Available at Costco on Maui! - VN
    Vince N.

After consuming mainly Claussen-brand pickles for years, it was a nice change to try another brand. THE GOODS: Dill Spears - Available at our local Costco, their slogan "World's Best Pickles" caught my eye as I passed them in the refrigerator. It's a big container at 52 ounces and cheap at around $7. The spears are crunchy like a Claussen but aren't as salty, meaning you palate more of the cucumber's natural flavors rather than just sodium. Best of all, check out the ingredients on the label! Cucumbers, water, distilled white vinegar, salt, garlic, dill and grape leaves. No chemicals and unknown substances. The homemade taste is very obvious. TIP: They also sell hot pickles, whole pickles, pickle chips, sour pickles, bread and butter pickles, a pickle vinegar drink, a lemon vinegar drink and even a pickle de gallo. OVERALL: From being sold out of the trunk of an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, upgrading to a pickle cart, and now to the refrigerators of wholesale giant Costco, I'd say they've made it. It's like obtainable Amish pickles in a jar. Highly recommended.

Do you like Pickle Juice? Then these are perfect for you. The minute you get the impossible lid off, I guarantee there will be pickle juice EVERYWHERE. On your fingers, hand, countertop maybe even your floor. Yup you betcha...a pickle juice bath full of fresh garlic, dill leaf and grape leaf. The baths will probally continue the first few times you open it. Despite the terrible plastic bucket they come in, these pickles are very tastey. Nice crisp and cold and full of flavor. Super good. Where can you purchase this Pickle Bucket? Costco to the rescue for about $7.00. Will I finish the bucket on my own? Probally not, unless I eat a pickle a day. Actually I've ate 3 in the past hour. The Mister thinks I'm a rabbit.

    A continued struggle...

These are my favorite dills by far. HOWEVER, if you look at the attached photo if can be VERY HARD to open the containers. They will also leak on the way home from the store AND THEY ARE STILL THE BEST!

I see there are 2 reviews for the same pickles, but the other 1 is closed. Weird? These are garlic dill spears. I like them, so why the 2 star review then you ask? Well for starters they are extremely over priced!!! For a little less than what a jar of these cost at the local Bel Air Market I can get a twice as big jar of Claussen pickles. I like the Grillos as well as I like the Claussens. They are both great garlic dill spears. But, pay over twice as much for the Grillos? NFW! Then there is their really stupid plastic container. Hey I fabricated race cars for a living when young. I can glance at something and understand how it works so I had no issues myself opening up the container. But, I can see some folks having pickles and brine all over the counter with this stupid container. People have complained about the container for a long time, but they seem to be too hard headed to go to a regular jar. It looks like the older reviews are for the pickle cart and maybe store in MA? I honestly didn't read them all as I don't have the time. It wouldn't change my review anyway. The early reviews for buying 2 spears for a buck gleaned many 5 star reviews. The later reviews for buying them in containers at the local store not so much. I saw them, I tried them, and like them. Will I buy another container of them? Not a chance........ I have grown and stored veggies since I was a child. By June the cukes from my garden will make refrigerator garlic dill spears just as good as the Grillos or Claussens for $1.00 a quart Mason jar. Plus I grow and make them myself. That always adds value to the taste doesn't it?

One of the things that originally drew me to In Season was that they actually allow you to choose…read morethe items you want. I find this so much more useful and functional than receiving a weekly mystery box of fruits and vegetables that I quite possibly don't have any interest in. After all, a girl can only eat so many apples and bean sprouts... The products available for purchase include dairy, fresh pastas, fruits, vegetables, meats, bread, and more. Your delivery date is based on your location. For instance, I live in Cambridge, so my food arrived Tuesday morning bright and early (before 8:00 AM). I was beyond happy with the presentation of my order. The delivery person placed all of my perishable items in the cooler I set out in our lobby, and my other items were neatly packed in brown paper bags. All of the produce was clean and attractive (even the potatoes were tidy), and not a single egg was broken. I point this out because PeaPod always breaks my eggs and it drives me crazy. In Season is a bit pricey, but no more so than Whole Foods. My only true quibble with the service was that the meat comes frozen. I guess I was expecting brown paper packages tied up with string and a hand delivery by Julie Andrews, but let's be realistic, the majority of the fresh meat I buy ends up in the freezer anyway. I doubt I'll be utilizing this service every week, but I want to stress again that the quality of these products is phenomenal and I definitely envision having a delivery from time to time.

Slowly drifting back to sleep after downing a glass of water when the light on my porch turns on and I hear someone/thing on my porch. I immediately go Mrs. Brady on my husband and try to wake him up. Kirs: **forced whisper** Alex! Alex: Grumphshushnmf Kirs: **pushing him now** Alex! Alex: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Then, the doorbell rings. What the fuck? Robbers/rapists/murderers don't ring the doorbell! I wait a few minutes and then I hear a bicycle taking off down the road. Oh! Duh. My delivery is here! Thursday I had placed an online order with In Season. They promise my goodies will be on my porch, lovingly hand delivered via bicycle courier, before 7:30 in the morning. I go out and grab my bag of goodies. Fresh blueberries, raspberries, heirloom tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, fresh pasta and a hunk of locally made cheddar. Fabulous. Sure beats finding a serial killer on your porch at 5:30 in the a.m. The important details if you are lucky enough to live in their delivery zone (JP, Brookline, Somerville and Camridge. Suck it, Boston!): Place your order online before Friday night. Select from a small, but nice, selection of fruits, veggies, cheese, dairy, fresh pasta and even meat. Wake up on Tuesday morning with something to look forward to. It's all locally grown and made products. And delivered by bicycle. What a nice and easy way to lower your carbon footprint.
