I came in because somehow one of the nosepads on my eyeglasses fell off. I had a miserable experience with Cohens and was willing to go anywhere other than to Cohen's to get it fixed (don't really trust those guys anymore). I called about it, came in and they fixed it and even provided brand new, softer nose-pads from the the ones I initially had. When I was ready to pay, the manager told me "no charge." They didn't know I was a Yelper so this is the least I could do. They basically advised and fixed my nose-pad issue for free. I was ready to pay but.... yea.... very cool of them. Took only a few minutes and did this for me despite never having stepped foot in their store or having previously spent money with their company in any way. This 5-Star review is the very least I could do in return [they didn't ask me to leave this review, I did this of my own accord only]. Worth checking them out if you have issues with your glasses or are looking to see an optomistrist at some point, at least from a customer service perspective. I'd advise to anyone to at least check them out if this is the case. read more

My 21-year-old son went to Greenpoint Vision Care for a DMV vision test and was told the total cost would be $25. At the end of the visit, we learned that insurance was being billed and that additional charges applied, despite his understanding that the DMV vision test would cost $25 total. As a young first-time driver, my son did not realize that services beyond the DMV vision test might be performed or billed separately. We do not believe it was clearly explained that additional services were being provided, that insurance would be billed, or that extra charges could result. Our concern is not the amount charged, but the lack of clear communication regarding the scope of the visit and the associated costs. Patients should be informed in advance about what services are being performed, what will be billed to insurance, and what their financial responsibility may be. Based on our experience, we would encourage others to ask detailed questions and obtain written confirmation of charges before their appointment. read more

I went in for a routine exam. After they dilated my eyes and I was disoriented, they led me out of the doctor's office and tried to sell me the most expensive glasses they had. The doctor was concerned I had glaucoma and scheduled a follow up. That next visit was traumatic. Suddenly I was told I had macular degeneration. "You're too young for it, but it happens," she said, then handed me a pamphlet for expensive supplements she recommended. After seeing a retina specialist, I found out I have drusenoid deposits, which I've been assured are nothing to worry about. Do not go here. Optical Warehouse is across the street and much better. read more

Racially Profiled in less than 5 minutes of walking in the door. My husband, who is Hispanic, went in to check if they accepted his insurance. The lady at the front, saw his insurance and asked, "what insurance is this? are you on welfare? is this medicaid?" not sure how you can instantly assume someone is on government assistance by the way they look. after he said no, and showed her his union voucher, she switched up and said, "oh yes, we take that". My husband said he'll take his business elsewhere and left. This incident took place on 03/26/2022 around 1pm. I've lived in this neighborhood for 30+ years and its gotten significantly more racist as time goes on. Its sickening to be honest. read more

VERY PLEASED with the changes here since last coming by, five years ago! My family had been coming here for many years and, one by one, everyone left, due in LARGE part to the EXTREMELY nasty former (long-time) receptionist who is now no longer there. Hallelujah! And what a difference. The new staff is such a breath of fresh air. I especially want to thank Margaret, the office manager, and Sloane (the optometric technician?) for a wonderful experience on our last visit, the 2nd of two within two weeks (mom had a medical exam and later went back for her regular eye exam to get new glasses). They were not only very helpful with working out how to make it so my mom could afford the visits and glasses without insurance coverage, but a total pleasure chatting with. My mom was seen by Dr. Endow (spelling?) both times and I was so impressed by her patience, the way she took her time and explained everything to us, her attention to detail and just her all around pleasant demeanor, that I've decided it's time for me to return to Greenpoint Vision Care for my own needs, as well. Also, I love the way they've opened up the space. The waiting room is now spacious and comfortable, as opposed to the cramped and anxiety-inducing space it was before, where it felt like you were all scrunched up in a hallway, with some people left having to stand and wait. I've been a customer at this place for over 20 years, my whole family has been going here. Even moved to queens and still traveled back to greenpoint for their great service and to support their small family owned business. For the past 1.5 years, under new management, the customer service is now horrible! Rude in person and on the phone. Lie about appt availability, I've left messages to speak with the doctors and I feel they never rely the messages because he's never gotten back to me. I had the most amazing visit today at Greenpoint vision. I called in early in the morning and was kindly helped by one of the staff members who got me an early morning appointment that same day. Upon my arrival I was welcomed by the secretary who had me fill out some paper work. I immediately was able to get checked in and see the eye doctor in less than 30 minutes. I was pleasantly surprise at the short wait time and how thorough my visit was. I was helped by staff when it came to paperwork, insurance coverage and selecting a nice pair of new frames along with contact lenses. Definitely the best optical retailer I've ever been to. My boyfriend originally introduced me to the place a few years back when we went to pick out his glasses. At the time I had better vision and didn't require glasses but fast forward 6 years and I'm near sighted with astigmatism :( What really impressed me was the customer service - my boyfriend had a pair of metal D&G frames with one broken nose pad, leaving the area very jagged. He came here hoping to find a replacement frame but they didn't have anything that fit the lens correctly. Even though he didn't wind up buying anything, the sales guy volunteered to shave down the sharp metal so that he wouldn't injure himself. I purchased a pair of Raybans ($204) with Crizol coated lens ($48) the price after insurance came out to $107. Staff was very nice and professional. I received a call after a week to come and pick up my glasses and Tony helped adjust it to my big ol' head :D read more

I came here last year for the first and last time for a prescription for just my contacts.. The staff behind the counter are only helpful if you are aggressive about asking them for assistance. The optometrist had given me a somewhat standard eye exam and asked the right questions but he also changed the measurements slightly saying my previous contacts were actually the wrong measurements for me. My contacts arrived on time, but when I started wearing them I had trouble adjusting them in my eyes and my right contact was always blurry.. So I opened up another package and the same thing happened.. I eventually took them to Greenpoint Vision Care and asked the optometrist about them-His response was unbelievable! He basically implied I was making a complaint out of nothing and that the lenses were fine and proceeded with the next customer. He made no effort to address my issue! Don't waste your time! Went in here yesterday just before closing to select frames for a prescription I got from Dr. Dong who unfortunately isn't there anymore. The older head receptionist was her usual unpleasant self. I'm not sure if it was because it was almost quitting time or because my boyfriend and I are both black but these people just stared. It was very uncomfortable and the man who was trying to get me to buy frames that would guarantee them a profit was saying to the staff something about "you're the boss". I suspect they were talking about us being there almost at closing time but it sure did not discourage him from trying to sell me additional lens tinting. I acknowledged the late hour and assured them that I'd be quick with my selection. I even apologized and thanked them for staying 5 mins after closing. When they asked if I'd be paying in full for the glasses that I have to wait 7-10 days to pick up I said sure because I can certainly afford them. It was all just a very strange experience. Given the fact that I've lived here for almost 40 yrs and some of the people that work there just got off the boat from Poland I'd expect them to be more courteous. Also, this isn't Manhattan and they should be more aware of the fact that they are just another small business that could be forced out of the neighborhood. I will never go back into this place again. I brought my glasses into this place to replace the broken earpiece. I asked the guy to adjust the fit because it was too loose on my face. He bent the entire frame, without asking me if that was ok, and he couldn't see how he had just damaged my expensive frames. I mean, not even an apology. Im sick of this place, the people that work here have an attitude problem, look miserable and have no idea on the meaning of good customer service. Not only do they price gauge on frames, the service and attitude of the employees suck big time. In a day and age when you can get you frames and lenses cheaply and using insurance online, I would expect that the attraction to actually going into a store is the service. This is probably my favorite optometrist in the area. The staff is wonderful and accommodating, their selection and prices are the best around. I get a pair of glasses every year through my insurance, so I've got a pretty good lay of the land over the past few years. This is it for me. I recently got a pair of specs here, and the experience was 5-star-worthy from start to finnish. They told me that it could take around 7 days for my glasses to be ready, but then it only took 4. I have truly terrible vision, to the extent that the coverage with my insurance is a little complicated. when i asked them for help navigating the forms required, his office personnel acted like i was bothering them and ACTUALLY HUNG UP ON ME. i have never been so disrespected by a doctor. Dr. Polizzi himself was no better, he refused to even talk to me about the issue and said he had other patients. He could have scheduled a talk with me at a later time, but refused to. If you have no special circumstances, perhaps he will be fine. But if you require any extra help, this office will treat you like a nuisance and completely blow you off. I don't call that often for an appointment and have been coming here for years. I go when the kids need them and for me every 2 yrs as the insurance allows. I am a large family and have gone through this before with the receptionist. If I did not like the service from the doctors, I would go somewhere else. So with the only information that I was making an appointment for 6, (no date was given), I was ONCE AGAIN TOLD, "NO, I CAN'T SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THAT MANY PEOPLE." My husband works, my kids are in school and I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO MAKE MULTPLE APPOINTMENTS. WTH?!? The rating is for the head receptionist who I feel just doesn't want to be stuck with whatever paperwork there may be....TIME FOR RETIREMENT! She is now blaming it on a new system and new doctor and the lack of a new doctor telling me, giving me (2 COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT STORIES WITHIN THE MATTER OF 5 MINUTES) 1- have an apt for a certain date, then 5 minutes later it turns to 2-that if I want my children seen we have to come in at 200pm. Vision Care is great. My son has been seeing Dr Christina Polizzi for several years so I decided to switch from my Manhattan Doctor. Dr Polizzi was much more thorough and attentive than my Manhattan doctor. She did many more tests as part of the eye exam and explained everything carefully. My only complaint was that it took an entire week to get an appointment. I just moved here and broke my glasses, so I had to be blind for a week before I got an eye exam and a supply of contacts. Otherwise, everyone was really nice. The receptionist was very knowledgeable, the assistant was patient while she helped me figure out how to use contacts for the first time, and I saw Dr. Jessica (not sure what her last name is) who is there on Tuesdays and Thursdays, was also very helpful. I didn't get glasses from them because my insurance would only cover contacts OR glasses, so they were happy to give me a copy of my Rx. read more

Very impressed - just got lenses replaced in my frames with an updated prescription. They were able to examine and determine the prescription of my old lenses, the kind they were, etc. so that they could order the exact same type of lenses with my new prescription. Once they got my new lenses arrived, they got them into my frames in under an hour, adjusted for fit, and gave me complimentary items to care for my new lenses. The people who work there truly went above and beyond what was needed to give me a pleasant experience, especially since I did not use their optometrist etc. I visited other eyeglasses stores in the area before arriving here that charged more and seemed less concerned since I wasn't a full service customer. read more

I normally don't take the time to write a review but when you go to a place and spend money in that business I do believe as a customer or a patient you should be treated kindly and with respect by the office staff. Unfortunately this office has an ogre of a manager that runs the place. It all started last year when I took my kids and myself for our annual checkup. After a disagreement and a mix up with my prescription it became a war with the "ALWAYS RIGHT" office manager. Anyway, a year and half later, during a pandemic, I have an issue .. so I went back with my tail between my legs and was as nice as I could be in explaining my situation and lucky for me the office manager agreed to be helpful. Too good to be true! After arriving in person, there she was the nasty, the rude, the ALWAYS RIGHT MARGARET! I hope I never have to return. There's a reason why so many long time employees and patients are not returning. Sad too because I've been going to this office for the last 35 years.
