I have been a Fort Greene resident for many years. For a long while I had my prescriptions filled at CVSI. I can't count the number of times that I told myself I needed to start getting my prescriptions filled at a local, independent, Pharmacy. I am so glad I finally made the move, I just wish it had not taken so long. Greene Community Pharmacy - is exactly what their name describes. They serve the Fort Greene community, the pharmacist and other staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure my prescriptions are filled when they need to be, answer all my medication questions and, put me at ease when I had to get some vaccines. As other reviewers mention, they're just not dependably open during posted hours and prescriptions are never ready. Friendly people, but I'd rather have professionals when it comes to my pharmacy. Whomever owns this place should spot check the staff to make sure they open and close on time. I hate going to CVS but at least they're consistent. read more

They know who you are. Meds are usually ready at the most 24 hrs from calling in but usually I can get my order same day with no issue. Staff is always friendly and personable and they employ a delightfully sassy counter person who makes you remember what brooklyn was like before gentrification, full of spunk and heart. read more

It's the middle of the covid crisis there is a sign on the door that says the hours of operations. 9-5. I'm an essential worker and have to be to work before 9am and need my medicine. unfortunately it was 3pm and the place was already closed 2 hours before the closing time now idk when I will have time to get my medicine knowing this place does not stay open to the hours they advertise this is the worst time to provide a dis service to the community. I've really tried to support this local business, but they never seem to keep the hours they say they will. Their sign says 9a-7p, but I've never seen them open before 10, and they seem to close up well before 7. Some of us have jobs, so we can't just wander by during the handful of daytime hours they bother to open up, which is, ya know, not great when you're relying on them for important medications. This is a most wonderful pharmacy - local, personable, friendly, knowledgable. I have been going here for almost seven years, as I work in an office building just around the corner. The head pharmacist has created a really caring atmosphere, and the whole staff - at the front desk, the other pharmacists - are very helpful and open to customers. Some of the kind things they have done for me: - when I needed a medicine that was astronomically expensive and my insurance wouldn't cover it, they negotiated a price with me. - If my prescription runs out, they call the doctor's office for me. - If they don't have something I need, they will call other pharmacies and find a place that does have it. And look - I have one prescription with these guys, that I fill monthly... I am not in there every day, so I am not getting any special treatment. Its just a good kind place. This is an excellent independent pharmacy. They do what pharmacists should do -- get to know you and keep track of what medications you are taking, to watch out for possible interactions. They have a modest stock of over-the-counter stuff, at good prices, and will order items overnight from their wholesaler. Pharmacies like this need our support. We go out of our way to bring them our business. read more

HOPE THE CRAPPY SERVICE IS AN ANOMALY... I have always liked this place for finding the basics at reasonable prices. When I walked in this morning for a couple of items, there were three pharmacists behind the counter. One greeted me cheerfully and walked over to point me toward the section I needed. GREAT! I found everything and placed it on the counter to pay. As I waited at the counter, all three pharmacists (maybe one was training?) were behind the counter looking at the computer, discussing a prescription. I was the ONLY customer in the store at the time. After waiting patiently for a minute, I said politely, "excuse me... can I please pay for my items? I have to get to work." At that point, the pharmacists looked up and saw me. The one who helped me initially looked directly at me (presumably acknowledging my request)... and then they all looked down and went right back to their discussion. After about another 30 seconds of being ignored again, I said "I really need to go. Can someone ring me up?" One of the pharmacists then reluctantly lumbered over, rang up my items, handed me my change with no receipt and walked away. I literally had to tear the receipt off the register printer myself. I don't care what you're discussing, which I'm sure was important didactically and business-wise, but obviously a non-emergency, since it involved clarifying an instruction and/or filling a prescription for someone who was not then present. The customer in front of you always comes first. Surely, you can muster enough courtesy to let me know that I am visible and to complete my transaction. This particular staff needs some customer service training ASAP. read more

When I moved to Fort Greene from the East Village 4 years ago, one of the things I was sure I would miss was the friendly intelligent mom-and-pop pharmacy I'd gone to for 13 years. I must have great pharmacy karma, though, because Greene Community is just as good. This is my favorite pharmacy in the city, and in fact, even though I've moved back to the Financial District 3 years ago I still commute to Fort Greene to pick up my prescriptions from this place.
