Decided to stop in for the lunch buffet. The food was very limited, and included veg lo mein, pork fried rice, sesame chicken, general tsos chicken, chicken with garlic, and teriyaki chicken, along with a wonton soup with 3 wontons floating in the luke warm broth. In fact, all the food was luke warm, and some of the dishes were served on plastic wrap(see picture for reference). The dessert bar included canned peaches, canned pineapples, fortune cookies, nutty buddies, and Great Value brand oreo cookies. The lunch was $6, but i was charged a 17% mystery tax, for a total of $7.01. On the bright side, I was the only customer in the hour I was there, so I definitely received attention from the wait staff. read more

The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Medina, NY, is a gem. Their prices are reasonable in-house, but for the real discounts, order take-out or delivery. The a la carte menu items are priced competitively with larger chains, and even undercut some of the "budget" restaurants I have been to in the past. Their menu selection is amazing and diverse, and their portions exceed expectations. When you order a pint of sweet and sour pork, for instance, you get a pint, packed to the rafters, of pork. Their various meats, sauces, and rice dishes are fantastic, but the real jewel here is their combination/entree plates. The General Tso's Chicken plate varies from restaurant to restaurant. It can be phenomenally spicy, or bland as... well, boiled chicken. Great Wall Chinese Restaurant manages the PERFECT middle ground. With some slight variations to the dish each time (always a treat), they maintain a standard on the taste that surpasses those I've had in more "mainstream" locations. If you are in the Medina area, and have a hankering for Chinese food, this place is amazing. You will not be disappointed in what they have to offer. read more

Should have no stars! I've never gotten great food from the Great Wall, but after tonight I will NEVER go back to this place! This evening, I put in a to-go order, with no special requests, for two people and paid in advance (which turned out to be a huge mistake). Alright, so here's what went wrong... Shortly after I placed my order a friend of mine showed up who was dining in; so, I told the woman who took my order I'd be sitting with my friend until my order was ready. Naturally, she waves me off with a "fine, fine, fine", so no big deal, especially since we were sitting in plain view of the counter where orders are placed and picked up. Then, my friend ordered, at which point I remind the server that I am waiting for a to-go order. Next, my friend's food arrives, despite the fact that she ordered AFTER me. Now while we're sitting there I have seen about 5 people come in and get to-go orders, 2 of which I actually watched order AFTER me. My friend is basically watching her food get cold trying to be polite, but by this point I am annoyed, so I get up and ask the woman who took my order what is wrong. In response, she wanders into the back and returns with a man. While I'm standing there they bicker back and forth in Chinese, which OK is a little rude because it turns out he speaks English. I know this because he proceeds to tell me I have no receipt. WTF?!?! Obviously, I start fishing out my receipt, but the woman who took my order and my money finally says, "No, no, I know you have a receipt..." Well, duh, since you gave it to me. Alright, by this point I want to scream, but I grit my teeth and wait and wait and wait until a woman finally wanders out with my order. Now you would think they would probably throw in an extra egg roll based on how long I had to wait or, at the very least, apologize, but NO! I didn't even get a "we're sorry for the wait". As one would expect, I leave angry, but the nightmare isn't over yet. The order I waited an obscene amount of time for is WRONG. Maybe I could overlook the long wait, the rudeness, and even getting the order wrong if the food was fabulous, but most of it was awful, while the rest was mediocre. For example, the dish I ordered with garlic sauce wasn't merely bland, it was tasteless. I'm actually curious about how they managed to remove all the flavor from the food. Honestly, I cannot think of one charitable thing to say about the Great Wall; it was a nightmare from start to finish. Rude, slow, and inaccurate, plus bad food, they really are the whole package. This place has gone rapidly down hill. G saos chicken is not edible. Can't swallow the overcooked crap that is apparent after the sweet (not spicy as advertised) sauce dissipates. Good food but don't get delivery. Twice it arrived more than 2 hours after order. We live 15 minutes away. Called after 2 hours and the manager said the driver was caught up with other customers, but he was in our town. He lied. The driver arrived 30 minutes later and confirmed that they just rushed the order out. So again, good food but dishonest management. Wonder what else they are dishonest about. read more

Despite the few terrible reviews, I ordered Generals Tso's chicken combo takeout for lunch and it was ready when i arrived in 10 minutes and it tasted great. It was exactly what i was craving. read more

This place was HORRIBLE. Went with my family after an art show a couple doors down and we're severely disappointed. The store was dirty and looked like it had been left to fall apart a few years ago. A teenage girl didn't show us to our seats, but asked us awkwardly if we wanted to order or go to the buffet. We decided on the buffet and she literally said "okay" and that was that, aside from getting our drinks. So we pick a seat and it was falling apart. It squeaked and stunk and the tables were too high for the seats. We go up to the buffet counter and only half is lit up and has barely any food in each container. We got the food anyway. Worst. Idea. Yet. The food was room temperature at its warmest. My chicken had a bit of a crunch and the sugar donuts were stale. So was my fortune cookie! And that's wrapped up! All in all I ate a bite of my sesame chicken, a bite of General Tso and a bite of rice. Which, I never thought you could mess up rice. But, I guess you learn something new every day. We were all going to complain but every adult in the building stayed in the back, letting their kids run around the front doing whatever they wanted. Their delivery is generally pretty fast, but ordering over the phone can be a pretty big hassle as they don't speak English that well. The food is decent, but I have never gotten anything but delivery from here so I do not know what the buffet situation is like. They arent very nice when they come to the door, which is the normal situation when ordering from a buffet. read more

I think this place is under new management because the food has shown a huge, marked improvement! We ordered takeout and it was ready on time and still hot when we got home! If you haven't tried it in a while you might want to give it another shot. We were to the point that we only ate there as a last resort but now it's one of our first choices. read more
