All the hype and delivers nothing. Made this our last night in town dinner plan. Daughter had her Grumpys shirt on and was super excited.. She commented afterwards how bad it was. Busy night. I get it. But only two people on a Saturday night!?!? Forgot my order.. Served at least 5 orders after mine was taken. Even the other part of my family got their food. Got our food an hour later. Only after I asked at least twice where MY order was.. I was told they were busy.. Finally had to yell my order across the outdoor seating area to the guy serving food. Guess what? It was wrong! At that point my kids were starving and had already eaten all of my parents fries until our order arrived. No bacon! Ordered with. Cheese yes, Ordered NO! Burgers were burnt rocks and cold to boot! Did I say anything? No! Did I feel it would matter? Not in the least. Didn't want the attitude or having to wait another hour to get the food we actually ordered if they had to redo. I do not even know if folks read my reviews ;) All kidding aside this place is a local burger/grill joint with a great little patio to have beers and greasy food. The folks behind the bar/grill are only looking to make one thing happen and that is to have you enjoy yourself but stay out of their way. I ate the salmon burger with a side of fries. The fries were mediocre but the burger was great. They had this special sauce, not sure what it was. I would've eaten it without the sauce. The girls who are behind the counter totally carry the name, GRUMPY'S....not friendly at all and to avoid them don't come in the evening, visit in the afternoon, much better service from the guys. I've always enjoyed grumpy's and I always try to get there at least once when I visit sun valley. The burgers are great and the beer is cold. The atmosphere is completely different from other eating establishments and I appreciate that. The service can be a little rough at times. The line cooks definitely don't care what the crowd hears during a rush. But take it for what it is. Enjoy the good food and dive bar feel. read more

Not a normal sit down restaurant and definitely more focused on the bar and beer side of things. Menu was located on the wall and when ready, ordered and paid for at the bar. Prices we're okay. There are food options for kids. The staff was friendly, service was speedy and was intrigued with the indoor decorations on the walls and ceilings. We got burgers, corn dogs and fries. Two of the three burgers was still pink in the middle and were a little too speedy when cooking them. Mine was tasty enough and enjoyed fry sauce on the burger and fries of course. read more

If you're trying to have a good meal this isn't your place. This is for loud boisterous friends and huge schooners of beer. If you're trying to fill your belly then just get a simple cheeseburger and fries. It's not really about the service, it's all about where you're at and who your with. If you wanna make friends this is a good place to start. If you tip the bartender when you make your first order you will probably get priority the rest of the time you're there. Decent tasting, cheap burgers, but thanks partially to being perpetually understaffed the service is not just typically glacial and indifferent (and sadly not even comically "grumpy"), lt's at times overtly caustic and downright mean. My most recent jaw-dropping experience made Seinfeld's "no soup for you" cook look like Mary Poppins. Despite my many years eating and drinking in dive bars and diners nationwide, I've never experienced anything like it in my life. My advice? Skip the lines and go elsewhere. Almost all of the other burger places in town want your business -- and show it. Life is short, spend the extra buck or two and revel in the many warm, inviting, contempt-free environments available within walking distance. Also, diners may want to google "Inspections - South Central Public Health District" and click on the top result to search for any local restaurant they plan to dine at. There's really not much open for lunch in Ketchum and it wouldn't matter. Grumpy's is the only place for lunch! A Fowl Burger and a schooner and you're good to go! Pete is the best, expect some humor and maybe a joke or two at your expense. Make sure you order at the right place at the bar, they won't come to you! And they're not going to bring it to you either. The place is fantastic. Super small, for the most part, everyone knows everyone. Just a great place to get a burger and a beer. It's a dive! It's cheap (compared to anything else in Ketchum) not terribly clean and not terribly accommodating. Good selection of beer on tap but, nothing out of the ordinary. The staff lives up to the restaurant's name. Not friendly and annoyed if you ask any questions. One of the staff ridiculed me because I ordered a pint of beer instead of a massive quarter gallon goblet. Yay for $4 32.oz beers! I have been going to Ketchum/Sun Valley every year of my life for 25 years and just discovered this place. Great place for a drink, they have a big patio which is nice in the summer. We didn't have dinner there but got some snacks off of the appetizer menu. The wings were nothing special, not saucy enough for me, but the fries were delicious. Actually the fries weren't that amazing but they were served with a whole bottle of fry sauce and fry sauce will win me over any time. Oh how I miss Idaho and it's obsession with fry sauce. It doesn't say "Friendly's" on the sign for a reason. Yet like the gluttons for punishment we are, this is a wildly popular place. It's perfect for apres ski. It's perfect for pre-ski, too, if you don't need to hit the slopes early. It's perfect for after work. It's a perfect pre-cursor to a night out on the town (they close early due to neighborhood noise ordinances). It's perfect to grab lunch, dinner, just beer, just a burger. Whatever you like - well as long as its on the menu, that is. And the menu, by the way, is located on a big green board on the west facing wall. Walk in the front door and turn around. If the tourists could figure this out, the staff might not be as grumpy ... but then again, it wouldn't be Grumpy's without hearing the bartenders dish out insults to the tourists and locals alike. Oh, and the east end of the bar belongs to the locals. Don't even try it if you were flown here and not grown here. The burgers are great. If you don't have powers of deduction the "fowl burger" is a teriyaki chicken breast. They do have veggie burgers, corndogs, and the typical bar fare. Beer is served in a 32 oz schooner for just $4.75 for the good stuff; $3.50 for the crap (aka domestic). read more
