    Cabernet Sauvignon vines

This is a bouquet size wine maker but has a host of varietals. I especially enjoyed their Cabernet Sauvignons and their Sauvignon Blanc. Our host, Andy, was very informative and of course, personable as he's on a first name basis with my brother in-law who is a longtime club member. They don't serve charcuterie but they keep you hydrated with cold water. The pours were timed very casually so we didn't feel rushed to down our samples and Andy often offered us a second pour just to be sure we had enough to really judge our preferences. I'll be back again, as this was my third visit to this lovely outdoor experience.

I did a tasting here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had a great time! Not everyone has to do a tasting so it was nice that they were flexible. There's only host a few parties at a time and the outdoor seating is nice. The server was very friendly and the pace is slow. I am sad we didn't have time to stay longer as the atmosphere there was fantastic. Also the wines were awesome! I don't like rosés in general but THEIR rose was amazing. There wasn't a single wine that missed the mark. I cannot recommend them more; they are an amazing deal, both on tastings and on bottles.

Salvestrin is a great option to visit! My husband and I booked a same day tasting, which is easy on a Tuesday. Peak days are Fridays and weekends per usual. Andy, the Tasting Room Manager, has been with Salvestrin for 8 years and is extremely knowledgeable about their wines. We had the loveliest visit with him! The owner's lab Stella was onsite to give us a friendly greeting as well. Salvestrin has some great options for wine clubs. I chose the Family Gems. This family owned and operated winery is very hospitable and their wines are amazing. Their Three D cab is $150 and one I'll want to treat myself with over the holidays!

Wife and I decided to take a drive to Napa with no planning at all just to get out of the house. We noticed a lot of the places required reservations so I decided to look up the wineries on Yelp and call each one to see if I can make a reservation. The first place I called was Salvestrin and she asked if I was nearby they can take me right away. Luckily we were less than 5 minutes away. When we arrived the lady I spoke with was waiting for us ready with the wine glasses and an outdoor seating area. It turns out she was the owner. She was great. Made us feel welcome and explained all of the wines to us. We really enjoyed the Retaggio which is their blend. My wife is not a big fan of the reds but she loved that one so much, as well as their 3D Cab, that we ended up signing up for the club. Can't wait to go back.

Back at Salvestrin (again!) during our July trip to Napa. I swear their wines keep getting better. Personally, I have never found a Rose I liked & typically just snub my nose at it to opt for a Sauvignon Blanc. Well, Salvestrin changed my mind! Simply incredible and no wonder it is award-winning - just wow. All of their varietals are top-notch & getting spend some time chatting with the winemaker, Rich Salvestrin, elevated my appreciation of their wine. As Rich told me, "great people make great wine" and that is the truth. He & his family have been stewards of that property for decades & the love their put into their craft is evident in every sip. My favorite - well that is hard. It comes down to the Sauvignon Blanc which has always been one of the best in the valley (in my opinion) or their Retaggio. Simply stunning property, amazing family, exquisite wines. Don't miss this one when in Napa!

We decided to visit Salvestrin after reading an article about small wineries that are worth a visit. We made an appointment and stopped in on a rainy April Friday to try their wines. Our host, Andy ran out with umbrellas when he saw us coming, and we were also greeted by Olive one of the winery cats (probably the most people-friendly cat I've ever met). We sat upstairs above the winery in a nicely appointed room and learned about the 3-generations of family members to run the winery while sipping on their exquisite wines. We started with a light and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc then 2 different Malbec wines from successive years each with a unique personality and finish. We also were excited to try the 3D Cabernet (so named for the 3 daughters -the fourth generation in the wine making clan-all still too young to legally partake in this delicacy). The tasting finished with a sampling of the estate produced olive oil-a venture started by dad and the middle daughter when she wanted a horse. The tasting is not inexpensive, $45 per person, and you need to call ahead for an appointment as they are a pretty small place. They've got a wonderful outside patio where tastings are held when the weather cooperates. Definitely worth a visit to experience their warm hospitality and to try their delicious wines.

Absolutely WONDERFUL!!! Top notch service, incredible staff/family, beautiful rooms, delicious meals, breathtaking views, and fantastic wine!!! Staying at the Inn really gave us the Napa experience we were looking for. Waking up to endless rows of grapes right outside and the smell of the wonderful breakfast RJ made us was a real treat! Eddie gave us one of the best wine tastings we had during our trip and we would come back to Salvestrin based on our experience with Eddie alone! The wine was delicious but it speaks for itself... the people you are with while you are enjoying it is what really makes the experience. Thanks to Eddie, RJ, Lynn, and the entire Salvestrin family, we had a great time in Napa Valley! We will most definitely be returning to Salvestrin!!

Lovely intimate tour!! You feel like you are on a family farm. Love the history! Andy was amazing showing us around. We felt like it was a family tour. Intimate and genuine. Loved learning about their family history dating back to 1800's! We also met the wine maker and he came out and spent a few minutes with us! And bought a bunch of bottles of their 3D. Amazing Cabernet Sauvignon

We really enjoyed the smoked chicken wings with Alabama sauce. The smokiness of the chicken was so good paired with the tangy sauce. Hubby enjoyed his pork chop. It was a huge cut but he always orders pork chop and never complains unless it's over cooked. I wasn't that hungry and ordered a regular garden salad and was convinced to add an avocado which was ripe but didn't add anything to the salad. I did like the sunflower seeds in the salad. There wasn't anything else on the entree menu that appealed to me. Maybe it would've been better to order a couple of appetizers as my meal. I could have consumed the entire plate if chicken wings by myself. Bathrooms are in the rear, in a separate small building. My biggest disappointment was the cheddar biscuits. It was chewy-like, dense and arrived lukewarm. Likely reheated and the dough was probably overworked. There was no cheddar inside the biscuit but coated on the outside. It came with a few biscuits but after eating one, I couldn't eat anymore because of the texture and chewiness. The honey butter (couldn't taste any honey) didn't help either. I make and try out different cheddar biscuit recipes at home and this would be a recipe I'd toss out.

It is a 5-course luncheon with wine pairings hosted in their private enoteca overlooking the vines, complete with a personal attendant and private chef to curate the experience. The food was delicious, the wine selection was superb--including their Howell Mountain Cabernets (Cold Springs, Croquet, and Cima)--and the private room was the perfect intimate space. It was such a relief to have a private area where I didn't have to worry about disturbing other guests while having an infant in tow! However, I'm giving this experience 4 stars instead of 5 because it felt surprisingly generic for a winery that typically excels at personalization. In advance of our reservation, I was sent a questionnaire requesting our music preferences and celebration details, but neither were acknowledged during the visit. Why ask for that information if it isn't going to be used? It felt like a missed opportunity to make the experience truly magical. Overall, it was a good experience with top-tier food and wine, but I expected a bit more of that "Clif Family magic" when it came to the details.

He has that rare ability to be both incredibly knowledgeable and effortlessly approachable, guiding us through the wines without ever making it feel scripted or overly formal. We were greeted with a beautiful sparkling wine to start, which was not only refreshing but also elevated the entire experience right out of the gate. It felt thoughtful, intentional, and frankly, a bit luxurious. And then, the pistachios. Such a small detail, but exactly the kind of touch that separates a good tasting from a memorable one. Perfectly paired, subtly reinforcing the wines, and just another example of how dialed-in the experience was. Geordy struck the perfect balance of education, storytelling, and hospitality. You can tell he genuinely cares about the wines, the property, and most importantly, the guests. There are a lot of great wineries in Napa. Experiences like this are what make certain ones stand out. Highly recommend. And again, ask for Geordy.

Since wine preferences vary from person to person, this review will be about the tasting experience only. The tasting started with their sparkling brut rosé, which was pretty tasty, however, it seemed to lose its bubbles after a short few minute walk to their fermentation and aging facility, which indicates to me it had been opened for quite some time. The "tour" itself lasted less than 5 minutes and didn't really come with too much of an explanation--it was more or less just allowing us access to the winemaking facility and showing the barrel room. The tasting was seated in their covered, outdoor patio--a beautiful space--a included 3 wines in addition to the brut rosé: 2025 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, 2022 Cabernet Franc Blend, and the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon 'RLC'. One thing I really dislike about Napa Valley tastings is when they pour you wines you cannot buy because they're available to club members only. It's quite pervasive in the valley and unfortunately, Crocker & Starr was no different. The 2025 Estate Sauvignon Blanc was only available for purchase to club members. In addition, if you like to know the technical details for each wine, they do not have any tech sheets/production notes available on their website or at the tasting. They provide empty bottles of the wines in the tasting, however they didn't match the vintage so it wasn't even possible to know basic information like the ABV of the wines. It immediately sets off alarm bells in my mind when a winery is opaque with the winemaking/product details. Some of us want to know the final ABV, RS, TA, etc, and to not have this information available anywhere is quite bizarre, especially with many producers moving toward more transparency rather than less. Our host was friendly but not necessarily super knowledgeable about the production of the wines. For example, when we asked about RS in the Sauvignon Blanc, she started talking about brix at harvest, which unfortunately has nothing to do with RS in the wine, which she later claimed was 0g/L--a value that seemed contradictory to the palate experience of the wine and impossible to verify without tech sheets. Overall, it was a standard tasting experience and from where I was sitting, not at all worth $95/person. Yes, I get it--Napa is expensive and they're selling "experiences" rather than tastings. However, based on our experience, this was merely a tasting and you can get a lot better ones for cheaper in the valley.
