Pork Chili Colorado $16.50 - Just ok. Good beans
    Rick L.

I should have read my review from 8 years ago. Bad, bad... Caldo soup had good flavor but lots of fatty meat. Chili Colorado (pork) was ok, beans good. Some reviews say pricing is cheap but most breakfast seems to be $16+. Service was bad from table service, to trying to on the bill, to being ignored when trying to pay at the counter. Lady walked away then didn't look at me. Hate to say it but if you don't speak Spanish you're ignored. My wife is Mexican and speaks Spanish. The tables next to us with people all speaking Spanish had great service all afternoon. F this place, I'm done here.

Food was served hot and delicious. Lots of flavor. Thank you to the cooks in the kitchen for caring and putting their skills to work for us. Nice decor clean establishment. The staff is welcoming and friendly but please come and share your experience with all of us.

I have lived in Whittier for a long time & have never tried this spot. Went out for lunch today & tried it. Had the soup/salad/1/2 sandwich combo & it was so goooood!! Especially the fideo soup. I also had a michi & idk what's their mix is but it was one of the best michis I've had in a while. I can't remember the waitress name, but she was little older, but was superb! & so sweet.

One could describe this place as sh*tty delicious authentic Mexican food or authentic Mexican food, without having to wait in line or for food, I guess 4pm is the perfect time to come for any meal, especially watching that silver haired fox playing solitaire on his 'notebook' wearing massive earphones like I don't know what's going on in them ears. The ladies who work here are aunties I wish I had growing up serving me exactly what's on the menu. It's all a little greasy but nothing extra, nothing missing. The best part about the breakfast, besides being served all day, is like a smartie, they melt your butter in them freshly toasted bread. The quesadilla reminded me so much of my first quesadilla made by my old English tutor from El Salvador. Greenleaf though use a much better, larger tortilla. It's exactly what I want at 4pm and 12am. No other time in between. Love the homemade chips and yummy orange Tang! Everything I want in an orange soda without the soda. Edit: 2 days later: fecal consistency is not great if not lacking. For the vegetarians who ate here we're still fighting this constipation and tummy rumbles two days after that authentic Mexican food.

The whole stem took most of seeds out.

2nd time here. I'm from La Verne. I come down here every Sunday for a class. First time I went after class, ordered a Menudo (no pata ) and Chile relleno burrito wet with no rice. My boyfriend ate the Menudo when I wasn't home so didn't get to see it. He said it was alright. My burrito I took to work the next day. Not gonna lie. It was delicious but it had all the seeds and stem. Wanted to try the menudo so got it with not too much hominy, and a chile relleno a la cart. To go order $27 plus 3$ tip. What do you see wrong about my order this Monday?

Their moles are definitely worth trying. We've had the mole negro and the mole pipián, and both were delicious. The mole negro is a little sweeter, while the pipián has more spice. They also serve tortilla chips with mole, which is something I haven't seen at most Mexican restaurants. The reason I can't give 5 stars is because the service has been hit or miss. We've been here three times. The first time was shortly after they opened. The food tasted decent but came out cold, and the service wasn't the best. It was during the week and not very busy, so we figured they were still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. After some time, we decided to give them another try. We went on a busy Friday night and were seated right away. The service was much better and everything seemed to be running more smoothly. We talked with the owner who was working as well as his wife who was bartending. They were both really friendly, and the owner seemed genuinely happy that we came back after we told him about our first experience. He even gave my husband a free beer after we moved to the bar to keep drinking after we finished our meals to allow for other guests to dine at the table we were. There was also a trio playing that night which added to the ambiance and was a nice way to end the work week. Our most recent visit was a couple of weeks ago for my husband's birthday. It was during the week and once again they were short-staffed. There was only one waitress taking care of the entire restaurant. She was so sweet and hustling the whole time but she was also bartending while serving every table. We definitely had to pack our patience because she was doing the best she could. Overall, Sol 626 has so much potential to be a great spot. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are what keep bringing us back. They need a little more staffing so the service can be as good as everything else.

Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

The restaurant has a cute, vibey interior, and the dishes are definitely photo-worthy. We started with the rainbow pancakes, which came as a stack of five colorful pancakes. They were definitely fun to look at and made for a great start to the meal. The Madres chilaquiles came with juicy birria and a flavorful red sauce. The steak was also surprisingly tender, and I definitely recommend asking about their house-made salsas to add even more flavor. The birria Benedict was one of my favorites. It came with a side of consomé, and the combination of the juicy birria, runny eggs, and English muffin soaking up all that goodness worked really well together. The pastor omelette was another standout, with flavorful pastor and sweet pineapple that gave the dish a nice balance. Overall, Madres Brunch is a fun spot if you're looking for a brunch with flavorful Mexican-inspired dishes and a cute atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the Whittier area!
