I'm giving this 2 stars only to be kind. Loved this restaurant but no more. New owners, new recipes. We ordered complete dinners, Szechwan pork & Kun pao beef. Soup came with appetizer dish on top of it and placed on our dinner plate. We have to use that plate for our main meal, not good. Then the soup bowls were left on our dish, we had to take the appetizer off and put it to the side. People please learn how to serve your customers. Our appetizers were just lukewarm, my soup was wrong. I love hot&sour soup. This one had no flavor, tasted like egg flower soup :(. Then our meals came. Kun pao should be spicy, it was sweet. I asked server, her response was that's the recipe, OK. Wrong answer. Then why does the menu have a chili next to it which means " hot & spicy". My pork dish was spicy, surprise, no chili next to it on menu. Just one more serving suggestion to restaurants. Do not bring a cart with dirty dishes down the isles to clear other tables. Not the thing I want to see when I'm eating. It's doesn't take that much time to hand carry dishes to the back, even if u have to make 2 trips. read more

I have eaten here since I moved here. In my opinion it is the best Chinese restaurant in Lancaster. The staff are friendly and the food is good. I will not be coming back here! To start off, my order was wrong. The food was horrible. The rice was hard and BARELY warm. We sent it back to be corrected and warmed. Always scared to do that because I feel they might do something to it. The shrimp had so much batter on it. Just plain nasty. Truly it seemed like it came from a package. When we complained to the manager, all he could say was OK, OK. He stated that they are fast and that all of their dishes are made to order. Well if that was the case, then we would not have had to send the food back because it wasn't hot. He didn't offer a solution and didn't even apologize.What makes it even worse is that the manager was our waiter!!!! He was trying to walk away as we were talking to him about the quality of the food. I was so disappointed with this whole experience because others have said how good it was. I will be telling others about this current service and my experience here. I wish I had looked at the most recent reviews. I would have saved myself and my money. Last week we ate here at the great wall. It was ok, for American Cantonese Style chinese food. Our server was very sweet. I didnt get her name as she was rushing off to help so many other tables with no help. My son and I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp, the Beef and Broccoli and the Char Sui (or pork fried) rice. I like the fact that they give a small appetizer of wonton strips while you wait to decide your order. The waitress was very nice but rushed as she had so many tables to serve all by herself. I have been in the food service industry for almost 30 years..if 1 person is responsible to serve70 guests, all at one time, it gets pretty stressful, she however was courteous and got our order correct. The food was honestly just ok. Not the same quality as we are used to, but, not terrible. They do not have a secret menu either, which tells you that they are not interested in serving an asian population. I am white, but ..I know if they catered to thier asian based community..and thier knowlegable other based community...THEY WOULD RAKE IT IN. Their flavors are ok, their service is ok. The bus boy was actually more attentive than the waitress, like i said ..they were either very short staffed or ..they expect their employees to kill themselves serving...just being honest. I actually will go and eat there again, because of the very kind staff and the busboy. But..I miss my mom and pop chinese restaraunt in Colorado with their authentic secret menu offering things not doused in chemicals and red number blah blah blah high fructose stuff from the supermarket..jus sayin. read more

My family was visiting from Washington for Christmas, and since we live in a small apartment, decided to have Chinese for dinner. The place was PACKED, which is understandable since it was one of the only restaurants open on Christmas. The service was great, and we were seated quickly enough. The major issue for me, though, was the quality of the food. I literally have never eaten anything so awful in my life. It was greasy, unappetizing, and did not taste good at all. I will never come eat here again--that's how bad the food tasted. Their chow mein is the only decent thing we got that night, and we ordered five entrees. Never again. read more

Please clean your restaurant?!! I have never seen a restaurant more dirty in the dinning area than this place was. Once you start looking around you realize that there is not an inch of that restaurant that clean! Give your employees an hour or two after work each day to clean. Not all the profit needs to go in your pocket, some of it needs to go back into the cleanliness and maintenance of the restaurant. My wife and mother in law love to eat there bc the food is good, but once I pointed out how dirty the place is they were about to throw up. The kitchen is normally the dirtiest place in a restaurant. We have been going to this restaurant for at least 25 years and the owners sold the restaurant last December. That is why the place has gone down hill. We went back a few times met the new owner but when we went this past weekend and the food was not even edible we complained and did not even get a discount off the bill. It was so bad we never even ate it. We will be taking this place off our list of restaurants and go to our new Chinese restaurant in Palmdale by the dmv. Very accommodating. Have organized group functions here--and you know how that works. 20 RSVPs, 10 show up. 6 RSVPs, 15 show up. The Great Wall has always met our needs on the spur of the moment. I also appreciate that they accommodate all the special dietary restrictions. Ask to have a "water-based" dish instead of chicken fat-based for veg option. I had the sweet and sour chicken. The chicken was dry and not very flavorful. The sauce for the sweet and sour chicken seemed to me as the same sauce for the chips. The worst experience I ever had during dinner with my girlfriend. I ordered my favorite meal which is Mongolian beef with fried rice. My order literally got to our table within two minutes. Not only that the meal was extremely salty. I tried to let it go but just couldn't take another bite. Waitress comes by and asks "Is everything ok with everything?". I replied to her that the food was salty and if you can make it fresh without the salt. She said " no problem". One minute later the Manager comes over and accused me of adding soy sauce. I said " No I don't use soy sauce". He kept pointing his finger at the sauce and said this is soy sauce. I then proceeded to tell him that your cook made this to order for someone else. He said he couldn't make it right and had to charge me. I walked out without paying for my portion of the bill. So embarrassed by that manager and the waitress just played dumb when I called her on it. Never again will I go back. Food is terrible and the service was SUPER SORRY and I just have been treated like a customer. read more

This was not my first time at the Great Wall but it will definitely be my last. In the past I had received mediocre service at best. The food was ok but cheap and it was different than Panda Express. The service has not only become slightly worse every single time but this was the last straw. I walked in and the hostess was on the phone taking an order and chatting up the person on the phone. After about 15 minutes of ignoring us she took one group of people who had been waiting out of three groups of people who were waiting before answering the phone again. I was politely waiting for her to get off the phone and was next to get a table. Once she hung up she completely ignored me and took the person who had just walked in. When I brought it to her attention she didn't even apologize but proceeded to tell me that it was her last table so it was going to be at least another 15 minutes. She acted as though she was doing us a favor by finding a table so quickly. In the past the service was passable never the best but at least not this blatantly horrible. read more

Disgusting food! My husband and I came here on the recommendation of a coworker, and I have to question her sanity after this experience. We ordered takeout, and upon unpacking it and sampling a bite or two, we tossed our $50 order into the garbage. Five main points about the food: 1) The chicken lo mein smelled and tasted like an old dirty wok that had not been properly cleaned or seasoned. 2) The chicken in all of our dishes looked rather like rat meat...it was the lowest quality "meat product" imaginable. 3) The wor wonton soup broth was flavorless, and the soup was so full of cabbage that there was little room left for the actual wonton, which tasted like old, stale dough. 4). The egg rolls were full of mystery meat and the wrapper was so deep fried in old oil, we would have enjoyed the egg rolls from Jack In The Box better. In addition to the food, I must also add that the interior of the restaurant was tired, dingy, and in desperate need of a thorough cleaning and upgrade. We only ordered takeout, but this was my husband's impression when he went in to pick up the food. The only positive thing I can mention about this place is the hostess who took our order over the phone. She was very professional and sweet, even when we called from home to complain about the food and inform her that it was so terrible, we threw it all in the garbage. Lets start off by saying this used to be one of the best restaurants in the AV, let alone the best (Americanized) Chinese restaurant north of the San Fernando Valley. The sad day the original owner retired marked the end of an era and a loss for the valley. We were friends with the former owner before the restaurant opened. For 25 years this was a place where you could get great food and excellent customer service. Over the years my entire family became good friends with his brother and sister who both worked at the restaurant. If you grew up in the AV this was one of those places where many child hood and family memories were made. During the holiday season it was the go to place, you always knew Great Wall would be packed with families and there was always a great hometown vibe. Unfortunately like a mirror image of the AV, the quality and ambiance are gone. The first hint this place was going down hill was the neon open sign on the front door, you knew Great Wall was open by the line out the door not a sign! Next came the change in menu and the addition of boba drinks. Don't get me wrong I love boba but as the saying goes " If it isn't broke don't fix it "; this place isn't Noodle Planet Cafe! You can't blame a person for retiring it is inevitable and I always advocate supporting local business, but the new owners have really big shoes to fill and currently they aren't getting it done. If you want the feel and old atmosphere of Greatwall check out T---o Steak House, they opened around the same time as Greatwall and its still owned by the original owner and his family (great people), support local business! read more

you know i posted this once and it is not here so here it is again please read before you eat there if you have any common sence i went to the restaurant for the first time and there was a few people in front of me i went to the bathroom and say there were 7 tables open so i wondered why people were waiting poor service to start not good then we waited over ten minutes to be seated when there were open tables as i was waiting i seen a B rating on the wall now i am from san diego and am 55 years old so i have eaten at many many places and have only eaten at a B restaurant once in san diego it was a run down taco shop. ok so i thought no problem just a little hickup oh hell no well my sweetheart ordered and waited and waited and then the first course was the wantons and i have never tasted something so bad it tasted like bad old grease and dog crap probably would of tasted better when we recieved our meals there were cold and nasty now i dont understand how this place is top on your reviews you must have some dumb people doing them i would not go back to this place ever dont waste your time do they think they are in china where peole dont know any better in all my days of eating out this by far was the worst ever they suck they deserve a minus five if you have any brains go anywhere but to this low down piece of dog crap read more
