I called these guys and they told me it was a $29 service call, plus labor. I asked twice if they could give me an estimate of what that labor was going to be. I let them know it was a simple lock, but I understand what a customer says and what is reality is different. So the guy comes, he is nice enough. Seemed like an OK guy to me, he looked like he could have done the job with no problems. I ask him what it is going to cost and he says $29.99 plus $179.95 for labor. I say that is way too much for this service. I let him know that I do not think this is right and I do agree to pay the $29.99 but I am not paying $179.95. I let him know that I don't think it is his fault but had the operator given me an round about estimate, or at least a starting rate we could have saved everyone's time. He leaves and 5 minutes later the operator is on the line yelling at me. He says "we told you there would be a labor cost". I respond back about how I asked him twice for some kind of estimate. He starts yelling again. I don't remember what he said at that point but I do remember saying, "Sir, we are done with this conversation" and I hung up. Two minutes later he calls back again and so I tell him "we are not having this conversation. If you continue to call me I will be calling the police department." That ended the calls. I would like to add that I originally called 951-319-3438. The person who responded said he was with 24/7 lock and key and he said he was a referral. My guess what happened is that GT Locksmith is referring out calls and that the $29.99 is their referral fee the locksmith has to pay to GT Locksmith. So in this case the poor locksmith got no money for his call, which is also not right because it makes him look bad. In case you are wondering the conclusion is I called around and in Riverside CA the current going rate is about $60-80 for a lockout for a simple lock. Part of what happened I believe is my fault because I was in a hurry and went with the first company I called. Our office needed emergency services due to a broken lock. When I called I was advised that the "technician" would be out in 25 minutes. The technician showed up and fixed the lock but the the amount of the bill was excessive. For just 1 door knob it was almost $800. When I spoke with my co-worker she sent me a copy of the statement and it was from a totally different company. The company that came out was 1st Choice. When I called to find out why a totally different company came out than what I called, I was told they were the "mother" company and that they could do this. I am sure they BOTH got paid since the bill was so high. We previously had a locksmith provide the same service for 2 doors and it was way cheaper than what these 2 companies were for just one. But when I talked to the guy on the phone he quoted me $29.99, after the guy unlocked my door he charged me another $300 on top of the $29.99. I feel completely ripped off and had I known it would cost that much from the beginning I would have called another company. I called them and a locksmith, Guy, was at my house within 20 minutes. After explaining how I had left my house keys in my husbands car, and husband has his keys at work, Guy suggested he unlock the car, as it would likely be easier and cost less than potentially having to crack open the house lock. This reminded my frazzled brain that I had AAA, aka free car unlocks. Duh! Guy still had to charge me for the service call, but I had purchased their $10 for $20 deal already so he redeemed that for me and called it good. Quick service? Yes but Customer service is HORRIBLE. I called and told the tech I have a 2012 Toyota Corolla and quoted 178 When he arrived he said he thought it was 2003, I said No I said 2012. The price will now be increased to 278 (looking back now i think he did this on purpose) I told the tech I will be getting my keys back because I left them in an Uber but I didn't know how long it would take and I needed to go. He offered to wait until I heard from the Uber so I tried to contact again and they were not going to be returned until the next day. I told the tech I would proceed because I needed a SPARE anyways l. NEVER at any point did he say this would DISABLE MY ORIGINAL KEYS. So I called the next day and spoke with the same tech and he said it was not his responsibility to inform me of that he tried to say "what if I never actually got my keys back and that person person could have robbed my car" (meaning the Uber) He said did his job and made a new key so if I wanted it fixed it would be another 29.99 for travel and 65 for service. Which I'm sure wouLd have turned into another 200 when he got there. UPDATE. I have not denied that the service was quick. It was very quick. My issue is with guy and his response to my phone call when told him my original keys are disabled. His English is great and I understood everything. The only explanation he gave me was the reason for the price increase. He said it is more expensive to program a key to the car because it has a security system built in..he did not explain that when he programs a new key he was clearing the history and disabling my original keys and when I called he said that it was common sense and not his problem or responsibility to let me know. Even though he knew I was getting my keys back the next day. I would also like to add that after I made this review he called me twice and asked me to take down the review and he would fix my keys for free. Why would you offer to fix something if you did it right the first time? Now he is making up stories that I threatened him with a 1 star and demanded my money back, which I did not. OMG!!! Talk about service!!! I called for service and the guy (who I believe is the owner) was very professional and provided a time of when he would show up at my doorstep. One of the first great impressions I had is that he was going to be a little late than originally anticipated but he took the time to call me back and advice me of change which was totally fine with me. When he arrived and assessed the needs, he was very professional and detailed in explaining and itemizing the costs. I am a numbers person so this was great. We agreed to the cost, based on two programmed keys that I needed for my 2005 maxima and this guy was finished in no time, I mean really, probably well under 10 minutes. I have acquired this same service, or actually for one key, I requested two today, and an AAA contractor took almost 2 hours. In fact, I was told then by the service tech that he was having a very hard time, not sure why if this is their expertise. I emailed Guy, wrote that I wanted to have electronic keypad type locks installed on three exterior doors He said he would need to come and look at the doors, so we set an appointment for the next day. He showed up on time, was polite and looked at the locks. And I didn't hear from him for a week, so I thought maybe I was too vague in what I wanted to do. I emailed Guy and said I wanted three new keyed alike deadbolts installed. And if he install the keyless " August" lock I wanted each door equipped with those. If not just new deadbolts. Never heard from him. Update; After leaving the one star review, Guy emailed me and explained why he didn't quote the project ( not being familiar with wireless security locks ) It doesn't explain why I didn't get an email back, but he did say he tried to call me, which I have no reason to doubt him. I appreciate the email now, and he was candid in that the job was too much for him. I work in Arizona. I called Guy at 1:39 P.M. to change the locks at our Temecula CA branch. He said he would call the office 20 minutes before arriving between the hours of 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.
