So glad I found this place through friends. Such a better alternative to Roti and Chipotle. Better quality, fresher food, but same concept as Roti and Chipotle, you start with a plate or sandwich or salad, choose your meat and other toppings. Great Greek food, fresh ingredients, good amount of meat and yummy pita bread. Chicken kabob and steak are delicious. Egg lemon soup is also good but overly lemon-y on the day I first tried it. Staff is hit or miss, some are friendly, some barely speak English, others are in a hurry to get you through the mad rush assembly line that happens during lunch. Even if the line is long, which it usually is, it moves pretty fast. Pretty large seating area for a place in the Loop. A plate will run you about $9. I'm a fan and will be back. read more

I love Greek food. I grew up with Greek neighbors and spent many an evening and holiday (Greek Easter!) at their place, enjoying incredible food. When I moved to Chicago back in 1996 I was thrilled to discover a string of nice restaurant and cheap eateries in Greek Town. It is the one part of the city I travel to more than any other for food. And the other day I had a hankering for some gyros, but I had a short lunch break and walking to Greek Town was out of the question. A quick Google search turned up GRK Greek Kitchen, so I thought I would check it out. Now, I will say, that the food was decent. It was not great, but it was not bad, either. I was a bit disappointed that they did not have on the menu a ready to order gyros plate. This is one of those places where you pick your dish, first your base (such as rice or pasta), then your meat, then your toppings. And that is fine. In fact, that is pretty spiffy as it allows easy customization of dishes. But, I would expect any Greek place to have a gyros plate option on the menu. That is not too much to ask, I think. I ended up just getting gyros meat (a bit on the dry side) with onions, olives, and feta cheese. As a side I got Greek fries and a pita. I had to pay for the pita. It did not come with the dish. And when the young lady was preparing the fries she could not find the lemon juice and instead of saying anything to me about it just closed the container and passed it over to the cashier. Yeah, not good customer service. At least apologize for not having the lemon juice. Also, no tzatziki was included. Apparently in this Greek place if you order gyros you have to ask for tzatziki sauce. What is up with that? The fries were really good, despite no lemon juice. Everything else was decidedly average. And that is OK. I am fine with average food. But not at nearly $14. Granted, the Greek fries were $3.50, or something like that, but still, nearly $14 for an average lunch? Not cool, bro. In closing I will say that I did stay up almost all night thinking about this lunch experience, most of which time was spent on the toilet, contemplating the unpleasantness of a lunch that goes right through you and spends more time coming out the back side than it did going in through the entrance. Everything I have eaten in the past three days was stuff I eat all the time. This was the only thing new to my diet these past few days and my body wanted nothing to do with it. I will NOT be repeating. If you are close enough to go here do yourself a favor and take the time to walk over to Greek Town and get something better. Oh, one last thing. Within minutes of having paid (with my debit card) I got an email from some company called SpringRewards, informing me that my account was credited for the cost of my lunch, as part of some rewards program. This was disturbing as I have never signed up for SpringRewards, have never given them my email address, and did not give my email address to the cashier at this place. Got a gyro sandwich, played it safe being my first time here. Asked for Tahini sauce and got the last misty pump of the bottle, which the worker decided wasn't worth filling up for my sandwich. Wrapped it up before I could even ask for more sauce on my sandwich. Got to the register and asked for more on the side. They insisted and I mean insisted on charging me extra, I even told him to open my sandwich and look for himself, he still refused. Rather not pay extra to get something I'm already paying for. In a word, bland. Life's too short to eat bland food. Med Kitchen's arrival to the scene is like the mean younger brother to Roti. Only it's not as sexy. Everything had no flavor. The chicken, the rice, the feta cheese, the yogurt. Bland. All bland. How can you throw that much on a plate and not have any flavor? I went with a chicken kabob plate. Big mistake. I almost speared myself twice trying to get the damn chicken off the skewers. It's like they were glued on. These weren't very lunch friendly as I needed a mountain of napkins when I was done to clean up the mess I made. I'm not sure why they don't take the chicken off the skewers prior to serving. In the end the only thing I partially enjoyed was the pita bread. But Med Kitchen follows the basic rule for lunch success in the loop. Unfortunately, it's speed and delivery that make it shine. Yet another place to add to my lunch rotation! This place is kind of like the Chipotle of the Mediterranean Food world. You choose a sandwich or plate, a filling and then toppings. The steak is good, I like however they prepare it and whatever marinate that they use. It has a good flavor to it. I just wish they would chop it up a little instead of leaving it in large strips. It's not easy to eat those in a sandwich, I usually have to use a fork. You can have fries in your sandwich which I tried once. Not bad at all. I always go for olives (it's an addiction) and the lettuce is nice and fresh. Of the sauces I've only had the tzatziki and it's good. I tried the falafal and that's just ok. Not the best I've had but also not the worst. I want to try to dolmades... they're on my list. Since there are so many options I'll be sure to be back soon to sample the rest of the menu. read more

Wow. Med Kitchen is very good and will be giving Taza a run for its money. The pita is full of meat, great onions (great), and other veggies, and on top of that comes an amazing sauce. This all for under $8. I also like to do the weight test when I pickup lunch to-go. The test where you kind of feel the weight of your lunch bag and this bag weighed just trust. Overwhelming selection made it a little difficult to order something... and I'm still not entirely sure what on the menu is a side, as opposed to filling in a wrap... but whatever I ended up with tasted good. What I ended up with was a gyro wrap (lamb) with... more or less everything in it. I think I asked for pickled something-or-other, baba ghanoush, red cabbage, tzatziki sauce and maybe falafel. It ran about $7. It wasn't spectacular, but the wrap was light and the gyro tasty. The many, many flavors within complemented each other pretty well, and overall I think it's a good deal. GRK isn't the first place I'd go to in the loop for Mediterranean food, but it's certainly not a bad choice. read more

Another great lunch spot in the Loop! I was actually walking to another restaurant when I discovered GRK. The restaurant had great curb appeal, so I decided to give it a shot. I tried the white bean tomato soup and lamb on a wheat pita. The soup was flavorful and a perfect way to warm up on a chilly day. The lamb pita, which I had them load up with all of the possible toppings, was filling and delicious. I left GRK full and feeling as if I made a somewhat healthy choice. I come here at least once a week for lunch. You can't beat this place. I usually get the chicken kabob plate with rice, hummus and tomatoes. It is delicious and pretty cheap. I get a small glass of water and I usually don't refill it. I feel you get a lot with the plates for your buck. The staff is very friendly. There is not a lot of options but the food is so good. Gyros platter is also pretty good, want to try the salads one day. It's super quick and super tasty. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the loop. read more

I decided to check out Med Kitchen at lunch today because I am about to give up meat for a couple of months and thought I could see how good their veggie options are as well as have some gyro meat before Lent. I liked this place enough but I agree that some of their food is quite bland. Like: the gyro meat. Although it seemed a bit dry (they don't slice it right off the revolving skewer thing even though they display it that way for show), it was quite tasty and not too fatty. Rice was fluffy and light, and seasoned well but not too salty. The ambiance/venue was as many described- like a Greek version of Chipotle. Sterile, fast food-like but clean and pleasant. Overall, I felt like this was a 'healthy' lunch alternative whether it was true or not. Dislike: everything else was rather bland. The cucumber/tomato salad had no apparent seasoning and it seemed dry. The hummus was probably the most bland I've ever had. The yogurt sauce was also bland. The bill came out to be $10+ with a drink. Not expensive, but not cheap for what it is. Still, I gave it 3 stars because there's nothing that objectionable about it and it's relatively close to my office so I'll try it again when I'm in the mood for something other than the usual (lunch) suspects. read more

For a downtown lunch spot, Med Kitchen is a pretty safe bet. I usually always go with the Greek salad with chicken kabob as my meat option. I get it so often I usually don't have to order, as the staff know what I like. I also appreciate that the salad comes with a warm pita to soak up all the vinaigrette dressing at the end. The reason this is not 5 stars is that the line during the lunch rush tends to reach to the door and the ordering line is a little chaotic. Have you ever eaten in a place that was soooooo bad that you felt you had to give it another try......because it couldn't have actually been that bad. Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to Med Kitchen Med Kitchen is near where I work so I thought they might have amazing fresh pitas that would be stuffed full of fresh vegetables etc. Nope, welcome to the Loop buffet station where everything was cooked that morning - 3 hours before anyone orders it. I thought I could get a warm pita stuffed with fresh Chicken, mayo and fries and instead I got something that looked like King Kongs condom stuffed with cold fries cooked 30 minutes earlier. The Pita wasn't even warmed before putting any of the fillings into it. I ate less than half of it and threw out the rest. I went to Med Kitchen again today to see if it would be any better. I walked into the restaurant and it was completely empty. Walked to the counter to see all the food still left over from the lunch rush still in the famous buffet station. Old cold fries were still in the fryer basket so I turned and walked out. I really hope this place improves and gets the basics right. read more

So the office ordered lunch from here today. Grk is generally a very reliable restaurant. They deliver on time which is appreciated. I ordered the Greek salad with chicken and it comes with a pita. It was good but not great. I wish there was more feta and the salad came in a plastic container that was good for tossing the salad. That's a beef I have with lunch salads....they are impossible to toss. One ends up eating each veg at the same time as opposed to evenly. A real negative that I have for this meal is that I found an olive pit in my salad. That could have really damaged my teeth. read more

Really wanted a steak wrap, but for $1.50 more, I wasn't willing to pay close to $9... maybe when I feel more indulgent. Tried the gyro's instead, with everything on the classic pita. Pita is toasted lightly, giving it a toothsome chew. Thinly sliced pickles, along with some of the nice slaw mixture, some tzazki sauce, olives, thinly sliced onions topped of the food. Fresh veggies and tasty. The gyro meat was already pre sliced and pulled from a prep container. Was seasoned nicely, and while not perfectly tender, wasn't overcooked either. Just under $7 for a pretty filling gyro sandwich... Tasty, fast, and enjoyable, but from a price standpoint, Greektown offers much more and more tender gyro meat for the same price. Verdict: Enjoyable, fast, and fresh veggie ingredients are wins here. The price, unfortunately, is in line with Chicago food... slightly over priced likely due to rent at the location. My company regularly has GRK as a seamless lunch option. usually order the same thing - Greek salad w/ spit fired rotisserie chicken. Normally I'd rate this place a three (the Greek dressing is all vegetable oil, I usually dump most of the oil out before shaking it with the vinegar and spices). Tried changing it up today with a spinach salad and Skirt steak w/ greek dressing. The steak looked gray and spongy, tasted like dog food. I ate one piece, started chewing the next and spit it out. Really nasty. Also, the dressing was so salty I couldn't eat the salad portion. Like "I'm going to have a heart attack or bloat three sizes" kinda salty. My two stars is an average of my usual experience and this last one (1 star). read more

I just moved to Chicago recently and work around the West Loop downtown. It's possible that lunch in this part of town is like an all-out war and you have to have the patience of a monk to stand in most of the lines. Needless to say, one of the days I decided I was waiting for GRK come hell or high water. It was worth the wait. I love greek food, and while I wouldn't call this place "traditional", it was definitely a great stand-in. I got the greek salad with chicken kabob on top. I highly recommend it! My only complaint... the sides or "extras" are pricey. I got a SMALL (emphasize, small) cup of rice pudding to-go which couldn't have amounted to more than 2-3 ounces, and it was almost $3. It just seemed outrageous and it didn't blow me away. Otherwise, when I feel like fighting the crowds for a gyro during a downtown lunch workday, GRK will be top of my list. read more

I stopped in here the other day to grab some B-fast to go. A new b-fast place on my walk to work? Yay! I have to say, I was very happy with the taste of my feta, tomato and spinach egg wrap. I love that you are able to choose between the Lebanese bread and a pita, since pitas are generally too "bready" for me. My only complaint was that I wished there was more spinach on it. I ordered delivery to our office for 13 people. We had our order in by 10 for an 11:30 delivery- food arrived early at about 11:10. GRK is only two blocks away from us but it was basically 0 degrees outside...nice to have delivery for an option. 4 stars given the overwhelmingly positive reaction for the office. Even the pickiest eaters were satisfied- GRK has a ton of customizable items and they got our entire order correct! They were great about separating and labeling each person's order so there wouldn't be any confusion. If you do an online order on Zuppler and register, you get 10% off your first order. Just finished eating a huge, delicious plate of food from here. The protons are generous. Rice is underseasoned but that's what all the sauce and cheese is for. The pita I got was as big as my head. Reading some previous reviews I was worried about being charged extra for toppings, but I wasn't. I received modest amount of onions, veggies, olives, lettuce and cheese all for under $9. The food is good, but the system used to serve it is not so good. The first thing that I noticed at this place was how confusing the menu structure is. Most places have simple lunches or dinners grouped so that you can go up to the counter, say what you want, and take care of a few details, and you are done. This is a greek Chipotle wannabe and, I am sad to say, if you can get over the system used to order the food, then you may like the place. For example, I wanted a Gyros sandwich - a fairly standard item in most greek places - and told the guy what I wanted. (The menu demands that you ask for a wrap or a plate - how am I supposed to know what is best for what I want without talking at length with them, and this is at a busy lunchtime) He did his best, but he was overgenerous on the veggies and miserly on the meat. Bottom line, I was confused and had to watch like a hawk since they were integrating phone orders with the in person orders and that made me nervous. (Ever go to a new place where you don't know what to order and then you end up getting someone else's order?) I had the hummus as a side and found it a bit runny - not having enough substance. Maybe I am being too harsh, but with Haifa Cafe around the corner and providing personalized service for exactly what I want, I probably will not return here. I also think the way they have their menu constructed is too confusing. You end up asking for something you think should be included but find it is a side and costs extra. Average gyro but fantastic space; if you show up at 11:30 or well after the lunch hour, you should be able to score one of the booths along the wall and hang for a while without that feeling you get when someone breathes on you from the table just six inches from you at Roti, Naf Naf or other Greek/Mediterranean spots in the Loop. I dropped $7.50 for my gyro and it was not nearly as good as the $6 I spend at Falafel & Grill or Niko's, and there wasn't nearly as much meat (maybe that's a good thing, but I'm not eating gyros to be healthy). Not worth going back but for having a casual meeting/lunch with colleagues, it's hard to beat this space in this 'hood. read more

Basically the price is to too high for the quality of food. If you like low quality food there are other places that offer it at a lower prices. Also the menu board is confusing withe prices not clearly indicated. Nice way to confuse people into the line. By the time you get to the till and you find out you the price most people will just pay to get the experience over and done with. That is really sneaky. Also the image they want the establishment to portray is one of modern sophistication. Unfortunately the staff are unhelpful, rude and unprofessional. For those of you unable to understand how reviews work, the average star rating for a company is irrelevant. That's because there are lots of fake reviews on here by the business giving 5 stars. What you have to do is look at how many bad reviews a place has. Good places will only have a few. Bad places will obviously have many. read more

Just when I thought I had tried all the Mediterranean joints around work, we had a late holiday lunch here. I got a plate of the greek sausages, but with a chicken kabob in addition to it along with the tomato and cucumber salad and orzo. Don't ask how I can eat so much food. Yep, I even had some baklava afterwards. The sauce options seemed limited and the spicy sauce was like the chinese seeded sauce that I add to some of my stir-fry dishes. I really want to come back and try the spinach pie and one of the wraps. I am a sauce and flavor person, so if that could be kicked up a notch I'd like it a little more. read more

My office has had food from Med Kitchen brought in for several office functions and I have enjoyed the food every single time. For our last function, we ordered the Greek salad, chicken, falafel, pita bread and hummus. The Greek salad is wonderful and has a good dressing and big chunks of Feta cheese. The chicken is seasoned perfectly and cut nicely as well and makes a great filler for the pita bread. I'm a big falafel fan and these falafels do not disappoint. They have a perfect crispy outside and the filing is delicious as well. Overall, totally worth having it catered to your office for any office function. read more
