacos. read more

Flavorlicious, ! Just visiting Pasadena I popped into Guisados for a breakfast burrito on the way to check out the pickleball scene at Allendale Park. I had the chorizo burrito that came with a side of salsa that hit the spot. The portion size was just right if you're watching your calories.... Which made me wish I had ordered two because it was so delicious but glad I just had one after the fact. Make sure to get one of each salsa: spicy Mango, red salsa, and a green salsa with avocado. The Tortilla was hand made and delicious. Do not sleep on that Pescado Ceviche, it was so delicious and tasty. My favorite taco is the Cochinita Pibil like so many reviewers recommended. If they rework the Steak Picado and made it grilled seared steak, it would be absolute perfection. The restaurant was clean and huge. I am impressed that they are open until midnight. This is my third Guisados visit (after Boyle Heights and DTLA) and every time it's amazing. It really does put most other taco shops to shame, though I love many of them so much. The flavors are just so bold and slow-cooked and their homemade corn tortillas are fantastic. The one is a bit more expansive, with outdoor seating as well. My husband and I are visiting from Las Vegas and had such a great experience at Guisados. Everything we ordered was delicious and full of flavor. The cochinita pibil, chicharrón, and pescado tacos were standouts, and the strawberry horchata was the perfect finish. On top of the amazing food, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Guisado's in Pasadena currently resides in an architecturallly unique building formerly occupied by Dona Rosa (a premier Mexican dining spot). It was a shame to lose that venerable restaurant, but at least it's now occupied by a worthy replacement. They showcase a review of Guisado's tacos (on the wall above the kiosk) by the late great Pulitzer Prize winning food critic Jonathan Gold. "In Tacos we Trust" is a witty slogan above the entry/exit door. I was here on a Saturday morning and not too hungry so I ordered light, Breakfast tacos Mexicana, and Pan Dulce. The freshly made corn tortilla, fluffy, perfectly prepared eggs with tomato, cheese, and light chile was outstanding!! The Pan Dulce were excellent, light, fresh, crumbly, morsels of goodness. The man who took our order brought our 6 plates of tacos to our table, and then he dropped a plate right in front of us. Normally we wouldn't mind, mistakes happen. But one of the tacos landed on my friend's jeans (not just like a little bit but the entire left side of the jeans from the knee down). To make matters worse, my friend was on his way to LAX to take a long flight back home. The man who dropped the tacos seemed more concerned about the mess on the floor than the mess he made on my friend's jeans. Not only did it take him a minute to apologize but I did not think it was a good apology. The worst part was that there was no offer for a compensation. I had an experience once where a server accidentally spilled soup on my friend at Gyu-kaku and his meal was fully compensated, along with a sincere apology. It's a counter serve, so it's easy to pop up and order more if you want more. The tacos were great- super flavourful and developed so you can try a range of different types of taco. One thing I would recommend is if there could be some description of what is in the tacos on the menu behind the bar. Came here after a hike on a weekend on the tail end of the lunch rush (~1 pm). Parking was easy as they have a lot, which is not the case at all their locations. For food, I got the sampler, pollo tamale, and melon fresca. Not much to comment on for each other than delicious as always-- this location definitely holds to the Guisados standards. The staff was also very friendly, giving my friend recommendations for deciding what to select for their sampler. There's both indoor and outdoor seating-- we opted to sit on the patio. I've only been to Guisados in Burbank so wanted to check out the Pasadena location since it's closer to me now. I ordered a taco sampler. It comes with 6 mini tacos that I can choose what I want or from the preset menu. I opted for steak picado, mole poblano, chicharron, cochinita pibil, chorizo and hongos con cilantro. Every single taco was very tasty. My favorite was cochinita pibil. You can ask for spice level for it as well. However, the mushroom one had rock or sand in it. It was crunchy and sandy when I took a bite. Maybe just need to clean the mushroom better. But it was a disappointment for me. They also provide several beers in bottle. I tried a Mexican beer that I've not had before, Victoria. It's slightly malty and not overly bitter. It went really well with the tacos. The service was friendly. There is parking lot for the restaurant which is nice in Pasadena. read more

I'm baaack! I've been to the Sunset location but gave the Pasadena location a try. Just as good as I remember! This time I brought my parents along and they were in disbelief in how delicious it was. I ordered: - Mole Poblano: Ugh, this HAS to be my favorite. I ordered two and took my time eating them because I wanted to relish in the meal. Perfect balance between sweet and savory. - Camarones: I decided to give the camarones a try and it was enjoyable. The taco isn't stuffed with shrimp which I don't mind, but some may like more than what it provided. It was great. Perfect amount of sauce. - Melon Agua Fresca: Yum!! I always stick to water so it was pretty sweet to me but it was delicious nonetheless. I'd order again. The corn tortillas are the best. Staff was nice and attentive.
