Came for breakfast on a weekend. Waited a few minutes while they cleaned off some tables and then were seated. Ordered some coffee and a pineapple mimosa. Several minutes later our food order was taken. Food came out VERY quickly but we still didn't have drinks, and then several minutes later we got drinks. Had a breakfast burrito, pesto scramble, and a waffle. The waffle w/ marrion berry syrup was good. But the burrito and scramble were subpar. Burrito had unmelted cheese. Burrito and scramble had unripe tomatoes. Drinks never got refilled. Took a while to get the check and leave. We will not be back. read more

Grounds used to be our favorite restaurant in Murphys. Things were going fairly well -- good standard bacon and eggs -- when I took a bite out of my country potatoes and pulled a long (I mean long) hair tangled with a bit of what appeared to be hairnet and an unidentifiable little glob of who-knows-what from my mouth. Our server (appropriately comped us on my meal, which was taken away half-eaten.) BTW, the coffee was very bitter. I am asking if restaurants serve Uncommon Grounds of Berkeley coffee from now on to avoid wasting money. read more

Mom is more of a picky eater, so I had her choose our lunch stop for the Witch Walk. The menu at Grounds appealed to her, so we made our way in. It's a bit of a tight squeeze at the front of the house, but once you move toward the back and outdoor seating, it opens up. I ordered the mozzarella chicken sandwich and my mom had the Greek sandwich without meat. She enjoyed one half yesterday, but text me this morning to say that the second half of her sandwich was even better this morning. Always a plus when the leftovers are equally (if not more so) appealing! I was disappointed in my sandwich, but not at all from a flavor perspective. I actually enjoyed the taste but had a HUGE struggle texturally. You know that texture chicken has when it's undercooked? That was my textural battle with the chicken on my sandwich. That was very visibly NOT the case, as it wasn't pink at all and tasted just fine. I just have a personal struggle with textures when it reminds me of something like that. It could have just been the cut used, or perhaps how it was prepared. Let me emphasize the fact that it was NOT undercooked... Flavor was there! AND I did finish my meal... just kind of had to talk myself through each bite. The only unappealing aspect of the experience. I'd strongly encourage checking the place out and if you aren't a meat fan, I imagine my mozzarella sandwich would have been just as flavorful without the chicken. (Which I may do next time I'm in.) The salad dressing on my side salad was really good as well. Creamy and herby though I don't quite remember the exact type. read more

Our yearly camping trip at Big Trees came to an end and it was time to head back to civilization, but before doing so, why cook breakfast over a fire when instead, we can go to Murphy's after packing up the campsite. That's what we did last year and it warranted the start of a new tradition after the camping trip. Like last year, we decided to go back to Grounds. We had a lot of people who wanted to join but had no idea when people we camped with were going to join so I'm afraid we partially caused a lot of anguish for the staff as people surprisingly were right on our heals and we kept trying to switch around who was where on an already busy morning for the restaurant. Once we finally got settled, the service was a bit slow, but it was excellent service nonetheless. Especially after the mayhem we caused. We were sitting close to the bar and it was a lot of fun watching the operation in play. I ordered an Irish Coffee with Bailey's Irish Cream and was by far better than any I've had. I also love that they do refill-drip coffee. It's good coffee. After several days of eating camp food, our breakfast was DELICIOUS. I had waffles, the wife an omelet, the boy had french toast, and I don't know what my daughters ate as they weren't nearby enough to check. We'll certainly be back next year for breakfast. I'll likely give some sort of heads up next time! read more

Happily surprised on a Sunday brunch, how efficient this restaurant is. We brought our dogs and we were able to get sitting outside. Dan was our server and he sure was hustling around between the other tables. We decided to try his suggestion which was the scrambled eggs with pesto, fresh tomatoes along with a side of French toast. His recommendation did not disappoint. With the French toast the Marion berry syrup was not too sweet. And with the scrambled eggs with pesto, tomatoes not only looked amazing and, the eggs were fluffy and every bite had flavor with the fresh tomatoes The other server, I think his name was taco, was kind enough to bring the dogs a bowl of ice cold water, open up the tents to block from the sun that would be scorching down shortly and turn the masters on. Customer service was great!! Food came out within 15 minutes of us ordering. Can't wait to come back!! read more

Everyone's food was great. Service was excellent. No problem seating 7 of us, but they don't take reservations.

This place was really yummy. They also have a full coffee bar, with sugar free flavors, so that was a great option to have! The eggs Benedict and cheeseburger were great & oh my goodness I wanted to bottle up their ranch and take it home. Idk if they make it in house or where it's from, but get the ranch, it's BOMB! My hash browns were definitely overdone, that's the only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars. read more

Great food I usually get the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, very good staff working there and the bar puts out some of the best Paloma's

The Good: The hostess was very kind, the food was delicious, and the patio was lovely. The Bad: The experience was ruined by the servers. They refuse to split checks, but will take multiple cards and split the cost equally. This is very odd given the fact that splitting checks is a very common practice. We even asked before ordering to try to simplify things. The Ugly: While this wasn't the end of the world, the reason we were given by our waiter was that they were "too busy." We were venting about this because by the time we left the restaurant was almost completely empty. A waitress overheard. She then very aggressively told us that they can't do it because it's "too hard." This is not an acceptable excuse. If it's that hard, maybe they need to look into getting a new POS system. In addition to being rude and unaccommodating, the service was slow, but we were still charged a 20% tip for having a party of 6 (we did not know this until our card was charged). I almost always tip at LEAST 20%, but the service (or lack there of) was not worthy of additional compensation. We were very disappointed and will absolutely not be back. read more

We have been dining at Grounds for years. Always impeccable service and delicious meals without fail. We stopped in for lunch today, and it was abysmal. The service was beyond lacking and all three meals were bland and tasteless. Not once did the waitress come back and asked if we needed anything. It wasn't overly crowded, no long lines or wait times. We thought it was a one off until we spoke with a friend who said that her family had had the same experience about six months ago. Hopefully Grounds can turn things around and represent the beautiful town of Murphy in the manner it used to. read more

The Great Gal and I dine at Grounds periodically.... Locally they are one of the best restaurants in town. Alas, they too are struggling with labor shortage. The last time I visited, even with an open spot at their little bar table, they could not seat me.... even for a morning cup of coffee while waiting, but the problem is that their kitchen was backed up. Unfortunately the Yelp reviews were what sold us to come. The potato pancakes were just hash browns and they had a funky taste. My husband belongs to the clean plate club and neither one of us could eat them. The server never even asked why. Just brought the check. The place was nice and clean. Not sure what's going at Grounds lately, we went for dinner we had a long wait for waiter ,Then a wait to order drinks, ordered salads another long wait, then before we finished our salads three of our meals came out?? The last came out raw?? Pork chops were well done and tough. More disappointing was the lack of attention to detail. When we mentioned the rawness of the steak we were asked if we wanted it microwaved??? The plates were not the typical presentation instead looked sloppy and soupy. Update on 8/12/23- Still fabulous!!! Very disappointed that they changed the menu though and discontinued one of my favorites: lamb shank! The rack of lamb was good but not as great as their lamb shanks. Highly recommend their Parmesan fries! Morgan provided us with excellent service throughout our dinner, and we received a beautiful & delicious complimentary cherry cheesecake for our birthday celebration. read more

Wow!!! I fell in love with Murphys & all the ambience of this small town! The restaurants are amazing and Grounds is at the top of the list. Our orders consisted of Crab cakes with spicy lemon caper tarter sauce ~ some of the best crab cakes I have ever had, great crab flavor and minimal filler. Caesar salad was delicious ~ very traditional flavors. The iceberg wedge was also fantastic. Grilled ribeye with sautéed mushrooms & traditional topped baked potato ~ cooked to perfection. The fire grilled elk tenderloin was out of this world & also cooked to perfection and included prawns, mashed potatoes & sautéed vegetables. The mushroom truffle raviolis were absolutely amazing, in a Sherry wine sauce with asparagus, shallots, blistered cherry tomatoes, forest mushrooms, smoked chicken & pecorino cheese. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was flavor bomb, served with sherry-Parmesan béchamel, sautéed vegetables & mashed potatoes. This was one of the most wonderful meals and the staff, kitchen crew are as nice as can be. Can't wait to go back. read more

Ventured in on the weekend before this big Chris Isaac concert. Obviously it was going to be busy with all the tourist. We were lucky enough to sit at the bar. Bartender was great! He was cool, calm, charming and attentive even although he was slammed. Our food order was taken and it came out quickly. They were slammed and held themselves together. The host was professional and assertive to all guests wandering in with lost looks in their eyes. Only feedback, they need a speed rack at the bar. Bartender was meticulous in putting bottles back to prevent them from dropping/breaking. read more

Visiting from out of town I looked this place up and saw the great breakfast menu although we were looking for dinner. Great food and upscale but worth the little bit extra as the food was great and the service was above and beyond. Not too much for little kids unless it breakfast but still enjoyed it. I would definitely come back to try breakfast. Dinner I would keep it to the older kids and adults. Definitely a gem in MURPHYS read more

I'm surprised that I haven't reviewed Grounds sooner. We often come here for breakfast and have really enjoyed it. Always warm, friendly service and good food and good coffee! On my most recent visit, corned beef hash was the special, and it was as good as my own. I seldom order hash when I'm out because it ends up tasting and looking like dog food. This was wonderful topped with perfectly poached eggs! We have happened here for dinner on several occasions, and it was excellent each time. Mr. S had the elk medallions which I enjoyed sampling off of his plate and will order next time. Be warned that they close breakfast service early before opening for lunch. read more

What a cool spot. Had a delicious breakfast. Everyone I was with liked what they got. This is the type of spot I would take my hip friends for brunch, but I would also take the family. Cool place either way. They have seating inside, in the back and in the front. I sat in the back and it was awesome. Great spot. I hope to go back soon. Grounds is my FAVORITE restaurant in Murphy's! From breakfast to post dinner drinks, you can never go wrong with going here! My friends and I go here every single time we are in Murphy's and we are never disappointed! My go to is the Half French toast on sourdough with maple syrup and a side of bacon! This French toast is to die for! I've also has their pomegranate lemon drop that was also very delicious! It was Very sweet and the alcohol was coated with the fruit flavor! My friends and I have come to befriend the bartender. He always goes the extra mile to make sure we enjoy our experience and we are taken care of. Will I be back? OF COURSE! read more

This place is amazing. First they are dog friendly and we own a giant dog. I know what you're thinking, no, you're wrong, he's bigger than you are imagining. He gets shy in crowded places. They found us a table in the back where he could hide during dinner. The food was amazing. The risotto, mushroom stuffed ravioli, and salad with strawberry vinaigrette were all excellent. The staff was on top of things, bringing water for the dog and extra plates so my wife and I could share. Highly recommend this place. read more

Since they don't take reservations, we dropped in on Saturday with a party of 6. They only had tables available outside with the promise of a heater. The heater proceeded to leak propane and burn the container. A quick thinking customer from V Bistro ran over and turned it off, thank goodness. The service was a bit slow, but they were very busy. In Murphy most places have wine tastings and not many have full bars but Grounds does! They also have a great menu with an amazing staff. Cyndi was our server and she had some great suggestion on drinks and food options. We went with her food suggestion and we were not disappointed in fact we loved it! Grounds is well decorated and very clean. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly. From what I understand the dinner the menu is even better than the lunch menu so I will have to come back and give the dinner menu a try sometime. read more

Really Nice restaurant with delicious food. Our family of 4 all enjoyed our dinner & drinks here. They have a great selection of food for all. We had seafood, burger, vegetarian, & elk (the first time for me), all so good...So good that my husband wants to move to Murphys so he can eat here more often :). Will definitely be back to Grounds the next time we are in town for a visit. read more
