The buffet has a variety of dishes and everything is good. I have tried other Chinese restaurants in the area and don't even come close to this buffet. I try to visit at least once a month. When I have family visiting, they always want me to take them to this restaurant. Yes, I'm on the fence here with 3 stars, but I'm sure I'll go back some day as China Chef is a convenient halfway place for lunch between me in Buffalo and my friend Frank in Rochester. Friends for almost 60 years, we are both Chinese buffet addicts. This is a small eatery, tucked away in a corner of a strip mall. Two hot tables and one cold table, plus an ice cream chest, however, provide a nice variety of typical Chinese buffet items. This includes a sushi selection and two soups: hot and sour, and wonton. I had the hot and sour soup and it was quite good, meatless, but hot enough and sour enough. Service was good. We were greeted when we came in, post-lunch. The manager (I think owner) was most solicitous during our visit, making sure we had everything we needed. Next time we meet here for lunch, we'll make a point of arriving earlier, perhaps just before the lunch crowd. Everything will be hotter and fresher then, I expect. read more

Came on Xmas day. First off, there's no buffet, and hasn't been for nearly 4 yrs. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The guy taking our order checked and made sure we knew and.werenok with onions in the rice as well as other menu items. I feel bad, bc some Karens must have complained so they felt they had to do that, but cool if you have sensitivities and need to ask about ingredients in a menu item. The food was decent. Standard Americanized Chinese buffet food- tasty, flavourful, adequate, not a gourmet meal, but nothing subpar or remotely regrettable. The general tso needed more garlic; it was almost sweet and sour chicken. The dumplings are tasty, with a good standard dumpling sauce, but they are super thick. Im used to a thinner potsticker. Fried rice was a.bit bland. Added some dumpling sauce..problem solved. egg rolls were crispy and good. It was also cheap. It was like $35 for 3 entrees and an app. They also have coffee and tea.l drinks( guessing from a mix) and bobas. We will definitely be back when we need a meal after hiking in the nearby nature preserve. read more

The favourite band of the owner of this Batavia Chinese place is "China Chef Leppard", but he also likes the "Cheftones" and anyone signed to "Chef Jam Records." Also a big fan of "Jazzy Chef and the Fresh Spring Rolls." This was a very average shrimp curry. The place has excellent prices, and is located right next to a wonderful little Mexican grocery store with all kinds of goodies in it. The Shrimp Curry didn't do much for me, but it also wasn't bad. It wasn't spicy, even though I asked for extra extra spicy, and had too many veggies in it, but they make a good effort and provide typical Chinese-American food for the people of Bat Aviation, so for that, I am grateful, and will give them a generous 4 stars, especially since their prices are so generous. read more

Staff was very nice over the phone as well as in person and provided clear answers to all questions. I was approached and helped automatically when coming into the restaurant, a small calm and respectful atmosphere. Food was ordered and done in a timely manner, I ordered 5 combos and it only took them about 10 minutes to prepare my order even though they going to close in 30 minutes. Took me 30 minutes to drive home and food was still nice and warm when I got home. Food tasted good, pork fried rice and chicken lo mein were nice and soft. Pork egg rolls nice and crispy, they also made sure they asked if I wanted any sauce or silverware before I left. I got the sugar donuts and they were perfect not too sugary, portion sizes were good and gets you full quickly I ate my meal in three different sittings, and prices weren't bad about 35$ for 5 combos. You get quite a bit of food for the money but I'd rather go to Panda or Yume here in Batavia. The staff was friendly, but the food was ehh. The crab Rangoon was good, the wontons were a little overcooked, and the chicken I got, I had to throw out. Which is pretty rare for me even if I don't like something I refuse to waste food but... I ordered the crab cheese, a pork egg roll, chicken lo mein and the hot and spicy shrimp with white rice and was over charged a bit. My math of $9.50+$1.20+$3.95 put me at $14.65 and my card was charged $21.87... for a pint of the lo mein.. the lo mein was a bit more bland than I expected but edible. The egg roll was kinda bland too... the shrimp dish was amazing and the rice was sticky perfect for the shrimp sauce..the crab cheese had a very strong cream cheese flavor but were cutely prepared. Staff spoke amazing English and were polite. Other than a few small things. Once this place reopens the buffet I'm hoping the servers are better at remembering the price of items vs the cashier. read more

This is one of the best places in the whole Buffalo area to get some great quality and extremely authentic Americanized Chinese food. The older young man behind the computer screen was extremely kind and courteous, he helped my elderly mother find her favorite cuisines and sat her back down at the table. First, don't order Pepper Chicken expecting to get peppery chicken. I got Chicken with Bell Peppers and Onions when I wanted peppery chicken. Was not good at all. Probably the worst Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Visited on a Friday, there was literally no selection. The pork fried rice fresh from the kitchen had 2 tiny pieces of pork in it. One of the 'soups' was literally just rice in water. Disgusting. No soup noodles to be found, no green onions, and the wonton soup desperately needed some flavor because it was like water. And the staff never came by to clear tables or refill drinks. Desserts had clearly been sitting all day, Jello was solidified and stuck to the bottom of the pan. Buses came through like crazy, those people will eat anything I guess because they seemed to like it here. Will not be back. The best thing about this place was the tasty salt on the food. I did get a kick out of the kid playing video games with the volume jacked up behind the buffet. And the sesame chicken without any sesame was quite an ingenuous twist. But the most entertaining part of the evening had to be peeling back of the "film" layer present all of the sauces and dressings....soooo appetizing! In all seriousness I'll be lucky if I'm not sick by this evening. It was evident that the food had sat on the buffet for quite some time. There did not appear to be any pride in the food whatsoever. For a small town "chinese" resteraunt China Chef Buffet is not all that bad. Most of the food is pretty good. One of the best/worst experiences I had was recently when I ordered a lunch special to go. I noticed something didn't taste particularly right, when i got it. As someone who works in the food industry, as well, I felt it was my responsibility to inform China Chef Buffet of this, for the sake of future customers who may not be as pleasant as myself.Unlike many resteruants who would have ignored me or argued with me, the woman I spoke to listened patiently and addressed the issue. Not only did she find a solution to my problem but she also offered me something extra for no additional charge. Every other time I have ordered from them, my food has been delicious. Got our normal favorites and was not disappointed! Delivery was quick and friendly. For the price we paid it was enough food for 2 meals. This place was very good. Came here and was surprised to see the small selection of food on the buffet. Was greeted by a friendly and supportive staff that actually helped us with getting what we wanted. Ate here with the others. This place was better than the other restaurants that I had been to in this city. Food was freshly cooked and had an exquisite taste. I had no problems with it and liked it. It was pretty refreshing to taste something new that the other restaurants didn't have. Three buses came in, filling the whole entire dining area, from the right side booths to the left side booths. I was frankly surprised by how many people were here! Such a small family that tends this area that has been over a decade. They have put a lot of hard work into this place. Despite the buses taking away a majority of the buffet, they were refilled in a quick way. I appreciated their concern for the other customers here. The little boy that had been playing games a decade ago, has opened up to a friendly boy. He's grown up so much that it actually shocks me. He's become a gentleman who cares for others and doesn't want to disturb them. Sure, the other comments say this place was either dull or lacking a lot. I disagree. Things can change over time, and you should probably give it another shot. A lot of people that I ate alongside with said it was great. The buffet and take out here were great. Freshly cooked food with great taste. The delivery could be said the same. I rate this place a 5/5 since the family that tends this place is very caring and wants to have the best experience for others. Made the mistake of going here for lunch. I will NEVER set foot in that establishment again!! Half the food on the buffet was cold, wonton soup was tasteless, other food was marginal at best. Some tasted days old. The soda had mold both inside the bottom of the glass and on the outside. Walked into the bathroom and walked right out, too disgusting to set foot in there.
