Calamaretti Fritti Ai Sette Sapori

It has been some time since I experienced such a fine dinner event. It was out of the blue that I decided to stop off in the city of Bath, and to find Sotto Sotto, was a memory I still share with others. Not knowing the area, and needing reservations, the staff was gracious enough to seat me since I arrived just as they opened. The atmosphere was pretty impressive and added to the experience. To top things off the food was excellent. The service was top notch too. If I ever find myself in the UK and near the city of Bath, I would definitely return. I hope you remember to make your reservation and enjoy Sotto Sotto, as I did.

While brainstorming Thanksgiving dishes, I was just thinking about how I had the best branzino of my entire life here. The waiter told us that all the ingredients are imported from Italy and treated with the utmost care. It's true the recipes were meticulously prepared and it shows. The underground European cellar vibes were the perfect backdrop for a lovely, memorable, and frankly exquisite dinner with white wine and great company. Our friendcation visit to Bath was a highlight of 2024.

Wow what an experience! The vibe here is perfect for a date night or just a girls night. The service was top notch! I'm still dreaming about the lamb ragù pasta I had! Make reservations well in advance, you do not want to miss the opportunity to eat here!

Sotto Sotto met or exceeded my expectations in every way - highly recommended. I started with the prawn appetizer which was beautifully presented and just the right size for a starter. It had a rich sauce with the perfect amount of heat. The swordfish entree was delicious and the sauce that accompanied it added a wonderful degree of freshness. The roasted vegetables were an excellent complement. The tiramisu was rich and again presented beautifully. My martinis were well made and arrived quickly. The complimentary shot with the check was a nice touch. This was a wonderful dining experience in a beautiful space - the many positive reviews are easy to understand and reflect a consistent level of excellence. Not to be missed while you are in Bath!

Fantastic dinner in Bath! Started with a glass of Merlot- not too sweet and nicely fruity! Complimentary bread is tasty, has some tomatoes and great dipped in olive oil. Appetizer was the calameretti- this is probably the best calamari I've ever had. It's so light, the batter isn't overdone and it's fried perfectly so that it's crisp but not heavy. The squid meat is tender- it melts in your mouth and there isn't any tough chewing that has to be done. I had the risotto with zucchini and salmon for my main- a perfectly sized portion for me to be happily full but not feel horribly uncomfortable. It tasted so fresh with lemon zest and they top with freshly grated Parmesan and cracked black pepper- so light tasting and still satisfyingly savory. Service was also excellent and top tier, it was high end service for very reasonable prices. 2 glasses of wine, an appetizer, and 2 mains, all excellent, for £50 cannot be beat. They have a nice dessert menu with pudding and drinks, but we were too full to order more. To top it all off, they brought delicious lychee vodka shots on the house. While heading out, the manager stopped us and asked us about our meal. Wonderful experience and worth a visit if you're in Bath!

Probably my least memorable meal in Bath. Prawn appetizer was delicious, but the pasta was a strange tasting dish. Service felt detached. Their dining room is beautiful though. I left feeling disappointed and thinking this establishment is over rated.

Whether you're the world's biggest gin fan or you're still unsure about the stuff, the Canary Gin…read moreBar is an absolute must when in Bath for libations. The ground floor offers 200+ gins and the Cocktails of Gin Austen menu (oh, yes, you read that right - it's "gin's transatlantic journey to New York"; it's "gin of a different persuasion"; and they're all just £9). Gin is not my preferred liquor, but these extremely well crafted, balanced, flavorful drinks have me wondering if my previous feelings about gin were totally misinformed. The Big Apple (featuring Bath Gin [what they make here], hopped rhubarb Bath Gin, apple schnapps, escubac, lime juice, and tonic) is really refreshing, but it's the Little Italy that I felt the most feelings for: Bath Gin, coffee-infused campari, cocchi torino, and apricot liqueur. The presentation is straight out of a magazine, the ingredients are all delicious, and it packs a serious wallop. "In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." Is that too much for a drink or a bar? Ahhhh, you'll see what I mean when you check it out. Upstairs, The Distiller's Bar, has more gins and cocktails but I never made it up there. I liked to tuck into the downstairs right when they opened with a good book and a good cocktail and people watch. The owner was frequently (always?) there bringing the merriment, too, so the atmosphere always felt quite cheery and welcoming!

The Bath gin was delicious and wonderfully smooth. I had a G&T, which they made with an artisinal tonic and tossed a bay leaf in the glass... if you're a gin fan, this is the place for you. By the way, Bath gin price isn't listed - it costs £7/single. If the downstairs is crowded, try the upstairs - it covers the whole length of the downstairs and was pretty empty when I was there, while the downstairs was packed. They do have a few bottled beers (and Peroni on tap) and whiskeys and vodkas if you're not a gin fan... but why wouldn't you be?

They set me up with a tasting of various English wines and I was pleasantly surprised! The staff was quite knowledgeable about local wines and expanded my horizons on English winemaking! Nice crowd here too. A day later I returned with my wife just around their closing time and while they had indeed closed up for the night - the staff was having their end-of-week toasts - they STILL very hospitable allowed us to sit and enjoy a glass or 2, rather than simply asking us to leave. The place is a gem and I hope to be back!!

Wine list was extensive and fair, from inexpensive & really good to pricey and awesome. Generally, I think there was something for everybody on the wine list. Since this restaurant has mostly tapas style foods, we had multiple small dishes which were shared. I would highly recommend this approach as no one visitor/tourist could taste everything. We got close! Small plates: Snails and marrow Croquettes with andouille sausage Red mullet & anchovies Tomato and salad / with lots of seeds Risotto Cabbage - I couldn't do this one justice Dessert: Elderflower Pannacotte Berry mess All with a nice bottle of wine...or 2! We spent a wonderful evening with good conversation between ourselves and then with neighboring diners. The staff was very friendly and helpful in selections. The food was well prepared, quickly brought out in a proper order. Our young waitress was surprisingly knowledgeable about the wine. Don't miss this hidden gem!

She come over to our table, saying "we are going to have to give you your bill and you have to leave" I asked what for and she replied because you are doing drugs at the table. She then followed it up by saying " I see it. the table opposite see it and the whole restaurant see it" I was gob smacked and said what a false statement and complete lie she's just made up! All I was doing was being polite and amicable to the drunk girl, trying to get her away from me and my partner.(which the table opposite clapped and said "fair play guys you handled that drunk girl better then we would have") When I challenged the matrie'd she said she will get the CCTV to prove this is what happened. I waited for another 10 minutes and no one come to the table so I called the manager. I spoke to the manager and said I've just been accused of selling and taking drugs from this girl, please get the CCTV because maitre'd said she will get it to prove we had done such a thing! Conveniently the CCTV wasn't actually working in the area we was sitting in. By now my partner was upset and and panicking, I asked them to call the police to search me if this was what I was being accused of and nothing. The manager didn't have anything to say all he replied with was, I don't think that's what's happened I don't think you gave them anything I think they gave you something. Like this made it any better. The manager was as spineless as his maitre'd the whole company needs to go onto a customer training course and they need to think before they start accusing people of doing crimes on their premises. Absolutely disgusted it runined what was supposed to be a great weekend away. And I will be taking this further then just leaving a review.

It's hard not to: the location in city…read morecentre is great, the interior is super spacious and offers a variety of seating options (I've never had a problem finding getting a spot for a midday, midweek pint and order of chips), the decor is charming (think: treehouse, traditional old English pub, and antiques store vibes), and the rooftop bar on a sunny day can't be missed (and, I'm pretty sure it's open all day). My exchange with the staff recently has been super limited: I walk in, ask if I can go to the rooftop, they tell me I have to order at the bar, I ask for G&T (single, sometimes a double), they hand me a balloon glass with the gin in it and a mini bottle of tonic, I make my own way to the rooftop, I enjoy my drink for as long as I like. I like this transaction. The rooftop bar though? IT NEEDS SOME LOVE. There's seagull poop everywhere, the tables themselves are always dirty with trash, there's a layer of grime on absolutely everything, I'm not sure where all the greenery/plants have gone to (probably booted to make more space for chairs)... it's just super rundown, which is such a shock when you see how nice the restaurant itself is. There's a real "Instagram Vs Reality" thing happening here when you see photos on their website than experience it yourself. Other things to note: 1. H&W doesn't take bookings for the rooftop, it's walk-ins only! 2. They are a dog friendly restaurant! 3. It seems they've recently leaned into offering more gluten-free options! 4. Some vegan options available: sweet potato falafel, a cauliflower salad, a curry, a burger.

I didn't realize Hall & Woodhouse was a British chain restaurant until it was too late...but no problem! Staff was friendly enough for a pub, the modern yet retro ambience was clean, colorful, and amusing. £18 Sunday Roast with Roast Beef...pretty good overall! The slices of roast beef were tender, meaty, and tasty, just a bit on the chewier side. British Beef has never been quite as tender as American Beef. The roasted potatoes were wonderfully hot and crispy, and roasted veg just find, as well as the Yorkshire pudding. £17 The H&W Smokie Fish Pie...chunks of smoked white fish, classic béchamel sauce, cheesy crushed new potato top, mixed leaf salad...pretty good overall! £8 Sticky Toffee Pudding...sticky, buttery, gooey, and oh so good! Just as good as the independent pubs and restaurants!
