At 8pm they are out of prime rib, halibut, trout, artichokes, ribs, and salad! WHAT is going on? I do understand this sort of thing happening on occasion, but literally the last 4-5 times anyone in our family has attempted eating here, it has been such a bad experience like this! Bad food, out of main staple items, or summoned to the dreaded basement... Unfortunately, after 46 years of dining at Pioneer, I think we are done! The past several seasons, something seems different. Always out of MANY items, and service is blah! It was literally a family favorite, so it's sad to even be typing this!!! Shout out to Sawtooth Club for getting us in last minute and serving a delicious meal! We will be back to support them!

**ONE OF KETCHUM'S BEST-KEPT SECRETS -- AND PERHAPS THE BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO ON EARTH**…read more I almost hesitate to write this review because **FRX is still gloriously under the radar**, and as a Ketchum local I have a selfish interest in keeping it that way. But greatness must be acknowledged. FRX has apparently decided that the entire restaurant industry has become unnecessarily complicated. Most restaurants hand you a six-page menu containing 83 things they make reasonably well. **FRX has basically said: Screw that. We're going to make ONE thing for breakfast and ONE thing for lunch--and make both of them ridiculously good.** And somehow, it works. Breakfast is a burrito. That's it. And I am prepared to say something completely reasonable and not at all hyperbolic: **It may be the best breakfast I have ever eaten in my life.** Eggs. Cheese. Sausage. Spectacularly crispy potatoes. Salsa. And apparently several other mystery ingredients that I neither understand nor particularly want explained to me, because whatever alchemy is happening inside that tortilla should probably remain a closely guarded secret. The textures are perfect. Soft eggs. Melted cheese. Crispy potatoes. Savory sausage. A little heat. A little acidity. Every bite somehow gets better. It is less a breakfast burrito than a **portable flavor explosion**. And it is HUGE. Eat one of these in the morning and there is an excellent chance you can simply cancel lunch, dinner and perhaps breakfast the following day. Yet somehow, particularly by Ketchum standards, it remains shockingly reasonably priced. Then lunch arrives and FRX performs another culinary magic trick. The vast breakfast empire shuts down and the menu essentially becomes: **CHICKEN.** Their crispy fried chicken sandwich is phenomenal. High-quality chicken. Perfectly crisp exterior. Juicy inside. A fantastic bun. Just enough special spicy sauce to make things interesting without obliterating your taste buds. Add the potatoes on the side and you have one of the most satisfying lunches in town. Again, this is not a restaurant trying to impress you with 47 ingredients, microgreens arranged with tweezers and a paragraph explaining the provenance of the chicken. **It's a chicken sandwich.** Except it happens to be an insanely good chicken sandwich. The whole place has a funky, casual, slightly irreverent mountain-town vibe that I love. No pretension whatsoever. The owner is right there, taking care of people and clearly giving a damn about what comes out of the kitchen. This is exactly the kind of place visitors can easily drive right past while heading toward something bigger, shinier and infinitely more expensive. **DON'T.** If you are visiting Ketchum, passing through town, skiing, hiking, biking--or simply possess a functioning mouth--put FRX on your list. I live here. I eat at plenty of great restaurants here. And this little place making essentially **two things** has managed to produce one of my absolute favorite meals in the entire valley. Sometimes you don't need a gigantic menu. You just need to make the hell out of two things. **FRX does.** Highly, highly recommended. And if the breakfast burrito starts getting impossible for me to obtain because of this review, I reserve the right to delete everything I just wrote.

The windows are dirty, the baseboard heaters don't wok and have cracked paint and the rugs are dirty and tired too. We had a nice time but the building and room felt they were in a time warp and in need of some TLC. Service by Terry was professional and fun at the same time. We still don't know what the meal cost. There were no prices on the menu and our friends paid so we are not sure. Probably very pricey! The manhattan was perfect, not too sweet and quite large! The antipasto board was decent but not spectacular. A few pieces of cheese, some jam, cornichons and hot smoked Idaho trout. It was served with lackluster crispy flatbread crackers. The butternut squash soup was really tasty. A really hearty portion, it was a bit coarse in texture and could have been blended a tad longer to make it smoother and more luxurious. the flavor was great with the pepita topping. The pork chop I chose was a mistake. Really overcooked, a tad dry and drenched in a sickeningly sweet apple compote that was more like dried apples rehydrated in sugar water with some spices. The best thing on the plate was the parsnip puree and there was not much of that. Wish I had ordered the braised lamb shank, however Terry did not mention that in his top three... Dessert was way better than it sounded. It was called a banana cheesecake however it was really a light banana flavored mousse between two layers of sponge cake with cooked banana puree on top. The chocolate dessert was fine. No one could finish it given the large portions of everything. It's a solid 3.5 stars, can't give it four.

Presidents Day Weekend is one of the (if not THE) busiest weekends in Sun Valley. My kids wanted to…read moreeat at their favorite restaurant in the village- Village Station. Unfortunately, there was a 1 hour 20 minute wait! We walked over to Gretchen's remembering we had a pretty good dinner there last spring. They told us they were at capacity, but to grab the couches when they became available and it was the same menu and service. It took us about 15 minutes to secure a table in the lounge, which wasn't too bad. Since I had 3 very hungry kids with me who had skied all day we were ready to order, but our waitress was nowhere in site. I asked a few other staff members if we could order and they said they'd send her over, but we waited and waited. Finally she showed up and we placed our order right away: ahi tuna nachos, tempura green beans and trout. For the amount of time we waited for our food we could have waited the hour and 20 min at Village Station. They teased us at one point by bringing out plates so we thought our food was coming, but no luck. Our waitress continued to ignore us, but i waved her over a few times and each time she told us our food would be out in a minute....and then another 20 minutes would go by. I asked if she could bring out a bread basket to at least get something in the stomachs of these hungry children (and my stomach too). She said she'd so right away, but nope. Finally after I waved down several more staff our food came out. I believe it was about 90 minutes after placing the order. The food itself was fine and I think the ahi tuna nachos were the winner. When the waitress walked by again I immediately asked for the check because had a feeling that would take another hour. At this point I nicely explained my disappointment with the meal, but she just smiled at me and walked away. And as we were walking up the bread basket we had asked for at least an hour beforehand showed up. You'd think it was freshly baked bread for the amount of time, but the bread was as hard as rocks. This entire experience was 1-2 stars, but since I've had good experiences in the past and it was a busy weekend we'll go with 3 stars, but I won't be running back there during future trips. And I'll definitely stay away during busy weekends!
