The Grand China Buffet is super close to our house and we hadn't been there in a long time, so decided to pop in recently. It is pretty inexpensive, but unfortunately, you definitely get what you pay for in that respect. The decor is pretty cute, with little Pixiu dragons outside the entrance, high vaulted ceilings in the dining area letting lots of natural light in, and murals of different Chinese cities. But what really matters is the food when you're there for a meal, and the offerings were pretty standard, but nothing to write home about or plan a return visit. At any buffet, I like to get a small amount of each thing I'd like to try, instead of one large plate of one entree (I would go to non-buffet option for that). I started with a few appetizer style items: -Corn: This tasted like canned corn that you'd have at home, so a little disappointing. -Lo Mein: Okay for lo mein noodles, but pretty dry. I mixed this with some of the sauce of the proteins I got, so that helped. -Crab Rangoon: Not the best Rangoon I've ever had, but I did like the shape (little flower bud style) and the thinner consistency of the wonton. -Pork Bao: I was excited for this, but it ended up being very doughy with one tiny sliver of the Pork inside. For the entrees, I had small portions of a handful of them: -Black Pepper Chicken: This was actually pretty tasty and flavorful with the pepperiness. -Pepper Steak: This was similar to the Black Pepper Chicken, but it was a non-breaded style like the chicken had been so a different consistency. -Peanut Butter Chicken: One of my go-to favorites when I go to Chinese restaurants. This one was pretty dry and crispy so not the best texture of flavor I've had for this dish. -Broccoli Chicken: Another of my favorites usually, and this one wasn't terrible. The brown sauce was nice and the chicken was pretty juicy. -General Tso Chicken: I think this was my favorite of the entrees I tried. It had the sweetness along with a slight spice, so it wasn't a one-note flavor or too sweet, like some can be. And then for the dessert options, there were a few hits and misses: -The fried donuts were amazing, but you HAVE to eat them when they are hot and fresh. They become hard as a rock if you let them get cold. -There was a dark chocolate cake, that was the driest thing I had ever put in my mouth. I don't recommend that cake. -They had a cooler with Blue Bunny ice cream, and you can't go wrong with that. -There was an eclair style cake that was pretty dry so I wouldn't recommend that either. -Coconut Cake: I don't even like coconut usually, but this was pretty fluffy and delicious. The coconut was shaved on top so it wasn't as offensive of a coconut flavor as usual. Overall, this definitely is not the best Chinese buffet in Omaha (it's not even in the conversation), but it's a passable option if you have no other way to get to one of the better options in town. read more

I don't go to buffets often but we really enjoyed this place. My husband even said "I think that may be my favorite Chinese buffet I've ever been to" and that's saying a lot coming from him. The food was steaming hot, with tons of options. I loved the noodles and the crab rangoons and chicken on a stick. My husband ate so much seafood and sushi. Honestly 99% of what we grabbed on our plates was delicious. It was very crowded on a Sunday evening but the place is large and didn't feel crowded. The server was nice. The food was fairly disgusting. First it did not look appealing. Crab Rangoon wasn't terrible, but was not good. General Tso was not very good also. Food selection wasn't great. They had a lot of seafood type items, that from the looks of it, I didn't try it. Smell suffocated most of the restaurant. The things they bought, such as cake, jello, oranges, etc. were good. First time eating at any China Buffett in probably 10 years and I was quickly reminded why it's been 10 years. We were seated quickly, and the food in the middle of the restaurant was all visibly steaming hot but the taste of most everything was below mediocre in my opinion. My fav part was the coconut sweets in the dessert section. Second favorite was probably the pepper chicken and that was a 3/5. The rest.... Just wasn't great to me and I tried many dishes just hoping to get something at least decent. The warm tea also had extremely no tea flavor at all. Basically warm water. The Grand China Buffet is one of the better buffets I have been to. The waitress we had was very friendly attentive clearing our empty dishes and filled our water glasses. They have Mongolian grill but typically I selected from their buffet entrees. The food is fresh, always filled and hot. Overall I thought this is one of the better Chinese buffets I have been to in Omaha. My only knock is the decor (tables and chairs) are very basic. Overall this was a great visit and will plan to visit them again in the future. I would recommend this buffet to others. read more

I like going for lunch here, and they have a Senior discount. The variety is good and the quality is consistently good. The place seems clean. While not a big issue - and I just ignore it, the staff mostly act like they dislike ya. No smiles, no thanks at checkout and paying, zero communication attempts for any reason..... like they don't want ya there. I'm a one full plate customer and they are not losing money on me. I'm not one of the 375 pounders consuming 4 plates and ruining the profit margin. I know it can wear on staff with hundreds of people in and out day after day and they get desensitized, and not all the customers are sweethearts either, but one would think you could at least get a smile when dealing with a very polite and appreciative customer. Maybe a thanks when we pay rather than dumping change in your hand and walking away with a frown. If I owned this business, I would remind staff to cheer up just a wee bit as people do notice. I can recall staff being pleasant and happy I was there after they opened, but it appears that kind of faded there. It's a well known business priciple that while smiles and a kind word cost staff nothing, the customer does feel more attraction to returning there to that business. Now, I still enjoy eating there, and just have no expectations of the staff acting like they are glad I'm spending my money there. Life goes on. We went into a buffet experience not expecting much but the reviews looked good so we thought...eh...how bad can it be? The answer my friends, is bad, very, very BAD. The food was bizarre, out of the 40 options there were only 5 or 6 Chinese dishes and they were falsely labeled. The broccoli and beef had no beef in it. The won ton soup was water with fish balls (see picture). The steamed buns were a tasteless ball of mush that we might have been forced to spit out into napkins. And the tea was definitely mislabeled because at no point had tea leaves ever touched the pot of hot water we received. There are no labels on the majority of dishes but it appeared the rest was pizza, french fries and fried stuff that was unidentifiable - just chunks of fried stuff. The bacon wrapped shrimp initially seemed exciting until we realized the bacon was raw. It seems a lot of people like the shrimp and crayfish. So if you want to pay for just those dishes perhaps it's a good deal. We considered getting the Mongolian grill because it seemed like the only way to get fresh food. But even though the place was open until 9:30 pm, the grill area was closed by 7:15 pm. Staff were mopping the whole area down. Alternatively, there could have been a water leakage that they were frantically trying to contain. By 7:30 pm the staff had stopped updating the buffet and were cleaning the whole restaurant around the poor patrons trying to eat. The Health Department rates the Grand China Buffet at 1126 Chicago Circle as FAIR reviewed on 5/16/18 and the risk was HIGH. I'll admit right off the bat that I'm not a huge fan of buffets in general. So often your eyes are bigger than your stomach and the best items are picked over fast and furiously. Still, I have a few friends that love the bang you get for a few bucks. So every so often I agree to head to some Chinese buffet in Omaha for a few platefuls of chicken skews and whatever else fits my fancy. The chicken skews at Grand China Buffet are some of the best I've had. There's also a sushi buffet that is probably more looks than taste, but I enjoyed a few bites to start my meal. Don't forget the Mongolian grill. And octopus. And fried tilapia that for some reason no one was touching. And all the desserts. This is a big ass buffet and lunch was under $10. For an Asian buffet, this one does pretty well on the score sheet in both quality and price. Service can be pretty patchy during their dinner rushes, but its a huge establishment and I understand it can get hard to keep up. One time our table was overflowing with dishes and they were really apologetic when they finally got around to clearing it. I know many Asian families that will come all the way from Lincoln for the all you can eat crab legs and crawfish. Adults eat dinner for around $15 which is a steal if you're eating the crab (typically $10/lb+) ...Speaking of that, the crab and crawfish can be a hit or miss. Sometimes the meat can be overcooked and take on that powdery texture, but hey- I also gotta say they are quick with the turnover for bringing out new crab and crawfish as soon as it runs out. Thats when its a full house in there also!! I would say more times than not the qaulity of the shellfish has been good. They also have a large selection of sushi (for a buffet anyway) and other american chinese foods. I noticed they even had frog legs on my last visit which is pretty impressive. They have finger food for kids like chicken nuggets and fries, if your kiddos arent into the Asian stuff. There is real self serve ice cream and a Mongolian grill which I have never actually done. The food is always kept warm and it overall has a decent taste. Staff is nice, which is surprising for these kind of places. I'm now gonna list what we tried. 1. Kung Pao: good 2. Orange chicken: too buttery, lacks flavor 3. Steamed fish: not surprisingly low quality and would not recommend. 4. Beef and broccoli: very good 5. Steamed veggies: standard, makes you feel healthy I guess. 6. Buttered mushrooms: good, though super oily. 7. Jalapenho pork: good 8. Some sort of beef/brisket?: was not gonna ask but it was decent. 9. Crab rangoon: very well made. 10. Spring rolls: bland, not sure if safe lol. 11. Do not eat here. If I could give zero stars I would. I took my girls and we all took about one bite and spit it out. First of all it's more seafood than anything else. Followed by random American food, onion rings, roast beef, pizza: none of which is good. The potsticker has such tough filling I couldn't even bite into it. TERRIBLE! I used to go here for lunch with coworkers and it was OK. After a few years, I finally talked my family into trying it. Worst dining experience ever! The buffet was a mess with food all over the place as well as on the floor. Came here this evening (not by choice) and was pleasantly surprised! For the cost the food wasn't half-bad, not at all terrible. I went right to the Mongolia grill and made a shrimp noodle concoction that turned out quite tasty! We all had some of the pepper chicken which we loved! Also tried the chicken nuggets by accident and couldn't believe how similar they tasted to McDonalds... I love the Chinese donuts that are covered in sugar but only love them when they come out fresh (they didn't replenish it at all while we were there, disappointing). Overall clean, not too many chicken options, but people were going crazy over the crawfish. The best part of the meal was the ice cream station at the end. They had actual blue bunny options (cookies and cream, mint, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and sorbet) which definitely helps settle your stomach when eating greasy food/too much food. A large buffet with very reasonable lunch prices. Had a meeting on the West side of the city and decided to stop in at Grand China Buffet for a bite before hand. Restaurant is fairly large and can easily accommodate groups. Inside is clean with a variety of Chinese related decorations and paintings. Price for the buffet varies between lunch and dinner. My lunch buffet price was $8.25 not including drink which I thought to be extremely reasonable given the broad selection available to choose from. The buffet has approximately 45 hot dishes to choose from as well as 16 types of sushi, a number of soups, a small salad bar, a Mongolian Grill and about 20 desserts. A little something for everyone. Servers kept my drink filled and the table cleared of dirty plates. Food I had overall was pretty decent and I would readily come here again if in the area and had the hankering for a Chinese Buffet. read more

Really decent food at a great price (~$9-$11 for lunch). They probably have the greatest variety of azn food for buffets in Da Big O. For a pre-made buffet place, they actually have a nice variety of sushi too. I also like that GCB is really spacious and I don't feel too cramped whenever I come here (I need my space when I do AYCE, naw mean?). We just had lunch here. The food were delicious! They have a lot of foods which others buffet don't have. Like fried fish, jalapeño stuffed, small steamed bun, so much more choices, if you have being hesitating to eat here just go for it, it won't disappoint u for sure. Grand China is a GREAT place to go with family and large groups. This was evident in the numerous times I've gone here with my boyfriend and his family =) Even on busy days, the staff finds a way to accommodate everyone, they rock!! The restaurant is quite large and they have two rooms off to the sides where overflow peeps can sit in or if you have a private party. If you are coming with a large group it's best to call ahead of time so the staff can be prepared to set up tables to accommodate your group. They're really friendly and helpful. The times I've gone here the staff has been as attentive as they can, even during busy times. Sometimes, they may not be able to get to bus your plates right away, but you don't have to wait too long. The actual buffet area is pretty large and they have a great variety. From warm crab legs served with drawn butter, to sushi, to hot & sour soup, chow mein, fruit salads, and a bunch of desserts---including blue bunny ice cream! Whatever you're craving for and even if you're a selective eater, there will be something that you'll like. It may not be as 5 star tasting as a fancy chinese restaurant or one of the resort buffet places in Vegas, BUT it has a lot to offer a big group and it's a reasonable price as well.
