I explained that some members of my party were still looking for parking while others were on their way, and asked whether I could simply be seated as a party of one while I waited. I had driven a considerable distance specifically for this event and intended to purchase food and drinks. I was told that I could not be seated or served until the rest of my party arrived. What made this especially confusing was that the event had been advertised as first come, first served. Based on that advertising, I reasonably expected that arriving early and waiting in line would secure a place. Instead, I was told I could not be seated or served despite having arrived and waited my turn. Out of frustration, I briefly sat down hoping to get a drink of water and order food while waiting. When I was told I could not sit there, I immediately got up and left the table. I then asked whether there was anywhere else I could at least get food and water while waiting for my friends. Both the hostess and the manager informed me that I could not be served unless my full party was present. What further added to my frustration was watching a party of two get seated shortly afterward. Whether there were circumstances I was unaware of or not, it created the appearance that the policy was being applied inconsistently. This is a tiny neighborhood bar and it's kind of hard to find, but it's well worth seeking out, especially on a Thursday. That's the only night they do karaoke, I love the KJ (Mike) and the bartender (April). They're both so nice and fun to talk to. He is so funny! I also love the manager (Jeremy), he's got some great stories. The karaoke has a HUGE selection (it's actually the same company that does my usual bar and the cool bartender there recommended I try this place out, since it's the same selection and same way of running karaoke fairly.) One of the reasons I was particularly interested in trying Lone Wolf, though, was that they've been promoting an expanded beverage selection beyond beer, including wine and craft cocktails. As someone who doesn't necessarily go to a brewery just for beer, I was genuinely looking forward to that. Unfortunately, that part of the experience was disappointing. The bartender we interacted with was a nice enough guy, but the service felt unnecessarily rigid. I asked if I could sample one of the wines before ordering a glass and was told no. That seemed like an odd choice because, had I liked it, I probably would have ordered a couple glasses. I then ordered a mojito, which is on their menu, and the bartender made a comment along the lines of it being "a little extra" for this type of establishment. That struck me as strange. If a cocktail is on your menu....and you're actively advertising that you've expanded into cocktails, then customers shouldn't feel like they're asking for something unreasonable by ordering it. I was made to feel that way. When we asked about some of the other cocktails, we were then told that many really weren't available that evening because they had been hit so hard. This was a Saturday night with a promoted 80s cover band. That should be exactly the kind of evening an establishment plans and staffs for. Being busy is understandable; not being prepared to deliver a significant part of the menu on one of the busiest nights of the week is different. We also noticed other guests who seemed frustrated because they weren't receiving the service they expected. I think Lone Wolf needs to get very clear about what it wants to be. If the vision is primarily a brewery focused on beer, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if you're going to prominently advertise an expanded selection of wine, spirits and cocktails, those offerings need to feel like a legitimate part of the business, not something customers are made to feel is inconvenient or unusual to order. Have the products available, empower the bartenders to show some flexibility, and make customers feel welcome ordering everything you choose to put on the menu. If Lone Wolf can get those pieces aligned, I think the experience could be considerably better.
