My husband and I decided to visit Ketchum for Memorial weekend and when we arrived, a burger sounded good and this was the highest Yelp rated burger place in Ketchum. Honestly I'm not sure why. It's obvious this is a gathering place for the locals to enjoy a beer, but that's not what we were here for. The service was friendly and our food arrived pretty quick. As for the burger, it was really bland. We had to add salt to give it some sort flavor. They presumably use frozen meat you get at Sysco food supply. There's nothing special about the burger. The fries were good and made just right, but again, a little salt would of made them better. If you want to place to hang out and have a beer with a friend, then Grumpy's seems like the perfect spot for that, but if you're hungry and want a good burger, for me, not so much. ‍ read more

Trying to find vegetarian food is also a little harder in Idaho. Definitely a spot where the locals go. We were rather surprised by how good their veggie burgers were! A lot of the restaurants were closed as we were looking to eat something between lunch and dinner time. We got 1 to split (just in case) but ended up getting 2 after we tried the first one. I consider myself a bit of a veggie burger aficionado. I don't personally care for "fake meats" like Beyond or Impossible. This was the best veggie burger I think I've ever had. Grumpy's has Garden Burgers and they actually put in effort to make them actually delicious. Think, grill marks, smoky flav and all of the condiments you could hope for. Big big big fan. My husband got the regular meat cheeseburger and said it was in his top 5 favorite burgers of all time. The staff was SUPER cool and everything in the order was perfect. Well done, y'all. A rare five star give. This place is great if you want an awesome burger and a beer! A big beer...schooners to be exact. At least 8 beers on tap. The atmosphere is very local. Down to earth and unpretentious. It's nothing fancy, but interesting decor. All over the walls are beer cans from everywhere, some no longer made I'm sure. We walked in and sat down, we obviously didn't know how ordering, etc worked. Instead of being an ass because we were tourist, the guy just said this is how ya do it...let me know when you're ready. I'd definitely go back for a great burger, fries and beer. Don't forget the fry sauce. It's good stuff. read more

I like the environment of this place, and the large drinks are fun just to look at. The veggie burger (and beer) is both significantly better and cheaper at Lefty's, however. I can only go by look and smell, but the actual burger's seem like they'd be quite good, especially by how many they seem to sell! This place definitely has charm and is worth a stop if heading through town for sure, especially if they happen to have something interesting on tap that doesn't have at the moment. Sun Valley isn't exactly nirvana for craft beer, and divey bars having craft beer is probably already technically a win, so set expectations accordingly. read more

Sawtooth Brewery Public House

We visit Sun Valley several times a year and have driven past Sawtooth Brewery Public House more…read moretimes than I can count. There is almost always a large crowd gathered out front, which usually tells you everything you need to know--but we finally made a point to stop in for lunch on a beautiful sunny day. The Brews Since it's a public house, the beer list is extensive. I opted for their Pilsner and Lager. Both were exactly what you want on a warm afternoon: light, crisp, and incredibly refreshing. The Food We decided to put their "best in town" claims to the test, and they did not disappoint: * Fish and Chips: They advertise these as some of the best around, and I'm happy to report they aren't exaggerating. The breading was perfectly light--not greasy or heavy--and the fish itself was delicate, flaky, and cooked to perfection. * BLT with Grilled Halloumi: My wife went with this, and the addition of the halloumi was a game-changer. Served on a pretzel bun, it was a unique and delicious twist on a classic. * The Fries: You can't have a pub lunch without good fries. These are those "just right" beer pub fries--crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Easily my favorite style. Verdict The atmosphere was great, the service handled the crowd well, and the food was fantastic. We will definitely be back for lunch on our next trip. If you're in Ketchum, don't just drive by--give it a try.

From the mug club, it seems like this is a local staple. There's trivia on Tuesdays. TVs on the walls. Picnic tables outside, if you're so inclined. Their food was "pub" but the elk burger was handmade and fresh, the pot pie wasn't out of a can thought the veg maybe been frozen not fresh, and some of the store bought stuff like their pretzel seemed better than a defrosted ballpark.

Plus flavored yogurts in individual containers and whole fruit like apples, oranges, and bananas. * humidifiers in the room. The hotel is so dry. We live at elevation in Park City, UT but Ketchum is drier! We ran the humidifier on high constantly but it was so great they offered this in the room. * they have a parking garage. It is $30/day AND there are easy access free spots around the hotel, but I imagine during peak season the offered parking is best. And it hurt! And when you're in town, I recommend the city museum, the wolf museum, the library, and the cemetery. And if the pedestrian paths are snow-free then head down Sun Valley Road.

So I have traveled to Ketchum and Sun Valley area many times over the past 90 days, my family and I are looking to invest in a vacation home here, heard that grumpys was the place to go for a good burger and good times. (last visit was 4/3/2015) Wow, they couldn't be more wrong. The name says it all Grumpy! should change the name to grumpy and rude. The food was horrible processed burgers, very unclean, grill, prep area and the employees never washed hands and handled food, money, and everything. Gross. took 15 minutes to get a beer, and the language and things coming out of the mouths of the employees was horrible. for the manager of the place to do nothing and say the things he was, I understand its a bar and things are said but when children are present maybe you should get a clue, and the long blonde hair girl get a clue, your in the wrong business. You are very rude and unfriendly, you should not be in position where you interact with the public, that was the 2nd dealing with you lets just say I am not impressed and you are not better than everyone don't act like it, The manager said nothing and did nothing, this place will never see my money again, and owning 2 food service companies myself , I tried to give it a few chances. No more. wouldn't waste your time here, better food and better staff at Leftys, and the wicked spud in hailey go there. read more

A lot of potential resulting in disappointment... Grumpy's is a cool run down shack that serves half decent burgers BUT, the owner of the restaurant is a complete jerk... If you are not a "real local" in his eyes, then expect a heavy dose of disrespect and bs. Even a lot of the "real locals" cant stand him. It's a shame a place like this has to be brought down so much by the guy that owns it... The nearby Johnny Gs Subshack and Perry's have much better food that comes with nice welcoming service (weird, they must enjoy making money?!). Don't waste a good meal in beautiful Ketchum being treated like crap.. read more

The food and atmosphere was as advertised,,,,basic atmosphere and tasty burgers. Unfortunately I had to expose my family to the owner "holding court" on the patio to a group of folks with who he was familiar. Despite the fact that my kids and other youngsters were on the patio, he went into detail about his college days including an episode of "cock blocking" by some of his buddies. No excuse for his classless rant and his ignorance or lack of respect for the patio full of customers. Never again will I give him my money. read more

Great place for a beer. It's a Ketchum institution, so you can't go wrong. Food is pub grub, but decent. Cool place to hang out.

Like take a bite and do a double take in the direction of everyone else at the table... tasty. They take care in the assembly, the produce is super fresh/crisp, the beef is cooked perfect, the American cheese is what it must be, the bun is soft but toasted where you want it, burger sauce is there (but the only item we found could use improvement)...not much more to ask for. Fries were perfectly complimentary of the burger type as well. Free refills and the coke was amazing. The employees were very kind and helpful as well. This place doesn't get the love it deserves. One of the better burgers in the area and better than any burger you get at the village for twice the cost. It's a must stop for lunch or dinner when in Sun valley and you are craving some burger in your belly. Get you some...and eat up Boise.

At 8pm they are out of prime rib, halibut, trout, artichokes, ribs, and salad! WHAT is going on? I do understand this sort of thing happening on occasion, but literally the last 4-5 times anyone in our family has attempted eating here, it has been such a bad experience like this! Bad food, out of main staple items, or summoned to the dreaded basement... Unfortunately, after 46 years of dining at Pioneer, I think we are done! The past several seasons, something seems different. Always out of MANY items, and service is blah! It was literally a family favorite, so it's sad to even be typing this!!! Shout out to Sawtooth Club for getting us in last minute and serving a delicious meal! We will be back to support them!

FRX

**ONE OF KETCHUM'S BEST-KEPT SECRETS -- AND PERHAPS THE BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO ON EARTH**…read more I almost hesitate to write this review because **FRX is still gloriously under the radar**, and as a Ketchum local I have a selfish interest in keeping it that way. But greatness must be acknowledged. FRX has apparently decided that the entire restaurant industry has become unnecessarily complicated. Most restaurants hand you a six-page menu containing 83 things they make reasonably well. **FRX has basically said: Screw that. We're going to make ONE thing for breakfast and ONE thing for lunch--and make both of them ridiculously good.** And somehow, it works. Breakfast is a burrito. That's it. And I am prepared to say something completely reasonable and not at all hyperbolic: **It may be the best breakfast I have ever eaten in my life.** Eggs. Cheese. Sausage. Spectacularly crispy potatoes. Salsa. And apparently several other mystery ingredients that I neither understand nor particularly want explained to me, because whatever alchemy is happening inside that tortilla should probably remain a closely guarded secret. The textures are perfect. Soft eggs. Melted cheese. Crispy potatoes. Savory sausage. A little heat. A little acidity. Every bite somehow gets better. It is less a breakfast burrito than a **portable flavor explosion**. And it is HUGE. Eat one of these in the morning and there is an excellent chance you can simply cancel lunch, dinner and perhaps breakfast the following day. Yet somehow, particularly by Ketchum standards, it remains shockingly reasonably priced. Then lunch arrives and FRX performs another culinary magic trick. The vast breakfast empire shuts down and the menu essentially becomes: **CHICKEN.** Their crispy fried chicken sandwich is phenomenal. High-quality chicken. Perfectly crisp exterior. Juicy inside. A fantastic bun. Just enough special spicy sauce to make things interesting without obliterating your taste buds. Add the potatoes on the side and you have one of the most satisfying lunches in town. Again, this is not a restaurant trying to impress you with 47 ingredients, microgreens arranged with tweezers and a paragraph explaining the provenance of the chicken. **It's a chicken sandwich.** Except it happens to be an insanely good chicken sandwich. The whole place has a funky, casual, slightly irreverent mountain-town vibe that I love. No pretension whatsoever. The owner is right there, taking care of people and clearly giving a damn about what comes out of the kitchen. This is exactly the kind of place visitors can easily drive right past while heading toward something bigger, shinier and infinitely more expensive. **DON'T.** If you are visiting Ketchum, passing through town, skiing, hiking, biking--or simply possess a functioning mouth--put FRX on your list. I live here. I eat at plenty of great restaurants here. And this little place making essentially **two things** has managed to produce one of my absolute favorite meals in the entire valley. Sometimes you don't need a gigantic menu. You just need to make the hell out of two things. **FRX does.** Highly, highly recommended. And if the breakfast burrito starts getting impossible for me to obtain because of this review, I reserve the right to delete everything I just wrote.

The windows are dirty, the baseboard heaters don't wok and have cracked paint and the rugs are dirty and tired too. We had a nice time but the building and room felt they were in a time warp and in need of some TLC. Service by Terry was professional and fun at the same time. We still don't know what the meal cost. There were no prices on the menu and our friends paid so we are not sure. Probably very pricey! The manhattan was perfect, not too sweet and quite large! The antipasto board was decent but not spectacular. A few pieces of cheese, some jam, cornichons and hot smoked Idaho trout. It was served with lackluster crispy flatbread crackers. The butternut squash soup was really tasty. A really hearty portion, it was a bit coarse in texture and could have been blended a tad longer to make it smoother and more luxurious. the flavor was great with the pepita topping. The pork chop I chose was a mistake. Really overcooked, a tad dry and drenched in a sickeningly sweet apple compote that was more like dried apples rehydrated in sugar water with some spices. The best thing on the plate was the parsnip puree and there was not much of that. Wish I had ordered the braised lamb shank, however Terry did not mention that in his top three... Dessert was way better than it sounded. It was called a banana cheesecake however it was really a light banana flavored mousse between two layers of sponge cake with cooked banana puree on top. The chocolate dessert was fine. No one could finish it given the large portions of everything. It's a solid 3.5 stars, can't give it four.

Presidents Day Weekend is one of the (if not THE) busiest weekends in Sun Valley. My kids wanted to…read moreeat at their favorite restaurant in the village- Village Station. Unfortunately, there was a 1 hour 20 minute wait! We walked over to Gretchen's remembering we had a pretty good dinner there last spring. They told us they were at capacity, but to grab the couches when they became available and it was the same menu and service. It took us about 15 minutes to secure a table in the lounge, which wasn't too bad. Since I had 3 very hungry kids with me who had skied all day we were ready to order, but our waitress was nowhere in site. I asked a few other staff members if we could order and they said they'd send her over, but we waited and waited. Finally she showed up and we placed our order right away: ahi tuna nachos, tempura green beans and trout. For the amount of time we waited for our food we could have waited the hour and 20 min at Village Station. They teased us at one point by bringing out plates so we thought our food was coming, but no luck. Our waitress continued to ignore us, but i waved her over a few times and each time she told us our food would be out in a minute....and then another 20 minutes would go by. I asked if she could bring out a bread basket to at least get something in the stomachs of these hungry children (and my stomach too). She said she'd so right away, but nope. Finally after I waved down several more staff our food came out. I believe it was about 90 minutes after placing the order. The food itself was fine and I think the ahi tuna nachos were the winner. When the waitress walked by again I immediately asked for the check because had a feeling that would take another hour. At this point I nicely explained my disappointment with the meal, but she just smiled at me and walked away. And as we were walking up the bread basket we had asked for at least an hour beforehand showed up. You'd think it was freshly baked bread for the amount of time, but the bread was as hard as rocks. This entire experience was 1-2 stars, but since I've had good experiences in the past and it was a busy weekend we'll go with 3 stars, but I won't be running back there during future trips. And I'll definitely stay away during busy weekends!
