Consequently it gets a bit crowded and waits at the bar can get a bit tedious. However, the reason that it always seems to be busy is that the food is very good and very reasonable. I would personally recommend the sweet chilli chicken panini with chips and salad for just £6, though this remains very much somewhere I would pop in for some grub (including breakfast - they open at 9am), than actually sit down and drink for more than a quick pint.

I'd been meaning to try this place for ages when I first popped in and tried a take away from the deli-like counter - which had Mediterreanean mezze-style foods to choose from. The take-away carton I chose, made up of cold mixed salads and mezze, was wonderful, so we went back there one evening to eat-in and try the pizza. With the lights dimmed and the candles lit, it was very sweet and homely - and the stonebaked Italian pizzas are wonderful (12" or 14"), with mozzarella sourced from Naples (the home of pizza!). I tried the 'C Minor' (Calzone vegetarian folded pizza) and not only was it lovely but it almost felt healthy to eat, too. The food is so good and reasonably priced, with a BYO policy, there's really no excuse not to come back here - and as a small, independent local business I'm keen to support it.

As it was packed with kids, and their helium balloons, running riot. after their high sugar intake of pudding and coke. That said. Me and the family had a lovelly meal and could not fault the service. The Menu is quite big, and I must admit. It took me some time to choose. In the end, I went for the Chicken and Prawn Pasta with Garlic Bread. Yummy. It was hard to have conversation, due to the noise. But I think on an evening. It is a lot quiter - minus the kids. Food is good American/Italian style. So something for everyone. Especially if, like me, you have friends who are fussy with their food. Well here. there is something for everyone.

The building, in red brick, is understated, and this isn't a fancy place like the Hippodrome or the Old Vic. It's theatre in the round, with seating on all sides of the stage. Apparently the theatre started life the result of ripping out the Imperial Tobacco offices that were here and they've managed to keep a clean, sparse feel that actors and directors love. I won't venture too many opinions on what sort of performances this makes for. I will say, though, that when I went to see Richard III, things felt very intense. They put on a range of performances here, a highlight being the dedicated Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory theatre company. Don't let the culture on offer scare you off. With tickets often less than a tenner, there doesn't have to a big to-do about going out here though. It's got a fairly relaxed and informal feel to it too. The Tobacco Factory is a smart addition to Bristol's arts scene.

The steel front doors are as easy to access as the vault doors at Fort Knox, but everything gets a whole lot easier once you've grappled your way in. The lay out is simple in this cavernous space, and the bar, with its dedicated food severing area, practically stretches the full length of the room. Amply staffed to cope with the numbers that often descend on the place, the team work well together, and so there's never too long to wait at the bar. I like to call in to make use of the free wi-fi and to plug in whenever I'm in South Bristol. I always order myself some tapas, usually manchego (which comes with a selection of delicious bread) along with some olives - the servings are incredibly generous, and so this is more than enough for one person. Up Fest will take place at the Tobacco Factory on 5 and 6 June, and promises to be a blast. with live music, dj's and 250 artists exhibiting their work. Tobacco Factory has a huge beer garden with a covered section for smokers if the weather turns nasty.

It's quite a posh place - expect the real, clichéd Bristol Uni and general Cliftonite crowd in here. I'm probably a fan though - the outside seating area is a really nice place to have a drink, even in the evening as it's serviced by a good amount of patio heaters. You've got to come prepared for Clifton prices though, as a drink is going to be quite far the wrong side of £3. They do a good range of shooters - last time I was here I tried the more lethal concoction of Jagermeister, Goldschlagger and Midori, which went down surprisingly well, and at £3.50 was an adequate, but not cheap, price for a shooter like that. They do have a table service, even if you're just drinking, which is quite helpful and surprising, you really don't expect that in Bristol. Also the staff here seem to be unfailingly attractive - I'm sure the management must have some sort of ploy going on, but I'm sure there's not too many complaints. As well as a main menu of good pub type food, they do a range of set menus, including buffets, BBQs and a more gormet set menu. The food is an excellent quality, and I actually think fairly priced for the standard. The only drawback the menus other than the main are only available to large groups, but the main one is pretty wide ranging. Maybe a bit boring, but I advise the burger, a beer, a bit of sunshine and have a chill in the patio area - it'll do your soul good.

They do a good trade in after work drinkers, and I think thats why. Clifton Wine Bar is an escape. But where it falls down for me is on its lack of soul and atmosphere; the interior is pretty bland and unattractive and it all has a rather unwelcoming effect. It is a huge bar and I have had some great nights in there sat around a table chatting with friends. As a place to just be with your friends it is perfect. But if you want to watch the sport, get a table early. Perhaps it's because of the low ceilings and positioning of the Telly's, but the view can be restricted. That said it is great that they show all the football and rugby and I do enjoy watching it there, I'm just obviously not alone there. It doesn't offer much else for me, I wouldn't go there to listen to music, soak up a cool atmosphere or try a tasty cocktail but it is known as being a big favourite with recruitment consultants and estate agents. And if you smoke, there is a fantastic garden for that.
