Guaca Maya has continued to be a favorite family place for our family. We fell in love with the authentic flavors and style years ago but it continues to impress! I had the ribeye stake tonight and the seasonings were fantastic the cut was tender and I loved the cheese enchilada as usual... because I just LOVE their enchilada sauce in general. My husband has the fried tilapia that was seasoned beautifully with big flaky chunks of meat made perfectly. The kids had massive burritos and yummy fajitas. Good time. Live music!! Was great! I just want to start with I have no complaints about the food. It was very tasty and authentic. The bread and tortillas were fresh, warm and excellent. My husband and I invited our daughter and family to dine with us on this beautiful Sunday. We had 5 adults and two children, 10 and 12 years of age. We were seated right in front of the buffet where the traffic was none stop. When asked if we could be seated a little away from the buffet, the hostess stated there were zones. So we stayed where we were seated and felt very uncomfortable. Our waitress just kind of disappeared after bringing our drinks to the table. My son in law never received the beer he order and we never had any refills on our drinks. The used plates were stacking on the table and our waitress was still no where to be found. We really felt like we were not customers instead of more like intruders. I have eaten all over the world and never have I been treated like we were. To top things off when we received the receipt, it had an extra charge of $24.84 for having a party of 6 or more. I would not mind the charge if it was explained to us before hand and our service was great. So Diners BEWARE! Great Authentic food would be great if it was in an inviting environment with great customer service. The ambience here is overall fun, however we went on a friday which was a karaoke type night and it was incredibly loud and hard to have conversation or think. The music was fun and a good vibe once you got used to it but I likely wouldn't return on a Friday. The food is absolutely delicious and their chorizo and homemade corn tortillas is some of the best i've had in Omaha's. I highly recommend the combo fajita and swapping the steak for chorizo. The portion size is large and you will have enough for leftovers which still tastes great the next day. The servers were friendly and attentive. It was $40 for 2 people. They have one buffet table and a nasty salad bar that no one ever touches. $20 for one buffet set up nothing authentic just a table of nothing special. $20 per person is insane considering there aren't any choices the food is mediocre and there's nothing mexican about any of it unless you order from the menu. But considering what's on the buffet ...it sucks 100%...terrible. read more

The prices went WAY up, which would be fine if the quality of the food and the service hadn't declined as well. My food wasn't brought out until my husband's was cold. The vegetables in mine were practically raw. His enchiladas were tiny. The chips were obviously fried in old oil. The tortillas were not fresh. And the silverware came ON the food. We really enjoyed our food and drink at Guaca Maya. I had a giant bean and cheese burrito with a lettuce and tomato accompaniment. It was tasty but made even better with a spoonful of salsa from the complimentary chips. The margarita looked amazing with a colorful lolly and a skewer of gummy candies. You have to see it to appreciate it. Bookguy had a mixed fajita that included shrimp, chicken and beef, which he thought was delicious. Sis ordered chicken fajitas that was so large she had the leftovers for lunch. There were two problems. One, as soon as we walked in the odor of mold was horrible. As we moved away from the door, the horrible smell was less noticeable, but I couldn't help but wonder about overall cleanliness. The second problem was the extremely loud music. There were three individual men taking turns singing using a karaoke machine. They sounded good and this was a nice change of pace from mariachis, but it was too loud per permit conversation. I had to rate Guaca Maya 5 stars, as it truly blew my expectations of a Mexican buffet out of the water. I was expecting cafeteria level flavor and in no way was it that. It was a nice size buffet and for the price of $15 which is less the a qp meal at Micky D's made it a true value. I'm gonna go back for sure as the quality here trumps that of La Mesa. read more

Went for the lunch buffet, and was super excited to stuff my face with delicious authentic Mexican food. Sadly, the buffet is mostly just lower tier options and fried food. Nothing to write home about (Phoenix, for me). The location is huge, lots of seating and decorated with Mexican decor to the 9s. It reminded me of many places in south Phoenix. It was a little toasty inside (crank that AC, it's record temps out!). I had some carnitas, rolled tacos, beans, rice, and enchiladas from the buffet. They were all average. Nothing awesome but not terrible. I don't believe I got my $13 worth of food...I felt fried food bloated well before I got into the $13 range. If I went back, is definitely just order off the menu. The fresh tortillas delivered to the table were very tasty, so I may just go with tacos on my next to around here. read more

Had their Nachos yesterday at the Arts Festival at Aksarben Village . The Nachos cost $11. We're served in a paper bowl. They were not that busy at this time but you'd think they'd had been swamped. Chip were piled in the bowl. At least a cup of runny cheese was dumped on top , then loose hamburger in a sauce. It was a big bowl of a sloppy mess ! Cheese dripping cheese and meat dripping over the sides. My hands , legs ground got a good globs of this concoction. The cheese was not even Nacho Cheese. Only the Tortilla Chips had Flavor. The presentation was the worst ever seen by this customer. No care or thought had been put into this food item. Very disappointed. Ate a tiny bit, gave some chips to the birds , threw the rest in trash. Lost my appetite. Change the cheese, don't overfill and make sure it would be a food we'd all come back for , not running to find a sink to wash up . read more

We used to love going to Guaca Maya, but it had been awhile since we had gone since it is clear across town. We went on a Wednesday night to celebrate my son's birthday. I was so sad to see how it has gone down in service and quality. We used to love the live music that would play, but this time, there was only bad Christmas music -- the same about eight songs on a loop. Our waitress had to take our order twice and she still forgot my daughter's order until after the rest of us had our food. The food took forever to get to us, and when it did, it was cold. I killed two large fruit flies -- one that was crawling on my food and one that climbed out of my margarita. Once we all had our food, our waitress never came back. I had to share my water with my son since he finished his and we couldn't get more. When we were ready to go, we gave up on getting to-go containers since the food wasn't that good anyway and our waitress never came back, and I had to ask for our check at the counter. Overall, it was a very disappointing visit, and sadly our last. read more

SO disappointed with Guaca Maya. Walking in you would think this was going to be THE place to be! Huge seating area, separate bar area and a pool table room all make Guaca look inviting. The buffet looked large and full of different selections when waking by. Unfortunately, Guaca doesn't meet at first glance expectations. The buffet was a huge disappointment, food items are not labeled and the food was bland. Several of the items looked as if they had been sitting for a while. Our server was incredibly inattentive. It took a while for her to get our drink orders, then she barely checked on us. At no time did I see any server bus their tables. We were really hoping this would be our go to place for Mexican food. Love the festive atmosphere. When I used to spend a lot of time in Los Angeles, there's a restaurant called El Coyote which I loved, and this place is as close to that as I've found. Try going in December for the Christmas decorations. I think it's better to go for lunch or an early dinner, as mentioned in previous reviews, it can get a little sketchy at night. The times I've been the service has been alright. As for the food, for me it's been hit and miss. The first time when I went for a work party, I thought the food was really good. The second time it was just okay. Both times I wasn't impressed with their margaritas. They were either too watered down or too sweet for my taste. The positive is that the chips and salsa are great and I think they came complimentary with our meals. read more

Great Mexican food in Omaha. The competition is tough especially in south Omaha and I would put in top 5 but probably not top 3. At times it can seem that quantity is put over quality and other times it is a 10/10. The environment is family friendly yet bar like with ' games of skill' and dance floor. And it kinda went downhill from there. The presentation of the parrilladas we ordered (Mi General) was great. The smorgasbord of seafood served in a large square pan was enticing. Then came the important part of the dining...the actual eating part. We started with the oysters...which had to be one of the worst (if not the worst) we've ever had. I don't even have the words to describe how bad they were. YES...they were that bad! The crab legs....well...they're not suppose to bend when you break them. It was like taking the shell off a Twizzler. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze. It's a good thing we got a Mango margarita to drown some of the terrible flavor from the other seafood. What saved the meal were the shrimp and the bowl of scallops and octopus marinating in a garlic type sauce...and the bacon wrapped shrimp. So it's not a total loss. read more

This very-large restaurant is hidden away. My wife found it on a holiday party trip for her work. We win. You should, too. The food reminded me of California. They make very good Mexican cuisine, and a good variety of it at that. I was impressed and know we'll be back. That the environment FELT like a large Mexican restaurant made it so much better. Good food, good visuals, and a live performance couple singing Mexican musics, Karaoke-style. Everything felt right to me. The decor almost distracted me from spotting a large hall that would be ideal for group parties. This place wins for that. Must bring a big group and reserve that space. Great authentic food!!! Delicious guacamole, but don't fill up on it, all the food is delicious too! Great spot in town for an authentic experience. Decorated so cool! You won't find another restaurant like this! Food: burritos are huge! And the Molcajetes are what a lot of people get when they come. Just a large portion of food! Love this authentic Mexican restaurant in south O. I recently visited for the second time on "taco Tuesday". 10$ all you can eat tacos. It was amazing to say the least. Street style corn tortilla tacos with a side of rice and beans. Soooo good. The kiddos had a sample of the children's menu which consisted of spaghetti with shrimp, chicken tenders, cheese burger, and "una taco". All where well received. We sampled all the jaritos flavored sodas they had along with a Pacifico for dad. The desert was a shared fried ice cream and flan. Both very very good. Atmosphere was amazing and comfy, service was A five star for sure. And you get free home made chips and salsa that taste amazing. Let me start by saying the food was pretty good and they have a lady making fresh tortillas which was awesome !! but the service was slow. We went to Guaca Maya for the first time in about 15 years. The food was decent and the service was good. Our main complaint was the margaritas. They were large, but there was no tequila, not any that you could taste anyway. We had a large group and everyone had the same experience. They are very expensive, $16.50 each. The Patron margaritas were $21.50 each and there was no tequila to speak of in them either. Surprisingly when we got out bill, it was noted that the drinks had 2 shots in them. What a joke! What we ordered was decent but I was most excited about the micheladas and margaritas! They both seemed to have great flavor and just the right touch of salt and spice. Great Mexican food especially for Omaha. The food was great and traditional Mexican however the service lead a lot to be desired. We did eat here on Cinco de Mayo so we expected it to be crowded but the service was abysmal. This is so far the best Mexican I've tried in Omaha. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken quickly, despite how busy they were. Food: AMAZING. Every thing we had was so good. We were a bit thrown off when we asked for queso dip and ended up getting a big stone vat of green salsa and unmelted cheese chunks. The cheese melted into an amazing fondue that was fantastic. The corn tortillas are freshly made and the best I've ever had. I can't wait to try EVERYTHING. The carnitas were fantastic, the mango margarita was to die for. Service: It was quite busy so taking that into account the service was great and prompt. Atmosphere: Interesting atmosphere, it's quite big inside and there's a big screen to watch soccer. I went here for the first time ever today and WOW! I immediately wanted to tell everyone I knew about it. It's the most fun atmosphere for a meal without going somewhere with actual entertainment. I told my friends it reminded me of the Mexican pavilion in Epcot. The building itself is so neat and then the food!! I have never had a Mexican buffet but wow oh wow was it incredible. Genuinely some of the best Mexican food. They also kept it very safe, staff wore masks and you have to put on gloves before going through the buffet. Crazy good food, good service, and low prices. A Mexican buffet, great idea!!! I've been here a few times and enjoyed it every time. They have a good mix of authentic Mexican fare like carne asada, churros and tamales, and also some standard items like a salad bar and enchiladas. They do a good job of keeping things fresh and the table service is much friendlier than the average buffet. I really like how they ask if you want either corn or flower tortillas, and then bring you hot, fresh ones of whichever you choose. They also have some traditional Mexican pastries that I've never seen before, very tasty. read more

Fairly good buffet that offers a wide variety of Mexican dinners (enchiladas, burritos, and red rice for example) and desserts such as Mexican-styled sweet bread, churros, cake, etc... I've been coming here for well over a decade and they still impress me as much as they have before. Service is swift; we are usually sat down immediately. Employees routinely check up on you so it's good to know that they care for the customer's happiness. The red rice here is excellent especially when mixed with the beans & bean sauce. Their tacos are fairly good as well but could use a bit more meat. The churros here are immensely good and are sufficiently coated with a good layer of cinnamon. Overall it is a fairly good experience every time I come here, and I do highly recommend this place. read more

We visited Guaca Maya recently and I can say that there is a distinct possibility that we won't be back. The location is off the beaten path, for sure, but I was excited to give it a try after some people recommended it. As you walk in, the festive streamers are kinda cool. The place is really big, with an area that has pool tables and apparently a dance floor that is used later in the evening for the "club" hours. Our server greeted us and got our drinks right away. We ordered some queso, which was a hit for some and a miss for some in our family. The salsa that they brought out tasted like it was from a jar. No bueno. As for food, we literally waited for 30 minutes for our order to arrive and it wasn't that busy. In that time, our server didn't really stop by and offer any explanations. She literally avoided us. Our chips ran out and so did our drinks. As for the food, it was meh for most. My wife and son both ordered "crispy" tacos but by the time it came to the table, the shells were mushy and fell apart. My youngest son didn't love his quesadilla. I personally ordered the carne asada and liked it quite a bit. The steak was tasty, as were the rice and beans. But, overall, the food wasn't all the great and we've had better at other local places. I don't often give two stars. But, between the so so food (three star) and the atrocious service and wait time (one star!), it's a fair review and rating for our experience. I had to go buy ice cream afterward for them all because I talked them into this and it was my punishment and their reward for enduring it. I truly do love this place. Very unique menu compared to all other Mexican restaurants. Very spacious and very open feeling. Nice atmosphere and very good food. I have been here several times for the lunch buffet and it's very delicious and fresh. Always a good crowd. They bring you fresh, homemade tortillas with it in your choice of flour or corn. I've also ordered several items off the menu as well. Steaks and fajitas are very delicious. Shrimps guaca maya are an explosion of flavor that explode in your mouth!!!!!! My go to meal is the molcajete azteca. It is almost like a stew with cactus, chorizo, carne asada and fresh cheese. Soooooo flipping good. Most of the meals are what I look for in a restaurant, ones I could not duplicate. Service is great. Always a hostess ready to seat you. Plenty of attentive wait staff to take orders promptly and keep those drinks filled. Waitresses are all dressed in what I would describe as Chiquita señorita outfits. Waiters are in all black. The chef even wears one of those huge chefs hats. EPIC!!!! Go early for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays though, it turns into a dance club at 9. Do expect a unique dining experience.
