I got an oil change at Z Auto Service where they did a full inspection of my vehicle as part of a coupon promotion they were running. During the inspection they discovered that my car was in need of new brake pads and rotors and had an oil leak. I ended up getting my brakes done at a different place that only does brakes after finding out the quote I got from Z Auto was really high. I was leaving in a couple days to drive over 2k miles, so I wanted to get the oil leak looked at before I left to make sure it was still ok to drive my car that far without immediate repairs. At the suggestion of my friend, I reached out to Greg to have him take a look, and he told me he couldn't get me in until the next week. He managed to squeeze me in when I explained my situation. He inspected my car and told me what he guessed may be wrong, but noted that I should be good to drive the long distance and we could perform further diagnostics once I got back. During this time he also noted that my coolant reservoir was bone dry (despite the first shop supposedly performing a thorough inspection and topping off all fluids), and my oil was overfilled. He topped off my coolant and sent me on my way without charging me anything for his time or the fluids. I definitely will be returning to this shop for all of my maintenance needs given both the competence and knowledge displayed by Greg as well as the customer care and service. He seems like an honest mechanic with extremely fair pricing based on the price he quoted me for new brakes and rotors, which was very close to the price I paid at a corporate chain to have my brakes done. (The quality of components he uses would have been higher and worth it.) I also found out an oil change would have been cheaper than I paid at Z Auto WITH a coupon. And if any further reassurance is needed after reading this far, I can only further convince you with the rave review my friend gave him, referencing his fair pricing, quality of work, and her repeat visits to him (due to having a less than quality vehicle, rather than previous work performed by Greg's shop). I move a lot. Moving just happens to be a big part of my story. One of my biggest concerns when I move to a new city, is finding a mechanic to take care of my vehicles. I also drive a lot (minimum 50,000 a year) and like to consider myself a cast member of the Dukes of Hazard. Needless to say, I need a GREAT mechanic. Greg was recommended to me be a friend of mine when I had a little incident with my VW wagon. I brought my car into his shop and so began a glorious relationship. But, before all the glory, we have, my car... Greg called me back and told me I had "brutalized" the underside of my vehicle. Not very comforting words, but "Okay." Things were bent, cracked, destroyed ... umm, brutalized. Greg worked with me and my insurance company to get everything covered, and in no time, I was handed back a car that you would have never known was virtually slaughtered. On another occasion, I brought a new truck into his shop recently for a minor servicing. In about an hour I was handed back a car that I did not ever recognize driving. Seriously, folks... it's like magic. Some people just have it, and others REALLY do not.. I have also brought a vehicle into him that were damaged beyond the scope of his shop (body work), and he got me hooked up with a guy that fixed a car in a way that no one would have thought was possible. See, that's the thing I get with Greg, no nonsense. If he can't do it, he won't say he can. If he can, he does... It's that simple. A friend recommended a mechanic acquaintence of hers who lived in Englewood to perform some much-needed work on my 2013 Rav 4. The situation didn't work out. As my vehicle was now far from where I lived in Federal Heights, and I didn't feel comfortable driving it in its current condition that far, I checked the local Englewood area for mechanics. I saw that Greg's Garage had really good reviews, and I called. Greg himself answered, and said sure, bring the car by. There was a LOT of deferred maintenance on the vehicle. Unfortunately, after I purchased it, I was not in a position to put money into auto upkeep beyond basic oil changes. I looked diligently for a different better-paying job, but by the time I got one, the vehicle was compromised due to lack of care. I was laid off from that new job last year, and didn't drive the Rav very much during quarantine. That also didn't do it any favors. I was frankly afraid to drive it; I already knew my brakes were shot, and that the car must have other unknown issues. Greg gave my car the once-over, and called. He let me know what work the vehicle needed, and very importantly- why it needed the work it needed. After speaking with him, I felt like my car and I were in good hands, and felt informed about what was wrong with my car, and the what and why of fixing it. And I am hardly an expert on the cost of vehicle repairs, but for the amount of work that was performed on my car, and for the years of neglect it had suffered, I think my bill was very reasonable. As for Greg himself- there's a feeling you get when you are watching someone do exactly what they were made to do in life. Like when you marvel at a pitcher throw a crazy unhittable knuckle ball, or watch an artist effortlessly bring an image to life out of thin air. Those people are doing what they are supposed to be doing. I believe this about Greg, too. He's a lovely person, and he is doing what he was born to do- running a clean, well-equipped repair shop and making you aware that you have brought your car to just the right place to have it worked on. The car drove beautifully after I left his shop. More importantly, I finally felt SAFE driving it. I highly recommend Greg's Garage. I wish his shop was located closer to me in Federal Heights, but making the journey to have Greg and his team work on my car is absolutely well worth the trip. One last thing. I have health problems, and mobility issues. I needed to re-register my vehicle, and it needed a smog test. This would have been quite taxing physically for me. Greg *took the car to be smogged*. He volunteered to do this for me. What's the word for a level of service like this... AMAZING? After getting this level of care- I cannot fathom taking my vehicle anywhere else. Greg's Garage is the one of the best independent mechanic shops around. It's clear that he takes pride in his work. Only $98 for a diagnostic of your vehicle he is incredibly thorough and absolutely find problems with your vehicle that places like Big O Tires will have a high probability of overlooking. Which is what happened to me. I'm extremely lucky I was referred to him as he prioritized my mechanical problems in the order of how important and immediate they needed remedies. I spend less money with him with a far bigger bang for my buck than I've previously spent at Franchise mechanics. He probably spent more time diagnosing some functional issues than I was actually charged for. Plus he was empathetic to my situation and gave me some discounts on a few services/ parts he replaced. All the parts and fluids he put in my car were OEM and recommended fluids for my Ford van. He also told me what a poor job the other guys did and had to do extra work to safely secure the poor install job on my radiator that Big O Tires didn't care enough to put all the bolts back in where they needed to be. If I hadn't had gone to him my car wouldn't have survived and likely would have become a clunker shortly after. But he saved my car from a trip to the junkyard. You will see in his lobby 14 framed educational and training certificates that are proudly displayed and can put your nerves at ease knowing that your property will be taken care of by an experienced, certified, knowledgeable, and honest mechanic. I'll start by saying that Greg's Garage is a place that I will DEFINITELY return to and highly recommend to everyone I know. When it comes to having auto work done by mechanics, I am as skeptical as they come. However, from the first conversation, I felt that I finally found a mechanic that I could trust. I own a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and usually do most of my own minor T.L.C. work myself, but the issue I was having was beyond my capabilities. From my own conclusions, I thought I was having a fuel pump related issue that was causing hard starts and stalls outs. Greg took all that I had to say into account but was still very thorough in running all diagnostics to figure out what was really going on.
