Hubby & I have driven by Green Basil like a thousand times, always saying to ourselves that one of these days we will check it out. Well, today was that day! It is almost 100F outside today. So what to eat on a really hot day? Super spicy Thai food. We started with the chicken satay & it was one of the best we have ever tasted. Four skewers with the large pieces of chicken that were incredibly tender & seasoned beautifully with turmeric. It came with peanut & sweet cucumber sauces. We added some hot chili oil to the peanut sauce & it was delicious. Hubby ordered the Drunken Noodles with chicken & asked for it to be spicy. Yup! It sure was... he didn't even add any hot sauce to the dish. I ordered one of the house specialties: Green Basil Special with ground chicken & no green peppers. It totally took me back to my visit to Thailand years ago. We will definitely be back - we want to try the Thai sausage, green papaya salad, Kow Piek, pad Thai & any of the curry dishes. read more

Pretty good thai restaurant! Did not know what to expect because a relative chose this place to meet but I was surprised when I walked in, at the neat decor and updated dining space. I was expecting a very basic place but that wasn't the case. There weren't that many diners on this cold sunday evening but takeout calls were constant. Anyways, we quickly ordered since we knew what we wanted beforehand, barely even looking at the menu. Duck Noodle Soup and Fiery Pad Thai. They came out great! Nice color and textures, a generous portion, both flavorful and fulfilling and presented nicely. Service was quick and accommodating. I enjoy Thai food, but sometimes it can be pretty bland if I don't go to the right place, but this is the best Thai food I've had! We ordered the fried pork dumplings, wonton and tom yum soup, seafood curry, and duck choo chee. The dumplings were differently shaped than what is typical, but they were sooo yummy with the dipping sauce. The soups were fresh, and the curries were super flavorful. To be honest we had not had food from Green Basil since it opened. Yet we thought we should revisit it as we are doing the rounds supporting our local business during the COVID19 crisis. The food was delivered on schedule, but that is the only positive thing worth mentioning. The food was lukewarm and was not very appealing. Had added shrimp as an option to the chicken drunken noodle dish and yet not much chicken was in the dish with the few shrimp they added. I have gone to numerous restaurants throughout the US and abroad and I never experienced what I did today on a business lunch in North Providence, RI at this restaurant which was my first time dining in here. I did get a delivery 2 years ago and the food was not correct to the menu as was my experience today. I never write reviews but this time I can't just let this one go. I ordered the Pad Thai then told the waitress I wanted the Fiery within seconds of ordering, Which as you can see on the attached menu is the Pad Thai but spicy. When she brought the dish out it was the Drunken Noodles. It wasn't Pad Thai there were no peanuts or scallions and it had the wide noodles and vegetables in the Drunken Noodles description. I asked to have it remade and she argued with me that they wouldn't and I got what was ordered and would have to pay that it was the Fiery Pad Thai. I have had Pad Thai numerous times and this was clearly not. She said to just eat pay and go. It seems the chef doesn't know the menu very well and this is a "Thai" restaurant? She continued to yell that no one has ever complained. But if you read the reviews there are numerous complaints and also about how they serve you something completely different than what you ordered and their rudeness. I couldn't believe the way the waitress argued with me. I ate half of the order since I paid for it and left. I was embarrassed and upset as a customer. I called back when I got home to discuss this with her because I didn't want to talk with her at the restaurant anymore. She continued to yell and threatened to call the police on me? Really that is how you handle your mistakes in the kitchen and don't admit you are wrong and then threaten your customers? She should have offered to either give me a refund or replace the dish to the description in the menu. I would be careful going there. They don't serve you what is on the menu and then threaten you. I've never seen such rude service. Obviously they are hurting for business as I was the only customer there at 1:30 p.m. dining in, although there were a couple of pick up orders while I was there. Very disturbing experience and hopefully the North Providence police don't come knocking on my door! read more

Buttttt seeing as I wasn't a very experienced Thai eater and they were still getting things together I held off on my review. Fast forward a couple years and here we are. I enjoy every curry dish they offer and their noodles are tasty. The fried apps arent a step above the rest but no complaints here. My biggest complaint would be the prices on their menu dont match what you get charged for, at least not on their drink menu. When it was brought up they comped the difference. read more

The food is fairly good. I ordered a Thai iced tea without sugar, and they put sugar in it, which is OK unless you have diabetes, I guess. One woman is very nice and attentive. But there's another one who ignores you and then kind of eventually acknowledges your existence. Might wanna work on training the staff. read more

One of the most authentic Thai restaurant in North Providence. I ordered the chicken spring rolls, papaya salad, chicken fried rice and chicken drunken noodle. All of the dishes came out delicious and very spicy! If you like your papaya salad very spicy, I recommend ordering it the "Lao" style! That level is out of this world hot hot hot baby! This place is such a hidden gem! The service was awesome, the family that owns this place is so nice and the food was beyond delicious! We usually go to Jacky's Galaxy for pad Thai, curry, and nim chow- but now that I know Green Basil is a little further down the road I'll be coming here instead!! My only "complaint" which isn't even a complaint because I still loved it- was the nim chow isn't authentic to how I recall it to be. The sauce was more like duck sauce with nuts instead of the clear rice vinegar and fish sauce and peanuts that I'm used to! Still however it was very good! I appreciate their style! We got the crab Rangoon to start and we all couldn't believe how good it was! The sauce was amazing and the crispy texture wasn't overburdened by oil like it can be at other places! I ordered the Khao Soi and with each bite my tastebuds sang. I couldn't get over how unbelievably delicious this dish was. My friend got the pad Thai and WOW so so good. After eating none of us felt bloated or tired. We felt really good which is a pleasant change from how I usually feel from eating processed Asian food from other places like jacky's or Asia grille. I always crave Thai food, wherever I go. Conveniently, Green Basil was on the way to one of my destinations in North Providence. There is a small private parking area available, with more in the back, I believe. Easy to park. The restaurant is decorated with light sea-foam green throughout, which is relaxing. However, the restaurant has been empty the times I have been here. Somewhat stale atmosphere. FOOD: Great menu. Made quickly for dine-in, not sure how long it takes for delivery. Pork Massaman Curry (3/5, Peanuts, potatoes, onion, peppers, and carrots): This is a Southern Thai dish. Usually Massaman Curry is more like Indian Curry, with dry spices for seasoning. This is not the best one I have tried, for it was lacking it something. In addition, I wasn't a big fan of the peanuts in this dish. Maybe if it was crushed like the ones served in Pad Thai, it would have been better. I wasn't that impressed with this dish. Portion was more than enough, so I took half of it to take home for lunch the next day. I couldn't finish it the next day though, not sure what it was but had to throw it away after a few bites. Green Basil Special (5/5, Ground beef, chicken or pork, stir fried with authentic basil sauce, fresh chili, mushroom, pepper, and basil leaves served with Thai-styled fried egg): AKA Pad Kra Prow! Delicious stir fry with basil!! I was eyeing this, while eyeing the Drunken Noodles, which I have tried at several Thai restaurants. I am so glad I decided to go with a dish I have never tried. I recommend this if you are not sure what to order. You have three meat options of ground beef, chicken, or pork. I decided to go with the first option, and it was just perfect for my taste buds. It wasn't spicy for me, but there is a spicy level next to it on the menu so beware of that. Lunch portion was grand, but I finished it one seating because it was so good. Service was just decent. For both of my visits here, the waitress brought the water re-filler after my water was rock bottom. I, the only diner at the time, had to ask for more water, so the waitress brought the bottle of water afterwards. It would be wise if the bottle was brought with the entree, just saying. On another note, I love that the water is infused with lemon - just the right amount. They offer takeout and delivery! Overall, I am a fan! You can choose your protein and I chose chicken. It is served over glass noodles and veggies. Huge order and took home almost half for my lunch tomorrow. Located in Centredale right on Mineral Springs Ave. plenty of parking. They seem to do a brisk take out business. They also have a small full service bar. I've wanted to try Green Basil for a while, and today was the day! We ordered two lunch specials for takeout. The food was ready quickly and we picked it up from a window on the side of the building. My husband's cashew chicken was very fresh. The peppers were bright in color and cooked perfectly. My pad thai was good and enough for two lunches. However, we both thought that the dishes were a bit bland. We will definitely give it another try, but we were disappointed in the level of flavor. The best kept secret in RI. This place needs more love they are some of the most authentic and Asian food in the area. There's not too many restaurants that make better kaw piek but Green Basil has one of the best in the state and I can put them up against anybody. This place is blocks from my house and this is my first time here. I'm glad I stopped by. They have a nice clean setup with somewhat of an awkward entry way. I ordered their chicken with ginger sauce. Their is a section that has lunch as well as dinner portions. Their sauces include peanut and garlic sauce. I'll try those another time. Solid Thai restaurant, with excellent food. Don't let some of the comments in other reviews put you off trying this. It's not fancy or trendy as far as the interior, but there's heart here - lots of it. The food is cooked with passion, and the family that runs Green Basil is lovely. Get the Brussels sprouts appetizer for a unique approach to sprouts that is savory with a little hint of sweetness. Really delicious. I also like the house fried peanuts with lemongrass, which is another unusual appetizer. It goes great with the sprouts, by the way. My wife and I have had many Massaman curries in many Thai restaurants, and I'd put Green Basil's near the top. It's a perfect balance of heat and creaminess and prepared expertly. My absolute favorite dish is the House Special, Chef Kong's pork. Wow! Thin cut fried pork chops served with steamed vegetables and the amazing and very spicy roasted peppers sauce. Crispy, super flavorful pork and that sauce are a dish to travel out of your way here for. The portions of all the dishes here is generous, which to me reflects the spirit of the owner and chef.
