There is a deep fry potato that is so good can't really remember the name, so does the shrimps and squid.

What a great tapas bar! We loved the Patatas bravas and Spanish tortilla. Definitely try this place as you'll love it.

Same Same But Different was on my short list of places to visit for brunch during my trip to Bath;…read morefrom the rave reviews across every platform and the stunning food photos, I knew I had to check it out. The space itself has a hipster casual vibe, which is definitely a scene I'm comfortable in. Lots of wood and dark colors and fun light fixtures, there's even a few tables outside (but good luck snagging those during even remotely nice weather!). It's a relaxed atmosphere that's great for groups of friends, breakfast dates, or solo travelers looking to hide in a corner and study. If you're a fan of a bloody mary, definitely be sure to get one here! Unfortunately, in my opinion, both the food and the service were tremendously disappointing. I'll start with the former: I ordered the Vegetarian Breakfast that comes with a fried egg, grilled halloumi, mushrooms, baked beans, grilled tomato, spinach and hashbrowns. According to the menu, there's also unlimited toast and tea (or americano) when no substitutions, but neither of those options were apparently available to me. The food itself was plentiful, but unmemorable (and bland) compared to similar breakfasts I've had elsewhere. And the staff was, for lack of a kinder word, rude. Dismissive, too. It was actually the worst service I had during my entire trip, and it stinks when a place stands out for that, but that's what I'm gonna remember from SSBD.

Upon entering La Flamenca, I was convinced I had found my final culinary resting place. The restaurant is situated in a white walled cavern, with moorish inspired tiling which really do look like an Andalusian pueblo. Of course, the usual matador tat calls to mind the tackier tourist restaurants of Spain's beautiful South, but that's a forgiveable sin. Why the two star rating then? Unfortunately positive first impressions soon melted away when we entered the restaurant which was almost entirely colonised by a twenty strong group of stag nighters dressed as bull and matadors. More than just making me cringe a little, it was also impossible to hear anything - the acoustics of the cave really don't lend themselves well to big parties as all sound just reverberates deafeningly round the room. So we moved into the bar area, which had a far more pleasant and convivial atmosphere. An acceptable bottle of Rioja ordered and we were just beginning on our starters (a tasty enough selection of cured meats), when lo and behold, our main course arrived all at once. The selection of tapas wasn't particularly warm and all tasted disappointingly like it had been premade and microwaved. Although the total bill wasn't wild, it still felt overpriced when the mis-timed service and mediocre food was taken into account. And so, my quest for a decent Spanish meal outside of Spain continues...

The food was delicious (can't remember everything that we sampled, but i do remember the grilled sardines, baked choritso, meatballs (particularly good), cheese & that thin salty ham & bread (great bread) and really good olives). I agree with Matstars in that the rioja is very good. Also had a cognac and espresso to finish off. I think that it cost around £100 for three of us, but we were on a pre-Christmas day out and weren't holding back (hmm, i might have had two cognacs, come to think of it!). It was a fabulous lunch and the perfect pit stop. I would go back anytime (and hope to see some Spanish dancing!).

They host delectable paella night, dishing up the saffrony rice feast from a huge pan and serving it with a cheeky bottle of Rioja. Inside is cavernous, though tiny (only seats 24 people), the acoustic musicians that frequent pulse their folky and flamenco sounds around the place. The music nights are free entry too - bargain. It's colours and decorations draw your eye in and when we walked past the music caught our ears as well. Walking in, we arrived before the main rush, your greeted by a simple bar and relaxed staff each of whom snippets of Spanish can be heard from. We where shown to a table and offered a menu which covered all the tapas dishes we've come to expect of a Spanish menu and decided on a jug of the house Sangria. Service gave us a good amount of time to choose whilst the Sangria helped us along the way, even had a visit from the most relaxed dog we've shared a space with all adding to the ambiance. The dishes we chose were a good range and came pretty much all at once, given the size of table, dish jenga ensued however because we managed to fit it all in. We managed to get a second round in and also spoke to the waitress about the Spanish lessons they offer there. By this time it was really busy with a few locals getting ready for the live band. This place definitely packs all it can in a space. The band was excellent and spontaneous dancing occurred really excellent crowd. All in again really impressed and on a sunny day a serious bit if Spain. Fully visiting again.
