This was some of the best Italian food I had while in the UK. This is in the heart of bath and is easily walkable. The ambiance of the restaurant is very intimate it would be a great place for couples or a group of friends. The service was amazing the workers were very attentive and assured we were satisfied from the start to the end of the meal. The signature cocktails were delicious and had a heavy pour. The food itself had quite big portions and was absolutely delicious. We got a couple appetizers which were delicious along with complimentary bread service. It has been some time since I experienced such a fine dinner event. It was out of the blue that I decided to stop off in the city of Bath, and to find Sotto Sotto, was a memory I still share with others. Not knowing the area, and needing reservations, the staff was gracious enough to seat me since I arrived just as they opened. The atmosphere was pretty impressive and added to the experience. It had a rich sauce with the perfect amount of heat. The swordfish entree was delicious and the sauce that accompanied it added a wonderful degree of freshness. The roasted vegetables were an excellent complement. The tiramisu was rich and again presented beautifully. My martinis were well made and arrived quickly. Fantastic dinner in Bath! Started with a glass of Merlot- not too sweet and nicely fruity! Complimentary bread is tasty, has some tomatoes and great dipped in olive oil. Appetizer was the calameretti- this is probably the best calamari I've ever had. It's so light, the batter isn't overdone and it's fried perfectly so that it's crisp but not heavy. The squid meat is tender- it melts in your mouth and there isn't any tough chewing that has to be done. I had the risotto with zucchini and salmon for my main- a perfectly sized portion for me to be happily full but not feel horribly uncomfortable. It tasted so fresh with lemon zest and they top with freshly grated Parmesan and cracked black pepper- so light tasting and still satisfyingly savory. Service was also excellent and top tier, it was high end service for very reasonable prices. 2 glasses of wine, an appetizer, and 2 mains, all excellent, for £50 cannot be beat. They have a nice dessert menu with pudding and drinks, but we were too full to order more. To top it all off, they brought delicious lychee vodka shots on the house. I often read up about the restaurants in the city I'm planning to visit. One such suggested restaurant was Sotto Sotto and Boy was I glad we came here. This place is by reservations only and so you need to plan ahead of time. We couldn't get a dinner reservation but managed to get an early lunch reservation the next day. This restaurant is located underground and has cave like ambience. Very crude yet classy! Our server was oh so delightful! We ordered the shrimp pasta and fresh red sauce fettuccine along with some prosecco! Everything was mind blowing, the portions were perfect while the pasta sauces were so accurate! I think this might be the best pasta I have ever had in my life so far! Shrimps were cooked so perfectly that I couldn't stop admiring them and relish every Morse. I had the tiramisu for dessert- hands down best tiramisu I have ever had. I cannot emphasize enough why every food lover must visit this place! A pleasant experience but definitely not the most memorable meal of our trip. The ambiance is relaxing and lovely, and the service is great, but the dishes themselves don't really pop. The pappardelle ragu I had was savory and the meat was tender but the dish felt disjointed. Maybe it just needed more sauce for the pasta itself. There was also one pasta we had that was served with fish, but the fish flavor was just way too overpowering. I think the pasta was made using the fish stock which I appreciate creatively but it completely overwhelmed the pasta itself. You have to walk down a steep flight of stairs to get to the restaurant, but it is worth it. Beautiful ambiance. I can imagine it would be very romantic during dinner. The day of my flight was slightly delayed so we arrived about an hour late. They were so kind about it when I called that they made room for us (5 star for service)! We made our reservation well in advance. Normally reservations are made on the phone, but they kindly allowed us to do it via email as it would have been too late to leave it until we arrived in England. The space is as it looks in the photos and as you see it in your mind's eye. I felt as though I were dining in an Italian cava, which I've done. The excellent service provided by Luciano added greatly to the memorable lunch that we enjoyed. He made greats efforts to ensure that my dietary restrictions were respected. The bruschetta ai gamberoni (£8,50) was light and lovely. The calamaretti fritti ai sette sapori (£7,75) would have benefitted from a more refined preparation and presentation. The linguine con gamberi (£12,75) was of good proportion with a sufficient amount of protein. The fettuccine all'anatra (£13,00) was well-received by my dining companion as flavourful and of good consistency. Yummy bread basket. They serve complimentary digestivi after the meal. Upon arrival the reception was at first warm but quickly soured once we mentioned we did not make a reservation. The maitre'd was extremely rude and also told us that we must leave before a certain time. Then he spoke poorly about us to another staff member (my SO speaks and understands Italian). The hostess' demeanor could only be described as "frigid." This after she told me on the phone that there were tables open. The waiter also seemed to go out of his way to be unhelpful. He refused to offer a wine suggestion and never mentioned the specials. Other parties around us clearly received better service. At this point I was thinking I would rather they just have denied us a table than give us this treatment. The food, on the other hand, was enjoyable. We began with the burrata and the grilled portobellos with goat cheese. Both were excellent. I had the rack of lamb (pretty good, mild in flavor, cooked perfectly), my SO had the calf liver(delicious and rich, but too livery for my taste) and our guest had the grilled salmon (also delicious).
