She has created an online presence to exude wealth with photos of her posing with her jet black show dogs and some black stallions she rides. I discovered her company after Nanci offered her services for grooming my dog, replying to one of my posts online.
On my first visit, I got lost finding the location. Nanci never told me her studio wasn't actually on East 6th Street, as her website says. After a frantic phone call (due to her fees for being late) I was able to gather qualified directions from Nanci, who told me in that moment, that her studio is actually on Comal Street, down a half block from East 6th, and that her address is for USPS. Upon arriving, I liked the studio's style, in person- but the drive through homeless camps in East Austin, kind of threw me. Nanci's reaction to my beautiful boy was questionable. Usually, genuine dog-friendly people pet the dogs and even get down on their level to interact with the dogs. My dog is super friendly and has a rich chocolate and tan coat, and she looked at him like he was a specimen. "I prefer blacks," she replied. I was annoyed by her elitist personality and lack of tact but I was in need and my dog was in need and we had already spent 45 minutes driving in circles trying to find the place. She quoted me $165 for a full spa groom- which is what is posted on her website. Upon completion, I asked for the total again and Nanci rounded up my bill to $180 with a very precious and unbothered aside, 'oh I had more carding to do'. I paid her and tipped her 20% and scheduled his next two appointments as she suggested due to the holidays and she enjoyed working with us.
The next 3-4 appointments went fine, but during that time, Nanci was posting passive aggressive posts about cleaning up her books and removing some dog families from her books. She seems to use her Instagram as her main form of expression and business communication but also to grind her axe with disappointed clients. She assured me she wanted to keep seeing us. She was still tricky to communicate with and work with, however, but I was able to warm her up. Several texts of mine went ignored. Those were texts asking for recommended products. She shared some, but coveted others. Eventually in person, she admitted to receiving my texts but purposefully did not respond to my question about the cologne, because it 'comes from Mexico and you'll never be able to buy it. I have to buy it when I travel there and bring it back with me. So that is why I did not tell you.'
Uncouth, at best.
In any case- our last grooming session was this February and at this point, Gajeel's had been opened for about 8 months. I overlooked her personality issues that could prevent us from getting my dog's needs met. I put the focus back on my dog and walked right in to a land mine for our last appointment. "Oh! I raised my prices two days ago," she started saying. I asked her where she shared this information. "In my Instagram stories." Perplexed with her inability to communicate in a professional manner, or with honoring her loyal clients pricing set when they scheduled the appointment- I reminded her that stories disappear after 24 hours. Picking my dog up after his appointment, I paid her the increase without complaint, lowered her tip to 15% and assured her that the other place that bathes and brushes out my dog in between her grooming sessions, is very good and vet- operated/ regulated. This was mentioned because The Snot told me my dog had guarded his paws this time and she had just jabbed me with a reference to his vet's groomer, 'but do they use fear free methods?? You know it's a certification. I have it but they may not." I replied that my dog loved going there and they had zero complaints. I also let her know that I do my research, and that she was the newest person in his life- and that is possibly why he guarded his paws. I could not believe the ego on this pedantic woman. The gall to follow our every move on our social media and than turn around and try to blame something on this other company. And for what? Guarding paws? That is totally normal behavior for dogs who have allergies, which she knew about. I'm ** absolutely positive** my dog guarded his paws with her because dogs know when their owners are being disrespected and act accordingly.
When I got home, I checked online, and her website had not been updated with the price increase yet, nor on her socials either. I text her then, and asked for a screenshot of the price increase notification, because I could not find it. She sent me two screenshots and one was from the story that dissolved after 24 hours and the other was from her website. So I went back to her website- saw she had just updated it after I asked her for this info, and then sent it to me.
