I'm not exactly sure why this place has lower ratings. Maybe it's because it's an OG spot and people expected it to evolve more over time. That could be part of it. But there are things here worth appreciating. It's a casual place where you can grab a beer, catch a game, and have some Taiwanese street-style food. It's not a sports bar, and it doesn't try to be. It's more of a laid-back, old-school spot to just sit, eat, and hang out. Food-wise, it's decent. I've been to more expensive places with less quality. Is it amazing? Not always. Is it good enough? I'd say yes. There's definitely room to improve, but it's far from bad. Some dishes stand out. The scrambled egg beef rice is one I keep coming back to. At the same time, there are dishes that are just okay--or forgettable. This isn't a place you go in expecting perfection. Service here was good also because it wasn't too busy. Thought the food was just ok. There isn't anything here that was really unique. The green tea tasted just fine. Came here for a midday snack, went with a 50% sweet level earl grey milk tea with brown sugar mochi jelly, and a popcorn chicken rice combination. My first time trying brown sugar mochi jelly, and whooooooah...it's amazing. I can surmise they are trying to emulate the tapiomochi from toro tea, and honestly it is very very similar. Not too sweet, perfectly chewy with a rich brown sugar flavor, which I particularly enjoyed. The earl grey MT was cool and refreshing. I do wish the early grey aroma was a little stronger, but that's just personal preference. Popcorn chicken rice combination was also good, a solid 7.5-8/10. I was in the area to scope my next potential home. Walnut is a small area and this tea place is in the middle of what seems to be the hot spot of walnut. Tj maxx, schools first, and boba in the same plaza? I like a lot. After a trip to tj maxx, I came here for some food and drinks and a study session. I ended up getting some fruit tea, vegetables and rice, and fries. Everything was decent tasting, but I think the vegetables had some type of meat sauce on top. I could be wrong. Im a pescetarian, so it wasn't great finding small bits of meat but I mustered up and just ate it. Before leaving I decided to got some type of milk tea to try as well but that wasn't as good. We visited one of our favorite spot Green Shaker by Tenren Tea! Some of us know them as Tenren Tea but that was years ago. We ordered the Jin Xuan Oolong and Lychee Tea - both were spot on! Fresh and aromatic in their own right. You can customize the sweet level for the lychee if you are worried about your sweetness intake. We met the manager, an old friend offered us samples of different teas - Ten Wu Tea (similar to Jin Xuan, but a tad heavier on the after taste, a good thing); 913 Ginseng Oolong (a tad lighter than Ti Kuan Yin, both are very aromatic). Solid establishment. What stands out is the selection of different menu sections and items. What seems like a run-of-the-mill boba shop is actually a mini-restaurant and great place to unwind. Unfortunately, the quality of their actual drinks struggles to live up to the presentation and food, and my observation through the different visits is that you're better off coming here for food and not for the drinks, which isn't the goal of the restaurant from what I can ob. Don't get me wrong, they do offer a good selection of drinks, but I have yet to find one that has given me a reason to reorder or come back. I really only recommend this business as a place to take a short snack break, which isn't really why I originally came here. Not saying it's bad, it's just an average Taiwanese snack shop at this point. My Jin Xuan Oolong was freshly brewed and this had a pretty good mouth feel; bitter and aromatic, it drank easy. I got it with zero sugar and I liked it. 4/5 Their green milk tea tastes like GMT from any other mid level boba shop, but solid enough. 3/5 Pork chop w/ noodle soup: the pork was one of those pan-fried with light potato/tapioca starch coating so the texture is ass (imo I like the deep-fried ones, like popcorn chicken outer texture). It was oily and didn't have a good crust. The seasoning was light and the pork chop was too lean for this classic-style Taiwanese fast food. 2.5/5 Noodle soup had a lot of noodles, good for loading on carbs, actually a good amount of bok choy (2 whole pieces chopped into quarters. Really light soup, not a lot of minced pork on top, not so aromatic, but good at washing down the fried food. In my family, we call this the washing wok soup 洗鍋湯 (bone stock/water used to clean off the surface of your cooking apparatus for some flavor lmaoo) 3.5/5 Spicy wonton: not spicy. No chili oil/flakes, had preserved mustard that did not add anything except maybe ruin the wontons (really salty). Light sweet soy sauce (almost like soy sauce glaze) coating the wontons with seaweed shreds on top. Avoid, they don't know wtf they're doing with this. The wontons themselves were tasty but small. Embarrassing way to ruin wontons. 1/5 This place used to represent quality over Quickly's, Tapioca Express, etc., but that's a remnant of the past. If I'm spending $15 on an entree, I'd eat elsewhere. If I want a drink, maybe I might but there are lots of other places nowadays. Haven't been back here for over a decade. Drinks are still decent and better than crappy powder Lollicup-type of stores, but food is still well below average. Soup is flavorless white pepper water, noodles are soggy, and I think my pork chop was a day old, microwaved or reheated based on the taste.... Was craving Asian food while here. My coworkers and I frequently come to this plaza but I wasn't craving any of the fast-food places here. Randomly decided to check out Ten Ren and totally forgot they served food besides boba! Upon arriving, I had a whiff of a really strange smell- not sure if this is due to the food or bad hygiene but it was not a good smell. The server was patient as I was trying to choose food. There is a lot to choose from-- bentos, rice dishes, noodle dishes, and appetizers like popcorn chicken or fried fish balls. This place serves Taiwanese food and I decided to get the Braised Pork with Egg on Rice. Honestly this was quite good. The pork was marinated well and the Taiwanese egg was chef-kissed. There was so much sauce so the rice soaked up every bit of it. The pickled greens were a nice touch with the sweet pork. Also because I ordered to-go, I was shocked that we get a free reusable bag! Didn't know they did that so that was nice. It is a bit pricey now since inflation, but for quick Asian cravings, it definitely hit the spot. Came here for their Brick Toast and turned out satisfied. The trainee welcomed us warmly and let us seated. I had special request on the toast (half butter & half Nutella) which was graciously accommodated. The plum green tea was really nice. Though the Pop Corn Chicken was not as usual taste. It looks like deep fried on the oil that has been used thousand times, you can see the color is a little bit darker and taste was awful as well. TenRen has some of the best sides I've had. I LOVE their popping fish balls, by far the best fry, and the best seasoning out of all other places that serve the same menu item. I do enjoy their drinks as well, but I feel that it is more hit or miss. Sometimes, their tea is a bit too bitter for my taste, while other times, it's the perfect balance. Have been here several times throughout the years and the food is still good. Had the popcorn chicken snack, the braised pork with rice, and a green tea milk tea. Everything was as I remembered from the last time - except prices. Inflation has definitely hit, but there are still items I would get because I can only get them here and they make it well. This location is smaller than the one on Valley and Lemon, but still has seating and since it's in the Village, it's nice to grab your food and eat outside. Service was fine and they give you everything in a cool, reusable bag. I'd rather have lower prices and a paper bag, but the bag is definitely nice and good quality. read more

Ten Ren is my go-to boba place. The drinks are always consistently good. I've been to their other locations but my first time here. It was busy when I came but service is fast, friendly & efficient. Located near Diamond Bar, I was surprised to see a Taiwanese Boba restaurant near me. The staff were pretty friendly and cooperative, and I will definitely be coming back here to try out their entrees such as their Taiwanese Sausage Rice. My total for a large Strawberry Icee drink came out to be around $7.67, with tax. I was a bit disappointed that the portion sizes are a little bit small for the drink. It was also quite busy when I went, so I wasn't able to get my drink as quickly as I wanted to. However the drink itself was delicious and there was plenty of ingredients in it. read more

For the longest time, I've always passed by Ten Ren's when coming to eat at nearby restaurants in The Village shopping center. That's why when I came in with a group of friends for milk tea, I was excited to give their drinks a try. Upon entering around 11:30AM, I noticed a few people sitting inside, chatting , and enjoying a variety of beverages. In all, the place seemed to be relaxed and a great social spot pick up food and drinks. Of the environment though, the best of all is that there was no line. With that, I was able to order a Strawberry Milk Icee for $7.07 after tax. My drink was easily made in about 5 minutes which allowed me to get in and out. As a side note, purchasing the Milk Icee allows you to select two toppings from the following three: boba, egg pudding, and soft grass jelly. For this experience, I ended up choosing boba and egg pudding. Another note, the cashier asked if I would like to have a regular or a large when ordering. Though not explicitly stated on the menu, there is an extra charge for the larger sizes. Be mindful of this when choosing a drink as these options do not seem to be mentioned beforehand. Taking a look at the drink, I first noticed how warm the bottom the cup was. I found this to be somewhat strange because the drink was supposed to be cold. But after finding out the boba were just recently cooked, it made more sense. From the bottom of the cup, all of the added on ingredients were added in layers. In order, I found the drink mixture to take up the most of the space (80%) followed by the boba (10%), the egg pudding (5%) and the strawberry jam (5%). In one cup, the items seemed to be presented in an elegant way. But because of the viscosity of the different items, the drink had a hard time creating cohesion for what should have been a strawberry blended beverage. In other words, the delicate egg pudding, what tasted like a thick strawberry jam, the firm boba, and the creamy milk-based mixture did not mix all too well. On the bright side, the drink lasted long and had a good price to portion ratio at the price of $6 before tax for this area. The faults in the taste have mainly to do with the lack of mixture. But on top of this, certain choices in ingredient made the drink taste too compartmentalized and not balanced enough. Beginning with what tasted like strawberry jam, the jam was given in clumps and were almost sugary sweet. This contrasted from the egg pudding that was more neutral and eggy on the mouth. And on top of this, the boba created a curved off deep taste that was less acidic than the jam or the pudding. And last the milk tea mixture itself tasted like sweetened milk at the top. Because of this, the taste of the drink fell flat from the baseline. I found this taste to be strange, especially since there were visual streaks of red strawberry throughout the top of the cup that I did not get to taste; it is possible a syrup was used instead. If I had to change one thing about this drink, I would say use a strawberry puree. This would dial back the sweetness and create a more condensed flavor profile. None of the ingredients tasted bad, they just did not really work together. On this topic, I would also be hesitant to classify this as an Icee due to the lack of ice present in the cup. From my first time at Ten Ren's Tea Time, I found my drink to be okay. And for the next time I drop by, I would consider getting something else. The drink was priced fairly, the amount of beverage was good, and the ratio of ingredients was also visually impressive. But because the drink felt stagnant and the amount of stark differences in the taste, I argue the Strawberry Milk Icee deserves a 3/5. In all, I'd say the drink was very chaotic and could more blend and less flavors on the broader spectrum. Not bad, is fine, could be better! read more
