What a truly amazing experience! We made a reservation in advance and when we arrived we had printed itineraries with our group name on the top! Such a little detail made us feel so welcome and valued. Ryan was our wonderful host for the tasting and not only did he treat us like family, but taught us so much about the Grgich family and their wines. We stopped here on our wine train tour and had such a lovely experience! A glass right off the train and a walk around the vineyard and winery tasting more of what they had to offer was such a treat! I was very excited to get a last minute weekend reservation here back in March. I am a huge fan of crisp Sauvignon Blancs which was why I chose this winery in addition to being a little obsessed with Croatian wines. We didn't see much of the grounds, but aesthetically Grgich isn't the most memorable winery I've been to. The tasting room was full which made the space feel more lively. If this is your thing - cool, but if you prefer more of a low key vibe (like me) this may be a turn off for you. Our host was friendly and knowledgeable. He walked us through a 5 wine tasting menu. The wines were good but sadly, nothing stood out enough to want to buy a bottle for home. read more

We visited Grgich Hills Estate on the Monday of a holiday weekend, having made a tasting reservation in advance. However, they do accept walk-ins! We were greeted with a taste of Sauvignon Blanc upon arrival, which was a great start. Grgich did have a small patio, but we were seated inside the tasting room, which had a modern look and a view of some wine barrels. I loved that the indoors was dog-friendly! Our host was knowledgeable and walked us through the tasting menu. We started with two different Chardonnays, which were both pretty good. After this we moved on to the two Cabernet Sauvignons. The second one, Yountville Old Vine, was incredible - amazing flavor, smooth velvet finish - I can see why it costs $240/bottle! The founder's nephew, Ivo, came to chat with us for while. He was incredibly passionate about sustainable farming and nutrition. He also gifted a complimentary bottle of olive oil to our friend, as a thank you for bringing us in - so sweet! Our host then let us try a couple extra wines, including one imported from Croatia. We didn't get to see much of the grounds, but aesthetically Grgich wasn't the most memorable winery I've visited. The wines were generally good, with the Yountville Old Vine being easily the most memorable. Overall, a good experience! read more

4.5 overall. We two did "Miljenko's Tasting". We had visited the sister winery in Croatia in 2017, and so decided to visit Grgich Hills Estate while in Napa. We enjoyed our visit, and are happy to have chosen this winery as one of the four we experienced during our Napa stay. Though the serving room was quite full when we arrived, the single server was adept at taking care of all visitors. We were even able to re-taste one of their Croatian wines. read more

We inquired about an industry tasting since other wineries in the area offer it. We've heard good things about your wines and wanted to try them while in the area. Instead, Nanette forwarded a message from your assistant sales manager calling our request a "drunk fest" because we have a larger party. That assumption is insulting and unprofessional. Grgich Hills was the third winery on our tour of Napa last year, which was a few days before the founder, Milijenko's 100th birthday. He has since passed, but he has left a tremendous legacy with a winery that offers some great wines, including a cabernet franc and a petite syrah we purchased to bring back to Florida. We received a warm welcome when we arrived at our table in the outdoor patio and saw the menu was customized with my last name. We did the flight named after Milijenko, which comprised a 2020 Chardonnay (Milijenko's Selection), 2020 Paris Tasting Commemorative Chardonnay (it was the chardonnay that was presented at the 1976 Tasting of Paris), the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon produced out of Napa Valley, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Milijenko's Selection, and the 2019 Yountville Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall, the chardonnays were quite nice, not the typical oak and buttery mouthfeel you find with the varietal, more dry and citrus. The cabs were pretty good but wasn't as impressed with them. And while the 2019 Yountville Old Vine Cab was nice to try, not sure I would spend $225 on a bottle. Our host Kyle really made our experience special, providing us knowledge about the winery, his understanding of the different varietals, his background in wine country with his family, and his ability to recognize I wasn't sold on what I had tried on the flight. He asked which wines I would like to try and settled on a cabernet franc and a petite syrah, which I enjoyed so much that I ended up buying a bottle of each one. Visiting the winery and enjoying a tasting is worth what we spent, especially, where we hadn't been before. There are other options for tasting that are more economically inclined as we did one that was a little more bougie since we tried some of the cabs that are higher end. read more

I came here as part of the Napa Valley Train package. It was a great experience. Although the tasting went by quickly , I really enjoyed it. The white wine is great, and it was cool to learn the history behind the winery that put Napa on the map. Grgich hills is one of the original vineyards in the Napa area with a long and rich history. We sat outside and it was a really beautiful garden. Our server was great as explaining the history and the process of making each wine. They do a lot of chardonnay which is generally a wine I don't like but they do it a different style which is less buttery/oaky then other California Chardonnays which actually made me like it. We asked our server it was okay to taste a gewurztraminer and they brought us out of a full glass. That was an exceptional wine and I had to purchase it. read more

This estate has some of the cutest outdoor setting in the valley. This is a must to visit. The wine train stops right outside of this winery. It adds a fun little flair while you're sitting here wine. What I enjoyed the most about my experience here is that they talk to you as they are serving the wine to you and explain everything that is happening. You don't really need a tour. Everyone was so nice, and it did seem like they gave more attention to people that were actually there to buy bottles, but that's OK and totally understandable. One of the best wineries I have been to and the attention to detail on the wines was superb. Especially for this novice that was out of her league several years ago. My trip to Napa and Sonoma was complete tasting this earthy concoction that I purchased a vintage bottle on my first trip and still have the picture. I even hounded my Croatian co-worker to make sure the wine was legit and see if he can ship me some upon his trip back home. Grgich has a special place in my heart and I will be back! We had a very splendid time at Grgich. Look, you have to get over the fact that Napa is a tourist trap in every way. Once you let go of the fact that you're going to pay 5x for the experience only because of the zip code and views, then you'll feel better. We usually go to Paso Robles, which is 30% of the cost but 90% of the quality of wine for most palettes of the world, so Napa is a fun, but expensive change. You walk into Grgich Hill, which has an impressive history and pedigree, and you feel the historic vibe for the most famous wine area of the US but also the tourism factor. It's a large venue, and they are maximizing volume. Look: it's laughable that I spent $150 per person for six of us to sip about 7 oz of wine and a few snacks. We had dinner in St. Helena a few hours later, and it cost less for 10 of us. Beautiful location...Frank, our wine expert, was a wonderful host, who really did a great job of walking us through the tasting and the background of the wines. It was a good but expensive experience, about 1.5 hours. They did a great job of accommodating our requests and giving us a high quality experience. With that said, the place was packed with people just waiting to spend $100s for a few sips of wine!! Yay for the American economy. We are blessed. read more

My tasting experience at Grgich Hills was amazing. When I arrived with my party, we were greeted by the host with a complimentary pour of Sauvignon blanc. We then went to our table to find out they customized my menu based on our reservation. They make you feel special with all the extra touches. We did the Miljenko tasting, which had two whites and two reds. The wines were all very enjoyable. I even tried two more wines at the end from the full wines list- Cabernet franc and a white dessert wine. My party and I also had the charcuterie board. I enjoyed the Machego cheese and the two crackers - rosemary and garlic sesame. Our server Noemi was so well educated on the wine and was very attentive. She told us how Miljenko really transformed the Napa wine scene by being awarded for his wine, out-competing European wine-makers. She would give us new glasses if we weren't done with our wine by the time she came back for the next tasting. When we first arrived, we already had a reservation so we were seated pretty fast. We wanted to sit outside, but they didn't have enough heaters so that was a bummer. We ended up going inside and the tasting room was a bit small. It was also very cold inside which was also a bummer because it was an already cold day. I would recommend layering up if you come during winter time. We did the Miljenko's flight tasting ($60). It included a 2021 Chardonnay Miljenko's selection, 2021 Paris Tasting commemorative chardonnay, 2020 cabernet sauvignon miljenko's selection and lastly, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville old vine. My favorite was the 2021 Paris chardonnay, it was so light and had aromas of citrus, lime, honeycomb, and ginger. It also exhibited notes of fresh citrus, white peach, pear and mango. The finish was long and smooth. I then decided to try their cheese and charcuterie plate ($35) which fed 2-4 guests. The plate was great with one negative to it. One of the cheeses had mold on it! When we told our server, she came back and said our plate would be complimentary and gave us another plate. To our dismay, that second plate also had moldy cheese. We ate everything but the moldy cheese. I was very disappointed as that was the last thing I was expecting to experience at this highly reputable tasting room. Service was slow, we were there for two hours, but our server Rochelle was really sweet, and informative. You could tell she knew the history behind Grgich and their wines. She was also very apologetic on the cheese board situation. After the tasting, we were allowed to take a walk in their vineyards and pick some grapes from the vines. The grapes were so sweet! I thought this tasting room was okay, it was smaller than I expected, but their landscaping and vineyards were beautiful! It's the perfect place to come and unwind with some delicious wines. I'm not sure I'll come back for their cheese boards, but their wine is worth coming back to. read more

I would give this winery 4 1/2 stars but Yelp doesn't do halves hence the 5 stars. The winery was started long ago by a partnership with Mike Grgich when he came to Napa from Croatia to pursue his passion of making wine. Unfortunately he didn't have the money needed to buy the land and everything required to start the business so he managed to get together with the Hills Brothers the creators and owners of Hills Bros Coffee fame who started that coffee business in San Francisco and made a fortune. Once the papers were signed for the business he now had the money and started the business. We sat outside the front of the winery and was greeted by a very nice host who went thru the history of how it was started and since Mike the owner still lives in Napa and was celebrating his birthday this year at 100, he frequently visits and takes photos with visitors. Mike was working at Chateau Montelena as their winemaker in the early 70s and he made the winning white wine that gave Napa its recognition in Paris and around the world. We sampled 5 wines in our tasting and everything went great! Highly recommend the tasting! read more

My wife and I discovered Grgich Hills 30 years ago. We loved the wines and the laid back atmosphere. Grgich Hills was the first wine club we ever joined. We recently went back to Napa and Grgich Hills was a definite nostalgia stop for us. Their wines are still fantastic, we even joined the wine club again. There is nothing "fancy" about Grgich Hills tasting room and that is part of the draw....call it "comfortable". Seems a lot of other wineries have gone overboard with the "museum" look. In the end, it matters what's in the bottle. Visiting this time, we found that it was the same experience as it was 30 years ago with friendly and informative employees. We also discovered their Olive Oil and purchased a bottle of that as well. MMMmmm. read more

Telling us when to serve each Wine and with what . Can she sell wine . So many delicious Vinos! I had so much fun running around this winery. This is one of my favorite wine estates. We went there with a group of us and we were shown to our table a nice round table near the serving area. We had a terrific server to help us throughout the process and let us sample some of the wines which were not necessarily on the list that was described for the day. Very nice touch which we appreciated. We tried the reserves including the Chardonnay that was in copy of the bottle, shock experience, as well as a series of the cabs, which were my favorite. We were introduced to Grgich's wines at the Half Moon Bay Wine and Jazz festival last weekend and what a pleasure! As we made our way to the booth, people started telling us we had to stop by Grgish. Once there, Sherisse warmly welcomed us to the booth and asked if we'd liked to learn more about Grgich. We obliged and as we started our tasting, learned so much about the history and people who work at the estate. The Zinfandel was top notch and left such a lasting impression, we started directing people to the booth because we could not gate keep. Sherisse was hands-down an amazing host and I'd have not discovered this place if she hadn't been there this weekend. Will definitely be visiting the estate! read more
